How this hotel has the ratings it has is beyond my understanding. Arrived to book in and met with a dark, damp smelling entrance. One light on in the bar area where a very unhappy employee was clearing up from previous staff (allegedly the managers!) shift. Advised that none of the hotel rooms had been prepared and she needed time to do so. We were unable to get food at the hotel as there was nothing. Info on site says meals available. Room was freezing cold, blinds failed, windows drafty, had to ask for towels for shower. Excuse for a bed was one of the most uncomfortable I've ever experienced. The wooden frame squeaked even when moving the quilt!! We had booked for 3 nights which we cut short. Breakfast was an absolute joke, make your own tea and toast with out of date milk, and a jar of cheap jam. An experience not for repeating!

Booked in to the hotel . Was disgusted by the room we had there was blood and dribble marks on the pillow , wee and blood stains on mattress protector. Mattress itself was rock hard and falling apart with bed bugs . Mould around the windows. Which she kept saying it wasn’t mould , The Bathroom the shower seals all falling apart . Paint work is shocking. Owner was rude when trying to talk about the problems asked for a refund . She was very rude and said to talk to booking.com so contacted them and they said they wouldn’t charge there fee so we should get a full refund but then she walked passed us leaving her staff to deal with the problem . So ended up getting half our money back and reason why was so called because we used the room we got to the hotel and with in 10 minutes we complained and was trying to sort the problem out for 2 hours going back and forth . I wouldn’t recommended this hotel and feel sorry for her staff as they were lovely and even said themself they wouldn’t pay the money for the room let alone sleep in there . We travelled 500 miles which took us 10 hours . To get this service just such a shame.

Hotel booking cancelled 3 days before arrival. Was notified via booking.com message, not even a courtesy call which in my opinion is extremely shady. This is the 2nd time we have attempted to book this hotel as location suited us perfectly for our needs, and this is the 2nd time they have cancelled. My advice would be even don’t bother. We are now left with no accommodation.

For så vidt hyggelig betjening, men begrenset tid betjening er tilgjengelig. Vi ankom kl 14, ikke mulig å nå noen på telefon eller i resepsjon. Resepsjon var åpen fra 16-20 i følge lapp på utsiden. Dårlig rengjøring. Spindelvev i gang og på rom. Bærer preg av dårlig/lite bruk av hotell. Mulig det er nedgangstid som gjør dette. *Elendig frokost, loff, smør og syltetøy. *Knirkete seng. *Ikke mulig å dusje på mitt rom, verken meg eller kollegaen min fant bryter for vann. Ingen å spør på hotellet om hjelp heller… *Reklame om daglig mat og bar, vi kom til baren kl 2030 da var den stengt.

Went for a High Tea on Sunday 30th April with friends, well that was a big mistake. Originally booked another place for a meal however we noticed there was a cancellation so we thought we would give it a try. We were seated in the bar area, we were told when we booked, however it was freezing sitting in there. We ordered 2 x chicken Goujons, well on the plate was 3 goujons and undercooked chips, no salad, it looked so sparse on the plate, also we ordered a Steak Pie which was full of Gravy and the Veg was from the freezer, another meal was chili con carne, lumpy mince so obviously had been either frozen or reheated. Cakes not home baked as advertised, 4 truffles that were so hard you could not bite into these even with a knife these did not cut, 4 chocolate sponge cakes with a swirl of buttercream, and we also got a portion of Eton Mess which was not bad tbh, but was just crushed merengue and cream not any fruit. If you class this a high tea!!! We spoke to the lady that was serving us, we explained that the meals were not up to much and the veg was from a freezer and the cakes were rock hard, she apologised and said that they use cheaper veg etc as its a cheaper menu. Server was totally disorganized but saying they were so busy - you just don't say that to customers Seriously! Also she reminded us that she did not charge extra for the top ups of Tea & Coffee, again seriously ! I did message them on Facebook messenger they read the comments but never even replied, says a lot for there customers. Do not waste your money going there, as you can see more reviews have said the same poor food. Better going to Montrose at the George Hotel where the portions are decent and a better atmosphere. AVOID

