Hibiscus in Northampton

We had the taster menu with paired wines. The food and wine was superb with faultless service. Not cheap but we got what we paid for. Highly recommended.

An outstanding meal from start to finish where everything was served with style, packed with flavour perfectly presented and cooked to perfection. A most accommodating front of house ensured a a fabulous evening went ahead. Each course was well defined and expertly explained, given the previous praise given already. We savoured each mouthful and looked forward with anticipation to the next. Delicious combinations and flavours made for a truly gastronomic experience. When asked what our favourite dish was it was almost impossible as so many stood out, for me it was a choice between the beetroot with meringue and goats cheese, the monkfish and the venison. All brilliant in their own way. Local ingredients are used with many of the vegetables grown in the Abbey Gardens. Fresh. Zero food miles. Delicious. What more can one ask for. It is easy to see why Hibiscus has won so many awards and who know they are well deserved, Michelin next? An almost certainly. Why it has taken us so long to find dining on our doorstep I will never know, but one thing is for sure it will be our first visit of many. Amazing tasting menu and fantastic service. Just a couple of things which would have made it perfect. Firstly the approach to the restaurant is really dark - there needs to be some lighting. Secondly ambience in the restaurant - it was very light - with some tweaks to lighting this would be so much better.

Second visit to Hibiscus this time a celebration taking my 19 and 14 year old daughters for their first experience of fine dining .. so impressed with the flavours quality and making us all feel welcome ( the girls where not sure what to expect) they rated gravlax as there favourite from the course’s . Rate this as one of my favourite restaurants.

A real hidden gem. There aren't many fine dining restaurants in Northamptonshire but this stands out for all the right reasons. The food reminded us of Restaurant Alma (2 Michelin star) in Lisbon; fresh, innovative, and beautifully presented. The wine pairings were just right and the setting is beautiful. Service was discreet and efficient. On it's way to becoming a really special place. Enjoyed that they're now growing and using some of their own produce which could continue to elevate the restaurant, maybe a new Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons in a few years...?!

Been a few times now and it's never disappointed!!! There service is silver service at It's best. But more importantly the food is just simply outstanding!! I would recommend doing the 5 course tasting menu.

First time visiting. We arrived at 6.30 as per booking, we waited for 25 minutes before being offered a drink. The bread arrived about ten minutes later. This seemed very slow service but unsure why. Once the food came it was very nice, quite a fish based menu so looking forward to the new one when the Change happens. Not on par with a Mitchellin level but on its way. Attention to detail is needed, such as water jugs , cutlery. Staff are very pleasant but not quite oiled Will definitely come again and keep an eye on this place.

Had the 7 course tasting menu and Wine flight , to celebrate a Wedding Anniversary.What a great way to spend an evening.The stars of the night is the food, every plate is a masterpiece of quality,colours,precision and multi combinations of taste.The wines bring an extra dimension to food and raises the bar again.Staff are friendly,knowledgeable and attentive they obviously take pride in working there.Yes it can be viewed as expensive,but you are definitely paying for quality x

Silly me - I didn't know of the existence of Hibiscus until a few weeks ago. We went for the tasting menu last night and the experience was eye-opening. Rather snobbishly I had thought that Northants was a gastronomic desert - again, silly me. We enjoyed one of the best meals we've had in the last few years. It's right up there with 1 Michelin starred establishments. The quality of the ingredients was first class, starting with a wonderful mini venison tart as the amuse bouche and ending with superb petits fours. The cooking was precise and the presentation beautiful. The tables are well spaced. The staff are just exceptional, well trained, knowledgeable about the dishes, attentive without being overbearing. The wine list was interesting and the mark-ups were reasonable. I'm just kicking myself we hadn't been to Hibiscus before. We shall certainly go again.

I enjoyed a fabulous five course dinner here, by far the best meal I have ever had in Northampton. Every course was beautifully presented and explained by the well trained waiting staff and most importantly, delicious. It was fantastic to have seasonal ingredients like asparagus and unusual ones like loveage. The historic setting of the beautiful billiard room at Delapre Abbey made it a very special meal.

This was our 2nd visit to Hibiscus for the 7 course tasting menu. The food was superb and every course was delightful. The young staff provided a professional service and they went out of their way to ensure we had a great time. We are so lucky to have such an amazing restaurant in Northsmptonshire.

A rare event event, fine dining in Northampton. Superb food and friendly staff. This was a tasting menu and the stand outs were the carrot cappuccino and the curry hake. All others dishes were great and the wine flight accompanied each course perfectly.

We have wanted to try the hibiscus for years, and it did not disappoint! Absolutely beautiful food served like a work of art and incredible flavours in every bite. The restaurant is lovely, and the staff so welcoming and friendly and had such an extensive knowledge about each dish. A special mention needs to go to our server, who was a young man, who explained every dish to us so professionally.. he really is a credit to the restaurant. The other girls who served us were also all so attentive and nice to. I can't wait to return for the next menu!

A really excellent meal. Each dish had layers of flavours with a variety of textures that really brought out the complementary flavours of each ingredient. The accompanying wine flight used really imaginative pairings to complete a most enjoyable evening.

I was lucky enough to be gifted a voucher from my work and had the most wonderful experience. The food was the best I’ve ever tasted, we went for the 7 course but really had 9, the bread starter kicked it off impeccably and that’s not even in the menu but it was incredible. We could not choose between all the courses they were all Devine. The staff were knowledgeably, friendly, kind and respectful, the atmosphere was perfect. We did not have the wine flight but the wine we did have although expensive was the best we ever tasted. I would love to do this again one day, absolutely superb. Thank you so much x I got distracted by the food and forgot to take all the photos, so i need to go back to do it again. Photos don’t do it justice I promise every bite was yum.

