Owner harasses every customer upon entry. Owner full of confidence and even sits on your table at times whilst your trying to eat, what is that all about min? Have been put right off only came in for food not to make a new best friend min........ Doug.

Quite possibly the best food ive ever tasted !!! The Egyptian kebab tandoori sizzler with rice and a cheese and garlic naan was out of this world !!! Excellent service also 👏🏻

Found this gem, just looking for a good pub but found an enthusiastic manager with some great ideas. Keep your eyes out on Facebook for the next event.

Excellent Indian menu here and great, friendly service. Had a delicious Madras curry on latest visit. Lovely rich sauce, perfect amount of heat without overpowering the flavours. Lots of tender lamb in the dish, considerably more than some others I've visited recently. Recommended :-)

My friend and I had fab lamb madras and South Indian lamb with spicy rice and garlic nan. Plenty of meat, plenty of flavour and just the right amount of heat. Service was top notch and prices super reasonable.

Fancied a shawarma recently and seen aboukir is only of the only places near by that offered it so fires right in to order one. I went for a mixed kebab with shawarma and doner with chilli sauce. Delivery was very quick which was excellent. I wouldn’t really describe what I was given as shawarma. It just looked like ripped up chicken breast and lacked any sort of flavour, like it was just tasteless. Fortunately the rest of it was excellent: the doner, chilli sauce and home made pitta were all beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ve given 3* because of the shawarma, but if that was right it would be promoted to a 5.

Below average food, did not seem great taste and not cooked long enough, would not advise to be honest.

Believe this place is permanently closed now, pity.

Used to like it but not as good as used to be

Went to sunday carvery buffet, meat was ok, but vegetables all raw and mash potatoes lumpy, complained but nothing they could do, all in all, bad experience, stick to the curries!

First time for the family to get together in over 18 months. We waited ages for the food to arrive and when it did one meal was cold and the steak was completely overcooked. The service was poor. Complete lack of attention. We struggled to order drinks and no one asked if the food was ok. They seemed to be concentrating on take away orders and it was noticeable the the girls taking these out did not wear masks. Overall a disappointing experience which was a shame as it should have been memorable for other reasons.

This reataurant is great, it has an Indian menu with great traditional meals also,the fish and chips beautiful, the burgers are so good , i am 65 years old and in this restaurant i had the best chios i have ever tasted. Staff quick cheery and friendly.Locals very friendly also

This was my first visit. Lovely and clean, staff were efficient and friendly, but we were disappointed to see a large group of guys in there early 20’s crowded round the bar, some not wearing face masks and certainly not adhering to social distancing, when I went and pointed out to the manager he did speak to them, but it did affect our visit. Starters were delicious and a very generous portion but unfortunately there was a foreign body in my food that they tried to pass off as a piece of onion skin, but it looked more like a clear finger plaster. When we got our bill they had charged for my meal and we had to ask for this to be deducted as I had hardly eaten any of it. All in all a disappointing visit.

My wife and I along with another couple booked the Aboukir for lunch. Our drinks order was quickly taken then we ordered our starters and mains. They were all well presented, very tasty and lovely hot food. We all had clean plates and a lovely ‘ full ‘ feeling. For a good value lunch we would recommend the Abourkir.

Food is lovely and it is very fast service. They also deliver to the local area so you can phone and pay and then book a time slot for delivery. Food is very tasty and large portions will definitely be back!

Four of us had a meal at the Curry Lounge, Aboukir hotel recently. It took an hour for the starters of poppadoms and dips to arrive and another hour for the main courses to be served. No one came to ask if things were ok or explain what was happening. The four of us each had a different curry and they were all good. However, the service was appalling with no apology for the ultra slow service. Won’t be going back anytime soon!

