Really disappointed. I've heard such great things but did not live up to expectations. Good was warm(ish) and portion size was not great. I had 2 small pieces of chicken and one small piece of lamb in the Chefs special.

There was so much choice of different Indian takeaways online in Plymouth. We saw the reviews of this place were mostly positive and went for this one. I eat a lot of Indian takeaways and was very impressed. Tried a variety of dishes, 4 different mains, 2 sides and bread/rice. Everything was flawless in every way! Thank you :)

Over cooked but deserves a chance again Ive been brought up with going out to eat at Indian restaurants since my childhood. I can’t say this is within my top 10 but certainly isn’t one of the forgotten ones. Where to start… the drink of Coke was Flat. That pretty much sums the experience up. I ordered a Tandoori mix grill, which on the menu states it is cooked in a clay oven. I don’t think it was, it was heavily spiced and over cooked. The chicken was okay but dry and the lamb tasteless imagine it has been frozen. The minced shami kebab was dry too. Felt like I was sitting in a pub looking around at the decoration. But, enough with the negative the prawns were tasty and cooked just right. I ordered and additional side of the masala sauce and actually is one of the best sauce I’ve ever had. The keema Naan was also good. The service was polite and quick and good all round. I would come back, but stay clear of there dry dishes as there sauce seems to just hit the spot for me.

Himalayan Spice is a restaurant that you do not want to miss out on. The staff were very welcoming as soon as we arrived and catered to us very well after we were seated. The wait time on our food was very quick and efficient. The dish my brother had was the chicken madras and I had the Himalayan madras fish curry which was very rich and flavourful with a perfect amount of spice. I would also recommend the Garlic naan bread with a curry.

Nice ambience but awful food and service First of all their curries were much too bland and tasteless also too sweet; no flavours. I heard next table say the the same thing. Next we waited more than an hour for dinner i thought they almost forget us and had to check- when it finally came out my friends order was wrong and the waiter told us it was her mistake depsite hearing her telling the waiter loud and clear LAMB ; not prawns. Unf my friend was too shy and hungry by then too change it and didnt want to wait another hour for food. Later when she asked for abit chili they brought over some extremely HOT chili sauce (no warning) which send her in to hives. She had trouble breathing usually her tolerance for spicy food is very HIGH but this was just ridicolous. I also tried one drop and almost choked. Felt like they were trying to kill us. Very dissapointing and unpleasant experince. Never again. I wish we would’ve just stayed at home and not goneout. Awful.

The food is not upto the mark. The waiter was rude and did not answer the questions regarding the food properly. The food was not justifiable for the amount being paid. Moreover, the waitress was not hospitile and literally told us to make it quick and in one go because it was very busy and she can not be bothered to travel upstairs by leaving the downstairs customers. Which i don't understand is how our mistake and why were we rushed.

I unfortunately had a very disappointing experience at Himalayan Spice. The restaurant seemed to be very busy with a little staff which might be the reason which was making them very snappy at the customers. There was a lot of miscommunication from the staff which made us pay more price than expected. The food quantity was very poor as compared to the price. We ordered a simple coke which was not even frizzy. I wouldn't wish not to recommend anyone to visit here hence would like to request the restaurant to look into following things in the future.

I recently had an extremely disappointing experience at this restaurant. From the moment we were seated, the service was appalling. She was Our waiteress was incredibly rude and rushed us through our orders, making the entire meal feel hurried and unpleasant. One major issue was with the drinks. I ordered a Coke from the menu, which was listed at £2.95. However, without any clarification or choice, me and my friend were served a pint glass which costed us £9. This was not what I expected, and it felt like a blatant upsell tactic. When I asked about it, she was dismissive and unhelpful. Additionally, the portion sizes were ridiculously small. The amount of food served was insufficient even for one person, let alone anyone with a normal appetite. For the price we paid, this was unacceptable. Overall, the rude service, lack of communication, and inadequate portion sizes made this a very negative dining experience. I will not be returning and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

A Taste of Nepal in a Charming Setting Our evening at The Himalayan Spice in Plymouth was a delightful culinary adventure from start to finish. Upon entering, we were greeted by a modern reception and a well-stocked bar, setting the stage for a memorable dining experience. Food: ★★★★★ The meal commenced with tantalizing starters of Onion Bhaji and Garlic Mushroom served on Roti, setting the tone for what was to come. The traditional Nepalese main courses, including Gurkhaki Lamb Shank and Murgha Moghlai, were flavorful and expertly prepared by chefs Kishor and Krishna. The side dish of Sag Paneer and freshly baked Nan and Paratha complemented the mains perfectly. Despite our full stomachs, we couldn't resist sampling some Nepalese beer, rounding off the meal beautifully. Service: ★★★★★ The gentle and friendly waiting staff provided impeccable service throughout our visit, ensuring our needs were met with warmth and professionalism. Ambiance: ★★★★☆ The downstairs dining area exuded a cozy charm, with rustic interiors reminiscent of traditional English coastal trading styles. While the space was intimate, we learned that a larger dining area is upstairs, offering more seating options. Location: ★★★★★ Nestled next to the famous and historic Elizabethan house, the restaurant's location adds to its allure, providing a glimpse into Plymouth's rich heritage. Overall Impression: ★★★★★ Our experience at The Himalayan Spice was nothing short of exceptional. Every aspect of our visit surpassed expectations, from the delectable Nepalese cuisine to the welcoming ambiance and attentive service. We felt thoroughly satisfied and eager to return for another culinary journey through Nepal.

