We turned up and they never had any space as they were packed so we ordered a takeaway and even though the time limit for dim sums had passed, the staff member was kind enough to accommodate and give us dim sum

The staff do not have table manners in serving. They got our order wrong twice and did not believe us. Few staff members require training in taking orders and communicating across to others. They had double counted few items we ordered when we only had 1. The manager expected us to pay service charge and was begging us because they work hard. If you provided a good service I don't mind paying service charge. Its the customers discretion and its a choice of the customer. learn to do a job properly first.

Fantastic halal food at its best . Good size portions , quality of food is very good and good service.

One of the best halal Chinese restaurants in London. Highlights were their dim sum menu, cumin lamb, chicken noodles and egg fried rice. Try the mango desert too - unique and brilliant. Can't wait to go again.

Chili dumplings were great. Beef noodles were pretty tasteless and could do with more spice

My food was clearly cooked earlier and thrown into the oil to be reheated! You could taste and tell it was cooked earlier. It was overpriced as well. Please don’t come here. It was also freezing.

Good food at very reasonable prices! We made a reservation for a Saturday and we're really impressed with the service and friendliness of the staff. We ordered the dim sum and enjoyed it all with our favourites being the prawn and chilli oil dumplings. We also got the crispy duck pancakes fir which the portion was 6 pancakes which we thought was a little small but my personal favourite dish. We ended with the peanut noodles which were very good. Overall, we were really happy with the food considering we paid £25 pp. The food is also halal so would highly recommend if you want a halal and authentic Chinese food

Very good food and it’s great that it’s all halal

i barely give reviews and they never asked me to either but the food was so good that i just had to. The only negative i can say was that it was extremely loud and busy but then again that is telling of how good this place is.. the service was great and the chef was SOOO lovely and made us feel special. he was very humble and accommodating. They dont serve any pork which made me feel very comfortable, eating halal. Lastly, the food was 10/10!!!! I got the kungpao chicken, cripsy beef, mongolian beef. Highly recommend!!! 🤤🤤🤤

They have the best playlist. Immediately walked in and was welcomed with studio ghibli classics. Food was okay definitely could be better.

I have lived in Islington for many years and although I love Chinese food I only heard about Hong Kong Restaurant, in Upper Street, recently. It was a really good experience

Had a takeaway from here. I would say the food tastes below average and the meat didn’t taste fresh. The price was quite expensive for the location, £42 for 3 averagely portioned dish.

You’ll find a fully Halal food menu at this Cantonese restaurant in the heart of North London. The price point varies from a fine dining range (premium produce) to more affordable (steamed & noodle dishes). The dishes I really liked: Prawn bean curd roll / Dumplings in chilli oil / Beef ho fun / Salt & Pepper King Prawn / Steamed Scallop with optional sauce and vermicelli / Steamed whole seabass While you might miss out on Pork, please note there there’s an extensive dim sum menu, along with a variety of other main dishes and meats. Love the seafood items especially. But be wary that the cheung fung is only available till 5pm (so unfortunately we missed out on that).

The food is banging. It hits where it needs to hits, it lands where it needs to lands and it slaps where it needs to slaps. 🤣 It's so good that it inspires the poet in me. The dumplings in chili oil is a ✨must try✨. I would come back even if they only sell that. Place is clean. Staff are very kind and super attentive. Service was quick. And everything is just delicious!! Would come back to try the rest of the menu. PS we ordered more but forgot to take photos before we ruin the painting. 🤣

You can share different plates and try a few dishes in one visit, exactly what I did. Portions are a good size, and if you get 5 plates between 3, then 20£ per person, which is not bad at all for the quality of food you receive. The sweet and sour prawns and fried beans were my highlight, crispy massive prawns in a sweet and sour sauce amd stir fried beans with a spicy kick 😋 👌

Fully halal Hongkong cuisine! Its hard to find good halal Hongkong food in London. The food was decent. I particularly enjoyed the chicken dimsum. It was very meaty.