We were visiting Carnoustie and looking for a dog friendly place to eat and came across the Aboukir Hotel. Having eaten in dog friendly restaurants for a week we were expecting more English pub grub (as we had not looked at the menu). How wrong we were. We were warmly greeted and chose from the curry menu. Not a massive choice but everything was cooked from scratch and was up there with some of the best currys we have eaten. Great little place to eat and would fully recommend. Even dog friendly which is a bonus.

First takeaway delivered free last night. 1 garlic chilli chicken and 1 chicken madras. Portions of huge but enough for us. It was so tasty, perfect best curry we have had in ages.

Arrived to the hotel and was greeted by a lovely waitress i think her name was lauri she couldn’t have been any more accommodating we were seated in the restaurant where the new owner had come out spoken to us about the new menu and made us feel very welcome. Over all the service was absolutely amazing, food was even better will definitely be returning and couldn’t recommend it enough

We visited the Aboukier Hotel yesterday for lunch. It was an extremely pleasant experience , the food was excellent and it was a very varied menu. As it was lunch time we chose to have the wraps with different fillings. The portions were very big and were accompanied by a large portion of chips. Several of our party also chose to have a desert which were also large portions and excellent. We could not believe the price as everything was very reasonable. We will definitely go back and worthy of 5 stars.

Had a meal here whilst staying at hotel...food was excellent, fast service, friendly and helpful staff

From start to finish can’t fault the service or quality of food.. We went along on a Tuesday evening Tandoori sizzlers was the special on that night but full menu was also available! I had the chicken thigh sizzler and wow wow!! Popadoms, naan, tikka sizzler and my son had the nachos then we had a sharing waffle for dessert! Great flavours great value. We’ll defiantly be back

8 for dinner and then we all had misgivings about this place.. starters were not to bad however main courses were appalling . Bland and blander rice was cold and colder .. all in all bad.. staff, front of house was disorganised to say the least . Drinks were good , nice beer ... company was excellent .. dinners over priced , for poor quality. For an Indian no chapattis due to no flour ... tosh

From entering this restaurant we were met with a lovely bartender and then asked to take a seat in the restaurant. The new owners have a new menu and we were surprised and delighted with it. Excellent quality, service and price. We will be back and we wish them well.

We missed food service but decided to stay and watch the Joshua v Ruiz fight Friendly people and good atmosphere Good selection of drinks Luckily they brought some pies round during the fight so I didn’t go hungry!

Food is always fresh and tastes amazing.

We stopped here on the recommendation of the B&B; where we were staying. They also gave us a 10% discount. My wife and I both ordered the steak pie and it was delicious. It came out steaming hot with very generous amounts of steak. A full meal. I didn't catch the bartender's name but he gave us great service and fixed my wife a proper G&T; in a bowl glass that she said was excellent.

First time back at the Aboukir since it reopened. The food was excellent. We both had the steak pie which was really really good. Good service with a smile to round things off. Definitely will be back and recommend the Aboukir for food.

Visited aboukir restraurant tonight for the first time since new ownership and we have to say the food and service was first class,and will definitely be returning.

Been to this restaurant a lot over the years but it is alway a hit or a miss. This time it was really disappointing. I had burger and chips and the burger was tiny and tasteless and the chips were skinny chips which I like but were very pale and soft not crispy. My other half had the fish which was overcooked and not nice. There's not much else to say. Won't be back until the reviews get better.

The waitresses were lovely. We waited approximately 45 minutes for our starter which was lovely but by the then we were very hungry. Our mains arrived 1 hour after our arrival and they were quite disappointing. My husband got chilli which was not flavoursome. I ordered a Thai red chicken curry that comprised of three large pieces of chicken and again I could have made a better curry myself. It’s quite disappointing as we used to go there quite often but we are unlikely to return again. Chef get your act together!!

We had visited this bar / restaurant before and found the food to be OK so we decided to take some friends there for lunch. On this occasion the food was well below par - while we only complained about one of the meals in particular in all honesty we could have sent all four back. While the management did not charge for the meal we complained about this did little to placate the mood of the group. We will not be back for a third visit.

