I love my Friday visits to hollytree chippy for my chippy tea its delicious and very popular and I would highly recommend it if you are a lover of fish and chips

Visited this chippy today first time in months ….. really fancied chippy tea should have definitely gone somewhere else after last experience here thought give it another shot. Chips disgusting very dry look like left over scraps exceptionally dry tasteless … gravy steak pudding freezing all needed reheating only live two minutes away. Price shocking do not waste your money on this chippy not the same as many years ago sadly. Staff definitely need re training how to cook good chippy food that you don’t mind paying decent price everyone needs to earn a living ….. this food is really disgusting

Ordered 3 cod and chips. On arriving home opened the packaging to find 2 haddock and chips. Not happy. All a bit chaotic at 6 pm. Suggest you check you're order before leaving. £10 out of pocket!

We embarked on a journey to a traditional fish and chip shop to try some of the unique dishes they had available. I could have spent a considerable amount of time admiring the walls, which were decorated with fascinating food items. The chippy was impeccably clean, and the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, even offering two small fish as a gesture to compensate for the unavailability one larger fish that day. However, I was quite satisfied with the small fish, which, to my surprise, wasn't as small as expected. The chips were exactly to my liking: thick and flavourful, accompanied by some crispy, shard-like pieces for an added crunch. The John Bull was the standout dish, so delicious that I regretted not taking a few portions home with me. The battered Mars Bar and Creme Egg were exactly as one would anticipate, making for a delightful dessert. And of course, I must mention the haggis pourover! I so wanted to give a zero rate but not had the option to do so. Well what can I say 🤔 I have not been to holly tree chippy in Blackburn for a couple of years due to the poor quality of the food. As my normal place I go to was closed I thought I would give them another go hoping standards had improved what a mistake! I order a lightly battered fish with a portion of chips and a carton of peas. The fish was an odd shape like the frozen kind had a thick batter and was over cooked, the chips were not palatable at all had an awful taste and as for the peas well let’s say that half of the carton was water. Needless to say they won’t ever have my custom again as I would rather do without than buy there!!!! I would also like to mention the staff, they were all young girls serving and looked as if they were ready for a night out with the amount of make up they had and they long hair tied back in ponytails with no hair nets at all, their hair was swinging about whilst they prepared the food so god help if anyone found hair with their food. I personally think that if serving/preparing food then hairnet’s are an essential part of the uniform.

I have just popped into Holly Tree Chippy for a couple of bags of chips. It is not my usual chippy, but living in the Livesey area and having heard good and bad reports, I thought I’d give it a try. The service was quite slow, but they were busy so this was fine, however, when I asked for 2 portions of chips the older woman who appeared to be in charge said that the new chips would be ready in a few minutes, which I said was fine. The young girl then started to prepare 2 bags of chips which I didn’t think were for me as I was supposed to be waiting for the new chips. The girl had to scrape the chip tray 5-6 times to try and get enough chips and as I was at the counter I could see the amount of chips she was dredging out of the tray. Looking at the chips I had assumed that they were two small portions for somebody else. As such, I was somewhat surprised when she gave them to me. I asked the girl if they were two regular portions and she said yes, I then looked at the older woman and she simply shrugged her shoulders. Despite the size of the portions being very small, but I thought I’d give them a go and see how they were. However, when I got home the amount of chips I received were ridiculously small, if this was a regular portion I would be shocked to see how they could give a smaller portion. The options for chips are small, regular and large portions, with the small portion being £1.60 and the regular being £2.00, so not exactly cheap. The quality of the chips was disgraceful, at best they were luke warm, with very few decent sized chips and lots of small hard “bits” of chips. It was clear that the chips had been made a long time before they were given to me and the fact that the girl had had to scrape all the old chips out of the chip tray, irrespective of the fact that I had asked to wait for fresh chips, was evidenced by the small, cold and hard chips that were given to me. The fact that I was charged £4.00 for a quite frankly terrible experience was just adding salt into the proverbial wound. I would suggest the prices at Holly Tree chippy are expensive and the quality you will receive is so poor you’d be better off going anywhere but there. I will certainly never go there again. If I was asked to score my experience out of ten, I would give a score of zero and that would only be if I couldn’t give a minus figure!!

