Hinderton Arms in Cheshire West and Chester

Wonderful meal with the family, the food is top quality and reasonable portion sizes to match! The steak pie was 👌🏻 and the Sundade desert is huge! the service was really friendly, shout out to Emma for looking after us!

I visited the Hinderton Arms on Mother’s Day with my family, and unfortunately, I was served and ate raw chicken. It was charred black on the outside, so I didn’t notice straight away. However, after a few bites of the burger, I get into the middle and it was completely undercooked and visibly pink inside (I thought the same thing you might be thinking – clean grill, right?). And here's the best part...I became unwell afterwards. The entire experience ruined what should have been a nice evening for my mum. Not to mention, the other meals weren’t exactly great either. I didn’t make a scene in the restaurant, it's not my style, and I don't even like writing this review. I quietly got up, explained what had happened, and left. I followed up privately afterwards, expecting the issue to be taken seriously. Instead, I was told that "all controls which ought to have been employed to guarantee the safety of your food were being employed." Well, it was raw!... like properly raw in the middle, not slightly, it was nearly clucking so I wouldn't be so sure on that one. I was then offered a voucher I’d never use and told the matter was closed. I don’t want a voucher, I wanted reassurance. Since then, I’ve been ignored completely. No proper apology, no explanation, and no evidence that they’ve done anything to ensure this doesn’t happen again. I figured maybe they would compensate me for being ill, if not through an apology using words due to a fear of a legal matter, but perhaps through action, but no. Now, I’m just being ignored and they think that a voucher is enough to silence me. The way they handled this has been just as disappointing as the meal itself. I gave them every chance to make this right, but clearly, customer health and trust don’t mean much to them. I wouldn’t eat here again that's for sure, and I think others deserve to know what kind of response they might get "if" something goes wrong. The staff referred to me as the "raw chicken guy"... seems even they weren’t shocked, so this could be a regular occurrence.

Definitely wouldn't return. No atmosphere and overpriced food I felt very sorry for the waiters really trying to whip up some enthusiasm from the nearly empty pub.

We have been here once before a while ago and the food was fantastic. We went on a Sunday early evening and we were very disappointed in the quality of the food this time. We had the roast and trio of chicken and both unfortunately not worth the amount we paid. There seemed to be one lad rushing around , he was helpful and polite but food for some reason is not what it used to be. Such a shame as the pub itself is lovely.

Super late review but we came here for a family catch up on Thursday 27th March and were among about three other tables in the restaurant. We were also the last to leave but nothing was too much hassle for our server or the MOD. We were well looked after. My family comes here quite often and we have our parties there and have never been disappointed. We had starters, mains and coffees and have no complaints. Shame it wasn’t busier as this restaurant is a credit to Neston! Thank you to Adam and Liam for great service!

My wife and I visited The Hinderton in Neston earlier today 6th April at appx 6.30 pm and ordered 2 roasts. Unfortunately the food failed to deliver and had all the signs of not being fresh. We were both surprised and disappointed at the quality of the food on this occasion as we had visited several times in the past and had good meals. We raised the comments with a member of staff who was very understanding avd advised would pass on the comments ( we were given complimentary coffee and mini deserts due to the issues). Later that evening my Wife and I both suffered with bloating and upset stomachs, hope this was just a one off.

Booked a table for mothers day and was made to wait as was told our table was not ready and to go the bar to get drinks while waiting for our booked table after waiting approximately 15 minutes at the bar nobody served us so we sat down after waiting 25 minutes we decided to look to the manager as to why our booked table was not ready for some reason they had forgotten about us and we was then seated at the back off the building to find many empty tables and seating area . The food was not the best for the money they charged probably be ok to go when it's not busy however they are so unorganised when it's busy there large groups were seated immediately and waited on I was in a small group off two made to wait around 30 minutes to be seated when table was pre booked don't think I would be going there again after that experience

Set meal for £28 on Mothers Day. Trio Roast of pork, turkey beef sounded great. Those in my party who had steak or fish prepared freshly had excellent experience. Rest meals were inadequately warmed up pre-prepared disappointing fare. Soggy, discoloured cabbage and soft greying roast potatoes. Waited an age for service. Staff seemed to be trying to put us off having sweets as we were last party in. They appeared tired, stressed and demotivated.But when we are paying over £200 for a party of 5 , having driven for a special meal nearly 20 miles, that's not our problem , is it? Will not be returning in a hurry.

