Highland Gate Stirling in Stirling

The most awful place I have ever came across. We went for the lunch menu that finished at 5pm. So it was 3 course meal for me and my husband. He went to order it and they said starters and mains come out together. He thought they must have been mistaken as how can you eat a bowl of soup while your main is on the table getting cold. When we asked if we could have the main taken back to be kept warm to my husband finished his soup the manager appeared saying that's not how it's done here you need to take your starter and main at same time. As I dont have the staff for this.We have never came across anything like this. It all seems to silly. But he was getting annoyed at me because I said the restaurant isn't busy at the moment so how can you not accommodate us. He kept saying because that's the way it's done here and that's it. And for the meal its self was awful. I couldn't eat mines it was so bad and when I received my ice cream the manager proceeded to come back to me to go over it all again everyone was staring at us it was so embarrassing. Then he has the cheek to say I will give you your money back. Thinking hes doing ne a favour. The most horrible manager I have came across. We left and went to the river house and had a lovely evening there. Definitely. Will not be returning to Highland Gate.

A very good place to be while staying at the hotel

From a few months ago... breakfast cheap type. Hash browns are mashed potato in thun batter. Baked beans a bit powdery texture. Service terrible at breakfast and unhelpful. Chilli was strips of smoked beef without chilli heat. Coleslaw was mainly mayonnaise! The other week roast potatoes were very chewy! Bust last week perfect. Too much smoked meat and bacon. Hope they've improved.

The worst roast beef Ive ever seen in my life. Looked like precooked beef that had been reheated to the point that it was grey. Absolutely disgusting. Tough as the sole of a shoe, tasteless. Veg looked microwaved. Roast potatoes pale and unseasoned. Horrendous

Hemos visitado la Puerta de las Tierras Altas un número de veces ahora con nuestro perro y siempre han recibido una bienvenida extremadamente cálida. Comida y bebidas son siempre excelentes! Personal encantador, especialmente Shelby que era tan bueno con nuestro perro. Sin duda volveré : )

Brilliant service by Matt, very accommodating particularly to our autistic child's requirements. Food was brilliant, amazing Yorkshire puddings! We would definitely come back again.

Check-in was easy and loved that it was in the bar area, as we had a drink before heading to our room, which was very clean, warm, and comfortable. We dined at night and the next day for lunch. Food was delicious and very reasonable. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Staff who were cleaning the rooms were very friendly and helpful; I have some mobility issues and they made sure that I could manage.

Place and server were great. Food was not so. Very average, more like supermarket cafe food. Portions are significantly smaller than last time. Most of the components of the meal was over cooked greasy. Burger was good. Couldn't say if I wouldreturn . Rather drive the other twenty minutes and get a better meal at The Old Gatehouse.

Enjoyed the set menu very reasonable. The staff were very nice and the food was good too. It's my 2nd time there and would definitely go back again!

I dropped in for a coffee whilst charging my car. Said to the barman I am here just for a coffee, told to take a seat in the bar area, which I did. Waited 20 mins or so, and did not get served. Got up and left. Not brilliant.

"This little roadside hotel is wonderful! The room is very spacious and comfortable. The small reception is in the restaurant/pub, where you can eat very well at reasonable prices. The restaurant is very nice and cozy, with good food, and the staff is very attentive, friendly and helpful at all times. My daughter was not feeling very well about this and they did not give us any inconvenience in making a special light dish for her. The truth is, delighted, especially with the waiter/receptionist who served us. Ideal to start your route through the highlands"

A fantastic experience at Highland Gate! The food was delicious and the service was exceptional. It's exactly what we needed after a long day travelling. I'd highly recommend the signature beef burger and halloumi fries 😋 Yum!

Wonderful food, stopped off on a visit to Stirling. I had two starters instead of a main as I really wanted both the Halloumi fries and the white bait, delicious!!

Staff are very friendly and helpful and the food is lovely. We stayed over from Friday to Sunday. The rooms are lovely and clean with very comfy beds so slept really well. The breakfast has lots of choice from cereals croissants to full cooked breakfast and all reasonably priced. Would definitely return here and would highly recommend this lovely pub.

Went here today for a family lunch. The food was amazing. We had a chicken burger. Fish and chips and a kids pasta. It was all amazing. Charlotte served us and she was helpful and approachable. Loved it.

Staff were brilliant. Fast service and polite. Made a booking with special requests and they made these adjustments no bother. Food. Food was a let down. Massively. Ordered a trio of roasts for £17 something. And what we got was worth 3/4 of that. 3 cold in the middle chewy roast potatoes, mediocre vegetables, Yorkshire was not bad, the 3 slithers of meat and translucent gravy were just "meh". Plate was bare and for £17 for a roast you expect a decent amount. Sadly won't be back as it's been a right put off. We've been here on occasions as a large party and food has been spot on but for a Sunday night and dinner time the food was quite ridiculous. Ended up going to another local spot to be fed as we were still starving after put visit.

