Stopped off for a breather during a drive from Glasgow to Oban. Great view. But don't go inside! The place is pretty filthy: contact of any kind with the floors was not a good idea. Didn't smell great either. Staff definitely not in line with the usual friendliness of the Scots. Drank my coffee with much trepidation, and left. Stayed away from the food.

There is a nice view of Loch Lomond which is why we stopped at this cafe, we should have kept going. One member of staff on duty in the cafe and lots of used crockery still on the tables and piled high in the kitchen. The girl seemed totally bored and disinterested in her work and when my son returned his dirty cup and asked for a clean one, that seemed to be a problem. The cake we had was fine but we did wonder about the hygiene and cleanliness of the place.

Stopped here on the way back from our holiday for a quick brekky and in hindsight really wished we'd kept driving past. This was one of those experiences that when you get back in your car afterwards to continue your journey you all burst out laughing at the total disaster it was!We ordered 3 breakfasts and an egg roll (veggy daughter) c/w tea and coffee and every part of it was terrible - coffee cold, tea had a rather odd aroma, bacon was a weird grey colour (I swear it could glow in the dark), sausage was like a price of corrugated cardboard, black pudding was as hard as a hockey puck on the outside and raw on the inside, potato 'scones' were so greasy they could effectively be classed as 99% liquid. Then there were the eggs that were just awful and had more in common with a NASA science experiment to discover a new type of rubber compound to make space suits out of - stretchy and strong.... definitely not edible.Avoid this place... You have been warned.

Have visited this cafe every year when passing through the Highlands for over 25 years. Always had a warm welcome, good food, and lovely service. However, since it changed ownership 2 years ago it has gone right down the hill and is now awful. Visited 23rd July 2016. Cafe was busy inside and outside, but the service was slow, unhelpful and very surly, especially from the miserable and hatchet faced lady behind the counter. The chairs and tables have been rearranged in such a way that it is impossible to sit comfortably without disturbing your neighbours. Why this is I don't know, as there is ample space in there and you could comfortably seat twice the number with a sensible arrangement of the seating. The food was OK but not as special as previously. The toilets were disgusting and filthy like an environmental disaster area, dirty waste of all sorts piled on the floors, including the disabled toilet YUCK!. It cannot be helped if customers behave like pigs, but the staff could check and clean the facilities through the day. What had happened there did not happen in 5 minutes or perhaps, even 5 hours. It is notable that there is no hygiene rating displayed on the premises. I did complain but hatchet face just stared at me silently and offered no apology or explanation whatsoever. It says a warm welcome outside but it was awful customer service. They also have a notice in the window saying as recommended on Trip Advisor. Well, NOT BY ME and not by a lot of other people recently either looking at the reviews. IF YOU HAVE VISITED OVER THE YEARS AND LOVED IT, AS I HAVE, AVOID IT NOW AND SAVE YOURSELF SEVERE DISAPPOINTMENT. If the owner reads this, perhaps they would like to take some action before their investment goes right down the tubes. What a crying shame, beautiful location, beautiful cafe, almost totally wrecked in a couple of years.

The ambiance of a truckers cafe! Dirty, greasy floors, and the place smells like old chip fat. They have a good coffee machine but still managed to serve the most disgusting coffee I have ever tasted. Served in a paper cup instead of the cups they had on the coffee machine. Looks like someone doesn't like doing dishes. Carrot Cake was good but the guy just put it on a serviette and dumped it on the counter, had to ask for a plate ans go in search of a fork! These people have absolutely no concept of hospitality! What a waste of such a nice location. Do yourself a favour and give it a miss!

We found a free table in the lovely garden and ordered lunch here on a very busy Sunday. The staff were run off their feet but pleasant and helpful, and we didn't mind lingering with several drinks over a rather long wait for our food. Alas, my steak, ordered medium rare, arrived overcooked to the point of shoe leather. Normally I would just have sent it back and asked for an edible replacement, however, there were queues at the bar and the order point, and no-one came to ask if everything was all right with our meal. It was easier to just grin and bear it rather than delay our lunch by another hour or so. My husband's fish was only average, and I'd say think twice before eating here unless you can see an efficient staff/customer ratio.

I hate leaving a negative review but it can't be helped. The Home on the Loch looks very cosy and welcoming from the outside and we have passed it a few times and thought we must pay a visit. Looks can be deceiving, we walked in and it looked like a road side diner, which took us a back as were expecting a cosy Wee tea room. There was a severe lack of tables and seating areas. We ordered two coffees and two bacon rolls. The coffee came in plastic takeaway cups, the rolls ended up being two slices of toasted brown bread, which was tasty but not what was advertised. If I had been asked I would have accepted there were no rolls and the bread but it would have nice to have been asked. The coffee was cold, no knife to cut very large sandwich, and no dish with sauce, sugar etc on table. The door is wide open to toilet area and the toilets themselves were filthy. It could be such a lovely Wee place with plenty of potential. I hate leaving a bad review as its someone's business and lively hood but unless something is done it won't be for much longer.