Visited on the evening of Friday 28th March, my wife & I both had the same meal (Duo of chicken). It was tragic, the chicken breast was very dry and the "glaze of BBQ sauce" was more of a slight drizzle, also the "dressed rocket & cucumber salad" was a few pea chutes and some sliced radish that would have sat comfotably in a table spoon, not a piece of rocket or cucumber in sight. When I raised this point with the staff there was an uncomfortable aptmophere because of what looked like a row betweed the kitchen staff and front of house staff, none of wich resulted in us being offered anything more than an apology from our server. we paid our bill (just under £50 for the 2 mains & 2 pints) and had to endure that uncomfortable situation where the card machine is asking you how much tip you want to give while the staff leer over you. Well if you're not going to deal with bad feedback from your customers while they are giving it to you face to face then you can have this well deserved review. Such a shame, the Hinderton Arms used to be a great place for both great service & great food. Perhaps this explains why the place was almost empty on a Friday evening!

Sept 2024: Be aware that the menus you are given, including the "specials" menu, are only approximations of what you will get. After ten minutes deciding what to have it isn't until you try to order that you are told "oh, sorry, we're out of ALL starters on the specials menu! The staff also won't tell you that they have run out of key elements of the dishes you can have. They just serve you with the item missing, hoping you won't notice! When pork is meant to come with crackling, it's pretty obvious when it's missing! All Sunday roasts are meant to come with roasted root vegetables, but apparently, they'd run out of that too! What they do serve you with is tasty, you just don't get all that you're paying for! Mother's Day 2025 We decided to give them another chance, what a mistake that was. 2½ hours, nearly an hour of which was waiting for our deserts order to be taken and then served! 3 melted caramel sundaes. I feel sorry for the one waiter who was trying to look after the whole restaurant. Starter and mains were very nice but I'm sorry, no third chance!

Nice friendly pub but as it's a Greene King chain why not play live sport . Especially in the bar area nice tv above the fire place for example . Definitely missing out on customers . Will this change under new management?

Location and interior are inviting but the food is a real let down. Felt cold and lacked atmosphere was like sitting on a nursing home. Service was ok however no one on bar to serve. Food was poor, overcooked and obvs just reheated lacked real taste. Seabass was tough and potatoes really overcooked the days was bland. Roast dinner was really disappointing. Turkey was really tough agin overcooked and the beef was meant to be rate with burnt offerings on the edges. No mash and pig in blanket was a normal sausage. Roasties overcooked and vegetables like mush. Won’t be back good is inedible, unappealing and overcooked.

Myself and my other half. Booked online . Arrived and was seated quickly. Our server Ellie waited on us with a very friendly relaxed personality. We asked a few questions about the food and Ellie was happy to help. The atmosphere was abit flat and quiet no background music. would have been nice. Food wasn't too long and arrived as expected. We was happy with the basic fair pub food. Clean restaurant and the bill was good. Overall it's a nice pub. Likely attend again for a simple meal out.

It's a while since we visited the Hinderton Arms as we'd been disappointed in the past. Well, tonight was a great improvement, we tried the festive menu and were pleasantly surprised. A quite different Christmas selection all cooked to perfection and at a reasonable price point. Great service from all the staff especially Harrison our waiter who looked after us admirably. We'll certainly be visiting again in the near future. ***Update*** Visited again tonight, service as usual was very good and at first the food appeared to be as good as our last visit, that was until I cut into my Steak, Mushroom and Ale Pie. Unfortunately there wasn't mushroom for the steak, or to put it another way there wasn't any Steak in it. Many apologies and the pie discounted off the bill helped but our pleasant evening out was tainted and we left. I'm sorry Hinderton Arms but your standards, like a lady of the night's underwear have definitely fallen!

We have just been for Sunday lunch, although the food tastes OK, unfortunately it was cold and we asked for it to be heated up in the microwave, the staff were all pleasant, but unfortunately we will not be returning.

