We were looking forward to dinner as a family in a restaurant with decent European food. Unfortunately they have changed the decor from what’s in the pictures to something much cheaper, which was a shame. Then we were presented with a Bar Menu for dinner with only burgers and sandwiches for dinner in a restaurant. Disappointed, we carried on and ordered the Chicken Burgers, one was burnt and one had the wrong sauce. They kindly took them back but then replaced them with what looked like the same burgers. The prices were also extremely high - restaurant prices for bar food! Unfortunately we won’t be back.

We tried several restaurants in East Putney and this was easily the best. The food was very good. The seating and setting are comfortable. There is no noise and conversation was easy. The wines by the glass were excellent. My only regret is that we only visited once during our stay.

Eat here twice. Enjoyed both meals. Thought the items were interesting. Especially lied the appetizer with the eggplant. Wine is pricey.

Deliciosa comida, excelente servicio.

We were caught in traffic and popped into Hide and Seed for lunch. It was lovely - we had the chorizo hummous and then trout salad. Both were presented beautifully and tasted delicious. Service was good and very attentive. Clearly the issues from the dodgy reviews left previously have been ironed out. Will come back for an evening meal to sample their cocktails!

We were a bit cautious about going in to eat at this hotel restaurant, as seemed v quiet, but we were glad we did. The food was outstanding and the library area where we ate was very cosy and sylish. It's a good addition to the Putney restaurant scene, so I hope more people discover it.

On the back of a couple of reviews we booked a table at Hide & Seed. Our experience was like being on the set of Fawlty Towers but John Cleese was not the manager - in fact there was no manager, only a porter who acted as waiter for the evening and a young lady who had just started working there 2 days previously. Once our meal was ordered it took 1 1/2 hours for the first course to arrive. Those on the next table had finished their main course before we even saw our first. As a sample of our meal: hummus was warm as it was served on toast on a piping hot slate platter; hake was not seasoned; dessert of almond and rosemary cake with beetroot sorbet was inedible. But they were gracious enough to not charge for coffee. We shall not be returning there.

A recent Evening Standard review as not kind to Hide and Seed so my expectations were low. As the review suggested, the dining area is not the most appealing as it feel like a hotel and not restaurant. However, that said, the food was absolutely fabulous. We had the chicken and Chorizo to start and then the Halibut. Beautiful presentation with amazing flavours and taste. The service was very attentive (a little inexperienced but still v good) and I have to say the evening totally exceeded expectations. I gather refurbishments are planned to create a different dining area - I really hope so. Also, we have had few really good chef in Putney so I really hope we keep this one as he has talent.

The two of us had a funny evening at Hide & Seed. Not what the proprietor had in mind I suspect. Many people would have been annoyed, disappointed or dare I say angry by some of the things we experienced last night (Friday). We laughed. On arrival at about 19:30 we found a smallish bar area, lounge and dining room. Attached to a hotel called The Lodge. The whole place has had a stylish refurbishment in recent years and does feel quite hip. As reported by others it's an unusual location with some competition near by (Prince of Wales and Bibo) that do similar food of a high standard. We sat and had a drink and the entertainment began! While waiting for our drinks we heard glasses breaking and watched one of the waiters stoll across the lounge trying (note that word) to spin a tray on his finger. Which of course fell off crashing to the ground. Nothing broken this time as the tray was empty. The waiting staff do not know how to organise themselves and so much like we discovered in the restaurant when we sat to eat you are approached by a different staff members asking you the same question. Perm any number from : "would you like to go to your table", "drink?", "wine list", "menu", "have you ordered?" "desert", "coffee", etc. We sat to the table. There was one other table of two and one of three. Food chosen from a fairly short menu but much of it I really wanted to try. So the expectation of the food was high and given it's location felt like we'd found a hidden gem despite some of the hiccups we'd by this point experienced. We asked for the wine list. Again short but that's fine with a small number of covers. We asked the wine waiter about a Spanish White - he clearly didn't know anything about the wines so offered to let us try some "if the bottle was open". He brought two healthy sized slugs of wine - not cold. We didn't like it so asked for a French white "is it cold? Yes"....of course it turned up warm was served generously before we could say "leave it in the wine bucket". No where for the bucket so the small table had it plonked on while he looked for a table for the bucket - which never arrived. Then over the speakers blasted out Bon Jovi. Excellent, RAWK at dinner! As the song neared it's end a waiter ran through the restaurant clearly just noticing what was going on. Music turned off. 20 minutes later it was back on - this time it was Lenny Kravitz. Music stayed much longer this time. Clearly who ever was in charge thought it was OK. The food was really good. I've attached a blurry menu to this review. We had - Chicken & Chorizo, Fish Bread & coffee, Cabrito goat (wonder flavour although the rosemary mash was probably too runny), farm sirloin and Heaven sent rosemary and almond with a very nice but weird sounding beetroot sorbet. Food looked and tasted wonderful. Probably a little colder than it should be but not too bad. Only fault was possibly that the steak although asked for rare was too close to blue. The cut had some gristle which was unnecessary as it was served sliced. Other random funnies included another guest being offered sherry as a dessert wine and a short "lecture" ensued from the guest explaining when the English drink that tipple. An un heard comment about the menu was was greeted by a member of staff saying "the menu's changing next week" as if whatever was wrong today didn't matter as next time it will be better. Ironic as the food isn't the issue. The floorboards in the restaurant also need work as they act as a seesaw. Every time the staff walked up and down the room my chair bounced up and down. If you suffer from seasickness be wary of where you sit. Lastly one of the doors to the kitchen squeaks loudly. So all evening the ambience when not drowned out by RAWK was accompanied by a dawn chorus of shrieks. They must know that noise is there and a small dab of oil would I'm sure fix it. Who sees the big picture and owns front of house? Where's their attention to detail...?If the owner reads this then I'd suggest they get a strong front of house manager who organises the staff and has laser like attention to detail. If the chef reads this then keep up the good work and get the owner to read the first sentence of this paragraph as he or she is letting you and your great work down as it is masked by incompetence totally unnecessarily. In summary fab food funny evening. Go with a sense of humour and enjoy the food.

