Himalaya Restaurant in Glasgow City

Phoned for a takeaway, waited an hour and a half and had to chase this up to be told that they are a driver short and should be on their way. When order finally arrived it was the wrong order. I phoned to let them know to be told they are really busy ( not my issue). I asked when my correct order would arrive to be told "I dont know" honestly what a way to run a business 😡 I then asked for my money back and had to chase this up ( this is now over 2 hours). Ended up having to personally get in my car and take the food back personally. Avoid at all costs, absolute shambles 😡😡

Not worth the money. Paid £20 for a mixed grill and this what I got. Unbelievable. Won't be ordering again

First time I have eaten here since the change of name. Food, service, and atmosphere all great and chef even made a meal not on the menu for my visitors. Thoroughly good night out.

We decided to give Rail Gaddi (formerly the Himalaya) a go for my birthday and first impressions weren't that great. The service wasn't overly friendly and got the impression that the woman serving us struggled to understand our orders and going by how short the head waiter/manager was with her, I don't believe it was the first time – but I've also read on other reviews that he is rude to his staff and customers anyway. Starters came, a mix of veg and fish pakora and poppadoms and spiced onions. This was all excellent. However I had ordered my King Prawn Tandoori Sizzler with a madras-strength Bhuna sauce, but what came with it was a madras strength regular curry sauce. I decided to live with that, but the prawns themselves weren't the best. They had an almost burnt taste, as though they had spent too much time in the tandoor, and the prawns themselves were brick hard – not the usual tender, succulent king prawns we're used to at other Indian restaurants. The veg on the skillet itself was acceptable, and the nan bread was very good. The after meal coffee was decent and the beer was cheap – 3.90 for a Tennent's lager in a restaurant is incredibly good value. So, overall, 3 stars – by no means the best but definitely not the worst Indian I've been to. However, I don't think I'll be back as between getting the curry sauce order wrong and overcooking the prawns, it doesn't justify another visit.

Ordered a home delivery, chicken Ceylonese korma with pilau rice and a plain nanbread. Arrived Fresh and piping hot. Delicious!. Delivery driver was polite and pleasant.

Driver had our address but put wrong address into sat nav. Phoned us several times as lost but hadnt actually put the correct address in. Ended up standing out on the street waiting to flag them down when they finally used correct address. Just as well the food was spicy or it would have been cold

Incorrect order. wrong pakora (mixed instead of mushroom and only one spiced onion instead of two.

Ordered at 17:51 - arrived 19:12- Driver claimed to have been at the door twice - door is in my living room and we have a doorbell camera. He was never at the door. Was just about to call the restaurant and they called me. Order was supplied with the wrong juice and food was cold. Disappointed on this occasion as we are regulars.

Very disappointed took staff a couple of minutes to acknowledge us which is very unusual not the same staff served starters nobody ask if everything was OK no tell y or music on there was only 3 tables in sat and waited 15 mins after starter was finished before some one came and took away then another 10 mins our chapatis came out then other 10 min before mains came out there was nobody on floor girl seemed to spend most of her time in kitchen finished mains and nobody had cam ex to ask if everything was OK was just about to go to bar as my drink was finished when the girl returned

Far and away the best Indian food we have ever eaten… The best in Glasgow in our opinion! Chicken pakora is so fresh and melts in your mouth! Chicken Ceylonese Korma… outstanding!!!!! Again huge portion sizes and all piping hot… Nan bread a delight and again so fresh and tasty… Over and above the food the best thing about this restaurant is the staff and the service who always greet you with a smile and so helpful and welcoming… restaurant decor is beautiful and a lovely welcoming atmosphere. Look forward to our return visit. Highly recommend and will not disappoint.

We went on a Monday evening and wasn't very busy. Everything was lovely. Didn't have fish pakora available, but I will be back to try it.

Generally this place never fails, and while most of the food was to its usual standard my wife’s butter chicken wasn’t up to much - a lot less chicken than usual, a horribly split sauce and a very greasy taste. Disappointing but hopefully a one off

Without fail the food is amazing every single time, would never go anywhere else for a butter chicken or South Indian.

Recently been redecorated and place looks great. Nice feel about restaurant and staff were very attentive. Chicken pakora was excellent! Chicken Tikka Bhoona and naan was lovely. Portion size was also spot on. The new bar menu looks good too, with the loaded naan on the list for my next visit!