The residents of this village don't use this hotel as it's not what it used to be. The staff are rude if you complain and menu needs to be simplified the chef to prepare and understand Afternoon tea are not very appetizing,just an excuse for lady with ginger hair to swan about doing little to encourage staff

Really friendly, a good choice of food on the menu and the prices were fantastic! Quiet and toilet facilities too

Because I went to throw restaurant and the waiter with orange hair and glasses was rude and messed up my order and there wasn’t any sauce on my burger

Having previously eaten here before , without issue. we Arrived here just after 6pm, advised on the phone that the kitchen shuts at 7pm, no issue. Ordered the chicken goujons and the burger with haggis and “peppercorn” sauce, the chicken was uncoated and clearly just deep fried in oil which obviously required changing, the haggis burger however was inedible, the so called peppercorn sauce was over powered with ground pepper, to the point the my partner could not eat it.. told the server behind the bar who offered no apology, only to let the “chef” know, upon settling the bill the server thought it acceptable to offer to deduct 1/2 the price of the returned meal and took offence when she was told that it was inedible and I would not be paying for it.. begrudgingly the bill was amended.. your so called chef needs educating and replacing, your servers require training on how to deal with complaints and educating on food regulations and consumer rights. Would not recommend this place and definitely will not be back.

A wonderful country hotel, was so nice to discover this hidden gem. I was travelling alone for the weekend and I couldn't have been made to feel more welcome, all staff were so friendly, nice little bar with reasonably priced food and drinks, food was excellent, locals were so nice and invited me to join them at their table as I was on my own, hotel room was basic but had everything I needed and was spotlessly clean. I would definitely return if I was in the area, I might even bring my husband next time! 😜

Not the place to go for xmas lunch if you are vegetarian! Vegetable stirfry was a plate of rice with a few vegetables through it. Very unimaginative and disappointing.

I was also in the party of 20 that had organised a family get together and meal at your hotel. We all pre ordered our meal to help staff and chef in getting our meal to us without hanging around too long. When main courses came out they looked good, but then ones who ordered chicken goujons were having to wait a good 10-12 mins longer(not the 5 you mentioned) the chips were also under cooked, very pale in colour and not very hot, by the time my daughter and grandson got there's the other end of table had finished. We were polite and said nothing, as we were told your fryer broke down, until that is you mentioned a meal had not been paid for, a meal that we knew was paid as we checked everything, your staff was also asked if everything was OK. It turns out the fault was yours, mabe next time you should check thoroughly before messaging us. Needless to say we won't be back!!

We organised a family meal here due to word of mouth but totally regretting it now. I must point out that the party was a group of 20 and for them to accept the booking would suggest that they could cope with it. How wrong, main meals came out staggered to the point where some were finished before others were served. 7 meals were delayed because a fryer broke, the meals then arrived half cooked and cold. Unfortunately complaining is not in everyone’s dna and we left having settled the bill. Bad meal over or so we thought, my niece(who did the booking) was contacted by the hotel the next day to say that one meal was not paid for, is this not the hotels fault once the diners leave? Turns out that the hotel said it was an error on their behalf! I do however, imagine that a smaller party could be accommodated but because of the embarrassing message saying one meal was not paid for, we will not be returning.

The hotel is clean and comfortable and the food passable but the main problem is that we were woken up on two mornings at 3 am, 4 am and 5am by guests who we think were going goose shooting. They slammed doors so hard you could feel the shock in bed and then they had load conversations outside our bedroom doors.

We have been using the Hillside Hotel restaurant for over 30 years, dining both in & latterly for take away. The food has always been to an exceptional standard tonights meal has, to say the least, upset that record. The order, a takeaway, was incorrect to start with. One of the meals was specifically ordered with no side dishes due to allergies yet on returning home it was found to be smothered in coleslaw. Although this was soon put right by the helpful staff it still required another trip in the car. The food was nowhere near the high standard that we've come to expect. The steak pie did not appear to be home-made & tasted as if it was a reheated frozen pie. The meat previously has been beautiful, melting in the mouth. This time, however, it was tough & chewy. Also suddenly large chunks of mushroom have appeared in it. 
Gone were the home cut chips or if they were home cut they did an amazing job of imitating frozen ones & the normal variety of vegetables was replaced by some hard peas & carrots. 
As previously stated the only redeeming feature were the helpful staff. 
 Whether tonights fare was due to running low on food or cost cutting it has seriously dampened my view of what was, previously, an excellent restaurant.