i go usually once a month , i get cod and peas its usualy exelent but today . junk it was NOT cod it was dry on one side ... sorry but if its cjunk its junk

soggy batter , discoloured chips certainiy deteriorated and looking at the reviews from previous it has been deteriorating for some time, cost £20 15/ £15.00 worth went in bin will not be going there again any time soon

The best fish and chips I've ever tasted, and my partner had the spam fritters, which he said were the best he's ever had! Top marks for the delivery service and the food was still piping hot. Thanks Holly Tree for a delicious tea. Sam and Colin x

Absutely abhorred treatment by mangement after they did our order wrong. What's so difficult about 2 fish and chips with lots of salt and viniger (specially requested for) mushy peas and a drink. Had to ask for the drink which wasn't written down, so not included, and they didn't trust me because they had to ask the girl who had taken the order and gone to the back. So after a drive into Tockholes to watch the sun set we opend our polystyrene trays and found no seasoning on the fish and chips at all. We phoned, by now the food was getting cold. Their reply: we have seisoned it, but you can always come back to get some more. We said food will be cold by the time we can be back. So we asked for a replacement, she told me, not exact words, that that was out of the question. No can do! It wasn't cheap but it will be their dearest set of fish and chips they've ever sold. We won't be back.

The delivery service has been a godsend for my Mother...always on time and always hot. The staff are patient and most helpful, this is a chippy I can thoroughly recommend.

We phoned an order through for collection given the current circumstances and we were allocated a time slot. We arrived exactly on time and their timings were spot on! One customer in, one customer out. Really thorough and safe process during difficult times. The food was delicious and fresh. We will definitely be ringing through again.

As my local chippy I would have thought I would have frequented the establishment often, but like many things on your doorstep the convenience is taken for granted and not taken advantage of. Until this weekend when the OO car park was full so the thought of waiting for a take away was not a good one. So off to Holly Tree Chip Shop. No Fish in warmer to be seen, a good sign they will cook the, fresh. Ordered 2 fish 1 chips 1 curry sauce 1 peas. The chips were immediately taken out of the warmer and wrapped, then 2 fish appeared. I thought Bonus just out the fryer. Oh no, these fish must have been destined for the bin and my order rescued their fait as waste. Both fish in hard batter dried up and inedible inside. Disgusting that the server would even consider selling these. I won't go back, simple. So if you go there be mindful. BTW the chips, peas and curry were good, such a shame and an eventual waste the fish turned out to be.

Don't get me wrong the food was decent enough but I wouldn't say it was outstanding. Service was fair and food was reasonably priced.

My favourite chippy! Fish is lovely here. Nice owner too. My man likes the steak pudding. Always tasty.

Always a pleasure to visit weekly and a sausage for our dog too. The fish is large and fresh. Lovely Cod, Haddock, Scampi and all the other chippy favourites are there with some local specialities like John Bull's and rag puddings.Always happy and cheerful staff. Love the pie and fish choices, all you would expect plus not just the run of the mill, best steak pie. They also have a super friendly team. I go back every opportunity I get.

Had a fish for lunch today both my wife and I. The last few times the batter has been a bit thick, in fact you could have rendered the gable end of the house with it.

Always busy. And not surprising because they serve only the very best fish and chips cooked to perfection. All sorts on the Menu. All the Staff are just great and always make you feel so welcome .

After a busy day at work, neither me or the other half felt like cooking, so we decided to try Holly tree. The last time we went it wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst in the area either. This time was definitely the worst fish and chips I have EVER tasted, as soon as we unwrapped them I said they looked and smelt disgusting, the chips looked and tested like they had been cooked hours ago, kept warm then refried. I do find if the male owner isn't in attendance then it isn't at it's best, this night he wasn't working. The fish was a pale and mushy flesh, even the dog didn't eat it. Sorry Hollytree, but we won't be returning even if we have another busy day at work. Just to add, I am a chef do I know what I'm talking about, why it is so popular, I just don't know.

I have used this chippy regularly over the last few years. The food is very good and the service was great, staff were very nice and clean. The fish is always very good and the batter lovely and crisp. One of the best chippy,sin East lancs. We will be back again soon.

Regulars at Holly Tree, family run traditional chippy who go the extra mile for people with complex needs. Whether that be gluten free and other allergies or a delivery service for people who can’t get to them. The staff are lovely and do their best to provide excellent food and not too expensive either.

Firstly we have to mention the John Bulls - a Blackburn delicacy apparently but definitely hard to find - never had a bad meal or service here and thinking about it will be popping in tonight to pick up a family treat for tea!