We visited the Hinderton on Friday 14th Feb. We were greeted with a friendly and warm welcome . We were especially pleased and impressed with the waiter service. Ellie looked after us perfectly in every aspect of dinning hospitality. We liked how She made recommendations from the menu. She was very polite, friendly yet curtios. Definitely one for promotion. Well done Ellie. The food arrived quickly, was hot, well presented and tasted delicious. We will definitely be coming back next time we are in Chester. Jag and Edwina

Visited the Hinderton just for some lunch and casual drinks. It was just what i was looking for cozy fire, relaxing with my chicken sandwich really tasty along with a great selection of drinks to choose from i was spoilt for choice. Thank you Hinderton Team

Food was Fab Front of house staff were very friendly and helpful But really long delays, took 2 and half hours just to get lunch. Loads of things on the menu were not available and we were charged for things we didn't get which took ages to sort out. Maybe it was a bad day? but won't be rushing back to find out

We dined on 1thh January instead of our our pre-booking at The Pollards in Willaston. They did not inform us they were closed for refubishment and cancel our booking. A quick booking was accepted at Hinderton at very short notice. Our reception was warm and friendly from Mark. The attention to good service was top class from Emma assisted by Mark. Emma was pleasantly friendly and a superb understanding of customer needs and was exceptionally prompt with service. Nothing was too much. We will return. Pollards loss, Hindertons gain. Well done Emma !

Nice food good staff but drinks are ridiculous £50 for 4 double vodkas because they charge you £15 for the diet coke splashes. I realise if I order a glass of coke I would expect to spend around 3 to 4 pound for that coke but £3.75 for a splash of coke in a vodka is nuts. When this was questioned we were informed thus is the normal for greene king so in my opinion green king need to look at their pricing as we won't be going back even though the staff, food and place was nice . FYI this is on the wirral not central London

Had christmas dinner at the Hinderton with my mum and the food was flawless. Everything was fresh and tasty, service was fantastic, our server checked in with us very regularly to make sure we were OK and kept us topped up with drinks. It was our first time having Christmas dinner here but it won't be our last - it was a lovely experience.

Absolutely terrible! We had arranged to visit the Hinderton Arms a couple of weeks in advance to our visit. We has paid a deposit, for our party of eight, and explained one person in the group has dementia and we will need everything to run as smoothly as possible not to upset them. We had been in the restaurant twice in the previous week to discuss our needs with the manager. He had given us an email address to send our meal order in advance. I has also rang and confirmed the address to make sure they had our order. We arrived at the Hinderton Arms on time, at 1:30pm, to find no one knew about our pre-order and our table not ready. A scruffy middle aged man just barked at me, from behind the bar 'you don't email pre-orders' and walked off without apologising. We waited another 15 minutes while staff pushed tables together and got our table ready. We just had to stand in reception and, again, no apology, or explanation. Then the terrible service started. On six occasions one of our party had to ask where our food was. We had to ask twice for our plates to be cleared - when we could find staff to ask and, eventually, finished our meal after three and a half hours! There where only two other tables occupied so they couldn't blame being busy for our ridiculous wait. In this time we had to make the member of our party, who has dementia, as comfortable as possible. When we went to pay, again we has to wait, no one apologised for the amount of time we had to spend there, or give a reason for the terrible service. Surly, rude staff. Incredibly poor customer service and mediocre food. In all one of the worst restaurant experiences we have ever had. I would like someone to respond to this complaint, but I'm not going to hold my breath!

Great family pub,always come here around christmas and enjoy the evening.

Brilliant food ..succulent tender beef ..beautifully cooked veg..helpful friendly staff..considerate as we had a 2 year old with us and we were seated where there was froom for her to play without disturbing other diners. Staff dealt kindly and sympathetically with an elderly lady who was taken ill...stayed with her while her daughter fetched the car, reassure her and supported her walking thro the restaurent. Nothing was too much trouble...for fuller recommendation see my entry on trip advisor.

Half the menu was not available and was very limited I ordered what I thought was steak and ale pie, it was served warm not hot and i couldn't find any meat in the pie what so ever, even the chips were pale and hard definitely undercooked I was very disappointed and expensive, I don't think I will visit again

Large group of us attended. We chose the set menu weeks in advance. Table was booked for 6pm. At 8:20pm I was served my main course. When it arrived It was cold and lots of other people in the group complained their food was also cold. My pudding was lovely. When we complained the manager told us that the hot rack wasn't big enough to keep everyone's food warm. I'm sure it would be nice if we were in a very small group.

