Last time we used the Hong Kong house the food was really good, but not good this time. I had a duck with mushrooms and when I opened up to eat struggled to find any duck, the few bits I found were dry and tasteless. The dish was really mushrooms carrots and onions. So we won’t be returning

1st time back to this place in a long time. Not good at all, dishes were watery, bland even tasteless. Won't be going back anytime soon.

Most Chinese restaurants have declined in quality, but this is still one of the best ones, plenty of Chicken in the balls

the worst Chinese, watery sauce with no flavour and missing food, cost £30 and can’t get over what a waste of money it was.

I have been eating food from this restaurant for many many years and in my opinion it was the best Chinese takeaway in town. After it closed for refurbishment i used other takeaways only to be disappointed by the food. I drive past the Hong Kong House every day and always checked to see if it had reopened. However, i received a leaflet through the post informing me it had reopened and food was available for delivery...which it wasn't before. Later that evening i called to order my usual...Beef Curry with fried rice, Singapore Chow Mein and Crispy Shredded Beef. I was told the order would take around 30 - 40 minutes to be delivered...i live 5 minutes away from restaurant...but it didn't arrive for almost 1 hour and 20 minutes. When i opened it i was immediately dismayed by what was in front of me...the fried rice was not fried rice, the beef curry was absolutely terrible and had hardly any curry sauce in it, and the crispy shredded beef was truly shocking. In the past the crispy coating was of a similar colour to the batter on fish from the chippy, and came in a plastic container with a nice chilli sauce in with it. What i found when opening the foil container...that looked like someone had played football with...was absolutely bone dry and looked like twigs you would find on a tree...they snapped as soon as i picked them up and tasted terrible...totally dried out and absolutely nothing like i was used to before it closed for a refurb. To say i was disappointed, having waited so long for it to reopen, is an understatement. If anyone knows where the woman, who ran it before it closed, is working now, please can you let me know as i would like the recipes for some of the food she made because it was a thousand times better than the garbage that was served to me upon reopening.

I was excited to try this long established Chinese Takeaway after a lengthy refurbishment. Portion size for the money was good especially with 20% off, got 10 vegetable spring rolls and prawn crackers free with the order, chicken and mushroom soup, house special fried rice and house special chow mein. The best part of the food was the 2 large spring rolls, the free mini were ok but like you can buy frozen most places, the mushroom and chicken in the soup was plentiful the broth reasonable but the chicken seemed dark coloured compared to when I have had previously and pretty tough. So most of it has not been eaten and even the prawn crackers had a good number discoloured darker than usual. Like all the food had some after taste that I can only put down to an oil used. This is where the meal fell apart! Both the House specials came in 2 containers, a standard deep rectangular plastic tray with the meat, vegetable and sauce and a second standard small foil tray and cardboard lid thats has been used many years, 1 with a poor egg fried rice and another with a mix of fine noodles (your given a choice between fine or medium), onions and beansprouts like you'd expect if ordering separate fried soft noodles. But this was ruined by the taste from what must be their oil used as you could also taste in the rice which was lighter coloured than usual with very little egg and nothing else. For sure the worst part was the trays of meat, vegetables in sauce! For a start they were pretty much identical for the house special rice and chow mien with the same sauce that was almost like a slime that coated everything which I did not like at all. Plenty of nice chunky vegetables and big chunks of meat and large king prawns which were good quality king prawns, the chicken was at least not tough like in the soup but was ruined by the slimy sauce, the beet was large pieces but not exactly like I have ever had before from any Chinese meal anywhere in the world I have had. Again not helped by the sauce but also was not so tasty and still a fair amount of chewing needed despite it also having some of the steamed meat texture yet generally get. But by far the worst of all is what I am assuming must be their version of roast pork which is always a char sui but this meat seemed very light in colour, under cooked, none of the usual outer red coating from its marinade and some of the most shocking quality meat I have ever been served. Lots of connecting tissues, fats, and tougher tendon like rubbery nasty that ony put 1 piece in my mouth and spat out. Maybe got as far as a second try of the beef only to spit out. So needless to say most of the food is now left in the containers as we only dished a little out and over half of that went into the bin or the meat saved and will take some photos/Video in good day light in the morning as never seen anything like it.

Used to be our fave takeaway but tonight’s meal was poor, tough dodgy meat, strange tasting prawn crackers, old rice. Will not be returning any time soon especially as it only has 1 star hygiene rating!

Used this takeaway for over 20 years. Have noticed quality of food decreasing recently. Tonight had to return one meal for refund as dry and inedible. Spoiled whole birthday evening. Won't be returning here until standards have improved.

Very good food and very good service. The chicken curry was a little watery, but that is the only complaint I have. The chips are to die for! Would visit again!

First time ordering and won’t be back. Sloppy portions. I ordered rice and ended up with half a portion in the plastic tray. Prawns which weren’t exactly cheap arrived cold. I feel that if you order through just eat… it isn’t as carefully prepared as it would be ordering by phone. It’s a no from me.

Feeling very much in want of some Chinese and finding the Golden Bridge open on a Monday, we gave them a try. Would rate them as cheap and cheerful, but could be better. We ordered quite a few things totalling around £45: chicken and sweetcorn soup, hot and sour soup, sweet and sour chicken, bbq ribs, special fried rice, salt and chilli chicken, char sui pork with vegetables, large meat spring rolls, and we got prawn crackers and 2 fortune cookies for free. Let's start by saying the soup was the best part of the meal and set me up for a bit of a disappointment. Mine was the hot and sour soup which was absolutely beautiful, would definitely get again and have with prawn toast by itself! The rice was delicious along with the salt and chilli chicken. The sweet and sour chicken was made separately from the sauce and was slightly dry. The spring rolls were as my partner described as ' a bean sprout sandwich'. It had no flavour or meat to be seen or tasted. Had we no sauce it would have been left. The ribs were a bit tough and the char sui pork with vegetables was ok. Had everything been flavoured and cooked accordingly then it would have been rated higher. Staff were very pleasant and friendly. It's collection and cash only which was a little inconvenient. Food was slightly late, but everything was hot! Would go back for somethings, but not a whole meal. Parking is difficult so be prepared to walk a bit.