We stayed @ The Hillside Hotel as a friend's party was being held only 2 mins away. We received a very warm & friendly welcome from the staff. The food in the restaurant was lovely...very tasty, good sized portions & very reasonably priced. The rooms are basic but adequate & clean. We would recommend The Hillside Hotel to anyone that was looking for an enjoyable & hospitable rural place to stay.

Highly recommend. Staff were fantastic and the food was superb. Chef and staff did an amazing job and the kids loved it. Great value for money and we’ll definitely be back! Best chicken goujons and chilli nachos I’ve had in years. Thank you!

Beautiful meal for six. Could not fault anything apart from the portions being big for me - I should have asked if they did smaller portions - but the rest of the party enjoyed ALL that they were given. It was a very pleasant evening out and I would certainly go back.

Just had a delicious steak, homemade chips and onion rings. Service was fantastic and dessert was lovely too. Can't recommend the place enough.

A friend had won a competition for table of 2 at one of the Tapas nights. The food was plentyful, nice to try lots of different tapas from prawns to Spanish omelette.......service good too, well worth a visit.

Came for a meal last night Filet steak surf n turf was brilliant, prawns were lovely and steak was extremely soft. Great service in the restaurant and bar as always. Highly recommended!!

Booked for a birthday tea. Ordered was steak pie with mash and veg. Meal was cold, meat was tough and mash was dry. My friend had the chicken goujons which looked undercooked. We did complain and the response was the chef did not cook the steak pie it had been cooked by another chef and the chicken had been cooked through and what we could see was where the chicken had been removed from the bone. Thank goodness for the pudding but you can really go wrong with sticky toffee.Really disapointed because we have previously enjoyed eating here.

My family and I visited the Hillside Hotel today for the first time and we were thoroughly impressed. We had the high tea and the quality of the food was outstanding, so reasonably priced, the surroundings lovely and the waitresses very friendly. I personally had the fish and chips which were first class and the Malteser cheesecake - hats off to the young sous chef who made these delights. We came from Aberdeen and Stonehaven and have already decided we will come back - in fact my son would like to come for his birthday meal out. I don't usually write reviews but was so impressed with our visit I just wanted to share this little gem of a place. Also has a beer garden which I've yet to try out but I'd love to. Well worth a visit.

Had a wonderful dinner .. food delish, fantastic menu and a buzzing atmosphere . Great special board .. fantastic cheesecakes , I had the cream egg one ...Staff very friendly I will most certainly be back here .. infact this is defo my new favourite place to eat

We have been to this restaurant once before our most recent trip and the food then was good but now it is AMAZING! Scallops were lovely and steak pie was so rich and flavoursome. Creme brûlée dessert was also perfect! We will definitely be back again!

Me and my boyfriend went for valentine’s day meal. We got king scallops with pea purée and crisp pancetta and black pudding balls for starter. It was a good portion and tasted amazing. Best scallops iv had and for main we had Beef wellington with home cut chips, onion rings and salad. Beef was melting in your mouth it was soft and done just right. Would 100% reccomend, always lovely staff and good prices. Very satisfied

Another fab meal...scotch egg was lovely a fab new starter on the menu..the burger with added chilli was just fab ..another lovely meal..well done and keep up the good work

Had a lovely meal tonight service very good and food was delicious piping hot and cooked to my taste so could not ask for anything better my husband had mixed grill and he said it was very good

Last minute booking at the hotel and popped down for tea early in the night. We had the dog with us so stayed in the bar. Had prawns and buffalo chicken wings to start- wow! They were amazing, chicken wings definitely had a spice about them so be warned but they were delicious. We both had the special tomahawk steak for main and it was amazing. Cooked to perfection and the pepper sauce was great too. Service was brilliant, and the locals were nice and generous too. One couple bought us a round of drinks to celebrate our recent marriage which was lovely. Such a nice place and so unexpected. If you happen to stay here- rooms are incredible as well.