Went for Lunch today with my friend around 230pm. The place was pretty empty so no probs for seat.

3 adults and 5 children for lunch, I think we were the only table in. There were far too many mistakes to list them all but wrong orders, late food to the table things that had been asked for never arrived and an apology was given but only after the 3rd complaint.

We called in to have a Sunday lunch on 7th January. we arrived at circa 12.20. The restaurant are was empty therefore we went into the public bar area. The staff were friendly enough and advised us about the specials on the menu board, we opted for the rib roast believing we would be getting a Sunday roast dinner. Not the case, the beef had been cooked previously was sliced, cold and tough. the roast potatoes were not traditional again these has been pre-cooked and had their skin on, accompanied by a few sliced carrots and a floret of cauliflower, no Yorkshire pudding and only a smattering of gravy on the beef, presumably to warm it up. I had a pinto beer and my wife a glass of wine @ 4.95 per glass. We left a sizeable amount of beef and when the waitress came to clear the table asking "was everything ok.." we both said the beef was tough... she responded with "sorry about that"... nothing more... we will not go back. The Open Championship is to be held in 2018, they need to get their act together before then... very very disappointing.

Booking taken for table at 7. 30. We were sharp. Ordered starters and mains. That by the way were just ok. Asked to order sweet and was told the kitchen was closed at 8.00. At no time either at the time of ordering or booking were we informed of this. Very poor customer service. I try as far as possible to support local businesses. But won’t be back.

We just dropped in by chance staff were helpful and found us a table thought the service was a little slow as it did not appear to be very busy however food was very good,

Ate in bar maybe that was the problem. Four of us on a bank holiday Monday looking for an early evening meal..Give them their due they did not charge for one meal which was returned and represented no better.

El Gable ofrece una excelente variedad de comida de pub a un precio muy razonable. La comida siempre es fresca y muy sabroso y las porciones son bastante grandes satisfacer cualquiera con un apetito saludable. El personal siempre es amable y el servicio es excelente. Bien merece una visita y si tienes habitación prueba el pudin

Fui con mi nieta para comida una madre ayer. Dos platos, además de una copa de vino por 13 libras. 95. La comida era excelente y el personal era amable y eficiente. Presentado con una gran caja de chocolate al final de la comida. El restaurante está bien decorado y los inodoros son impecables. Regresaré de nuevo.

Unplanned stop for Saturday night tea time meal. Pleasant surroundings, good menu choice and quick, efficient service from pleasant staff. Premises were busy and my only negative comment is that the acoustics of the restaurant are such that any noise seems magnified.

Very friendly staff. We had fish and chips. Kids had lasagne and chicken nuggets- both homemade and delicious. Excellent value for money! We'll be back.

Vinimos aquí en nuestra primera noche en Carnoustie, el personal era amable y acogedor. Servicio rápido y la comida era buena. El menú era bastante pequeña, Menú típico inglés y escocés y estaba a un buen nivel, bien presentada y con precios razonables.

Now this is a chef who knows how to cook a steak, best one in a long time! This plus the chips and veg made up an ample serving. Great quality and great value...need i say more?

The restaurant is well nicely decorated and layed out. Staff were helpful and came up with a number of alternatives for one of our party who was looking for gluten free food which were not on the menu. Thanks food was good but not outstanding. It was reasonably priced and the portions were generous.

The battered fish at the Gable is the best locally - lovely big flakes of fish and very light golden batter. Good service too.

Went here for an evening meal with family. The manager was very attentive however the lady who served us looked like she wanted to be anywhere else but there. She didn't really speak and once we'd finished our mains she only asked my children if they wanted dessert and never gave me any option of anything else. The food was mainly good. Fish was excellent and so fresh. Daughter had Mac cheese which was really odd. The cheese was bitter and she couldn't eat it. Price was very reasonable. I would go back again even just for the fish!

decided to go to hotel after reading about it in T.A. Went on Friday night and had there fish and chips. Best in we had, the four of us couldn't believe the size of the fish. The staff were friendly and I believe the manager or owner, went beyond his duties to make our night special.