Pero la semana pasada, después de un par de malas experiencias en una tienda de chips no demasiado lejos, decidí finalmente en la colina y encontrarlo. Me alegro de haberlo hecho! Estaba bastante concurrido cuando entramos. . . Siempre es una buena señal, creo. El personal y fryer era muy agradable y podía sentido era un 'tienda felices" para el personal y los clientes por igual. Así felizmente ordenados bacalao y patatas fritas y un pastel de carne y patatas fritas macizos. Me aseguró que la tarta la freidora bien podría ser la mejor tarta uno podía conseguir de una tienda de chips. . . . Y que mi mejor medio dijo que era justo eso, "brillante", dijo. Tuve el pescado. . . Que cocinado a la perfección y de un buen tamaño. Me pareció que las comidas eran una excelente relación calidad-precio, y servido con una sonrisa alegre por el personal encantador. Las patatas fritas eran sabrosos con un poco de sabor de gotear a ellos? ? Me pregunto si utilizan gotear la próxima vez que vaya. . . que será muy pronto!

Este "fish and chips" es sencillamente el mejor "fish and chips". Si es mejor que me he encontrado. El propietario y el personal son excelentes. Siempre feliz de saludar a clientes habituales y nuevos clientes con el mismo servicio amable feliz. Incluso cuando la cola está fuera de la puerta y a medio camino de la calle que no te dejan con nada menos que las patatas fritas perfectamente cocinada. Este chips solía ser el mejor y único mi madre comer en (lo que dice mucho). No hemos sido por unos meses, pero para la cena esta noche y visitado que tengo que decir, muy decepcionado es una lástima - pescado estaba como siempre, pero las patatas! Qué ha pasado? Sólo puedo repetir los comentarios de abajo, que estaban secos, tenía los ojos negros en la mayoría, parecían que habían sentado allí durante horas y la mayoría no eran más que patatas fritas.

Excelente pescado y patatas fritas en este lugar, no ir a ningún otro sitio. La comida es fresca y el bateador en el pescado es siempre crujientes, el personal es amable y los clientes son siempre colas a la salida de la puerta que no puede ser una mala señal.

Realmente exquisitos pescados y papas fritas, excelente servicio y ciertas noches hay una 'Noche' Sin Gluten. Si su necesidad de gluten es el mejor "fish and chips" que he encontrado por ahora. Bien vale la pena el viaje. También muy razonable también. Altamente recomendado.

The owner is beyond rude, complaining about parking around the shop even when attending his fish and chip shop he shows you straight out the door for a parking space. The food is average; how 5* was gained I'll never no, the shop isn't the cleanest nor the welcoming.

To my mind their is nothing better than the original British takeaway......the fish and chip shop.This is the best one, by a mile, in Blackburn.

The chips have been going downhill for months. They let the whole take away down. I will think 'Will just try them again'. On a couple of occasions they have been OK, but WAS a regular, once a week customer. They do not look appetising either, black bits/eyes in abundance. Hard overcooked bits, like they have been left sitting for ages. Spoke to various other people, who have the same opinion. Your fish is beautiful and everything else that I have tried is quality too. Maybe, the potatoes you use need changing or something.

The fish and chips from here are awesome. They will even lightly batter your fish if you ask on entering. The fish is delicious and not at all greasy and the quantity of chips is amazing.

hollytree is the best chip shop in Blackburn and surrounding areas it can never be beat. we try to go at least once a week fantastic.

5* Chippy! Not a bad word to say! The chips are the best I have found and my husband always comments on how light the batter is on the fish.

Went to this chippy as my sister is coeliac, only to be told that gluten free day is the first Saturday of every month!!!Its not some sort of fad, or special day to be held 'once a month'. People suffer with this and its nice to find somewhere that cater for it, except this place only caters for coeliac once a month!!!!Will not be trying it!!!

This could well be the best chippy in the area; I certainly don't know of a better one. The chips and fish are excellent and there's a good range of locally produced pies and puddings. Usefully, they are open for both lunch and tea everyday except Sunday. The shop is smartly turned out and spotlessly clean. I'll be there for tea on Friday.

Visited at dinnertime, staff friendly, food nice and hot. Like a lot of chippys smell made my mouth water. Unlike some chippys the taste was as good as the smell. Lovely fish and chips.