Piccolo Hotel caratteristico molto comodo per visitare le spiagge attorno. in particolare quella di San Ciro. personale disponibilissimo e gentile le camere sono silenziose anche se ci passa la ferrovia accanto. unica pecca il wifi ma conto che lo sistemeranno al più presto. Forse gli hamburger migliori della zona.

Small comfortable bedroom with en suite. Tea/Coffee making facilities pretty much what you'd expect. A bit run down as far as the bedroom doors were concerned - could do with a lick of paint.

We took our eldest grandson and wife out on Sunday for a high tea ,we arrived early but it was not a problem.The menu was very good tea and toast came before the meal which was very good,you then got a a choice of sweets which everyone enjoyed.very well priced,would certainly rececomend.

The restaurant was very quiet on the Friday evening when we visited, and hence the service was good. The staff were pleasant, and the choice of food reasonable. We found the 'specials' offered the best value. The broccoli served with the main course was cooked nicely (i.e. not overcooked!), but past its best, and a bit yellowy in colour. No wine list was offered, and wine by he glass was limited in choice. So our overall experience was that the food, atmosphere, etc, was good rather than excellent.

Have been before but not for a long time and was glad we picked to go there. The service was warm & welcoming. There a great choice on the menu to cater for anyone's taste. We had burgers which were so good and with toppings not available at most other places chips are homemade which is better than the usual frozen offerings you get everywhere else. 1 of us had the steak pie it was obvious that it was homemade & great quality meat & great portion size. No one could leave hungry just sorry we had no room for desert as they looked amazing. Well done wish others would follow suit. Will definitely be visiting again.

Just had a lovely meal here. Excellent value for money. Great food and great service too. Just don’t have an afternoon cuppa with biscuits if your planning a visit here😉. Big portions and we couldn’t manage 3 courses. Will definitely be back. Thanks again

My boyfriend and I visited last night for our Valentines Meal and had booked in for the restaurants ‘Tapas Evening’. We had been to one at a different restaurant a while ago and were really disappointed with the quality so we were really pleasantly surprised with not only the amount of food we were given but how good the food really was. We were welcomed with a bread board and a jug of sangria and the plates just kept on coming. Could not recommend the tapas enough! The service was great too, the waiting staff was very attentive. Thanks for a lovely evening! :)

I stayed here for day 9 of a long trip. After spending 2 weeks in generic holiday inns I was delighted to pull up outside a cosy local hotel. The welcome was warm, the food excellent and the cheesecake phenomenal! I'll be back!

Despite its austere appearance from the outside, this couldn't be a friendlier family run hotel. All the staff were first class and we had an amazing meal all cooked to perfection, not an easy task for a large group like ours on Christmas Day with lots of other guests at the same time, hats off to all the kitchen staff. Rooms were comfortable and clean and reasonably priced. Also despite the bar being quite crowded at times, service was always quick and friendly. Thanks to all staff for helping to make our Christmas Day special.

Had an amazing experience at the Hillside Hotel, amazing staff, the bar maid Louise was amazing and very bubbly, she makes the experience very enjoyable!!Rhiannon our waitress was fabulous!she made sure everything was okay with it meals, RECOMMEND 100% will be back!!!Thank you😊

I was here last year and thought it could not get any better but it has, the décor has changed and we all loved looking at the old pictures on the tables, The staff were excellent and very friendly as for the food it was delicious, we all had homemade soup first then I went for the fillet stake and was cooked to perfection the good lady had macaroni and cheese and the kids had there chicken fillets. Would recommend the hillside hotel 100% will be back again.

When checking in, the staff were very helpful and friendly and showed to me a lovely room. We ate in the hotel every night of our stay and the food was excellent! my favourite was the black pudding stack starter! All in all a great visit, would highly recommend

Went here on a Tuesday night for a drink and a meal.We ate in the bar ,service was good ,steak pie and Hiller burger with local potatoes and veg were excellent and we ate in the bar.would recommend.

Fuimos para el té y lo recomiendo mucho. Nos ofrecieron un té o café y tostadas fue traído a nuestra mesa, deliciosos.

