40 years of making superior oriental food and still owned and ran by the founder. Excellent service and always top quality food.

The Standard’s at this Chinese takeaway have dramatically dropped in the last few weeks. It used to be really good however our meal tonight was late, cold the chips were from Macdonald’s and it was expensive. The quality of the meal was way below the standard I would expect of this place. We will not be back!

Furthest away from a Chinese Takeaway I’ve ever encounted. “Spicy” King Po Chicken tasted overly sweet, and not spicy in the slightest. Mixed curry average at BEST. Noodles awfully dry. Will not be back.

We ordered over the phone and had food delivered right to our caravan on the Haven site in Berwick. We had to order the Babi bangang just to find out what it was - easily my favourite dish. All the food was good and delivered hot, right on time. Even our 4 and 5 year old kids enjoyed the food.

New to the area and thought my partner and I would give this place a go. Think the food is quite bland and didn't have much taste. I felt as if though the chicken had ran through my dinner and forget to stop. Definitely not worth the money but on the plus side my dog had a lovely meal at the end of it . Friendly service and clean and warm inside :).

First of all compare the price of this establishment with restaurants further south. Hong Kong CHS charges at least a pound more per individual meal than restaurants on the border of London. The set meals also contain 1 individual meal less. Anyone who thinks this is a good Chinese has simply lived in the area too long. The sweet and sour pork was made with what seemed like minced meat and not pork. Everything was disgustlingly greasy. The vegetables in the curry were hardly cut up - just enormous chunks soaked in grease. A vile experience.

We have had two takeaways from here both of which have been very good. The sweet and sour king prawn was especially nice with generous amount of king prawn. Chow mein is tasty and portion generous. Egg fu yung nicely cooked. Edit: Now up to 4 takeaways and very satisfied with all. The place is so busy it is clearly like by quite a lot of people. Edit: Several more takeaways now and always enjoyed whatever we have ordered. We have explored the menu choices. This has become a regular for us and will continue to be.

I am really fussy when it comes to chinese food. I was a little wary about getting anything but I am so glad I did. I can honestly say it’s the best chinese food I have had in a long time. I will definitely be back the next time I am down at the caravan.

Ordered chicken fried rice, salt and chilli chips and a tub of curry sauce, the chicken was only wee scraps that looked as if it was pulled of a leg and the salt and chilli chips were not very spicy and greasy , would not recommend

We've been going to this Chinese for a number of years now. However as time has gone on we have reduced how much we go for other Chinese takeaways in the town. The food is okay, it used to be fantastic!! The portion sizes are good but the amount of times we've had wrong orders and very greasy food has happened enough times for us to look elsewhere. The chow meins and noodle dishes are always very good however everything else of the menu has been very average or poor. Sadly there are better places to go and we only go there around once a year at the most now.

If memory serves correctly, this was Berwicks first proper Chinese Takeaway, and still remains the best in town. Not the cheapest, but consistent.

Food awful tonight. Informed the owner but didn't seem bothered. We ordered aromatic duck, it arrived salty and basically was all fat and skin. What a waste of money. The main meals weren't much better. That's the end of that!!

Slow service and the deliveries take so long the food's usually tepid on arrival. Decent enough food though if you have the time and a microwave.

Probably the worst takeaway I've had. The wontons were what I can only describe as burnt with basically no filling and tasteless. Lemon chicken had a pink sauce (was it the wrong dish we were given?!) and tasted chemically, chips were also burnt. We'd also ordered crispy fried chicken in chilli and sour sauce which wasn't even spicy and tasted more like sweet and sour. I can only conclude we were either given two incorrect dishes or their dishes were not to expectations. Regardless, I won't go there again (we were first time customers) as it was poor quality so I wouldn't waste my money again.

Staff are rude and clueless. Didn't even understand sweet and sour, charged us for a meal that didn't arrive and then hung up on us when we called to complain. Seriously people, just chose another place, these people are not worth it. Probably the worst Chinese I have ever come across.

We were so excited to try this place as they could cater for My Son’s egg allergy. Additionally, my Daughter is Vegan, and we are meat eaters so it is difficult to find great tasting food that we can all love and can trust. The staff could not be more helpful, really knowledgeable and vigilant with allergies, intolerances and their vegan menu, meaning we could order with confidence and just relax and enjoy a great tasting family meal together. My Son was over the moon that he could have an egg free naan bread as he can’t usually eat them. He was confident that, unlike other places, we didn’t have to worry about egg being present or cross contamination. Anyone with severe allergies knows the importance of finding somewhere you can trust. My Daughter enjoyed a creamy masala sauce which was always one of her favourites so she was over the moon to be able to have it again. We ordered a range of dishes, all of which were vegan apart from mine which contained meat. As a meat eating non vegan, I tried a bit of everything and it all tasted amazing! I would go as far as to say, the best tasting Rogan Josh I have ever tasted- absolutely incredible! We will definitely be returning again very soon. Unfortunately, we were too excited and got stuck in before thinking to take photographs for a review. Many thanks to everyone at Spice of Life for going above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our meal with confidence.

Absolutely appalling! But I partly blame our stupidity for not seeing the warning signs and continuing to order at this ‘restaurant’, when everything pointed towards it being a poor experience. Even the lady at the (gorgeous) B&B we were staying at was sending us warning signals. When asked if we had booked somewhere to eat, she looked surprised when we said the Queens Head’ and politely said, ‘well the good thing about the Queens Head is that if there is nothing you like on the menu, they will always rustle you up some sausage and chips’. (Warning sign 1!) We had booked a table here during our short stay in Berwick, based on the website promise of ‘quality’ food and a fine dining experience. When we arrived the waitress did not seem interested, was surprised we had a booking and never even asked our name! She then pointed to the (only) table for 2 in the room, with a chair almost sat on top of a huge fire hydrant and said ‘will that do?’ (warning sign 2!) We should have taken the opportunity at this point to run, but stupidly stayed. The table we sat at had a small laminated piece of paper with photos of ‘sharing nibble plates’ for £2.50 slotted between the salt and pepper pot and immediately screamed ‘cheap food’ and the rest of the menu too should have been a red flag as the daytime snacks at the front, was mostly dirty fries and nachos. ( warning sign 3!) The waitress knowledge of the menu was non-existent and unhelpful when asking questions. When checking what style of the chicken curry was, ( eg mild, hot, jalfrezi, korma?) we were told ‘it’s just chicken!’ And when asking was there any side dishes served with the chicken breast, we were told ‘vegetables’. ‘what vegetables?’ we asked and were abruptly told with a confused shrug, ‘ they are just vegetables!’ (Warning sign 4!) The carrot and coriander soup was probably the best dish we ordered, but the Salmon and Dill Fish cake starter that arrived was an obviously cheap frozen fish cake, deep fried within an inch of its life and had a grey[?] fish less middle! The Vegetable Curry was bland and served so hot it was almost boiling on the plate and a side stack of dried up white rice. The Chicken Breast was cooked ok, but was served on potato stacks that were slightly raw. Most of the food served screamed ‘reheated’. To twist the knife of injustice, this place charges astronomical prices. £10.95 for the cheap fish cake starter! £23.95 for the chicken and £17.95 for the curry were outrageous for such awful quality food. We did not stay for dessert. Our bill came to nearly £70 for 2 courses and 2 drinks and that was the biggest insult. Not one waitress checked if any of our food courses were ok (and on me leaving half of the main course untouched), abruptly said, ‘have you finished’ ? and took our plates. Don’t believe the website boasting a top quality experience and give this place a wide berth.