We attended for a large family gathering. We had pre-ordered our main courses which were all delivered as ordered. unfortunately because we did not order desserts there was quite a bit of chopping and changing of what was and was not available. All in all a decent meal for the price.

I had a very strange combination ceasar salad. No parmesan, an uncut chicken breast, no lettuce, but raw onions, rocket, and I think very small cut peppers covered in oil. My other half had macaroni and cheese, basic children's food. I had a glass of white wine, other half a pint of lager. The bill was £22. I wouldn't return. The only reason we went was because we had the dog with us.

We got two main meals for £12. The chicken goujons seem home made, fish is very good and the chilli con carne was lovely served with rice, sour cream and cheese. Good variety of specials. Wine list well priced and all in all very good value for money. Will be back.

The dining room is spacious and the service good. I was not paying so was reserved in my ordering half a pint of beer. battered haddock, chips and salad. very tasty and only 6 pounds 99p maybe check out the hotel review. I hope to write.

Went for a meal on 22nd August with my family, really nice food and very decent prices, Sirloin steak was lovely as was steak pie, and the fish and chips! Would definitely return here

Visited on Sunday evening, 26th.July at 6pm for a meal with visiting family relations.Food was good but the wait between courses was longer than expected, given that not many tables were occupied.Visit was somewhat spoiled by the banging staff door on the wall opposite the windows.Simple draught excluder round the door frame would have sorted out this nuisance.Gents toilet cubicle should have a better lock fitted.Waiting staff are welcoming and friendly.

In the heart of Carnoustie, well patronised with friendly staff and great food. A limited menu but all very good makes making the choice easy. Very good Rib Eye Steak and good local produce used in the dishes. Well worth the money and a great place for a beer.

A reasonable hostellery for the usual beer and food. Has a pleasant beer garden out the front and a separate restaurant to the side. The bar has recently been refurbished and is probably one of the two better pubs in Carnoustie. Also has a large carpark in which it is safe to keep your car overnight if you plan to walk or get public transport home.

Am slightly biased as this is one of my locals but the food and service are both excellent and there is always a friendly atmosphere in the bar and eaterie.

Was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. Excellent quality food and very reasonable prices. Atmosphere was extremely pleasant and all staff were attentive and friendly.

Went twice while staying in area for a short break. Went thursday night to curry night for £5 and was a lovely meal. Took the family with us on Saturday night and had a very nice meal and staff all friendly. Loved the background music so much that I have bought the CD they were playing. Will defo be back next time we are in the area

We had a special occasion and despite having two dogs, we were able to reserve a section of the pub and we ate restaurant standard food. The staff were very attentive and helpful. We will be returning.

Tasty food, comfortable atmosphere and lovely staff. A wee bit more than you expect.... not your average pub/restaurant food. For lunch or evenings.... recommended!

We had a lovely evening meal on Boxing Day evening with our family . We were very pleased with the service and variety of food for our grandchildren too .

First time we have had a Xmas lunch here. Best ever. Food was excellent. The turkey was so moist it melted in your mouth. All food was delicious and was presented well and the little touches like Xmas pies and fudge with your coffee made all the difference. Staff were very pleasant as usual and service was excellent. Price was good. Value for money. Keep up the good work.

Visited this restaurant a few times & was happy with the first few visits, however, the last time we dined here I ordered the burger which was undercooked and the sides received with it was much less than I'd been given before. Nice atmosphere and clean and tidy place but won't be going back!....

The Hotel Restaurant is first class, good food, good wine, good service, in lovely surroundings and not too pricey, what more can you ask for. The entry from the car park cuts through the bar which is a quiet busy with the local's, best enter from the front and avoid this.

The food was excellent, sweet was yummy (chocolate box) staff very helpful.Will be back and would recomment anyone to give the Aboukir a try.The bar are was lively and great atmostphere.