Unfortunately not great. We were a party of 22 with pre booked orders. My main was cold and my starter was tasteless and burnt. The service staff were nice and only bring food from the kitchen so no negativity about them. Meals took ages to come, we booked for 6pm and some didn’t get their main meal until 7.40pm Upon leaving a lady with a walker could not get past the tables, people were reluctant to move. This place isn’t wheelchair or disability walker friendly. Tables were too close together and she struggled to get past. People were a bit naff also. I felt bad for her. I won’t be back here in a hurry

Another excellent lunch at Hinderton Arms. The steak & Ale pie together with buttery mash is superb. Chefs Kat and Zoey never let us down. Lovely ambience and friendly staff (Mark & Adam) add to the overall experience.

Another great visit at The Hinderton Arms Neston🥰 Excellent meals, I had Beef Burger with all the trimmings and hubby had Lamb Shank Cottage Pie - hats off to chefs Alex and Zoey. Service was exceptional by Mark and Dan 😃 Really enjoyed seeing a group celebrating someone's birthday when Mark brought out a jazzed up pudding for the gentleman whose birthday it was. Atmosphere was very festive with the strings of lights. Well worth a visit ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I had sausages & mash. Was very tasty , tried the mulled wine too, not the best I've tasted. Had bakewell tart for pudding, all was very tasty. Service was good, as not many people in. When it came to pay, we went to the till, my friend has a Army discount card, which was declined, the person kept saying it didn't work anymore as he used to have a button on the till. And refused to accept the code. We have used it before in your pub, with no problem, we also used it on other restaurants too and it worked just fine. You need to rectify this at your tills. The card is given to be used . Kindly sort your till out.

We have visited a here a few times and it’s always been such a great experience. We absolutely love it here. The staff are always amazing especially on Sunday 17th at 5pm all staff was so kind and thoughtful, couldn’t thank them enough for all the effort they put into looking after us. Food was amazing and so was the festive cocktails. We will definitely be back.

Visited for lunch and had a warm welcome from Dan when ordering drinks. We sat in the bar area which is extremely cozy with the fires lit. We had the chicken strips to start which where nice and crispy. For our mains we had the cod and smothered chicken which where both very tasty! Definitely recommend coming here especially if just passing by the local area

Went for Sunday lunch. Took sister in law and grandson. Food was not very nice. We were all dissapointed. Sunday roast was trio of meat, 1 very small piece of Turkey, Beef and pork. Beef was not pink as stated on menu, no crackling with dinner as stated on menu. No stuffing or pig in blanket as stated on menu had to ask waitress for these. Yorkshire pudding was flat and not very nice. Veg was very poor. Been 2 weeks ago and Sunday lunch was lovely and quite large was extremely dissapointed this time. We ordered a mini trifle with hot drink. Again very dissapointed, a very small dish about 2 inches across with a bit of jam in the bottom with dry sponge custard and cream on top. Certainly not my idea of a trifle. Overall very dissapointed and meal was not cheap either. Will think twice before visiting again.

We called into the hinderton Arms for Sunday lunch on our way home from a weekend with family in Anglesey Service was excellent & the Turkey roast was the nicest Sunday lunch out we've had for a long time Served piping hot excellent choice of vegetables, tender Turkey breast, crispy roast potatoes lge pigs in blankets Yorkshire pud stuffing & very flavoursome rich gravy Well worth coming home to the Wirral for

The food was really nice serving a traditional Sunday lunch, great atmosphere a lovely cosy country pub and the staff were all friendly, the general manager especially very nice and welcoming, will be returning as soon as we can.

Just had a lovely duck pie from the autumn special menus from Chef Alex and it was lovely. Served by Harrison who was very helpful. Come here most weeks and really love the food everytime and the staff always make the experience as soon as possible. Couldn’t recommend any more 5⭐️

Had a wonderful Steak followed by Brownies and ice cream. Compliments to Chefs Alex $ Zoey and the excellent service from Mark.

Went for the first time. Early evening about 5 pm. Place quiet greeted by staff member who showed us to a seat. Very welcoming.gave is menus then left us. Food on menu was different to other places. I chose pork belly. My wife had chicken cheese pie. Both meals were cooked to perfection. I had a quarter of a cabbage on my plate which looked unusual but cooked perfectly and charred. We gave our compliments to the chef(s). You should go.