We visited this cafe on Wednesday 15 June, it looked lovely from the outside, though inside was modern and lacked atmosphere. We ordered our coffee and sandwiches, as we waited the couple on the table next to us said "I can't drink this coffee, is far too strong". This rang alarm bells as we too hate strong coffee. The chap serving had zero customer care qualities, spoke limited English and when we got our order the sandwich was limp and not appetising at all, the coffee was vile, undrinkable!!! I complained, no apology or offer of refund. So please if you intend to visit this wee cafe on the beautiful banks of Loch Lomond then save you money and drive past. The worst cafe in Scotland.

Beautiful location which is why we stopped. Had high hopes, the menu had a good choice but when we saw the tables with dirty dishes and half eaten food that should have set alarm bells ringing. Ordered our drinks and food (no baked potatoes) and an hour later we enquired where was said food only to be told they'd lost the order! We had only ordered two sandwiches, a goats cheese and beetroot salad (more about that later) and a macaroni, bearing in mind we had already paid £40 for this. There were only four other tables occupied at the time so they were hardly rushed off their feet. When food finally arrived after another prompting the beetroot salad had no beetroot only slimey red peppers/macaroni was of a strange consistency and flavour and definitely wasn't made with cheddar as advertised/sandwiches came on stale tasting unbuttered bread with soft nachos and a few pieces of limp lettuce (not fresh seasonal salad as advertised). Fed up with this we asked for our money back and overheard a staff member saying embarrassingly to a tourist "if you want food the kitchen is closed"!! This was at 2.15pm on a beautiful Scottish afternoon. We are Scottish and felt ashamed that this what we are offering foreign tourists at such a beautiful location. To make it even worse the toilets should be condemned and after reading reviews I see that people complained about this a year ago. We would never recommend anyone stop here just keep driving.

Visited today. Beautiful location on Loch Lomond. Needed a comfort break and cafe looked clean. Coffee and meal were good and inexpensive. However, I needed a disabled toilet and the lock on the door did not work. Used ordinary ladies toilet but the bowl was badly strained brown.. I suspect this is because of location, water supply and plumbing arrangements. This is miles from any other property. It is unusual for tourist spots not to rip off visitors, but apart from the toilets, this was very good value. Young man serving was helpful and polite.

Went here for a lunch today as it was in a nice setting. One of us had soup and two had baked potatoes. I ordered one with beans and cheese. When it arrived it was stone cold and my husband also returned his as it was luke warm. The soup apparently tasted good but was quite watery. We heard the ping of the microwave and the potatoes came back. My husbands with tuna was fine but they had forgotten to put more than a teaspoon of filling on mine. Plainly punishment for having complained it was cold! I had lost the will to bother by now and just left it, but at £18 for those and just one coffee really they should be ashamed to not be able to get baked potatoes right. I felt like warning new people arriving not to have the potatoes! The cakes on the counter by contrast looked fabulous but we were off for afternoon tea later so could not have cake for lunch.

Like others have commented we asked for tapwater with our meal and were told due to health and safety regs they cannot serve it due to peat and/or other contamination of the water supply......That is worrysome, because Scottish environmental health officers guidelines are very clear that non potable water should not be used to wash plates and cutlery etc, due to transmission of whatever is in the water. Basically if you can't drink it you cant do the washing up in it ! So what are they doing to avoid contamination ?? Using bottled water to wash up in ???Maybe it's time to come clean and sort the water situation out as you are a business and it is not possible to run a food servery with contaminated water supplies. As for the food the sandwiches were basic as was the décor, the coffee was nice.

Stopped here for brunch..... £6 for a sandwich I expected something special. We got a non buttered sandwich (2 slices of bread) with a small salad dressing and some borderline soggy crisps. Basically a hungry teenager would produce this sort of snack out of the fridge and cupboard. My wifes tomato and black pudding soup was nice but had a piece of plastic in it. The server tried to convince us it was an onion skin.....it was not !!!!The back door was left open so it was cold, the radio was blaring away and the table roses were nearly dead........My advice is try elsewhere, the inflated prices charged here do not reflect the food nor ambiance value.

It wasn't too busy, the menu had bacon rolls which was good because we didn't fancy most of the sandwiches but when we tried to order, the waitress told me they finished at 11:30 as it was a breakfast item. The menu doesn't mention this anywhere. I find it hard to understand why a place out of the way can't fry some bacon and put it on a roll to make a sale. Even if they had no rolls left they could have offered it on bread. We ended up having the chicken sandwich between us. It was quite nice but was expensive for what it was. wish we had driven past. Ideally located, great to sit outside overlooking the Loch. However thats where the positives end. We only wanted sandwiches and a cold drink. Many arriving after us received hot drinks before our simple cans of cold drink arrived. And then after a further wait the sandwiches came - we apparently had an extra bonus - side of chips as they had run out of crisps. In most circumstances that would have been very nice. However, these were were overcooked and very oily, so obviously got left by the side of the plate. The sandwich was no better. Large slab of red Scottish cheddar (apparently). It tasted bland - unlike any Scottish cheese we had on the rest of the holiday. And the bread - mass produced sliced. How can they charge so much for such poor quality food. Luckily this was by far the worst experience of our two weeks north of the border and needless to say we drove straight past on our return trip.

