Absolutely rubbish grilled tomato wasn’t grilled snotty poached egg sausage barely cooked used to be a great breakfast toldit was a new chef

Terrible service was seated quickly but no greeting. Sat for 30 mins with nobody offering a drink then had to hunt someone down to ask if we can order to be told didn’t know anybody was in our seats. Order eventually taken again very bluntly food took an age to arrive. Defiantly won’t be coming again

Excellent service, great food at great prices , quirky set up as you can buy anything from fishing tackle to chandeliers and hot tubs, very relaxed , certainly recommend ,

I visited last year, to deliver something to the owner and decided that on the next visit I’d have a meal. It’s a very unusual place which doubles as a hot-tub and chandelier showroom (there are upwards of 100 chandeliers hanging from the ceiling!) A huge log-burner sits in the middle and is fired-up during cold weather. Service was very quick, despite it being busy on Saturday morning. My flat white and double breakfast arrived piping hot! Many of the ingredients are locally sourced - and it shows! Deeply golden fried eggs and delicious bacon and sausages. Flat mushrooms too! The beans came in a ramekin, which I like, as it prevents everything getting covered in tomato sauce. Overall, a very enjoyable experience and reasonably priced (the flat white was twice the size of one I’d had elsewhere a couple days earlier - and 50p cheaper!) Will eat there again, whenever I’m delivering in the area 👍

Amazing space - selling jacuzzis, mirrors, metal signs, chandeliers, coffee and cake! We had a welcome hot chocolate and cake - plenty of parking but the best bit was an amazing waitress who was very helpful making our choices.

Lovely place, especially as we were sat next to the huge wood burner in the middle. Our waitress Julie was friendly, and didn’t push us along as we were waiting for our fourth guest to arrive. Food was hot and delicious. A little short staffed, but once prompted they made good our request. Good value for money too.

From cracked tea cups to not putting in our order, Home and Eat have fallen short of what was once a lovely place to go for family lunch. The quirky, rustic atmosphere has been replaced with a dimly lit, cold, dusty warehouse. The staff are kind but unable to do their job, and as much as free drinks are a nice gesture, 1hr half wait is not suitable for children. Even when the food arrived, my vegetarian order wasn't even the right meal, I know eggs benedict is very similar to eggs florentine, but to a vegetarian, there's a big difference.

Flew into Stansted from France & drove into Bishops Stortford looking for breakfast. In traffic queue & noticed this place, went in and got a very warm welcome from attentive staff. Breakfast was brilliant, Tea pot had leaf tea & a strainer. Everything was top quality, very tasty, piping hot and cooked to perfection. Staff service and friendliness was great. Unfortunately we live over 2 hours drive away, but have friends in BS so will go back for brekkie when we visit them or use the airport (it was the only one with flights to Tours, France). We had the 'basic breakfast'. The ingredients seemed good quality. For what you get we thought it was a bit pricey. Toast was extra (per slice), and we were surprised to have been charged for ketchup. The mugs of tea could have been filled up a bit more, as only just over half full. We could not fault the service however, and the staff were friendly.

We booked this for Sunday lunch & we knew roasts weren’t available, but that was fine as I saw yummy things like sausage & mash, bubble & squeak, etc on the menu. On arrival we had to wait as no one came to greet us. When they did come, we still had to wait as there were several tables (including ours) still with all the stuff left from the previous diners, even though they’d gone. On sitting down, the first words out of the waitresses mouth were ‘we don’t have any any avocados, pancakes or bubble & squeak’. Couldn’t understand why as Tesco’s is a 5 minute journey away!! Ordered our food & everything came quite swiftly except a portion of fries that the waiter went to check on. 10 minutes later & no sign of the waiter, the meal was nearly finished, went to ask what was happening & 5 minutes later someone else bought the said fries to us. We were going to have dessert, but all 4 staff (only 7 tables occupied with diners) seemed far more preoccupied with polishing cutlery, etc. We were left so long that the left over food on our plates had congealed & funnily enough we didn’t feel like eating anything else there. The burgers apparently were great, but the sausages tasted like the skin was made of plastic. This was meant to be a really special & memorable meal that sadly will be remembered as it was SO bad. We won’t be back 😢

