Quality pub with traditional feels. Our bar server was lovely and it had a good vibe inside. Close to the uni so expect students but there was a mix on the Tuesday night I went.

Very large outside area and great atmosphere

This is one of my fave pubs in Bristol. It’s so cozy and in the best possible way you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. My boyfriend says it does the best Guinness in Bristol and we also love the sausage rolls. The staff are all great too.

The train doesn't seem to run very often!

One of my favourites! So cosy especially on a chilly evening. I have simple tastes and their sausage rolls or cheese baps do me just fine. Lovely beer and friendly staff. Wish I could go more often! Beer garden is covered and heated if you can't find a nook somewhere

Basic down-to-earth boozer (Young's) with some decent regional beer (not the yeasty tasting local vegan stuff) and cheese and onion rolls available. One of the few pubs, in that part of Kingsdown, that's open in the afternoon. No frills, no posers. Check out the gents and ladies signs, as you go down the stairs for a leak.

I love it here, there is good choice of drinks for a good price, and there is delicious mulled cider in the winter. Big beer garden out the back with shelter and fun boardgames inside. If you go try and spot the train that runs through the pub!!

What a fab little find. First visit to this area and came across this pub and absolutely loved it. Cosy inside and welcoming staff who let us sample the cider before buying and a fantastic beer garden with heaters that meant you could sit outside even in January. Will definitely be back next time I visit Bristol.

Really cute quaint little pub dating back to the early 1800's. Traditional inside and serving great cider on tap and an amazing pint of Guinness! Staff are so friendly and welcoming, you need to be quick to get a table as it's pretty busy, they also have a gorgeous garden out the back with heating lamps - perfect for cold evenings like this. Really nice atmosphere, definitely recommend it to anyone staying around the Clifton area.

Cosy little pub at the top of St Michael's Hill. The interior is relatively small (although bigger than it looks from outside) but the garden is expansive and mostly covered.

We had a lovely time, the staff we great and friendly, good selection of drinks. We had booked a table which turned out to be a kind of private room at the front of the pub, which was pleasant and cosy

Seating options both indoors and outdoors cater to different preferences. The outdoor area, in particular, impressed me with its charming design and partial rain cover, allowing enjoyment even in wet weather. The thoughtful addition of heaters outdoors ensures comfort during colder periods. The interior decor is delightful, boasting a unique and inviting atmosphere that adds to the overall appeal. Friendly staff.

Return visit after 30 years still lovely and atmospheric, just a different brewery (no more Smiles 🙁 but a good beer range as Young's. Limited lunch offers but enjoyed the pasty.

Brilliant atmosphere. Traditional but quirky pub, with loads of interesting decor. We visited on a Friday evening so it was very loud and busy, but we did manage to find a table for 2 with no trouble. Pints were around £5.40 which for us is a lot of money, so we only stayed for 1 pint. Definitely worth forking out for an expensive drink just to experience this place!

This was our first port of call on a pub crawl in Bristol and this was definitely our favourite pub of the day.A proper old fashioned pub with welcoming staff, friendly locals,a great choice of beer and a wonderful outdoor area too. A bit of a hike up the hill but definitely worth every puff and pant to get there. Highly recommended and definitely plan on returning.

A classic Bristol pub that’s a stone’s throw from the university. A very pretty and relaxed garden and a legendary snug bar makes an excellent combination. Decent beers and a few snacks. Lots of board games if that’s your thing. Bar billiards if the mood strikes you. It’s all good!

Really great old pub with lots of history and odd things dotted around the interior. The pub also appears in the CAMRA Heritage Guide. The building used to imprison people here before hanging them just up the road back in the days. Very big and nicely lit beer garden, with shelters around the sides. Very welcoming. One of the best pubs in Bristol.

decent pub with a beautiful outdoor space that's great in both summer and winter. it's very studenty so if you want to avoid that maybe head further down St Michael's Hill. the beer selection isn't too great, £5.25 for a Tribute but that's typical of the area.

Good beer selection. But a mainstream brewery it seems ( St Austell and Youngs) Nice, cozy. Everything a proper pub should be, including filled rolls on the bar Model train running around the wall is marvelous.

We booked the small front room for the afternoon and had an awesome time. Good beer and proper old school pub vibes, would definitely recommend

A wonderful, characterful pub with a lovely comfortable feel to it, which is an increasing rarity in these days of gastropub formula. The bar is small, well stocked and very cosy, but there's room for plenty with a couple of snugs at the front, widening to the bar and enlarging further as one heads to the back. The large beer garden is walled all round for privacy and perfect for being outside in warmer weather. There's a limited range of proper, proper, PROPER beer, which will rotate, as any good pub will do. The venue is popular with students and other folk alike, and a note to all that the bogs are down a steep flight of steps, in case access/mobility are of consideration.

Absolutely sensational Sunday roast. Definitely one of the best I've had in Bristol and I've been here for 11 years now. Everything was perfect. But the model train was broken this time around so will be going again soon to re visit.

I love the Highbury Vaults. I've been going there for decades. A lovely traditional pub which manages to cater for the old grey regulars and the enthusiastic youngsters quite happily. However, last night I met a disabled friend there and I realised that this place is just not accessible. The toilets are reached by steep narrow stairs, and there was no way my friend could get down there with his crutches. Beer's good.

Great Guinness. Mediocre roast.

Me and my partner came in on Sunday and this roast didn't dissapoint, pretty much the best roast dinner ive ever had, huge piece of tender beef, amazing choice of veg delicious roasties they were cooked perfect, the leeks and nutty Brussel sprouts were gorgeous, sweet carrots. If I had a choice of last meal this would be it! My partner had a veggie pie which she said was really tasty. We will be back very soon
