Not our first visit to this charming Hotel in a lovely setting. Whilst previous visits have been very enjoyable, on this occasion, I was violently ill within hours of eating dinner. As we had both eaten the same meals for the past 48 hours, the only thing I had eaten differently was the Plaice for dinner. Although I understand that these things can happen, I was appalled by the attitude of the management. We left the Hotel early on the Sunday morning, before 8am, as soon as I felt able to travel. My partner had gone to reception to pay the bill and explain the reason for our quick departure. I emailed the Manager the following day as I felt it important that the Hotel were made aware of how ill I was and the reply firmly suggested that I should have insisted on speaking to Management at the time. As I was so ill, I could barely stand, this would have been out of the question. However, my partner had informed reception as to the reason for our early departure. We assumed, wrongly, as it turns out that she would have informed Management. The tone of the response left me feeling rather as if it was my fault if someone else got ill as I hadn't told a Manager until the next day. My response to that is that any item suspected of causing a problem should have been removed from the menu immediately anyway, and it shouldn't have been that difficult for the reception staff to speak to the dining room who could have confirmed what I had eaten! Often, in life, it is not the problem that we remember, but the way it was dealt with. In this case, my 65th birthday celebration was ruined through no fault of my own and 4 days later I am still feeling very fragile and very let down by the Hotel Manager. We shall not be returning here, which is a shame, as previous visits have always been enjoyable.

We were celebrating a special birthday. The room was a large principal double room and was exceptional. The evening meal was excellent and the breakfast was just right. The staff were lovely. Only point to mention was my husband had asked if we could extend check-out by a couple of hours and we could for £50 which we thought was too pricey so didn’t.

On this occasion I stayed as a single person but couldn't have been made to feel more welcome. I had an excellent room (Manon), very comfortable, ground floor but there are three steps up from the Living Room to Bathroom which some people may find a little tricky. However, Reception do seem to take this into account when allocating rooms.

We stayed as part of a function. Our room was the heart of Oak and a room we stayed in before and previously had raised some issues about flies and bugs, unfortunately the same issues remain there are a lot of dead flies and lady birds in the room. It's also very dark and there isn't a suitable place to sit and get ready for the evening with good light. The water pressure is low in the room and the shower stopped working completley during my shower. The evening food was delicious absolutely no complaints. Breakfast though was extremely disappointing especially if you paid £24.50 each, we were all sat together although all arriving at different times, not offered tea and coffee or additional toast apart from the earliest couples. Full English was dry and tasteless, everyone's poached eggs were solid. If we stayed again for an event then we'd specifically ask for a different room.

It was only one bug we were told, but there is never only one bug. The hotel does look nice. Vicky one of the waitresses was excellent throughout our stay, and all the servers were good.

It was a lovely sunny and warm early autumn day when made made our first visit for lunch. The Hintlesham Hall estate was looking superb. On entering the main building we received a warm greeting and immediately felt totally relaxed in the surroundings. After enjoying a pre lunch drink in the impressive bar, we were taken to our table in the wonderful oak panelled dining room. The 3 course lunch menu is exceptional value for the money. After enjoying all 3 courses, we spent a most enjoyable hour with coffees in the garden. Whilst in the garden, we observed other guests tucking in to the afternoon tea. From the smiles on their faces, we could tell they were also having a good time. Thank you to all at Hintlesham Hall, particularly the 2 girls who looked after us the most, for leaving us with very good memories. Prebooked for Sunday lunch at a specified time for a celebration with long standing friends visiting from overseas. The food was great but the service left much to be desired. Although we had asked by email for pre-drinks from 1300 and to sit down at 1330hrs and this request had been acknowledged by email, we were rushed throughout the visit. Arrived 1300. No bar staff until 1310 then drinks in the lounge. Requested to give our menu choices 1315 and again almost immediately, seated by 1320 as the food was already on the table getting cold! The cutlery was changed for main course whilst we ate the starter by waiters pushing between us at our corner table. All was rush, rush, rush. Afterwards, we spoke with the duty staff manager who was rather dismissive and said that she knew nothing about our requested timings - so we subsequently wrote to management. Subsequently, they admitted that messages had not been passed from the bookings person to the waiting staff. However, we felt that the real reason was that a wedding reception was due to start at 1500hrs that afternoon and the staff were concentrating on this - at the expense of sunday lunch customers. A poor experience. Despite the lovely food, we will not rush back.

As always a very comfortable dining experience with excellent staff. We had the Christmas lunch which had all the usual trimmings, not over-large portions but quite adequate. The disappointment was with the gluten free option (prior notice given) where the gluten containing items were just removed from the dish! No alternative/substitute offered and same price. A few months ago the chef had cooked a chicken dish from scratch to be gluten free - wonderful, and this has encouraged us to return. Making gluten free sausage meat and bread for example is not beyond the capabilities of the well qualified chefs at Hintlesham Hall.