We've always thoroughly enjoyed the food and staff here for a while now, but have realised recently that the food quality has gone absolutely downhill. For example, the crab and chicken siu mai was hard, the beef ho fun lacked its usual flavour. It's unfortunate seeing as how this was our go-to place for dim sum, which was great as it saved us a journey into Chinatown. The prices have increased exponentially and the portions have decreased as well, I understand that businesses are suffering from supply chain issues and the cost of living crisis too, and we would happily agree with the pricing, but only if the food is worthwhile, and from our past 3 dining experiences here, this was not the case at all. I think we gave this place an ample amount of chances before giving up. We won't be coming back as we have found another great dim sum place near the docklands. We wish the restaurant the best and hope it improves in the future.

Extremely rare to find chinese completely halal in such a good location, especially halal Dim Sum. Good flavour and you can tell they use high quality fresh ingredients. Attention to detail in all meals, and not greasy. Free parking after 7pm. Staff really friendly and attentive. Will be my regular chinese spot

So far my favourite Chinese restaurant in London! Not just because their حلال but also taste really good. The roasted duck is a must try. Quick service, clean environment, high chair availability and worth the price.

We had dinner there and I wouldn’t say they are authentic Cantonese food. Food is okay but I personally find them a bit strong in MSG. Saw other people’s comments and it seems that maybe their dim sum is better than dinner dishes??

Quality chinese, every thing we ordered was really good from the roast duck to the dim sum. The only qualm I had was the portion size and the high price of items.

The service, ambience and location of this place is great- in between angel and Highbury and Islington station. We got the prawn and chive dumplings as well as the pea and prawn dumplings- both were fantastic. We got the spring rolls and were pleasantly surprised it had prawn within it. The sesame prawn toast and fried squid were great but the fried squid could be more crunchy. They do not serve Cheung fun after 5pm which was a shame. We got the sweet and sour chicken with rice which was lovely and not too sweet. Our overall bill was £60 which is reasonable.

Went yesterday with a group of 4 others. The food was great! It is fully halal, no pork served. Wait was not long at all, and our server was friendly and very willing to help with our requests. Prices are very reasonable too. Would recommend getting a selection of dumplings as well as a main dish to share as the food was very filling. Would go again!

This is a real hidden gem. The dimsum is super fresh and extremely tasty, all made in house and steamed to order. I'll definitely be coming back again!

Doesn’t Iive up to its name. The roast duck and soy chicken were not authentic Hong Kong flavors. Both were average at best. Did take-out so can’t comment on service or atmosphere.

My family and I came all the way here from South Kensington amidst the striking heat, and after eating here it’s safe to say that it was worth all the radiation absorbed by my black handbag (Super hot btw..) and my sister’s complaints absorbed by my family’s patient ears. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were greeted by an actual superhuman: The woman working the lunch shift on 7 July 2023 at around noon (13:00 I think). She was one of if not the best waiters I’ve ever come across on this entire trip. I AM BEGGING YOU HONG KONG RESTAURANT. GIVE. THIS. WOMAN. A. RAISE. After jotting down my family’s long list of orders, she got to work, and man did she not disappoint. Our food came out in no time and this woman moved swiftly each and every time we were done with our plates. Aside from her impeccable work ethic, huge kudos to the restaurant for maintaining a clean toilet that was comfortable and welcoming. To top it all off, the music played at the restaurant elevated the entire atmosphere and experience; a classical twist on pop and musical hits couldn’t hurt anyone, right? tl;dr Stop going on google reviews and come to this restaurant asap if you’re near the area or in London. I wish you the best meal and I hope you’ll be served by the same waitress who served my family and I.

Chicken chow mein was very oily and lacked flavour. The crab dumplings didn't taste like crab, more of a mash of left over fish and the shredded fried chicken was bland.