Well i must say the staff are very polite and friendly and always smiling so the boss be doing something right lol. The fish n chips are amazing so fresh and hot. the size of the fish are huge and the chips are proper chips not the cheap frozen rubbish you can get. I cant say enough about how good they are here . you just need to try it for yourself and youll be hooked .

With out a doubt the best chippy in Lancashire! The lady's behind the counter are always friendly even though they are rushed off there're feet as the place is always busy! The fish is always perfectly cooked and chips always golden. We take plates and cutlery with us in the car as we travel quite away to get there and enjoy it in the car outside :)

A great chippy on the outskirts of Blackburn. Chips were really excellent and the John Bull was fantastic (mince between two slices of potato deepfried in batter - only found in the Blackburn area - I think).Opening hours are restricted to lunchtime and teatime.Next time we are in Blackburn we will be retuning!!

Always busy because it is so good. But the service is fast and friendly. The batter used for the fish is great. And I like the option of a smaller fish portion if you are not too hungry. They also do scampi in portions of 7, 10 or 14 pieces and they are tasty. Prices are very fair. The owner is proud of the quality fish he serves.

The food is good but the staff often forget to put part of our order in the bag. The mushy peas and gravy are my fave.

Does exactly what it says on the tin. John Bull is a favourite, fish always fresh and not greasy, great meal deals. Friendly, competent staff. When you arrive don't be put off by the long queue, they are there for a reason and the queue moves very quickly as the staff are so coordinated everyone knows what just what the other one is doing. I have never seen fish or chips keep being replenished to keep up with demand. Of course sometimes you might have to wait a while whilst the next fresh cooked batch is ready but rest assured as soon as one batch is out of the fryer the next is ready to go. Can recommend the rag pudding, awesome every time. Sometimes if you are the last one in before they close you might get a little extra too, waste not want not, excellent.

This place is amazing.. What ever you fancy from.a chippy you will get plus some. Really good quality really good service only thing that was disappointing was 3 of us were eating from here and I got half the potion of chips to every one else think this was due to my being last and them waiting on more chips to be ready. Which turned out to be fine as couldn't even eat all of it anyway but when you've all paid the same its a little frustrating. Other than that great chippy.

Having read the previous glowing Reviews I looked forward to my visit.. I'm afraid that I was to be disappointed. True enough the staff were indeed very pleasant and the choice extensive however the fish and chips were merely average.. Best in Blackburn, if you say so but I can only surmise that previous reviewers haven't left the Blackburn area too often.

This is probably the best chippy in Blackburn. Always very good lots of special deals. No curries or kebabs here very traditional. Lots of certificates including recipe for health. Denotes the attention to making the food as healthy as can be.

The chips are not as good as they used to be and we tend to not order them anymore. A year or slightly more back, Holly Tree used to eye all the potatoes. Maybe I am fussy, but before this the chips were so yummy. Ordered the All Steak Pie several times recently, very disappointed too. Tough beef largely. Used to be lovely, tender beef in a fine shortcrust pastry. The fish is absolutely to die for. Probably the best chippy in Blackburn, but attention needed to the chips.

Just take outs , small .....but the food is excellent ! They do offered on Facebook , cut out vouchers . Very friendly . Love it !

A regular at this chippy, you have to queue for your supper but that's because it's the best in town. Good portions, good value. Environment spotless, staff friendly although rushed off their feet.

This fish & chip shop is by far the best I have ever been to. The shop is spotlessly clean & the staff are fantastically friendly. The menu has so much on it that I want to eat but the fish is just so good I always end up getting that, a 'moby' which is the biggest fish I have ever seen. It is never greasy in the wrapper, in fact the batter is so crispy you'd have thought it was fried in your own kitchen there and then! The portion size is great, never to skimpy but not over facing.. Holly Tree Fish & Chips is well worth a visit, from anywhere in Blackburn and possibly further afield.5* Chip shop...

Great fish and chip shop. Fish and chips always well cooked and never greasy. Large selection of pies taking the best from a number of local producers. And the crowning glory of a John Bull. If you have never had one, go to Holly Tree Fish and Chips for a true Blackburn treat.

We visited this fish and chip shop as we'd see not had won an award. The shop itself is spotlessly clean with a clear concise menu. The chips and fish weren't at all greasy like so many can be and our lunch time service was quick and very efficient too.We will definitely return again in the future.