Popped in on my lunch break as I was working near by and decided to see what their food was like. On arrival it was quiet as my lunch break time was well before the normal lunch period. I didn't have to queue and so was able to order quickly. At this point It was ordered as a take away as I decided to take it back to my workplace to eat as I was alone. This was explained to the person serving me and I asked for an estimate of how long it would take and I was told 15mins. I want to highlight that the server knew I was on a lunch break. I ordered one item. I was quoted 15 mins...... .....45 mins later I was still waiting. My lunch break finished in 15 mins and I still needed to get back to work. I approached the staff and explained the situation. There was no apology, no explanation and I was told "they are doing it now, 5 mins". 12 mins later I stated I had to go as my hours break was nearly up. No effort to apologise or provide a refund and they just said it's coming it's coming. So I left hungry so as to not be late back from my break. I should point out now that being alone I had a lot of time to people watch. I could clearly see i to the kitchen and they were not busy. In fact at one point 2 of the 3 chefs or kitchen staff spent 15-20 mins emptying bins, cleaning, or standing talking. At one point a male on the bar went I to the kitchen and came out with his own lunch which he proceeded to unhygeinicly eat at the bar. Well ... They had time to make his food. ..... They had time to talk and and undertake basic cleaning and tidying tasks. I mention the above as I made contact a day or so later and was told it was my fault for not pre ordering. I was also told it was lunch time and it was busy. Again ONE ITEM after 50 mins still wasn't ready ! yet staff had time to eat. Time to get food cooked. To do routeen prep cleaning and tidying. I was quoted 15 mins !!! No apology ever No recompense.... In fact never got a refund despite desperately trying to resolve by email and letter. Yes this was last year.... But I've TRIED SO HARD to give them the opportunity to make this right..... Or even to just give me my money back. But nope. Absolutely appalling hospitality and customer service standards. I'm sure this is no suprise as a female manager spent time while I was waiting shouting at the man behind the bar for eating while working as it was ubhygenic and didn't look professional. Certainly he was more focused on his food than customer service. They may be amazing when all things go well. However when something minor goes wrong they are the ultimate example of terrible customer service. It was only £10 and I'm only one customer but they didn't care about me or my needs or feelings. Held off this review until it was clear I wasn't gonna get anything in response. Receipt available and sent to company when initially emailed.

Memorable setting, comfy seating, varied menu, great choice. Full English memorable. Real tea, proper coffee. Delicious quality ingredients. Memorable venue.

We’ve given this place the benefit of the doubt and have been continuously let down so we will not be returning or recommending. They are clearly not interested in training their staff who continue to be extremely inattentive. Even though they seem to have a new set of staff each time you visit! We went in on a quiet Thursday afternoon…there was already someone at the bar complaining. There were at least 6 dirty tables that hadn’t been cleared. We were waved over to a table (after hovering around at the bar and eventually asking if they can seat us) waited some time just for the menu to be brought over… 10 further minutes had passed with no communication from the staff. We watched as the waitress prioritised attempting to clear a table, before being distracted and wandering off. We waited another 5 minutes before deciding to leave. Maybe one day they’ll read these reviews with a view to make positive changes to their business but until then, we’ll be going elsewhere, where acknowledgement of paying customers is a priority and not a chore!

We visited as we often do for lunch today . The experience was not as good as it usually is . First of all we waited to be seated a lengthy time although the restaurant was not even half full . When seated the waitress asked if we wanted a drink whilst we waited ( for what ? ) , we ordered two different types of coffee from the menu . Nine minutes later the drinks arrived . We then ordered our lunches , the contents of my breakfast bagel had to be cooked , so I did not mind wai for that . When it arrived it was generously filled . I was disappointed that the Fried Egg’s yolk was hard , and the white of the egg was over cooked , brown and crispy around the edges . The Bacon , Sausage and Hash Brown was excellent . My partner’s Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Bagel was generously filled , and in Her words “lovely” The meal was also spoilt by two screaming babies , which obviously was not down to you ! However we will visit again , and we were not put off

Truly awful, some of the worst customer experience for years. Visiting from abroad, came with an extended family and young kids. Huge mess up with the order and despite asking 5 times to multiple staff, an hour later food still hadn’t arrived despite other tables who had arrived later being served first. To top it all off we escalated to manager ‘Kyle’ who needs to have a long hard look at his own ‘customer service’, arguing against what he said in front of 3 of us, retorting ‘I’ve got a camera pointed at you’ (I didn’t realise customers were put under huge surveillance these days). Massive disappointment with the kids waiting for their lunch that didn’t appear, and also for a place that used to be nice to visit to have fallen so far. I would advise strongly against a visit based on the shocking customer experience we endured.