Stopped here on way back from Fort William having just finished walking the West Highland Way over 7 days and not a bad thing to say about any of the places we ate during that time. But this place let us down badly. Had to wait for far too long to get poor quality lunch - kitchen staff seemed harassed and overwhelmed. As mentioned by many others, dismal level of cleanliness in toilets which just unacceptable in a place serving food and makes you wonder about overall approach to hygiene. Apparently impossible to get a drink of water unless you buy bottled water - I cannot understand the reason for that in this day and age. To my mind, it is unforgivable not to be able to offer a free drink of water to customers - even if the establishment has to source it from elsewhere. To summarize, poor food, poor service, poor cleanliness and poor us for stopping there. Just drive past - that's our advice!

Beautiful location on Loch Lomond, unfortunately that was the only plus. We waited 45 minutes for soup and bread, and not very fresh white bread. No brown bread apparently. Staff were rude and unhelpful when enquiring how much longer our soup would be. Surprisingly we were told by a surly waitress the kitchen is too small for the restaurant and there was nothing she could do about that. We asked for some tap water to drink and were told we could only purchase bottled water and would not provide tap water. People at next table did not even get bread with their soup as it had run out. The toilets were disgusting, and no toilet paper. There is nothing of the "home" about this restaurant.

The car park is large with plenty of spaces and the restaurant sits on some higher ground with good views over the loch. We had a very friendly greeting and shown to a table. Menus were quickly brought and the soup of the day explained. We opted for sandwiches and drinks. As we didn't want the salad they came with, we were offered an extra half sandwich. When they arrived they were good, nicely presented, and the coffee was also good. The decor is a bit sparse and reminiscent of a school canteen. However it was clean and tidy and service throughout was excellent and we were well looked after.

We used the toilets before leaving which obviously hadn't been checked all day. Used tissues were lying on the floor next to the bin, the floor was mucky and wet with human hair lying over it. The toilets are antique which wasn't a problem but the toilet bowl was brown and looked like it hadn't seen bleach for years. There was heavy rain that day but toilets should be checked regularly in eating places and should be as clean as practicable. To be honest once I'd seen the toilets it would put me off eating food in this place.

Menu is pretty basic, but staff are great and friendly. Nothing on offer for little mouths to eat, though when k asked if there were pancakes the chef made them especially, so extra points there.

We came here for coffee and cakes after driving by for many years without stopping. It has tables outside and the view of the loch is a bit blocked by roadside trees. The range of food was fine and the prices reasonable. The inside had a less than subtle wallpaper of drystane dyking in some areas and plain white in others with a few framed photographs. The table we sat at had a single central foot and was unstable. The inside was a complete contrast with the expectations of the quaint cottage and a very modern false central fireplace and chimney added to the disparity. Service was slow and they seem understaffed, however the food we saw being served was good, in decent portions and well presented.Plenty of parking and maybe an area behind for children to explore with wild flowers and trees.

We stopped here on our way south towards Glasgow across from loch lomand. We had delicious lentil soups and sandwiches, wonderful service! Delicious scones and tea! Definitely stop here!

Homemade tomato soup was delish! Great soup and sandwich deal! We'll be back to enjoy the food and lovely loch views, the outside seating was a bonus!

I would rarely say 'no' to a cup of tea, but sometimes a cuppa stands out from the crowd! I don't know what secret blend of leaves and local water is used at Home on the Loch, but we enjoyed a really fine pot of tea as we watched the world go by against a backdrop of majestic scenery. The cake was pretty good too!

I was in need of lunch today. I was passing through the area and this place looked inviting from the outside. However, everything inside was horribly disappointing. I read a notice which informed me that I should order my food at the post office which was at the back of a shop - the restaurant was in a section to the right. It was cold, lacked any atmosphere and apart from two customers it was empty. I checked the menu, there was a plethora of rolls and sandwiches listed, but apart from that, there was soup, or fish and chips. I went to the post office and asked for the fish and chips and was told by a very unfriendly person that they couldn't do that because they were not putting on the fryer. So I went back to the restaurant and checked over the menu again. I chose a simple cheese and onion toastie. When it arrived, it looked very unappetising, and had no garnish at all. It was utterly tasteless, chewy plastic cheese and even the onions had no flavour. How is that possible? It was completely inedible and I left most of it on the plate. I paid £9.70p for the toastie and a pot of tea for one. On the menu the toastie was priced at £4.45 and the tea was £3.35. So I was OVERCHARGED into the bargain. Don't try it unless desperation is pushing you.

Six of us for lunch on a busy Saturday...table reserved as asked, and was shown to our table by helpful lady. Lovely choice of specials/soup/pasta etc, something for everyone. We were informed they were very busy and there would be a short wait for our food which was fine, good to be told in advance. Food was delicious, we had a range of lunches and we all enjoyed it. We could not resist a coffee and cake afterwards, what a choice, just lovely. Highly recommend this lovely Bistro. Keep up the good work folks.

Got a fish supper and received one small fish and a handful of chips. Chips avarage, fish shocking for a fishing community like Campbeltown. Greasy fish very thin and soggy like Spngebob.