Absolutely amazing food. I had the Chicken Jalfrezzi (with a side of Buttered Naan and Chapati) which on their spice rating is a 3/4. Commonly when I see this I expect a dish that is too spicy to the point that you can't enjoy any of the other flavours in the dish. Instead I was given a perfectly spiced dish. The chilli in the curry tingles your mouth while a myriad of other perfectly woven aromatics stimulate your taste buds complemented perfectly by the sweetness of the caramelised onions. A perfect symphony of flavour i've not experienced in a while. God bless this establishment and I wish them great success.

Review for veggies- First of all, this is so far the best Indian food I’ve had since moving to Plymouth last year. Everything we had was incredibly tasty and the prices are reasonable too. The food came out quickly and it was quite busy, especially for a Wednesday evening which is a good sign! The reason why I’ve not rated it 5* is because I felt like there could’ve been some more interesting veggie main meals, like offering paneer instead of meat for their Himalayan specials. This is just an issue I’ve generally found in this part of the country and maybe there’s just not the same market down here for veggie food. But overall, the food was really good and we won’t go anywhere else for a curry after eating here. Looking forward to coming back!

Tiny tucked away curry house that is actually Nepalese based Himalayan food, and it was delicious. We had the Nepalese chicken curry which was hot and sour and a bit like sticky chicken, really good. This with a mixture of traditional Dahl, saag paneer (spinach and Indian cheese in a tomato cream sauce) with aloo gobi (curried potato and cauliflower) and pilau rice all as side dishes was great, as we could taste lots of dishes without too much food. The service was friendly and attentive but not in your face. However we were sat upstairs where there was only one other person, as downstairs was full, so there was no buzz of other diners. (We had walked off the street with no reservation though.) This made the Christmas music being played quite loud, and was on a loop of only 5 or 6 songs! However definitely recommend a curry there, it would be 4.5 stars if I could give it!

One of the stranger restaurant experiences of my life. I am Indian and went for dinner with my white partner. When the first curry (mild) arrived, we were bewildered as it tasted extremely sweet, as in at least 3-4 tablespoons of sugar. We picked out the meat but couldn’t eat the curry. Not wanting to be rude, we thought we would order a ‘safe’ tomato-based curry. This one too was wildly sweet. At this point we gave up and asked for the bill. The server noticed we hadn’t eaten much and asked why, I explained to him that the food was very sweet. He said to me that he knew this and they intentionally sweeten the dishes far beyond anything normal in Southeast Asia or anywhere else I’ve ever been in the UK in the years I’ve lived here, to please the local British palate. My partner has been eating food from the subcontinent for years and called these curries ‘inedible’. The server went on to apologise for becoming ‘confused’ around my race, saying that if he thought I was brown they would not have over-sweetened the dishes. He then proceeded to tell me that I look like a ‘Britisher or Chinese’, making unnecessary gestures around his eyes to explain this. He added that because my partner is white and ordered mild curries he assumed they should add copious sugar which he said he knew made the dishes poor quality. At this point I had to clarify that they adjust the flavour of the dishes according to the perceived race of the clientele, which the server confirmed. Incredulous, I spoke to the restaurant manager who repeated this all to me again. They both told me plainly that they knew the food was not nice and would not like it themselves, but did not offer any discount including my NHS discount as it was not a weeknight. Needless to say, we will not be back.

What a delightful hidden Gem this Indian restaurant is, you should book as it's clearly very popular. Popadoms with the usual accessories to start, they have a good choice of Beers and Wines also. The menu is Choc-A-Block full of fantastic meals! the waiters are...

Gorgeous meal , both my husband and I throughly enjoyed our meal. My vegetarian Dhansak was exquisite and my husband chose the vegetarian Ceylon curry which he too would highly recommend. Only criticism is that the lighting was too dim as we had trouble reading...

This was disappointing as we’ve been meaning to go to this little place in the back streets of Plymouth for a year or two. Atmosphere is great albeit quiet and intimate and service was good. Sadly the main courses were just a non event. The...

Butterflied prawns were overcooked but the Himalayan salmon and garlic naan were delightful. The naan was fluffy, garlicky and best I've had for a long, long time. Hubby had lamb Katmandu which was flavoursome and just the right heat. Oldest building in Plymouth I believe....

Probably the worst Indian I have had in Plymouth. It was the first time I have tried this place and will be the last. Ordered “Zak’s special hot & spicey”, the only thing “special” about this dish was the amount of onions used 3/4 of the dish and how little chicken there was, to top of this special dish you also get the sauce spread all over the carrier bag! Also ordered the chicken tikka which was dry and bland. Another Indian not too far away will continue to be my go to.

This is no longer roopanar it is now Yousufs and the food is ok when it finally arrives we waited over 2 hours it finally arrived with a mumbled apology from the driver, they need to learn customer relations a phone call to explain they had a shortage staff would be courtesy we won’t order from them again I shouldn’t have to chase them up several times