Stopped here for a sunday lunch, WOW the food was amazing so tasty and fresh. The staff were so helpful too, nothing was too much trouble. The atmosphere was friendly and cosy would highly reccommend this place. Will definately be back. thank you. x

Both my wife and I regularly visit this establishment quite frequently, and it never disappoints. The staff are amazing ,they are very welcoming and continue to be attentive throughout our meal . We visited on a Saturday evening, and the place is spotlessly clean with a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The food is lovely and well presented in traditional surroundings. The meals themselves were delicious. All 3 courses were faultless and thoroughly enjoyed. Would definitely recommend it and will return once again very soon. From the barman to the waitress and waiter and chef's, thank you for a lovely evening .

Great pub, very welcoming and friendly staff. Visited twice in the last 2 days having very tasty light bites on Saturday. On our experience we wood recommend this pub to all. Also dog friendly.

What a great night we had for my wife's birthday. The staff, Leon, Emma, Zoey and Alex were fantastic. The food was excellent and service brilliant. We've been here a quite a few times and always look forward to returning, thanks again.

Visited on a Saturday with elderly parents had to change tables due to very poor lighting no one told us that sitting in the pub area would not give us the same service, food was a poor standard as was the drinks with a bill over £85 I expected a better response to my feedback from the manager but the worst of it was that my mother in law mentioned how bad her meal was and after this was a treat I got very upset.

Was driving past and thought the place looked nice so called in for some food. So glad we did! What a lovely homely place with friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. We had the option of sitting in the restaurant or bar side, we chose the bar as it looked cozy on a slightly a rainy day. Everything on the menu sounded good and we were tempted by their roast dinners (we werent overly hungry but we'll go back for a roast, i'm sure!) Instead I went with their signature burger and my partner went for a pie. Omg! The beef on the burger wasn't your standard minced patty, it was real roasted beef brisket and the marmite sauce that went with it was just amazing! My partner was impressed with his pie, too. We ordered at the bar and were offered a tab in case we wanted a desert or more drinks later which I thought was a lovely touch. The food and drinks arrived quickly and the staff were so helpful. What a lovely find, we'll definitely be back thank you 🥰

Lovely food pub fab although staff are a bit cheesy

Probably about the third time we have visited last night 08/08/24. Asked if we could eat in the bar area which was fine but we were not told it was bar service on that side even when staff brought the cuttlery and napkins. As a result we were left waiting which obviously put a damper on the whole experience. If things were clearer I may not feel compelled to write such a review

This pub has become our stop off point for a meal before we get the overnight ferry from Birkenhead. Good choice of food and everyone is always friendly.

We visited on Sunday and enjoyed one of the best meals out that we have had in a long time. The staff were so friendly, courteous and helpful and the tables were spotlessly clean. The meals were beautifully presented and delicious, so tasty and seasoned to perfection. We will be back now that we have rediscovered you! Many thanks.

Eaten here several times and it's always been delicious with excellent service. This was the first time on a Sunday. Never again...40 minutes from being seated to taking our order. No, it wasn't busy. 2 of 3 meals good.

£12.76 for 2 pints!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! However, we did have a voucher for a meal deal which worked out value for money. But how do the biggest chain, greene king, justify the price of a pint??

We went for a family members birthday there was a long wait between stater and main with no reason given until we asked when meal arrived one was sent back as the pie was still frozen in the middle

Family visit for Father's Day. Nice, varied Father's Day menu available plus the usual Sunday lunches, and my younger daughter was very happy with the kid's menu options. Thanks to waiter Kian who waited patiently as some of us (me) struggled to choose, and Chef Cal. The food was lovely. They were happy to serve sauces etc on the side for those of us on a diet (also me), which is a plus. We had a slight wait for the main courses, but not too long and it was obviously very busy due to the occasion. We weren't in any hurry so it wasn't a problem. MY DAD WANTS TO KNOW IF HE CAN BRING A VASE NEXT TIME FOR HIS SALTED CARAMEL SUNDAE DESSERT ?? because when it's that nice, clearly a regular sized Sundae glass is not big enough. Not our first visit and we'll definitely be back again (with the vase).
