Hins Chinese in Selby

Used to be great, but since covid NEVER deliver on time - not once. Will stop using now, really disappointing.

Ordered from here tonight. Asked for a mushroom omelette and curry sauce amongst a few other things. Had to ring up as any issues with allergens it stays call. Explain that my partner wanted a plain omelette, not a mushroom omelette and curry sauce be mild. When delivery arrived, The omelette contain mushrooms and curry sauce was Hot and unbearable to eat. Not happy with the service tonight phoned up and no apology was given.

Got a leaflet in the mail today of this place and decided to try it with family for dinner - easy to order online on their website (can call too) and it turned out to be one of the best Chinese food we’ve had in a good while! Very flavorful, the sauces were nice and creamy, rice and noodles cooked perfectly - all in all absolutely would recommend! :) P.S. The food arrived while it was still hot which is always nice!

Had a leaflet delivered today so thought I would give it a try ordered one main meal with chips, 2 hours later and 2 phone calls still no food although was reassured on both calls the order was on route shocking service won't be using again

Absolutely the best Chinese takeaway ever. Never been let down and tried various different things on the menu. From the taste, it must all be freshly cooked, with proper quality ingredients. Speedy delivery, always hot. Beef and duck are particularly good. So are all of the starters. 10/10

Chicken wings in ok sauce and special chow mein were enough for 2 and absolutely gorgeous.

Under previous management, this was a great place but it has been ruined now. 3 orders and this will be the last one. First order was missing the egg fried rice, I had to go back there and they did not even say sorry about it. The second order last month for delivery took over 2 hours to be delivered and when insulin is taken in advance of delivery it needs to be somewhere near the 45 minutes quoted. The final time today and egg fried rice is missing, absolutely useless and I give up on the place. Time to find a new Chinese.

Ordered 2 vegetable Singapore Noodles but on opening found they were meat and seafood. We are vegetarian, but worse my husband has a serious seafood allergy. We rang up, the order was checked and Hins agreed to deliver the correct order in 35-40 minutes. 55 minutes later we are still waiting. The food smelt delicious and no doubt we will try again, if that order is correct and good, I shall amend my rating. At the moment though, it's not satisfactory at all.

The website does not work when ordering more than 3 orders. It crashes everytime, I have done this with different phones. So I had to put two different orders on two separate phones, and they had the audacity to cancel it stating “it was a duplicate order for the same address” when clearly it was two seperate orders. They even had the cheek to say that they do it all the time. I can’t recommend this place at all, poor service, poor delivery management. To put the icing on the cake, they have delivered the orders separately. Still waiting on the second one. I mean how inefficient is this? Absolutely ridiculous. This change of management has ruined this once loved takeaway.

Ordered for delivery to DN14, 15 minutes late no worries as you make allowances for traffic however missing the egg fried rice (didn't notice until after driver left) and the Hot Chilli (3 chilli) on the menu was very mild very very tame on heat, the only heat was from the Mild King Prawn Curry, only a personal view but if your after a chilli heat not good 😞

Got a fairly large order; rice, noodles, curry & chicken balls. Everything tasted great and came at great time. The only downfall is that about 2 thirds of the chicken balls were undercooked and inedible. Will be trying again as this could’ve been a one off.

Yet again waited 1hr 45mins for food delivery. Food not as good since new owners taken over either..

Absolutely stunning. Hins has come under new management so thought would give it a try and my god was it the right decision. The salt and pepper chips were unparalleled. The salt and pepper chicken wings were like actual wings, big, crispy, but flavoursome, and not dry. The OK sauce was really, really, really good, and the vegetable chow main was perfectly dry with gorgeous noodles and ecstatic flavour. Prices were awesome. The food was delicious, and the portion sizes were perfect. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Hins new management, please stay on this path as you are the best Chinese takeaway in the world at the moment. Thank you.

Had two takeaway meals from the new owners of hings tonight No prawn crackers which we ordered ,the massive pork balls was covered in batter which were really soggy plus no pinaple in the sweet and sour meal My chicken curry was not enjoyable as the sauce was so hot and very dark sauce. Rice was ok but chips greasy so sorry won’t be going back .

Best takeaway in Selby, I’ve tried all and hands down Hins is the best, other takeaway are no way as good and no flavor in taste.

Ridiculous shambles, ordered for a specific time, 4 phone calls and many false promises later, the food turned up 1.5 hours late.