OMG the Kung Pao at this place is good. There are not many Halal chinese restaurants in London off the ones tried so far, this one is on top of the list especially for the mains. Kim is extremely professional with her customer services skills. The ambiance is some what an average local restaurant however it is hygienically clean and well decorated. Very busy on the weekends which may result in lack of customer service in terms of brining the order for the whole table at the same time. Otherwise staff is considerate, helpful and friendly.

Visited the restaurant as it is fully halal and a nice Chinese halal roast duck is a rare find. I would certainly recommend the dimsum (prawn and chive and chicken and crab) and the beef and pepper stir fry. However the main attraction was a disappointment. The mixed soy chicken and duck roast was way too salty and lacked the succulent texture. The saltiness was overpowering and I ended up not taking any sauce. Given the price tag, this is below expectation. The serving lady was attentive and she refilled my water as many times as asked. It was a hot summer’s day and I am not sure if they have any working air conditioning. They suggested the guests sit near the entrance (open door, with circulation) so that it’s not stuffy. Again, for restaurant of this price range, you would expect air conditioning or atleast some stand fans for extreme heat. I shall probably not come back again. Given the average quality, not worth changing 2 trains and walking 20 mins.

This is great pace. The staff were friendly and the food was reasonably priced. It also had a great atmosphere and wasn’t too busy. I’d recommend the sweet and sour chicken dish and the egg fried rice as both were delicious. I’d definitely come back here.

Finally popped down to Hong Kong Restaurant after finding out about a full halal menu. They initially sat us down really quickly, and we were very attentive and quick with ordering, as well as the speed of the food coming out. We were really grateful about having pictures in their menu, which made it so easy to order, with everything looking so delicious. However only around 50% of what we ordered looked anything like the pictures. Overall the dimsum was really tasty and I would easily order more and the service was great, however the main dishes left a lot to be desired, given the expectations and the price paid.

Really appreciate that it's halal and some of the dishes were really good. I enjoyed the dim sums and roast duck. The price was a bit high, but the portions were generous. I would go back for the dim sums. Service was good, I went for an early dinner so there were plenty of seats available.

Food was amazing. But we waited ages for service. Even 10 minutes to get the check. Got ignored a few times trying to flag a waitress. One of those places with authentic food but subpar service

Sister is Muslim so we travelled from South London for halal dim sum and wasn't disappointed. Authentic, delicious food, would definitely recommend and will be back for more.

First time here. Dim sum range was ok. Salt and pepper chicken was nice. Sweet and sour chicken was nice but sauce was too sweet had to wipe off the excess sweet sour sauce. Dumplings in chilli oil soup was very vinegary and so overpowering, could not eat the chilli oil soup just strained and ate the dumplings. Prawn wonton soup and rice was good. What attracted me to come here was hearing they have an ex-Novikov chef in the kitchen so I was expecting some good quality food - it was far from anything quality. Decor is very plain and simple. I won’t be returning sorry.

Bit of a find, as a non-pork eater this is the first time I've visited a halal dim sum restaurant. Great to be able to sample some classics which would usually only be found with swine!

The food overall was really good but waiting time was quite long.

Cold food and waited 30 minutes more then was said for a pick up take away, no dipping sauce for the dim sum and crispy duck was so over cooked it was dry.

We went for iftar, the restaurant decor is usual not bad not great. The service could be better because we had to remind them about our food. One of The starters came but then nothing until I had to remind them. The table next to us ordered roast duck after us and for it before us. The food is lovely. The kung po chicken was a little too tangy but good. Overall the price is in the high side for the food. I would still go there so it’s not bad.

Fantastic restaurant. Authentic food in Islington. So nice to have phenomenal quality Hong Kong food on our doorsteps! We tried most dishes on the menu and we absolutely loved them all.

