Ordered a takeaway from the Angel store last night. Within a few hours I began suffering with food poisoning, and a few hours later so did my boyfriend. We are still very unwell and would not recommend eating from this restaurant as the food is clearly contaminated.

I think this is the worst Indian food I have ever had in my life. How can you mess up a mint chutney? That’s a basic. Their mint chutney tasted like sweet toothpaste. Everything tasted like sugar… The raita tasted like vanilla yogurt beyond expiry date. There was no spice in any of the curries, no flavours or whatsoever. We threw half of it away… They should close this place down.

Best Indian I’ve ever had - I highly recommend the lamb bhuna and the lamb samosas with the mint yogurt. Affordable for great portions and quality

Great food but seriously lacking in the chaat department. If they did pani puri and such we would probably order more consistently

Honestly this is the BEST takeaway in london. Not best Indian. Just best takeaway ever. The staff is lovely, the chef is amazing and the food slaps 100% of the time. I can say I’m truly addicted. The saag paneer is a must try!

Had a delivery this evening and the food was very underwhelming. Really bland sauces that tasted very artificial and a very dull looking nan. These guys used to be great 10 years ago but now with the excellent Dishoom & Kricket around it’s a tougher competition. They could really learn a thing or two from these new guys and quite honestly I’ve had better curries from M&S compared to tonight’s meal. Darn it, even my own Indian curries are better than these guys.

A takeout-only hole in the wall. The food is SO good, but this is not the only good thing about this place. My food was ready for collection (I kid you not) *one* minute late. They apologised and gave me extras. Great veggie options, generous portions and less packaging (the box lid is film) than most other takeout places in London. ❤️ (Less impressed by the chatGPT-generated response below...)

My friends and I had a takeaway from here for dinner. The food was pretty mediocre to be honest. And to top it off - Within a few hours we were all experiencing painful stomach related food poisoning symptoms. Despite only having vegetarian options, I also became ill, telling me these ingredients were also contaminated. I would highly recommend avoiding this place. Do not eat here.

Ordered on ubereats. They have some deals on it and thought I'd give them a go. The reason for this review is the extras provided. I appreciate and respect great service

Truly exceptional food, my favourite Indian place in all of London (I’ve lived here 5 years and sampled countless restaurants). The lamb badami and murgh kebab are just wonderful. All the best for the great Holy Cow crew :)

I’ve been using holy cow for 7/8 years now and honestly the quality has been consistent! By far for me, the best Indian takeaway I’ve eaten in london, it’s not greasy or oily, the taste of the food is fresh, it’s packaged nicely and handles well the next day too! Even though I live in camden I always order from Angel!

Very disappointed....I've just eaten the worse Indian meal I've ever tasted. My lamb was so tough a coconut shell would've been softer and easier. I will not be ordering from this food outlet again, a supermarket microwave meal would have been better..... hard, dry, tepid microwaved meal!!!😠

I’ve been ordering Holy Cow for years, it’s my usual go to for Indian Take out. But the last two times I’ve ordered from the Angel branch via deliveroo it’s been totally disappointing. I feel like they have changed the meats that they use to cheaper ingredients, the sauces don’t taste as authentic. The lamb was sooooo dry. Such a shame as they used to have to some great dishes. Wondering if anybody else has noticed the change. I won’t be ordering again unfortunately.

Avoid- Poor hygiene, poor food safety. Would avoid, watched one chef who was preparing the take-away meal pick out the inside of his ears constantly, then he went on to handling raw ingredients to cook. This same Chef then started to eat while cooking, and after finishing their snack began to pick at his teeth (still while cooking!) then proceeded to handle raw dough without washing their hands. Talk about multitasking. It should be noted that he wasn’t the only kitchen staff eating, there was a taller older individual cutting potatoes and also eating… Overall, Food poisoning for only £33. What a deal. Despite a food hygiene rating of 5, the chefs are most definitely not practicing food safety, and I would urge you not to eat here. If you’ve ever eaten here before, and had food poising, look no further. Would recommend you report them to Islington City Council. The chefs can be hostile and are likely not going to change so reporting them is probably the better option. Everyone should watch the chefs while preparing food, as they are in clear view from both the streets, and the ordering counter. Absolutely shameless. You’re feeding the public not yourself, or family member.

Always consistently excellent! We order Holy Cow for ourselves and also when guests come over and we haven’t had a complaint yet. Been ordering from Holy Cow Angel for over 10 years now and I think that says it all really!! We are often disappointed when we eat out in India restaurants as it gets compared to holy cow, which always wins.

Holy Cow serves an elevated version of your standard Indian takeaway. The spices and vegetables used all taste fresh and it’s a bit more like what you would expect from a home cooked Indian meal than some of the brightly coloured, sweet and greasy stuff often found elsewhere. My favourite dish is the King Prawn Jafrani. It would be perfect if only it were a little less expensive. The menu here is pricing itself at the same level as central London restaurants like Hoppers etc.. I’m not sure the food quite justifies that so for me, Holy Cow will remain an occasional treat and not our regular Indian takeaway.

I've been a customer of Holy Cow's for a few years and always enjoyed their food, but their service is chaotic and unreliable - out of my last 3 delivery orders, one was forgotten about completely and arrived 1.5 hr late after I followed up with them, another arrived lukewarm, and a third arrived 30 mins earlier than the time I'd booked - when I wasn't home. After complaining to the manager, he offered a free meal to make it up. But when I called up in the same week to order the replacement, I was told they wouldn't provide it and that I should maybe try again another day. Won't be ordering from them again - a shame, since their food has always been pretty good.

Three letters one word. Wow! Who knows me knows I love food, I eat out a lot I eat at home a lot, I cook and I scout the best places from Michelin restaurants to street food pop ups, this place is just one of the best Indian restaurants in London! If you want to eat it extra extra spicy, if you can handle the heat, just ask them they will give you the best spicy experience you will ever experience.

My favourite pub in London. Great decor and atmosphere, and ticks all the other boxes you need. Has a lovely old school charm in an unpretentious, authentic way - whilst remaining friendly and welcoming to all. It shows football as well if you're into that, but rarely feels like an overwhelmingly football pub. It feels fitting that their adopted team is St Pauli; a German club known for being the first to align itself with the anti-fascist movement back in the day. All in all a real gem.

We fancied “coffee and cake”. Beautiful little cafe/eatery offering lots of lovely sweet things. My chai latte was lovely, just wish it was in a slightly more generous size. Fabulously comfortable and relaxing. Discreet service and enjoyed our time there. Will be back for the carrot cake with the walnuts!