Discovered this place on trip advisor with two 5 star reviews so gave it a go due to it's quirky nature. Menu is a bit too sophisticated for its location and atmosphere lacking. Service was ok. Wine was not chilled and mains a bit cold. We did get a complementary desert though. They are changing the menu soon so may be worth a visit.

The restaurant is divided in two rooms, the "Library Room" and the Bar. The first one is beautiful with all the books on the walls and its ceiling light. The Bar offers amazing cocktails and is so stylish with its hide chairs! The food is original AND delicious ! Hide & Seed is perfect to eat like in a Michelin starred restaurant, with reasonable price!!

I very rarely pay attention to the invitations I get in the post, but when I received an actual seed package inviting me to the launch of the new restaurant called Hide and Seed, I couldn't resist having a look to see what these punny guys have come up with. The restaurant is located at the Lodge Hotel and features a very intimate and homely atmosphere with a modern take on the 70s design that gives off a "Wes Anderson" vibe that I absolutely love. The restaurant is divided into 2 areas with dark mahogany wooden doors: a library with cosy armchairs and a lounge with these amazing tables that are made out of solid wood. Basically a lot of fantastic wood work in the restaurant, which I'd assume is kind of the theme of the restaurant. The menu, as one could imagine, also follows the "woods/nature/seed/herb" theme with delicious game and just mouthwatering dishes. I had the chicory & cornish blue with beetroots that was so delicious I was close to getting a second portion. My main dish was halibut with purple potato pure, which just melted in my mouth and might have been one of the prettiest dishes I have ever seen. My friend said she wasn't hungry, so she only ordered the allotment vegetables, but to my disappointment they disappeared so quickly off her plate I didn't actually get to try any (oh women and their diets!). The food was delivered very quickly and the staff were super friendly, so overall I think that Hide and Seed is bound to become very popular with the Putney community. If you have a chance, definitely pop in to have one of their yummy cocktails, though I am pretty sad their cocktail menu isn't extensive enough.

Went for a birthday celebration. Our usual dining preference is a definite cuisine with homestyle cooking and no pretension. Once a year or so we do a fine dining option. She is vegetarian, I am less fussy. I am a good home cook, she works in the restaurant trade and we are sympathetic to current difficulties. We didn’t need to be so here; OK so I usually blench at the sight of a man tweezering food and waitstaff that serves the first course with “Let’s start our journey”,; it often signals a night of pretension and not much else, but this was excellent cooking and service to back it up. There is a £65 four course menu and a £85 tasting menu incl a veg option. We had the 4 course. Yes the portions are small, its not quite the ‘bag of chips on the way home’ scenario but its not gluttony either and ‘langoustine’ is exactly what it says. One langoustine, £15 additional option, doubtless because of the dab of caviar on the top of it, but it was the most perfectly cooked specimen I have ever had. They don’t travel well and often past their best before they arrive at a kitchen. The brioche melted in the mouth, the risotto was al dente but not raw and the parmesan crisp on top of it had obviously taken a lot of work, a sea bream ceviche was seriously fresh and beautifully balanced. The monkfish delicate and moreish. The wine list is expensive but that’s how it is these days – deal with it. The (presumably) head chef with the tweezers had obviously put in a lot of hard work in prep before he picked them up. Watching the kitchen staff in the open kitchen you saw zero macho heroics and a lot of surefooted care. The room wasn’t full all night and so I cannot vouch for the noise level past that, but mercifully no-one had turned up a ‘curated’ playlist. Service was attentive without being obsequious; you don’t usually get a recommendation for a Ukrainian ‘shots bar’ at the post dinner chat – we will check it out on a less refined evening. Really enjoyed it, you would be hard pressed to find better at this style of cooking and certainly not at this price level. Definitely worth a visit. Damn fine stuff.

The restaurant is located directly on the Thames and has a circular floor to ceiling glass layout. The ground floor is essentially a coffee shop that serves meals and the first floor is a restaurant. An ideal place for a relaxed meal. Good food, friendly staff, and excellent views of the river. The breakfast pancakes are not to be missed.