The fact that every single time you order its an hour late when you have to pay 2.50 for delivery to our village that is no more than 10 mins out from selby is disgraceful. Do better by your loyal customers

There are only five stars but I wish there were 1000 because that’s how many stars it is. This Chinese is honestly unparalleled. The food here is insurmountable in scrumptiousness, every time I take a bite out of some luscious Chicken curry my body permeates with exuberance. Tasty is an understatement, everything in this takeaway is flawless, the time it takes to make my meal is unrivaled and incomparable. My body convulses in utter joyousness because the food is unprecedented. Every time I take a bite of the food a tsunami of flavor encompasses my whole body.

I had to put 1 star to write the review but its not worth the 1! For starters the service is awful, I was overcharged for items I didn't order because the man misunderstood me even though I repeated this several times an he confirmed it back. When I asked for the correct change he was highly aggressive telling me my food was cooked and I had to pay. Disgusting ignorant man! The food was horrendous chips were like oven chips I've never had anything like it and fried rice was bland and rubbery. Do not waste your money or time going here they do not deserve your business an you don't deserve the pitiful food they serve!

turned up two hours after ordering when only supposed to be 40 minutes then changed to an hour which was fair enough but then didnt turn up for an extra hour on top of that with no contact to say it would be so late. Not worth the wait as not as nice as other yellow thai curries I've had. Watery sauce. Chips are nice.

Absolute rubbish delivery service 1 5 hours late

The food is ok but the customer service is disgraceful. Last few times we have ordered the food has been over an hour later than the revised delivery/collection time. When calling to ask for an update its still in the kitchen cooking. Even tried ordering online before it opens with a requested time of 6pm and still no luck. Won't be using again.

Disapointed Absolutely love this Chinese and I am not a person who complains but I'm afraid I will be changing Chinese after 4 consecutive weeks of poor service. Given them the benefit of doubt and supported during lock down but tonight was final straw. Week 1 missing items Week 2 pre orders for 2 hours and arrived in 3p mins Week 3 nearly 2 hours late Week 4 nearly 2 hours late and stone cold when arrived. Plus it got "shoved" to me be delivery girl. No "sorry its late" Appaling. Looking forward to ordering from the Red lantern ....

Fab service 👏 Called last minute to change something. Just in time as it was in the car ready to go. No problems whst so ever thank you. Always enjoy there food. The drivers are great too.

So we ordered a takeaway from here at 5.30 and had a notification that it would arrive at 6.30. By 7pm we were wondering where it was and did give them the benefit of the doubt, thinking that it was Saturday night and they were probably busy. We rang the takeaway and after asking where our takeaway was we were told that it was still being cooked.. what!! Over an hour and a half after we ordered it. Eventually after ringing again and enquiring at 7.45 it arrived at 7.50 pm... 2 hours and 20 mins later. When we started plating it up we realised there was no curry sauce that we’d ordered and a massive 4 inch bone in our salt n pepper chip 🥺... over the last few months this takeaway has definitely gone down in my expectations and won’t be ordering from there again.

Food is decent but takes far too long to deliver, I’ve used Hins for years but the last few times it’s taken 2-3 hours to get our food. When you call to ask what the delay is you get the same answer every time, it’s just cooking and then it will be with you shortly. Will have to start using Regency instead.

Order taken at 1920, no food at 21:12. Phone them up and ask what is the delay told they are very busy will be at least another half an hour. Told I will get the order by 10pm then puts phone down. Might have it for breakfast if we are lucky If I could give it half a star I would

We have ordered a couple of times from here now and the waiting time is horrendous!!!! This order we have been waiting over 2 hours and nobody is even answering the phone to see where it is!! Will not be using them again 😡😡😡

I was told this was the best in selby. If it is the best the rest should shut down. Had veg spring rolls, chicken satay and egg fried rice and chips. Tasteless and the chips were the best part. But the staff were nice and friendly. I wouldn’t go here again. Sorry.

So, our order was running late tonight, it happens, we are all human, mistakes happen, not a problem. Anyway when our order was delivered by a lovely lady driving a black car n wearing a yellow jumper, she couldn't apologise enough, she gave us the reason for the late order, our address had been misread, so had gone elsewhere. This lady took it back to the shop n had it replaced for us, she then delivered it with huge apologies n was beyond sorry. I didn't catch her name as my son opened the door to her. So, YELLOW jumper lady we love you n you definitely went above n beyond for our meal. Thank you so much 🥰🥰

Food is fairly good but 2-3 hours wait time is a joke. You are always told 45-60 mins, yet when you ring 2 hours later he laughs down the phone and just says "very busy". Stop taking people's money of you can't deliver in a resonable time!!! This is the last time we order, waited 2 hr 50mins tonight and food was average

Orded at 5:20pm to be delivered at 7:30 they changed it to 8pm at 8:45 rung them they answered and there was shouting. Very rude on the phone they then told me it was going to be another hour so cancelled it. They told me it was busy but a pre ordered meal should be made on time will not use again.