We ordered the Christmas meal as a main with a small pudding to follow as dessert. The meal arrived promptly, and after giving ourselves a toast, we tucked in. Where do I start....the three potatoes were certainly not "Roasties" as we were used to, they appeared to have been in the oven for a very brief amount of time as there was some colour on them, The four brussels were Al Dente to the extreme ,close to being raw, and the wee sausage wrapped in bacon was a bit on the crispy side. The Turkey itself was tender enough, but probably the best thing was the gravy. I wanted to complain, but my wife insisted that we drink up and leave. Which we did.. Will not be going again.

I had pre-booked a Christmas Lunch. The Starter of Ham Hock Terrine was ok. The Main was very disappointing. Cold, fatty Beef surrounded by a very small handful of rock hard inedible vegetables, and the dessert should have gone in the bin! A small microwaved Xmas Pudding that had dried out to within an inch of its life, covered in cold custard. As it was inedible, this was brought to the Waiters attention, who in turn just shrugged it off, and asked if I wanted Coffee. When the Coffee arrived this too was barely warm. All in all an awful meal, and a total waste of money!! I've had better since then at almost half the price.

No butter or spread in sandwiches which had been over chilled in advance so you couldn’t really tell what you were eating. Cakes were uninspiring. The scones were good. Bravo. Had a hell of a job to find someone to pay. Some rooms, large as they were, at least had music to give atmosphere, ours did not amd as we only shared this huge room with one other couple right down the far end, there was not a cosy atmosphere. We had asked for spread instead of butter and a little more staff training would have helped as they didn’t know that no covering was used at all. A huge amount of money for such a poor experience.

We ate here as part of a Sunday B&B deal. Expectations were pretty low as the hotel is a bit fusty and dated, but it was more than ok. The menu reads beautifully - the chef clearly knows where he/she is heading. The dishes, however, are a bit like aspirational Masterchef dishes - not quite there. My grilled sardine starter was like fish paste on toast from the 70s, I expected crisp grilled sardines but the fish was smothered in tomatoes so soggy, and on a big slice of toast which was too filling for me. My husband's lamb croquette was a much better choice, meaty and rich. He ordered a better main course too: chicken wrapped in parma ham with a very rich jus. My seabas in squid ink sauce tasted bizarrely sweet, with a bland prawn ravioli. My best dish was dessert, apple and caramel creme brulee which was delicious. Although my teeth were almost ripped out by the mini toffee apple that came with it - the toffee was chewier than anything I've ever had.Is it a high end restaurant worth £38 per head for the Table d'Hote menu? No. Could it be? Yes.

We have enjoyed afternoon tea on a summer afternoon at Hintlesham Hall so we thought we go again. We made a reservation but on arrival there was no table laid in the lounge. Although a minor point, we did have to wait for the table to be prepared before sitting down. After a bit of a wait, we were able to order our tea. In due course the tea pot and hot water arrived. Neither were piping hot and the tea was extremely strong. By the time the food arrived our tea was well nigh cold. The food comprised sandwiches, a scone each with cream and jam, cake, iced eclair, jelly and cream and a crumble tart. The sandwiches were not freshly cut with the white bread noticeably stale. The scones were probably frozen as the texture was not right with parts being much crisper and drier than others. The cake and eclair were nice.I had some difficulty in finding the waitress to ask for another pot of hot water. In all distinctly disappointing for a hotel that prides itself on its food and service.

We visited Friday evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary after an absence of some 2 years. The establishment was clearly very busy but our pre dinner drinks arrived promptly with superb amuse bouche. Then I'm afraid the visit deteriorated. When we were shown to our table I was amazed to see our wine choice already opened. After waiting some time and after our starters were delivered I decided to pour our wine but was interupted by the sudden appearance of a waiter who decided to overfill my glass. Our starters were OK.We both chose the grouse for our mains which were to say the least very average. The gouse was overcooked, the potato was not cooked, the lentils were al dente to the point of raw and the jus tasted burnt. I informed the waiter of my disappointment.I declined a sweet, my wife made her choice which again she described as average. When I settled my account the cost of one grouse was removed from the bill but both were poor!Given that even with the reduction of £26 the bill was £120 and add to this the taxi and our little excursion was in excess of £150.I am quite happy to pay for quality hospitality but this fell well short and it will be a long time before we return.