Awful experience. We sat down at 6:15 to order food, we ordered 3 Sunday roasts, 2 pork and 1 trio of roasts. What came can only be described as woeful. Let’s start with the veg, the carrots were rock hard, the brocolli was wilted and the red cabbage was slop. The parsnips were rubbery and inedible. There were 3 small halves of roast potato again inedible as we couldn’t cut through them. The meat was clearly from a pre cooked pack and the gravy was congealed. The Yorkshire pudding was soggy. We ordered extra cauliflower cheese, a bowl of 3/4 florets came in a cheese sauce that was clearly out of a tin/packet. Even though my husbands meal was more expensive he had less food on his plate. My mother in law and I had no crackling or stuffing on our plates. I should have been wary from the moment we stepped inside to find the manager at the bar looking like he’d been drinking all afternoon! He was scruffy and his belly was hanging out over his trousers. We raised the complaint with him and he did apologise and said he would give us his card for us to contact him before returning. But honestly we won’t! There was also a smell of damp where we sat, this was coming off a menu inside the box with the condiments which was wet. Not a great experience, thankfully another local restaurant accommodated us

Great place, food was great. We are in the area on holiday and made very welcome by the staff. When next in the area we will be there again.

Chain pub, so no surprises, but really good. Best part was how welcoming the staff were - even sausages for the dog.

Great restaurant, staying at the hotel on our way across Scotland. Food was great but the service was even better. Greeted by the barman we felt right at home. I think his name was Colder then onto the restaurant, the food was really good, recommend the fish and chips. Our server Cameron was awesome, attentive and humorous. Very happy with everything!!

we came across a most unpleasant young man! this employee seemed to be undergoing his came out and was not smiling! when we asked him for mocktails he huffed and groaned! he was unbearable, he threw the spoons to show us his annoyance because the drinks took too long to prepare! moreover half of the drinks were not available

Luego vino el gerente, Calum, y nos preguntó si necesitábamos bebidas mientras estudiábamos el menú. Dos personas muy agradables. Nuestro pedido fue tomado y la comida llegó muy e. El scampi estaba delicioso y a mi marido le encantó la hamburguesa. Este es un restaurante que recomiendo encarecidamente. Fue impecable, acogedor y sirve una gran variedad de comida. Volveremos.

We had a lovely lunch here on a long drive from the south up the Highlands. We were served by Calum who was incredibly friendly and helpful. The play area both indoors and outdoors are great for kids and kept my toddler entertained for most of our visit!

Mother's Day menu was amazing value for money. We all enjoyed our 3 courses with the service being very efficient too

I stayed with a group on a tour for 4 days here, and could not have better things to stay about the whole experience. From the service, to the accommodations, the food and everything in between — I cannot wait to come back to visit. Thank you so much for taking care of us and giving us all a home away from home that brought comfort, peace and relaxation the whole time.

I've been to this pub twice and always found it excellent. The food is tasty, the staff friendly and helpful. I have a couple of food intolerances and Calum helped me out by tweaking some dishes to accommodate my needs. Lovely place, cozy and friendly environment.

Absolutely terrible! No hot water, no double bed that was booked and loud noises above us for over an hour, no response from the night porter.... horrible time!

Unexpectedly nice restaurant given it's random location. Large selection of food and drink, all very nice.

Took my wife and stepfather here for lunch last weekend. Two signature burgers and one fish and chips, both good. Peroni and wine were very expensive, made up for by the great service we got from our waitress Shelby. Quite a bit of banter from Callum too (albeit a bit cheeky!) Would go back.

We are on vacation from the US and the service was amazing. We had a very large group and they accommodated us without difficulty

We stayed at the Highland gate for one night, as research for a trip we will be offering to our clients.the room was lovely and clean and breakfast is amazing and will set you up for the day. The attention that Bruna, at reception, and Lewis, at breakfast, was excelent, the attention to detail was spot on. We will come back for sure. Thank you so much! Unseen Adventours!

We all had prawn cocktails to start and all of same opinion-lovely big prawns but virtually no sauce and what was there had no flavour, basically a scrape of mayonnaise. Flatbread and scampi were great,.one of has steak and merlot pie. The pie topping was brick hard and couldn't be cut with a knife but the side pastry and meat was really nice. There was a big gelatinous mass in the gravy pot that looked gross so didn't touch that. Mash and veg were nice. One dessert or cheesecake which was delicious.

Shelby- shift supervisor You are an absolute Superstar!! The busiest time of the day - 5-7pm you owned that front of house, seating guests, taking drinks orders, getting drinks, taking food orders, covering the bar, booking in overnight guests. You were on fire! Absolute shame your management disappeared at the busiest time of the day to have their break but you proved you're capable of going further and you excelled last night. Despite doing 6 jobs at once and a full family area, you checked in regularly with every table remained calm, friendly and most importantly in control! Really hope senior management give you the promotion you so deserve! You ran that place last night single handedly with such finesse not faltering under the mountain of responsibility that was thrown at you over those two hours! You go Girl - you'll go far in hospitality! Take that leap and take the lead!!

Had breakfast here was very poor quality very greasy couldn’t eat it also glass screens where we sat were very dirty wouldn’t recommend eating here

Modern, clean restaurant that has a separate dog friendly area and a family area with some toys for the children. There is also a main restaurant and a bar area as well as a pool table. Been there a few times at lunchtime for coffees and in the evening for a meal. Wanted to try the new menu and there is a good selection to suit different tastes and portion size was good. Staff on duty were friendly and welcoming.

Callum and the team here are amazing. It's always a great atmosphere in here when Callum is leading his troops. Fast service and great tasting food and a great price too

Was here for a special celebration meal, service was very very slow! Two tables that arrived well after us got their meals before us. Fish goujons were literally 'fish fingers' fish, and chips were full of bones, and baked beans were a thimble serving! Won't be back.