Menu pretty poor for lunch time not what you expect from a hotel like this one they good give you what you want if you whant to wait till they cook it will not be back soon very disappointment heard good things about it

Staying at a local B and B the hillside was recommended to me. There didn't seem a lot of choice or alternative places to eat so I wasn't expecting much. However the food I chose was excellent!!! Steak and ale pie is one of my regular choices but I have never had as much meat in a pie as at the hillside!!! Really lovely tender meat too! Vegetables were very fresh, not frozen and staff were efficient. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here. I also liked the art work on display around the restaurant which I think was for sale. Great place.

First time at this restaurant. Monday evening which was quite quiet and made it possible to talk to each other (unlike another popular Montrose restaurant where the noise makes conversation very difficult). The waitress was very pleasant and efficient. Food was brought quickly and everyone enjoyed their meal very much. We'll definitely return to this restaurant.

This is decent old fashioned pub " in a basket food "with no basket. Generous portions no frills. A very decent pint and good value. Very friendly staff and cosy surroundings.

I have been using this Hotel for eating fairly regularly for the last year or so & have NEVER been disappointed. The only reason I haven't reviewed it before is that I've just started using Trip Advisor.Don't be fooled by the fact this appears to be a little hotel tucked away in a village on the outskirts of a small coastal town, the food & service would put many large city 'High Class' restaurants to shame.There is a choice of eating in the bar, the restaurant, or even a takeaway (same size portions & quality of food as eating in). There is a fairly extensive menu for such a small place with specials every day. The food is all prepared 'in house' even down to the chips, which many other hotels in the town can't be bothered with thinking frozen will be fine. The service is excellent, attentive without feeling that the staff are watching your every mouthful or trying to hurry you along.The pricing is very good. Portions are generous, leaving you satisfied without feeling bloated, although I couldn't manage 3 courses.Highly recommended, whether for a quick bar lunch, an intimate or family meal or to get a takeaway on the way home (phone & order it's always ready when they say it will be).

The Hillside Stack starter - fantastic combination of black pudding, egg and peppercorn sauce - to die for!

Booked the Mad Hatters Tea Party yesterday for my birthday. Had a great time. The food was lovely and plenty of it. Four big tea pots of cocktails as well. Great value for money. Fab service. They even catered for my gluten and dairy intolerances. Would highly recommend!

Whilst visiting extended family in Montrose we stayed at the Hillside. The rooms are lovely and well looked after and the staff are friendly and helpful. The young woman serving breakfast to us each morning remembered what we liked from the morning before and had it ready and waiting. They have a nice bar that serves late and is used by the regulars so you have some atmosphere rather than sat on your own. The breakfast was served hot and was all very tasty. It's not far at all from the town and there are some supermarket shops nearby. Definitely recommend and would stay again.

Heard it's place to go on a Monday for a ruby, excellent qaulity and value for money. Started with home made onion bahjis and poppadums which we shared, free pint of real ale with the main, which I had lamb jalfreze and my wife the king prawn curry both first class and served with lovely pilau rice. Booked in for the weekend dinner on Saturday.

Was supposed to stay here last night for one night, was booked by the company i'm contacted too at the moment.On arrival i was allocated room 6 on the second floor, the hotel and bar look ok just like something you expect in Blackpool or some grubby seaside resort! When i eventually got into the room which has a broken lock on the door i was shocked at the state of the place, the bed was dirty, sheets full of black fluff that look like it had been left from the previous occupant, the quilt cover look as if it had not been washed and hadn't seen an iron for sometime!The floor had not been hoovered and the sink was like something you would possibly see in a grubby 1980's youth hostel, also filthy as was the toilet and shower.I refused to stay and booked myself into the Park Hotel which was more to what i expect for this type of 3 star hotel.

Been a couple of times and the food is always good. Very nice staff as well. Pleasant surroundings and nice and relaxed atmosphere. Great to see they are doing a curry night now as well. If you have a large appetite they will cater for this as well. Just look at some of their photo's. Well worth a visit.