We found this hotel at the far end of Carnoustie on the last day of our short break. If we had found it earlier we would have returned. Food was perfect and really reasonable. Fantastic - a must if you are in the area.

We stayed at the Aboukir Hotel in May on our way back from the Highlands to continental Europe and consequently had dinner at “The Gable”. It is supposed to be one of the better restaurants of Carnoustie and it sure was busy that night. Still, there was nothing to complain. Being vegetarians, we found enough options on the menu, the food was good and tasty and the service was attentive, despite the busy place. Good value for the money. It was a bit noisy, but with a full house, including the pub area, that is not really a surprise. We would eat there again without hesitation.

Food was good, prices reasonable. The waitress was less than enthusiastic. We will return as it's the best local restaurant we have found. Childrens menu wasn't just your usual chicken dippers or pizza. It was proper food which makes a nice change.

Four of us were staying in Carnoustie and booked to eat here at 7pm. The boys were late in from the golf so we phoned to ask if we could slip the booking to 7.15pm. We were told that wasn't possible as there was a party of 12 expected then. We then asked if we could book for 7.45pm instead and were told no because last orders were 7.45pm. We cancelled the booking and ate in our hotel instead. Last orders at 7.45pm in a golf resort in May? These people don't deserve to do ANY business at all. Shoddy and lazy!

Good food, very clean premises and friendly staff. Would not hesitate to go back or recommend to friends.

Stayed at a guest house in Carnoustie for a week, whilst playing some golf in Carnoustie. Decided to come here for supper one night because was one of only places open at night in Carnoustie. The food was good, portions a little small but overall waiters were helpful and catered for my vegetarian friend that was with us.

Great food and lovely staff. Really worth a visit. Very reasonably priced too. Very busy so booking is a must.

Soup was delicious, but a main course salad was tiny and overpriced. Lovely decor, but waitress not trained well, didn't know how to respond to my complaint, poor soul.

best food in Carnoustie - wonderful meal and very nice restaurant with great sevice - a must for any one that enjoys a perfect dinner out.

Don't bother booking at this restaurant at £ 98.00 for 2 people for Xmas day lunch and to be served processed TURKEY it was a total RIP OFF. When I mentioned this to the head waiter he told me that you would be hard pushed to find anywhere in Scotland that served fresh turkey on Xmas day. Not to mention it came with 3 slices of carrots 4 sprouts and 1 piece of cauliflower and a piece of stuffing the size of a fifty pence piece. The Xmas pudding was also minute needless to say we didn't stop for coffee afterwards.

four of us had dinner here on saturday 13th oct two soups,one fishcake not fishcakes as stated on menu and one tiny portion of chilli humous 19.80 for very small portions .Main course once again two small portions duck breast,myself and my friend decided on two steaks one sirlion and one fillet for myself,fillet came with one yes one flat mushroom and frozen chips not the so called hand cut chips as again described on menu at 19.95 and 16.95 plus another 1.50 if you like a sauce.sweets priced at 5.50 or a whopping 6.50 for cheese and biscuits.All in all very overpriced for amount of food served up. ps menu clearly states no processed or frozen produce which is clearly not the case.

Stopped off at this place on the way to Aberdeen after hearing good things from friends. Had lunch, albeit a simple "pub grub" meal. Quality of food was below average to say the least, could tell that things had been heated up in the microwave, chips were stone cold and the food looked as though it had been thrown on the plate (it wasn't even busy!). Thoroughly disappointed doesnt come close.

Recently had a birthday meal at the Aboukir. The quality of the food was excellent and the service first class. The staff were very attentive and all for a very reasonable price. Could have been a bit warmer in the dining room but apart from that, excellent.

One of the best 3 course Christmas lunches I have had for a long time. Excellent food and the very best of service made this outing very memorable. A "must do" when in Carnoustie. Thank you Aboukir.