Great Chinese food. Dim sum was really tasty, the mains such as black bean sauce and rice, sweet and sour chicken or Kung Pow chicken were all some of the nicest Chinese dishes I've had. Most food is halal, place is small but feels spacious with a nice atmosphere. Price is reasonable. I couldn't give it 5 star as food came in a horrible order. We ordered rice with our mains but we ended up having dishes without rice on occasions or with rice and cold Black Bean Sauce. When we ordered we were recommended to order a little less rice and perhaps order more if we finished it. It's not ideal and when we tried ordering some additional rice later we were told it would take 30 mins, so the rest of our food would be cold by then. So this meant our meal was far from perfect. I just don't think this system of putting all orders in the restaurant in one long queue will always work. Customers shouldn't get all the food in dribs and drabs, the main course should come together and if anything additional is ordered such as rice then perhaps this should be expedited so it doesn't ruin their meal. I'm sure the other customers would be happy to wait a bit longer if it meant they would get all their food together and could also order additional and get this expedited if they would like to. We did speak to the manager who apologized and offered some free desserts which did help and did satisfy our overall experience here. I would very much return.

We went here to celebrate my father's birthday. The food was excellent! The service was very good. They tried to take my food intolerances into account.

Decent place. I'd come again just for the halal roast duck because that's so hard to find in London and it was actually REALLY GOOD. It was flavoursome and crispy too. The soy chicken was incredibly soft. The beef ho fun noodles was also good ( I'd get it again). The seafood rice in lotus leaf was a disappointment - It tasted so bland and it was surprisingly more expensive than the other main dishes so save your cash. Prawn cheung fun and crystal dumplings were good too. Standard dim sum. Overall good place- would come again for the duck but the prices are off-putting for most of the dishes and flavours.

Delicious and flavorful food 👌

2 days before Mother’s Day and I just get the phone call to say my table for 12 is cancelled because they’ve overbooked. I was offered a lunch time slot of 3:30pm, which is far too late for us (I have children and am coming from an hour and half car journey away). Before making my reservation online a week and half ago, I called them to make sure they could accommodate our party for our chosen time slot, which I was reassured this was possible. Hugely disappointed. I hope I can find a last minute restaurant to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Quick and polite. The menu card was provided with big images to see what you are ordering, I found it very helpful although I appreciate more only written one. The food was good. I definitely recommend to visit this Chinese restaurant if you like authentic dumplings, duck dishes and more.

Incredible halal Chinese food. Everything was delicious but the dumplings in chilli oil were my favourite. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us despite not having a reservation. Such warm, friendly and helpful staff.

Having read recent reviews, I have no issues with the service here, it’s good and no complaints, the food was good, I would say standard, defo food over priced!

Really good food but the service was a bit slow at the start

I have lunch here a few time. Price has gone up ridiculous recently, even charge £1 for hot water itself, definitely over price restaurant. They used to take Amex, but just saying card machine is broken now.

Excellent food - Prawn toast was amazing!

Don’t be misled by their website stating the chef is an ex chef from Novikov. Food and service were appalling. I travelled 12 miles to the restaurant as I thought if it’s an ex Novikov chef then it should be decent food. This was like a fast food restaurant with queues of people waiting to be seated around the tables were guests were already seated and eating. Deliveroo drivers were in and out of the restaurant collecting take always and causing further congestion. We ordered crispy duck which seemed stale and was cold. The pancakes were stuck together and we couldn’t peel them. When we showed the waitress…. Her reply was we are busy! We then waited an hour for mains which never arrived. We were given saucers instead of dinner plates! The manager actually told us that that’s what they serve their dinner on whilst the waitress said they had ran out of dinner plates. We were then told to move tables as they wanted to accommodate a group booking whom had been waiting for a long time. We refused to move tables half way through our meal. The main course never arrived. We were not charged for the starters and soft drinks as they were eager for us to leave do they can accommodate another booking. We had booked well in advance and ended up wasting a whole evening on what was supposed to be a family evening out!

Awful experience unfortunately. Badly understaffed. Ordered dumplings in chilli oil and it was awful. The flavour of the accompanying soup tasted very vinergary and just left a weird taste in the mouth. Food arrived late, mains came one bit at at time, so whilst our veg and meat dish came, rice and noodles were nowhere to be seen so everything got cold. Ordered a beef dish with such a strange bouncy texture. We cudnt tell what meat it even was. Sorry, can't recommend at all and won't be returning. Try hakkasan for quality Chinese food.

