Hillycroft Fisheries in Leeds

Very busy, I had to wait nearly 40 mins before being served. There were only 4 in people in front of me. Was it worth the wait. Yes very nice fish n chips curry sauce.

First time going to this chippy recommended by a family member was not disappointed one bit . It was fantastic highly recommend .

Special fish is a regular size fish, regular portion of chips fills a small bowl so poor price for what you get, Scraps chucked on top of them so it doesn't look as empty. Battered sausage wasn't even battered just created a flap on one side of the meat. Poor quality for the price you pay. Wouldn't go back.

Lovely food here however on this particular visit, the cashier, Becky was extremely rude! Yes it is Friday, but that is no excuse for having nothing in.. when we asked what food they did have available her response was ‘well it’s Friday so it’s understandable’ this response is simply not good enough! Extremely disappointed since the service and food is usually exceptional, Becky has let the team down this evening!

Gone downhill over last couple of years. Confusing ordering procedure, like being in a Mcdonalds. Chippys shouldn't be like that....Nelson up road far better customer service. Prices scandalous too.

Not sure what's happened with the fish here, last two weeks have been very poor. Last week fish very grey and smelt, this week very greasy batter usually lovely dry and crispy. Lots of grease left in the tray never seen that before. Also mushy peas very thin and watery this week. Will give one more try next week, hopefully it will be back to normal.

Tasty but very very over priced Just been in again and pretty much everything on show was ordered, try covering what isn't available!, so ended up with 2 trays of chips, still over priced for a tiny portion, a few were still raw, more than half of both portions had black eyes in them ! So ended up with about 10 chips each, back to the miners fish shop I think

Poor customer service but good fish. One meal was missed from the order and had to go pick up. Not much of an apology for their error!

Foods ok. Pretty average. The price is the shocker for the size of the portions. The kids goldfish are bigger and a tenner for nemo chips and curry sauce isn’t ideal when it wouldn’t fill a 4yr old.

came here as we was craving some chips, and having never eaten here before, i can say this place is a lovely hidden treasure. the customer service was incredible, the food was hot, fresh & delicious. the place was outstandingly clean, and the food was good for value also. we will definitely be returning :3

Our must go to place at least once a week. The food is great, staff are super. Can't fault it.

The chap, possibly the owner, seemed grumpy, somewhat rude and visibly not welcoming to customers this evening - was about 7.35, he had clearly had enough.

Fantastic fish and chips and friendly service, has been for years, it recently changed hands and its still great.

Well worth the short drive to collect very substantial meals. Takeaway only. Online orders taken. On spec visits might mean a bit of a wait. On street parking only. Small step up at entrance. Takes card and cash.

Excellent food but gets very busy

I live 1.5miles away from this fish shop, I pass a fish shop to get to Hillycroft but yet I still go here for haddock and chips, cake butties (yes sometimes I have 2, oops!) and sausage and chips. I've had the gravy and mushy peas. I used to have onion rings too but sadly they are no long available unless I'm mistaken. Everything I've ever eaten from here has been delicious. They are the best fish and chips in Yorkshire! A***. Special thanks for all the staff for ploughing on to keep the fish shop going through covid times. (crazy lady on the tandem) xXx

Incredibly slow service , meal size is really small for a top end price . Food doesn’t have much taste . However I can offer 2 star as gravy was decent.

Would argue this is the best fish and chip shop in the area - food always of the highest quality, extremely fresh and piping hot! Can't ask for better!

They seem to have resolved their service issues and the last time I went I was served promptly with fresh warm delicious food.

Advertise on Just Eat but never take orders!

Turned up at 7.30 and the miserable guy cooking wouldn't put me a sausage in to cook. Terrible service to say they are open for another 30 mins. I can honestly say every time I have been here the service is shocking

Freshly cooked chips, mushy peas and scraps for a decent price. They do a fair variety of food including fish, potato scollps, sausage, nuggets, chicken bites and halloumi sticks. Meal deals are available.

Well if takeaway from morley center can deliver to Drighlington why can't you it says to far load of rubbish service wont order from here againe absolutely garbage

The best fish and chips going. Never alters. Friendly staff. Well organized. I travel 6miles each way to take back home. None better.

Nice fish and chips, just too expensive

I love this place. They once gave me free chips and I would definitely reccomended eating here. They have a wide selection of foods which are very tasty! Personally, I reccomend the classic Fish and Chips as it is my favourite meal.

Always good, always busy - get the wrong time & parking can be tricky

Been going to hillycroft for years but the portions are getting smaller every time we go and last night will be the final time we eat from here. All the meals were really small but to ask for a portion of chips with a couple of scraps and then find that there was only 12 chips and had to dig through the scraps to find a chip was outrageous. It’s a real shame as the majority of the time they are nice.

You'll be hard pushed to find a better Fish & Chip shop in Morley.

