We have had a takeaway through most of lockdown to present day and have enjoyed everyone. We normally stick with the same items, chicken curry, special fried rice, ribs or sweet and sour chicken balls or prawn satay. Never been disappointed as we have been at other local Chinese Takeaways. Chicken is always breast not scrag end and rice is fluffy and quite a generous portion. Not sure if they changed chef tonight, but chicken curry sauce was different but much improved 👌

We are loyal customers of Ho Lok for over 10 years, but tonight NYE 2020 couldn't get through on the phone, ordered online, 2 hrs later nothing! I didn't get a confirmation email, and the phone didn't even ring when we called, so we thought you must be closed. "The mailbox is full, you cannot leave a message". You need to figure out a system on your phone to let people know what is going on. We made other arrangements for food. 3 hrs 15 later, the food arrives? We had to send it back. Terrible communication and your big foodie online system is terrible. We're really sad.

Unfortunately we thought the food was really boring. Bland. The ribs were nice, but everything else was a bit meh.

Ordered takeaway, was told ready in 20 mins, went after 20 mins, kept waiting further 25 mins, complained and angry chef refused to apologise, had refund and left. Chef was wearing unclean clothes and was aggressive.

Had a takeaway from here for a friend's birthday and we were all very pleased with our decision to use Ho Lok. The food was good, delivery was on time and hot, and via a very jolly driver.

Couldn't be faulted. Had a large family get together so ordered online. The meal was delivered on time and everything hot as it usually is when making smaller orders. They gave us lots of prawn crackers and bottles of coke on top of the order. Will certainly be going back there.

My husband and I get our regular Chinese takeaway from Ho Lok and are always more than satisfied. Fast delivery, piping hot delicious traditional Chinese food and no bad aftertaste or high msg content. Really recommend.

Only accepted cash so i had to walk down the road and back which was annoying / unnecessary - why not just charge a little extra to cover the cost of a visa machine? Food was ok but absolutely nowhere convenient to park so bring a friend to stay in the car whilst you pick up. Second average chinese in Watford.

10 years ordering , the rice and the noodles are always too dry.....i always have to order a third dish to use the juice on the other two dishes, i was feeling more for rice and noodles and i asked for some extra oyster sauce, i didnt want to pay extra as it is always dry egg powdered rice and beef noodles noodles tasteless unles you use the sauce. unfortunately most of the chinese restaurants around watford are similar. i was told no, and that it was too late too close to 23pm.i asked to speak to a manager /refused. next day i called back the same "alice" refused to let me speak to a manager and cancelled my telephone order. over the last ten years and several other addreses i always order my chinese from them. never again

My husband and I have been ordering from Ho Lok for the last 2 years on average twice a month. We like their food as they cater well for vegetarians. Today we ordered sweet corn soup from them and informed the lady on the phone that it should be vegetarian, i.e. no chicken. We received the soups and on my first mouthful realised that there was chicken in the soup. This is disastrous as I am vegetarian. I called Ho Lok back and informed them of the mistake. The lady on the end of the phone was helpful and said she would speak to her manager and call me back. She called back within a few minutes and said they would send me a replacement soup and she confirmed she had noted that the soup should have no chicken. Therefore, I said that I had eaten some of this soup and as I am a vegetarian this was against my religion and disastrous. As the mistake was admitted and as we were loyal customers, I asked that we be given a refund in addition to a replacement soup. We consulted her manager, who then said she would speak to her boss. Her boss would not agree to this, he said it would either be a replacement or a refund. We heard him shouting in response to our request in the background. He did not apologies and did not have any consideration for loyalty. We had to agree to a refund only and will never order from Ho Lok again merely because the boss does not understand how to give good customer service. We were left without dinner and very disappointed.

Raw pork mince in our dumplings, totally inedible, and an overall massive drop in quality from used to be a good takeaway. Never ordering again and they won't be in business much longer if this is the slop they're serving. This used to be our go-to Chinese takeaway in Watford... WOW how times have changed! Must be under terrible new management. I wouldn't hold my breath on getting our £45 back (we ordered on Uber Eats so it's a matter I've raised with them, but still) The bad (mostly bad): Pork dumplings were RAW (uncooked, cold mushy pink mince, took a bite and spat it out, we inspected all the dumplings and all were raw inside). Half of the salt and chilli chicken wings were replaced with chicken goujons (which were mostly just pieces of batter). My usual favourite chicken and pepper in black bean sauce was utterly bland and watery and contained no pepper except for one or two small pieces and overall looked like an entirely different dish (it also came with beef instead of chicken, which I'd normally accept as an honest mistake). The egg fried rice was really overcooked mush. The sweet and sour sauce (I think that's what it's meant to be??) tasted of nothing at all, like it was just very vaguely sweet and tasted of nothing else. Same for the curry sauce, very bland and it had congealed. The serving of prawn crackers was easily 50% of the portion we normally get and that is pretty standard from other restaurants. £2 for like 10 pieces of fried batter? I know times are tough for restaurants but they're taking the absolute piss. The few "okay" bits: The prawn toast is totally different to how it used to be, but wasn't terrible I guess. These used to be stuffed full of prawn, now it's typical takeaway fare with hardly any filling and too oily... but pretty standard. Noodles were a little greasy, but again pretty standard for Chinese takeaways (again used to be way better). Mini spring rolls were fine (the only thing that came as expected). Honestly, I could swear this was a totally different restaurant. It is COMPLETELY different to everything we've had in the past and it's a TERRIBLE drop in quality, even if we ignore the raw dumplings. Don't waste your money, this place is clearly not destined to be in business much longer. Real shame because we used to really like this takeaway, it used to be a rare Chinese takeaway that was actually pretty good. Never ordering again. One star for service and atmosphere because it's irrelevant for a takeaway and this is rightfully a 1 star review. Such a shame.

Great food, generous portions and prices that outstrip everyone in terms of value.

Great Chinese takeaway. The yellowbean chicken is always amazing, as is the crispy seaweed and spring rolls and chicken satay. A bit more pricey than other takeaways, but the food is always amazing. Delivery is always quick. Online ordering is very easy too and updates are given on timing which is useful.