I need to come back with my family the first time I came was when I was heavily pregnant and I gave birth a week later. Best last family meal we had together! Best halal Chinese restaurant I have been to. With so many meat options and being halal. I have been to some 5* restaurants in hotels in central london and they don’t taste as authentic or have meat options like this place. A big menu with a good variety of authentic dishes. I love that they do chicken feet as nowhere I have been to that claim they have a halal menu never serve chicken feet! Hot and cold! Everything was perfect. But I do wish you guys could add the Chinese egg tarts please. My children are obsessed and was looking forward to order when we told them we are going for some dim sum but there wasn’t on the menu. Big child hood favourite for myself also. :)

This restaurant has HUGE potential. Ex novikov chef but it definitely doesn’t feel like you’re going for that experience, it feels like a local Chinese. Walls are covered in food, toilets smell. The restaurant needs a refurb and needs a better vibe. I’m not asking for them to replicate Novikov as that’s something on another level, however as the chef is ex novikov, parts of that can definitely be taken. Food was good but not amazing. Lamb chops, VERY GOOD. Pricey but so worth it, really soft and the sauce was splendid. Sweet and sour kitchen is so basic, filled with vinegar and ketchup. Noodles were splendid but the rice was very bland. Dim sum was perfect and next time I visit, I will order more items off that menu. Staff were nice too but this restaurant can move levels if the owner gives it more thought. It’s a shame as I drove 4 hours to try the food and even though I informed the staff of this, they never seemed bothered. I probably won’t return any time soon, but I hope for the owners sake he puts some effort in to the decor and the vibe as the food is very good but is lacking in a lot of elements.

My lord, I must say…. The food here is absolutely delicious! There was no faults in the food I tried and left with a full stomach with the generous portions. I tried the Cheapest beef on the menu and it came out beautiful so I will 100% try out the better cuts on my next visit. Egg fried rice wasn’t bland at all. The Sweet and sour Chicken? Nom nom. And the DUCK OMG PLEASE COME AND TRY THE DUCK!

We visited this restaurant having come across it on social media. We had high hopes as it was very hyped. We visited during the week & we were incredibly disappointed. The staff are absolutely terrible & provide no customer service what so ever. My husband had to call out across the restaurant so many times as we were seated at the back & were avoided by staff. TERRIBLE. The soup dumplings & dim sum were not that of great quality. The restaurants claim to fame is that the chef is Ex NOVIKOV. May I say, it is clear that he is EX NOVIKOV as I suspect he was fired. The food is of such poor quality & expensive for no good reason. The restaurant is SCRUFFY with food splattered up the walls. No decent chop sticks/ cutlery. The plates resembled my local Chinese restaurant for a FRACTION OF THE PRICE. the lamb chops alone cost £30 for a portion & we’re UNDER cooked & tough. We had to send them back. The whole experience was shocking, bland & a waste of money. I do not recommend. The restaurant does not reflect the prices, no real pride or cleanliness. BIG improvements need to be made. At the end of our experience having complained many times that we were being ignored by waiters they had the audacity to add a £13 service charge. Poor. No pride.

Decent dimsum, really accommodating staff. This is a halal restaurant so all traditional pork dishes have been replaced with chicken or beef.

Very basic food, not even close to the standard of food provided by Novikov. The place is cramped, so much so that food was being passed over to us by the waiters over other customers shoulders. The only item that was ok was their buns, the noodles were very dry and seemed that they were not fresh, the sweet and sour chicken was very sweet. The taste was similar to a typical Chinese take away. For the price it was an absolutely disappointing experience. Will not come here again!

Great Chinese on upper st. Worth to visit for the Dan Dan noodles alone.

Really delicious and interesting food and good value too, especially for Upper Street. Service is perhaps slightly slow and not very attentive, but it was also quite busy.