We had been meaning to go again to the hillside Hotel for some time, and my wife's birthday was the trigger that finally got us there. We were given a choice of tables and as soon as we were settled we were given our menus and asked if we wanted any drinks, which duly arrived shortly after.We chose not to have starters, though they looked tempting, as my wife has a fairly small appetite. She ordered "Fisherman's Catch", and I went for "Seafood and Herb Pancake". The surroundings were pleasant with some interesting art displayed on the walls, and the music was pleasant and not intrusive, so it was an easy wait.The meals arrived within 20 minutes, quite reasonable in view of the people eating and, if we had had starters we would probably have had no wait at all. And what meals they were! The Fisherman's catch was enormous, with prawns in a Marie Rose sauce, scampi, prawns in filou pastry, haddock, and smoked salmon with a large portion of chips to go with it. Happily, it was far too much for my wife so, after I had finished my own delicious seafood pancake with cheesy mash, I was able to eat at least some of her left-overs.Though there was a good choice of desserts, and I will never normally pass up the chance of a cheese-board, both of us were defeated and had to say no.Altogether a delicious - and very satisfying meal. We will be back, and it won't be as long a gap as last time!

This is my first review of a meal on TP, despite being a member for many years. I just had to write a review on the meal I had tonight at the Hillside Hotel. As above, it was truly one of the best mains I have had, and certainly the best S & T. Steak was cooked perfectly, king prawns had a nice resistance on them, garlic sauce was divine and the vegetables were as al dente as the veg. Home made onion rings and hand cut chips just topped it off. Do yourself a favour and have a meal at The Hiller, you won't be disappointed, and it will definitely feel the need to write a review.

Took my mother out for a birthday meal in January. Neither of us had been to the Hillside Hotel for a very long time, Big improvement! Food tasty with good choice and accommodated various dietary requirements, particularly gluten and dairy free options. restaurant comfortable with lots of paintings by local artists on the walls. Separate from the Bar area and a nice quiet environment.

Booked in for the Monday night curry and it was excellent. The staff were very friendly and the service was first class. My wife asked for a vegetable curry that was not on the menu and it was no problem for them to accommodate her request. The food was great and will definitely be back again.

Warm and relaxing atmosphere, localy owned family run hotel, good food and fine selection oh drams. Customers and staff very friendly. Perferc location for local golf courses and fishing on the river

Surprise meal for the missus, The service and the food were excellent as usual, portion size is just right to leave you filled but not busting. The staff is friendly and helpful as some options weren't on the menu, but they were happy to make alternative which was lovely. Will return again

Arrived 2030, Reception empty, found Staff serving Bar.Check in easy as pre booked.Excellent meal @ 2050 & Breakfast next day.Room met all single needs.Now that I know there is a BIG Car Park next the Hotel (I parked on the road outside)I will be back.

We had a two night stay at the hotel during our North Esk fishing trip plus we have dinned in the hotel on numerous occasions whilst fishing in the area, we found our room very comfortable during our stay, also the hotel staff allowed us to return from our early fishing trip on the river for a late breakfast the staff were most accommodating regarding this matter, We have always found the breakfast and evening meal to be well presented excellent hole some good value for money meals either whilst eating in the restraint or in the lounge bar, This is a great little hotel with a warm friendly well come.

I visited this Hotel for a family party and was delighted by the quality of the food and the service. The portions were generous without being overwhelming, the food was delicious and very well presented. The twin room I was in was cosy and had the usual tea, coffee and biscuits . Bottled water was also provided. The shower was clean and the water piping hot. Other family members were in double rooms and these were of a very high standard of decor and furnishing. My son, who is 6'5'' and his wife, spent a very comfortable night in the large bed. We were overall, very impressed by this hotel.

Dropped in with husband for a meal and although we hadn't booked we were made welcome. The food was very nice and service was also good. Will return.

Party night at the town hall montrose was fab... Hillside hotel laid on a brilliant spread.. Food was excellent and the service was first class... lots of happy staff :) Also the entertainment was superb.... Cracking night was had by all

This is by no means a hotel or deserves the status of hotel. It is at best a low grade B&B. Room was small, under equipped for any more than one night, I couldn't stand at the bathroom sink and I'm short, one electrical socket, practically nonexistent wi-fi, not open till 5 p.m. which is laughable. The bar maid was pleasant and reasonable breakfast selection at least.

Lovely little Hotel, room 5 such a comfy bed, very clean and a lovely breakfast served by a very polite young girl! Very quiet as well!