Hot food was left on doorstep without knocking on door, so I didn't know it was there. It had gone colder than it should have been. I left delivery instructions, but deliverer totally ignored them. Too lazy to knock door and wait. I will tell shop.

Nowhere near what it used to be. Chasni was rotten and the pakora was dry. Wont be going back. Edit: reply to owner… You have mistaken me for someone else, i have no idea about canopys and my family do not go near your restaurant. To reply to my review a year after i posted it and confusing me with someone else and coming across as passive aggressive is Embarassing. Not only is your food rotten but you are clearly idiots as well!

Some of the Chicken Pakora was a little undercooked, and the chicken in my curry was overcooked and dry/very tough.

Outstanding hospitality paired with a delightful ambiance and delectable cuisine! Our experience was thoroughly enjoyable. The graciousness with which they welcomed and attended to their guests left a lasting impression. If authentic desi flavors are what you seek, this establishment comes highly recommended!

Food is excellent and delivery has always been either early or on time.

Had been there for a birthday party. The food was good and so was the service. Well, considering they allowed a birthday party they should've given us some priority with music selection and having other activities. They were too stringent. I think it could've been better managed. Anyway, overall it was a pleasant experience. Haven't tried the dine in lunch or dinner yet.

Great food. Ordered enough for two days as I like this restaurant very much and food is always well prepared.

Am so disappointed. Have used this restaurant many times and this meal was shocking. I always order the Ceylonese Korma because it is the mildest and it is lovely. I am. I am not sure happened here, did wonder because very different colour and was so hot nearly blew my head off! Did not even eat a quarter of it and binned it. Also the garlic naan was very very oily as well. So disappointed complete waste of money and in the bin. Have not attempted the spiced onions since worried will be same.

Although the delivery was in the time stated, it was about 40 minutes after it was sent for delivery, so seems like there were either a number of deliveries or some further away were prioritised. I only live a maximum of 6 minutes from the restaurant

Amazing food. Only seem to be able to order from here once every few weeks from my location though. Haven’t been able to catch them in a while that’s my only complaint lacking consistency.

First time ever I've got a complaint. To the fryer "PLEASE don't turn down the temperature of the oil" My Keema samosa were dripping in oil because it wasn't hot enough 😷. I know gas is costly, but your reputation is worth more! Other than that,an excellent meal.

Payed £10 for a curry that never even came with rice and the pakora was freezing by the time it arrived.

Really top quality restaurant. I Had an issue with an item I had placed for delivery but called the restaurant and they were very accommodating, explained other options to me and changed my order. The food came very quick, hot and fresh. We had the Chasni and South Indian garlic with rice and nan. Very delicious, chicken tikka was 10/10 quality and the nan out of this world! Thanks so much can’t wait to order again soon.

Have not used here for about 4 years won’t be. Leaving it as long again food was piping hot and delicious had a lamb bhoona and chicken chashni with pilau rice and garlic and cheese nan bread 10/10 you won’t be disappointed

We really enjoyed the food from the Himalaya. The food was delivered within the estimated time by a lovely, cheery delivery driver. We got two different main dishes (SIGCC & Chicken Handi), large chicken pakora, garlic naan bread, pilau rice. The food was still warm, delicious and the portion sizes very good. Great value for money.

The chilli cheese nan is a thing of beauty. Never had anything close to it in terms of nan bread. The traditional curry is also amazing. Can't fault it and orders are always consistently on point every time.

Had a lovely meal here at the weekend. Newly refurbished and nice and cozy atmosphere. Very reasonably priced. To start with I had the fish pakora then garlic chilli 🌶 chicken tikka with rice and nan. My husband had vegetable pakora thenchicken tikka buriani with curry sauce 😋 delicious and just the right amount. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and evening.

We had a family meal here where everyone had something different. Every meal was excellent, along with the service. The surroundings were pleasant with a nice atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.

Arrived and met with great staff. The decor is lovely and serving in a traditional Indian Thali really made me feel like I was there (visited India 2014 so it was nice). If you are thinking of ordering a take away, just get some clothes on and go sit in, you will not be disappointed! Food was very well spiced, served and priced! Looking forward to my next visit!