Don't be fooled by the 3 stars, the food is superb and probably the best in Selby. Just need to get their delivery sorted.

Ordered here for a change as our usual place was closed for my sisters birthday. Unfortunately they were nearly 30 minutes late after delaying the delivery time once already, the duck starter which we wanted to treat ourselves to was very dry and they keep the bone in the tray to make it look more full of meat and the sauce wasn’t pleasant. My sister received the wrong main dish which was gutting as it was her birthday and was looking forward to it very much, my main dish (peking sauce with chicken) was tasteless and watery. Very disappointed I’m afraid.

Food delvered half an hour late, food was disappointing.

Very very disappointed with the service. Ordered 5 dishes for a get together family meal at 6 pm. Told delivery would be 30 mins. Gave surname & full address. Waited a hour, nothing, so I rang to be told address could not be found, no number to ring, (I was not asked to provide my number), & it would be another 20 minutes. Told them I would collect instead. On arrival the price increased by £7(!?) and when our vegetarian family member eventually got to eat her meal it was full of meat! A bit worrying for anyone with allergies. We'll be going elsewhere next time. Plenty of choice in Selby.

Nice chinese cant really fault it

Had a meal from there this evening. Absolutely delicious. Singapore noodles look pricey on the menu but honestly they were worth every penny loaded with meat and prawns. Special curry also top. The place was recommended to me and I can see why. Best Chinese food we’ve eaten in years.

Ordered at 6.30pm for 8.15pm delivery. Chased at 9.10 to be informed that still not cooked as "Too Busy." Could not give a delivery time. As a returning Customer. Hugely disappointed !! Well, you won't be too busy next time as I will not be returning.

2hrs 15 mins for delivery and no communication from Hins about this. All we got when we phoned was ,'sorry we're busy' !!! Order eventually arrived and food was very disappointing, chicken curry very bland.

Hins is our family's favourite Chinese takeaway. The staff are friendly, and the food is consistently great! We've tried all the different Chinese takeaways that Selby has to offer, but we always come back to Hins. 👍🏽

I ordered chicken balls few weeks ago, it was gorgeous but last night... it has a super thick dough around the chicken..i ordered chicken balls not dough balls...also the chow mein is greasy and sauce is bland...delivery is late again!! only point to note is friendly driver at the door.

Website is wrongly priced when ordering was over £5 more than online menu then the owner laughed when i decreased the order 4 1 sayin do i not have enough money and charged me 120 for delivery when im 1 mile away and theres no delivery charge before 3 miles then when my order arrived couldn't eat it coz he'd destroyed it with spring onion when i asked for plain defo give hins Chinese takeaway 0% rating which i did prefer💩shitservice

I ordered last night at 7.45 and was told it would be 20 minutes my girlfriend rung them at 8.55 and asked where's the order? "It's on its way" not how long just it's on its way bearing in mind this is 50 minutes later than originally told. Rung again at 9.15 to ask where's the order? "It's on its way" so 10 minutes later still not arrived so ring again and cancel the order to be told not to bother ordering from there again! My experience with this establishment was appalling and after nearly 2 hours waiting for your food to be told not to order from them again is bad and don't worry I won't be ordering from there again it's discusting behaviour and poor customer service

Appalling service , wrong information given out. This is the second time we have order now and ended up having to go elsewhere both times. The just eat app says that the food is delivered however when we called them they say the food hasn’t even left the kitchen. To then get told it will be another 30mins for our food, totalling to over 2 hours! what a waste of time. Takeaway is meant to be a treat not hard work!

Absolutely disgraceful! 2 hours and 10 minutes late, didn’t even give us the correct order, and had the cheek to blame the delivery driver however when I rang half a hour before it came they said it was only just been cooked! Didn’t offer no compensation such as free food or discount off our next order! I certainly will NOT be ordering from here again!

Usually very good but this time ordered on the app put details in etc came up with not what I pressed to order and the delivery driver couldn't find my address when I clearly put the postcode on the profile but then rang and decided to speak to me like a piece of **** rang restaurant and eventually came with no apology or anything never using hins again

Hins is a nice Chinese which uses fresh ingredients, delicious every time, best Chinese in Selby.

The food here is very good, unfortunately I won't be ordering ever again. The food is consistently late (35 minutes today) and when I rang to ask if there was a problem with my order I was told "if you are unhappy with the service you can just not order". So this is what I will be doing - taking my business elsewhere. Good food, terrible service.