We had a lunch there today , exceptionally good food , well recommended . The second time I have ordered a “baguette” with a filling and Not been disappointed . A good place to visit for a tasty meal .

Have just had lunch here and have to say it was pretty awful. The service was terrible, about 6 staff walking around doing nothing. It wasn’t busy, maybe about 30 people there. I ordered soup which came out on a hot plate with a little butter pack that had melted on the plate. Soup was like porridge. My husband had the breakfast and he said it was tasteless. The lady that served us was friendly, she seemed to be the only person doing anything. Won’t be going back.

Visited with family, ignored when we walked in by rude staff. Can I suggest to the management that they invest more money in staff training and what customer service is.

Terrible service. We booked a table at 12 noon for food in a Sunday. After sitting around for a while we found the kitchen didn’t open until 1. It had closed for brunch at 12, just after we had arrived. We couldn’t order brunch. We couldn’t order lunch. It was a mistake it seems but the manager was obnoxious, he didn’t want to accept the mistake, it was all our fault. We left, KFC in the service station down the road.

We booked for a family get-together, 12 people including three children, for lunch at 12 mid-day. When we arrived they told us it was carvery only and it didn’t start until 1.30! And of course it was entirely our fault for booking at the wrong time, according to the manager. Not a charming man, and no customer service ethic at all. He really thought we booked to sit around for an hour and a half with no food on offer? So we left. Really awful service. Or lack thereof.

First time visiting here after travelling back from Essex. Definitely won’t be the last time we visit either! The food was fantastic, “the best steak pie I’ve had in all my 52 years” in the words of my dad ! Service was also outstanding, staff were highly assertive and very friendly! Would highly recommend!

I went along for a comedy night having not been here for a couple of years and the space has changed quite a lot.It feels unique in terms of set up with reasonably priced drinks in a space quite unlike any other in the town. The comedians weren’t really that great, (although that’s just my opinion), but I would go back to see a band or other live entertainment as I really do like the venue.

We have been going to this place for sometime now and have even bought a hot tub as a result of going there. The breakfasts are great full English is enormous but very very nice. They have a good selection of food on the menu and a specials board. If you just want a coffee or a spot of breakfast or lunch this is a very pleasant place to visit. The staff are very friendly I would highly recommend it.

A word of warning. I had breakfast at home and eat today and ordered 2 sausages 2 bacon, beans, 2 slices of toast and pot of tea. Bill came to £11.90. When I queried the price I was told it was this much because I didn’t order a set breakfast and amend it. Be careful all as it seams the staff aren’t told to show customers the best way to order. It was amended to a more reasonable amount of £9.00. So if you do go, order a set breakfast and remove items you don’t want. The last time I went with my other half, we had breakfast and it was only when I got home I thought £23 was a lot for what we had. Now I know why.

This was my 1st experience here, so the Christmas party night was £20, I didn’t expect a great deal from somewhere being this price,but the night was awesome, the food was lovely, granted not hot as such but the place was packed, the food tasted really nice, the potatoes tasted home made not frozen and the veg too, the staff were constantly busy but any questions I had, they made time to answer and help the best they could. The atmosphere was great, people were there to have fun, there was no trouble just people dancing and having a good time. I am super impressed with this place and would happily come back for another night out or coffee/lunch. The staff did an awesome job, and they deserve a pat in the back, xx

Very disappointed. I am a regular visitor and usually have a cooked breakfast but having had to send it back last week as the beans were cold I decided today to have coffee and cake. Unfortunately they had no GF or Vegan cakes. So today it was just coffee whist my friends had a cooked breakfast. I spoke to both managers and asked if there was any reason they were not offering GF or Vegan. One manager said they don’t usually have GF or Vegan cakes the other manager said the person that makes the cakes was on holiday. All their cakes look amazing it is disappointing there was no GF or Vegan option.

Had breakfast here and it was excellent, great service, staff, food and good value. Great for meeting up with friends or just logging on to your work laptop. Has a very extensive range of evening events now also, so will definitely be reviewing some of those in the coming months.