First thing that hit me here, was the cost of fish n chips, above average I'd say. 2nd thing was the quantity, smaller than average at a guess. 3rd thing, was the taste.....absolutely gorgeous fish n chips, and we'll worth paying a little more for. Will deffo be visiting Hillycroft again, well worth the 15 minute drive. Service by friendly staff, and very efficient. One very happy customer.

Have been a regular tend to still order for a pensioner but prices gone up which I don’t mind but when the portions get smaller as well it’s maybe time to stop

A bit overated. Depends who is frying. Prices are going up and portion size is coming down. The best chippy in Morley by far is Miners chippy. Check their opening times and if you don't mind queuing go there. The portion sizes are bigger/ cheaper and far better all round.

Great fish and chips. Really crispy and no soggy batter or batter that gets onto the paper. Chips fantastic. One of best f&c I've had. Portions good. Though note the meal deal is with a smaller fish and chips so you need ask for that specifically if you want it. I got it wrong but the large one was just right! 😄 Great food and service

Been coming here years but recently their fish is insultingly small, almost like a normal fish has been cut in half to get 2 portions out of a standard, its barely thicker than my finger- Initially i thought they gave me a battered sausage! Just look at prior reviews it’s clear their fishes were a lot bigger only a few months ago, and when their prices are the top end when it comes to a fish and chip shop its just pure greed.

Quality food just a bit over priced.. £2.50 for a sausage is extortionate, well over £5 for chips, splash of gravy and sausage ... 4* is for the quality not the price

Good quality, didn't realise how much fish and chips had gone up. Fair play, they do offer a discount occasionally on orders online.

Rather different to how I remember this place. Gone Hi Tech with telephone and online ordering Click & Collect, Uber Eats, Deliveroo and all that nonsense. Still very good Fish & Chips though!! 😋

Fabulous fish and chips, big portions nice chunky chips not at all greasy. We also get our fish lightly battered and always cooked to perfection.

The fish and Chips are really great, as are the peas. In fact up there with some of the best I’ve had. Crispy batter l, wholesome fish and chips cooked the way they should be. The proper use of beef dripping to fry is always a gold standard for me. My only criticism is the staff, I think a reminder of what good customer service looks like wouldn’t go a miss. Shouting at customers on where to stand, absolute lack of a smile and zero conversation needs improvement, i understand you are busy but common courtesy is not hard to provide. Thankfully the food makes up for the lack of customer service.

Tiny portions, chips 2.65 x 4 all only half full.Fish and fish cakes ok. Update: they gave us the wrong scoops of chips and made it right. Now content.

Not too bad, a bit expensive for the size of fish but executed well and the staff are nice.

Thought I'd try something a little different, so went for a portion of chicken bites (8 pieces) with my chips. If you're in two minds, go for them, they're absolutely delicious and better than anything you'll find at the the likes of KFC.

My fish cake was awful made with minced fish not fish pieces initially i opened it up to eat the fish and thought that it was from a fish that had been infested with worms but then realised it was minced fish a grey colour unappetizing smell did not seem to be very fresh batter. Batter bits were ok staff were nice friendly but had to repeat request for bits not impressed not a patch on market fisheries

Modern take on a fish shop realy clean its amazing plenty friendly staff and loads special offers on the food I love this place thats why I drive nearly 4miles to get it

Main issue is if you go into the chip shop the traditional way you will be waiting half an hour to get served - even in a queue of about 5 people - because of ridiculous priorities given to click and collect and Uber Eats. It's ruined this one great fish and chip shop. Don't think I'll be coming here again.

Food is good, it just seems to be fry on demand, so quite a long time waiting for orders.

Just deleted the app. Maybe it’s my age but I find it’s too easy to put the wrong time so ended up paying twice when I re ordered for what I already consider to be an expensive meal.

We often go there with friends, the staff is nice and friendly, the food is very tasty and always fresh!

Normally love fish and chips from Hillycroft , unfortunately I was disappointed today after doing a click and collect order, collected at the time requested and got home to just warm food!!!

Had a while to wait whilst they got caught up with their online orders but served quickly enough once it was my turn, red hot fish and chips, even stayed nice and hot while I had to make 10 min walk home

Hillycroft fisheries is a clean fish shop, very clean. The price you pay is high compared to others but this is reflected in their quality. Sometimes can be too greasy but that's hit and miss. Decent 👍

Fish and chips is actually ok but staff need to work on their poor customer service skills. The man frying the fish needs to learn how to crack a smile, i appreciate you dont want to be cooking fish on a friday night but dont take it out on us. & could you have some signs where to que because nobody actually knows when they enter shop.

Over priced small fish, and the chips were hard but the peas were lovely.

So, we’ve been to this fish and chips shop several times since our son moved to Morley. It was always ok if not spectacular. But this week, what a change. I don’t know who decided to update the fish and chippy experience, but it has paid off big style. Super, crispy battered tasty fish surely large enough for anyone with an Everest of just right chips and virtually home cooked mushy peas, not just baby food consistency but with texture and flavour. Well done.

I found the prices had increased considerably since the last time I visited this shop. Although saying that, the food was hot and very tasty.