We had a party of 11 the service was first class the food is as always top of the range ( been many times before)with a good range on menu . Would I recommend definitely.

Had a lovely birthday meal with my partner. The service was amazing and the food was to die for. I have only been in for mad hatter tea party's before and they are fun and good value but the meals are well worth going for. Can't wait to go back to try something else.

Another visit to the hotel for a meal with the wife, exceptional meal and service. Could not fault anything and will definitely be going back soon. Once again i can only say what a fantastic meal we both had (Rossini steak out of this world).

Went for a meal last night with my partner, food was amazing! We were a bit wary to begin with as last time we came the food and service wasn't as good as we'd had in the past but definitely turned out to be worth it. We both had mushrooms to start which were very very tasty. I then had the goujons which were amazing, my partner had the steak pie which was even better. The beef just fell apart in your mouth. Had the cheesecake for dessert which was raspberry and white chocolate... best cheesecake I've ever had! Fantastic value for money too. The waitresses were friendly, one was more chatty than the other, however, we did feel they could have been a little more attentive. But still a fantastic meal and pleasant, friendly service. We will definitely be back!

Just went for a quite meal with my parents, this was my 5th time going and never been disappointed! Food is amazing and service brilliant they always have a smile and very polite. Would highly recommend if you are good for good food with a comfortable friendly atmosphere.

My local pub Great food and service as always. Best place locally for a fillet steak always cooked to perfection. Great friendly place to go for a pint or just to mingle with the family in toe for a bar meal.Well recommended for any occasion.

I live locally to the Hotel; and we often dine there and use the bar. The bar has pool table, darts and TV's all set up for sports... Out the back they have a great beer garden with big tables for large groups of friends. The food is always really good and caters for a wide range on offer.

We chose to eat here based on the reviews we read. The welcome was warm and friendly and the menu varied. The dining room is fairly small but not at all cramped. The meal we had was really tasty but far too much to get through! My partner had a starter too so found halfway through the main course that he couldn't finish it.

We had a lovely evening meal. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Great food. Don't be put off by the outside of the building, it's a nice little place to grab a bite to eat

Well this is the first time I have been here with the previous owners. To celebrate my grandson's 21st on a Monday night very quiet. Only table in lounge just 5 of us . put in our main course. As we didn't want starters. 6 o'clock .Got drinks right away. But guess what time we got our main course 7oclock. Bloody ridiculous. They had a table of 7 in the public bar they got there first and main meal served before they started on ours. We are not happy about that visit one bit . just as well the lounge wasn't busy or they would have been there until midnight. Rant over.

Another great meal at the Hillside last night. Only complaint (?!) is that the starters and mains were so good there was sadly no room for dessert. Fish & seafood always very fresh. Great food, service and atmosphere. Owners and staff always friendly & welcoming. One of the only places we go for food when back home visiting.Great place for also just popping in for drinks.

Been for a pub lunch and would say it's nothing special. Very poor ambience, really just a pub as far as I am concerned. Would try and find something better.

The food was very good Scottish fare, quite reasonably priced. What I found exceptional, however, was the service. We arrived with a special needs relation in tow and the staff went well out of their way to aid in accommodating our party. We'll definitely be back!

What a difference not been here for a good few years. When in the other day and the place has been transformed. Well done guys this place is a little gem .

we were very dubious about trying the hillside hotel, but we are so pleased we did, the service was very good, but the food was the star of the show, far better than we anticipated, I had the fillet steak with king prawns and scallops, served with home cut chips, onion rings, mushrooms and a separate dish of salad, the steak was cooked perfectly (medium rare ) and it was so tender, no need for the steak knife, the chips were brown rather than beige as you get in so many places, my partner had the steak and ale pie served with chips and veg, again all cooked perfectly, the veg had true flavour the carrots tasted like mum use to make with what we thought was a butter glaze, for desert we shared a sticky toffee pudding, which came with sauce and ice cream, which once again was delightful, with plenty of sauce, WE COULD NOT FAULT THE FOOD OR SERVICE, we are both from the hotel industry , 4 and 5 star hotels, so not t/h/f, and previous to that I was a chef in the military,,, don't get me wrong this is not a 4/5 star establishment, but nor are the prices, good honest grub for a honest fair price,