My partner and I are huge fans of this place - we eat here very often. However there is 1 essential Cantonese dish missing from the menu - char siu bao! We both love bbq pork buns and wish they would add it to the menu. Otherwise, a perfect Cantonese experience

Disappointing. I was super excited as everything on the menu is halal (even tho most items doesnt have the halal symbol- apparently everything is halal) Food was hit or miss which i guess can be normal. The issue I had was when I asked the server if she can remove the service charge - staff didn't offer water refills (i ended up asking one time), they didnt check if we were satisfied, if we wanted anything else) so why would I pay £6/7 for service charge? For giving us a refill of water ONCE. I asked the server nicely if it can be removed then she started her excuses of how she can not because "the manager wasnt there" or "if the service wasnt bad we do not remove it" which is cheeky and ridiculous, for one refill of water😂 and even with the plates we stacked them so its easier clean up for them so what service?! And we ordered around £60 worth of food items, its not like we got one item each. We had to battle to have that removed. I will not be going there again, really disappointing. Cons: Abalone chicken soup - rubbery & the sichuan king prawn = nothing like the picture, it wasn't dry type (be aware that meals dont come as pictured on the menu) Pros: Crab XLB & Mango Sago & Chicken feet XO was nice to get if you do go.

I went in with my friend for a table of 2 and the woman with the short hair told us that there was no tables as they were fully booked but when I went on online there was over 10 time slots available when I showed this woman the times she proceeded to argue with me and laugh in my face sarcastically and shut the door midway through my conversation I have never felt this type of way before and she made me so angry I left and decided to go elsewhere I will never be returning and one tip for management you need to train your staff on how to speak to people because at the end of the day you are losing customers and money

Was looking forward in going here advised I made a booking for 2 which was made on the same day, had the confirmation email to prove this yet the lady at the door said it was fully booked and I had to come back later?? I advised I had a booking I can wait, then she automatically became rude and told me ‘I have no where to seat you, come back later’ the rudest manner put me off and will not go back. Had high hopes to visit, try the food and have good service & experience, instead she decided to ruin my day with awful attitude. Disgusting. Fix up on service if you’re going to provide a dining service in London - making the ex Novikov chef name to disgrace. Novikov wouldn’t be doing that.

Come here as a regular with my family and absolutely love the food usually, but my last visit was a real disappointment. Service was awful and staff were especially rude, I was shocked. Ordered half a duck, which came with fewer pancakes than usual 5-6 for a group of 6 (which honestly I wouldn’t have minded if they brought us more pancakes that we would have been happy to pay for). When we ordered more pancakes, they didn’t come for another 30 minutes so we cancelled this request The duck had obviously gotten cold and later found out the staff had never placed the order for more pancakes to begin with! To make matters worse our mains were not brought out for over 40 minutes following our starters (that took less than 15 minutes to arrive). This led us to inevitably cancelling the remainder of our order, which the waiters were more than happy to agree to. This prompted us to believe this was most likely done out of spite due to our earlier complaint regarding the pancake situation. Never coming back again, what a let down, truly was a huge fan of the food but some of the staff were appalling and ruined our evening. We had no problem with the language barrier with staff prior but the attitude of the staff was honestly disgusting (the ponytailed lady wearing glasses strutting around with her hands on her hips as she slowly walks around and the short bob haired lady who both lied about putting the food through that we had ordered on two occasions this night, which we found out to be the case from other staff). The fact that we knew they were doing certain things out of spite was truly upsetting.

Halal food Free parking after 7pm outside Duck was nice and rich in flavour but very oily. But very good portion. Calamari was decent. But no sauce given. When asked was given mayonnaise and the standard sweet chilly sauce. Beef in black bean sauce best i had Egg fried rice big portion tasted decent had a richer flavour but again tasted oily If i do go again maybe for dumplings or play it safe with the sweet sour chickens etc the taste will be really good. You can tell the food had authentic and richness about it. Some may find it too rich or oily. Maybe a little overpriced. I would score it a low 4.