Firstly, great receptionist! This was a last minute Anniversary “treat” for my husband and I. We don’t get away often and we were excited to be having a night away. The room on arrival was ok but the bed was tiny so we paid £25 for an upgrade. The room we were given was lovely, but......It was very hot even though the heating was not on and we opened windows, there were pipes running right where the bed was and it wasn’t until we went to bed that we realised it was too hot to sleep and the mattress was rock hard...I got around 2 hours sleep....was the worst night I’ve ever had in a hotel. Now, the dining experience...we went to the bar for a pre dinner drink. The bar doesn’t have any music or ambience and is very dimly lit. Here you are given menus and your order is taken including your drinks order. My husband ordered a bottle of red wine and I ordered a large glass of white wine. We were shown to our table in a very stuffy and dated dining room playing classical music in the background and zero atmosphere. We were seated but my husband changed his chair as it was rocking around. The bottle of red was brought to the table and the waitress asked if we would like her to pour the wine....she proceeded to pour a large amount of wine into my husband’s glass without asking him if he would like to taste it and only stopped when he asked her to....my wine was nowhere to be seen and we had to ask for it after 5 minutes of waiting for it. Our starters were average and we had to season them heavily. The mains were a little better. Not once were we asked if our food was ok and my wine glass was empty for a very long time and was never asked if I wanted a top up...my husband also poured his own (we were under the impression this was a fine dining restaurant!)After dinner we went through to the lounge....it was so deadly quiet and dark in there, we decided to go back to the room to put the radio on! We laughed that it felt like an old people’s home...so depressing. Due to the bad night we had, we left the hotel by 8:30am!Overall, the most disappointing night of our lives...should have been an Anniversary to remember.

My partner and I spent a lovely weekend at this excellent hotel, which is nestled in the countryside in the heart of Suffolk. We stayed in The Gallery, a huge junior suite in an annex to the hotel, which featured a King sized bed on a mezzanine level which was approached by stairs. Fabulous en-suite facilities including a delectable rainfall shower.

We came here for afternoon tea from work just after Christmas and received such poor service, including one of our party being expected to perch on a stool rather than being given a chair, that we were offered a voucher for free tea and scones. Before the return visit one of our party, who can't eat dried fruit, phoned up to request plain scones and followed this with an email to that effect, which was acknowledged. On the day of the return visit no plain scones were forthcoming and, when questioned, the waiter just said they needed to be booked in advance. When we pointed out that we had indeed done that, he was rude and dismissive and just said that there was 'nothing in the book' about plain scones, so it was too bad. So, we had 2 bad experiences at Hintlesham Hall and none of us will ever return. Shame because the grounds are beau.

Eating in the Grand Saloon is a real treat. There is no pretension here, just lovely fresh food, properly prepared and presented. Waiting staff are efficient, helpful and friendly. The wine list has some very good stuff too.

The food in the hotel restaurant is good, but the dining experience was spoiled by some very poor service. My wife and I were looking forward to our evening dinner but the whole meal was spoiled when the waiter trod on my wife's foot, even though it was inside the outside diameter of the table - incredible! He offered an apology, but this ruined a birthday dinner completely. The waiter then presented my wife with a champagne bucket filled with ice - thinking this would help reduce the swelling to the area of her injured foot! We eventually got the ice transferred to a plastic bag so that a compress could be achieved to reduce the swelling and bruising. But what a shame that a special meal was spoiled by the actions of a clumsy member of staff.

Having been gifted a cream tea voucher which was due to expire in April, I contacted Hintlesham Hall to see if they would both extend this date and enquire if we could use this against an evening meal. They without hesitation agreed to do so and last evening we went for our meal. The food and service was faultless, so much so we have decided to return later in the year. Good old fashioned service at its best!

Hintlesham Hall is somewhere that I have always wanted to visit and an offer on Travel Zoo for an evening meal gave us the opportunity to do so. Our deal gave us 3 courses from a set menu with a few options for each course for £49. The quality of food and service could not be faulted, all the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The portion sizes were sufficient to mean we didn’t leave hungry but equally didn’t feel totally stuffed! The hotel is high end in terms of its furnishings and ambience- I don’t think it is somewhere that I would be able to visit frequently but I was glad to have the chance to do so via this offer.

we chose this hotel above the others as the location previous right ups were just fabulous, and we weren't disappointed, from the organisation to the lovely greeting we knew we were going to be very happy. the day started better than expected as they had Tesla chargers on site, and then it got even better, the reception staff were amazing from Molly to Zoe, nothing was too much trouble. That evening we enjoyed a gourmet dinner, starting with drinks and canapés in the lounge bar, dinner fabulous and ended with a coffee in the lounge with chocolates. Breakfast was completely fabulous with anything you would possibly want and we had a treatment in the spa, it wasn't an amazing spa, the rest room was basic and the hot tub as a simple easily bought in one, and outside, but the treatment was really good, we both had Indian head massage. that night again a fabulous, ous dinner. the room was lovely, large with everything provided in the bathroom, I have nothing negative to say about this hotel, the rooms were a delight, lots of history comfortable seating and the pictures on the wall were very grand.I would recommend this hotel to anyone

Nine of us went for lunch over Easter. ALL OF US, yes all, were served either inedible roast beef or inedible roast lamb! A replacement plate of lamb was brought and this was equally bad. The waiter said chef blamed his butcher??? A good chef should always try before serving. This pathetic excuse did not help us. The table really did not get an apology either. The bill was amended but this should never have happened in the first place. We have lunched/dined/attended functions here on many occasions but this really spoilt what would otherwise have been a lovely get together. Our local pub serves roast lamb to die for!. Should also add ONE waitress was trying to deal with all tables, hence service was very poor. Tip-- AVOID lamb and beef dishes until chef gets his act together. What is going on here now??