Wonderful restaurant in a beautiful building. Friendly, efficient and knowledge service. Delicious food. Excellent wine including Nytimber English sparkling. This is by no means a cheap place to eat, but definitely an excellent choice for a for a special occasion. Every dish was beautifully presented and the waiter explained how the wine flight choice paired expertly with the food. I highly recommended Hibiscus to anyone wanting special food in a special place.

Hibiscus is a hidden gem in Northampton. The service was great and the food was incredible. The 7 course tasting menu was outstanding. To improve I would recomend better signposting. If you have yet to visit delapre abbey it can get confusing. Overall excellent evening and we will be returning.

One of my favourite restaurants for fine dining in Northampton. The food is always well thought out and presented beautifully. The matching wines compliment the dishes perfectly. The staff are efficient and friendly. Dietary requirements are always met. The only thing I'd recommend changing is adding more carbs to the main course, love a good potato side dish.

Wonderful food and service. The partridge was excellent as was the trout. The toffee apple desert and final chocolate tart just outstanding. Good wine. Attentive and very charming service. What a superb meal and experience.

Delightful evening enjoying The Taster Menu accompanied with matching wines to each course. Every single course was amazing, with hidden delights awakening our taste buds. It was the first night of a new menu and I recommend all to not hesitate and experience this wonderful menu along with superb service.

The meal itself was phenomenal and the wine pairing was excellent. The waiting staff were attentive, timed everything perfectly and were knowledgeable about the dishes and the wines. It was fantastic. We will of course be recommending the restaurant to everyone and returning ourselves soon.

Our second visit to this fabulous restaurant! Lovely staff, food and setting. Tasting menu especially the tomato dish exceeded our expectations. Will be singing your praises for a long time to come and will be back again.

The food here is inedible and we had the flight of wine too with some very interesting taste combinations. We had 7 courses of delicious food - if only the front end staff knew what they were giving you! A taste sensation but sadly no communication. We’ve eaten some amazing food in some amazing places and believe me, the food at Hibiscus stands up to that….but don’t expect the experience you’d normally get with this type of fine dining. Well done the chef!

Beautiful room with lovely views and a warm inviting atmosphere. The 7 course tasting menu was brilliant from start to finish and made us want to come back for more. Each course was beautifully presented and inventive with amazing attention to detail in each one.Elliot and his team provided great service and were attentive and friendly. We managed to secure a booking on Xmas Eve just before Northampton entered tier 3 and restaurant shut once again.We enjoyed the 7-course tasting menu with the accompanying wine flight, one of the party was a pescatarian which the restaurant catered for with no problems. All the food was lovely and the wine was great too. The staff were all lovely and provided a really good level of service.I'd highly recommend for anyone wanting something a bit special or those who have an interest in fine dining.

We had the 10 course meal with wine flight. It was amazing. Particular highlights were the curry meringue, pigeon and turbot, and we enjoyed the Granat so much we ordered a bottle at the end. Well worth the money x

The atmosphere even with the low dinner numbers due to (social distancing), was friendly warm and welcoming. The taster menu was exciting. Making us only want to come back to try the wider menu. Plus, the all-round cost was reasonable. You took a lot of care and attention provide a pescatarian option. Which was greatly appreciated. We have had the best dining experience ever in Northampton, the ambiance and decor were London quality, not not matched with the 10 course taster menu and accompanying wine. In a really Lovely warm grand dining room. Enjoyed the walk past the main house before and after our meal helped digest our lovely meal. Will definitely go again what a Gem Of a Restaurant in fantastic setting.

Had wanted to try Hibiscus for a while out booking git cancelled in March due to restrictions. So glad we finally went. Had the 10 course taster menu each course was well presented and tasted amazing. The flight wine was also a good choice again all the wines were perfect. The staff are very attentive and helpful especially the Manager who I emailed a couple of times. Brilliant customer service delicious food and a great experience would highly recommend. Hopefully will visit again soon. Thank you to all at Hibiscus for a wonderful experience and great service.

We visited on a Friday evening with friends. The setting is lovely, especially early evening. We had the seven course taster menu, which was of great quality, taste size. The manager Elliot was very tentative and knowledgeable. Thank you for a great night out

My husband and I held our wedding reception at Hibiscus and it was perfect. From our first meeting with Elliot and Sam we couldn’t fault the service we received. Elliot came to us with ideas to make our day special like hiring the walled garden for serving the welcome drinks and canapés to our guests and for our photos. When the weather wasn’t on our side, he arranged for us to move inside to use the beautiful library instead. We felt like he really cared about helping us to make the day perfect. When we first walked into the restaurant on the day we were so happy, it felt really elegant. The position of the restaurant with views across the park is beautiful, especially as the sun is setting. And the food Sam prepared was just amazing! He tailored the menu to include foods we love which felt very personal. And the presentation from the canapés through to the dessert was impeccable, as well as the service on the day from all of the staff which was faultless, it was just the most special day.

Wow! What can I say, the food and service here were better than some Michelin star restaurants we have eaten in.Each course just blew us away in term of flavour and presentation. Favourite courses were the pork and the beef tomato. So complex and satisfying. We opted for the wine pairing and other than the first course sherry felt each wine perfectly complimented the food. Hidden gem in Northampton. Highly recommended and would return again if we are in the area. Thank you for a lovely evening.

My husband and I visited Hibiscus on 5th September. We were promptly shown to our table and presented with the menus. We opted for the 7 course tasting menu with wine parings, with myself having a vegetarian tasting menu which the chef had prepared. The restaurant was fully booked, but the staff were still very alert and attentive. The food was great, with impressive presentation. It was lovely to meet the chef towards the end of the meal. Thank you Elliot and team. We will definitely return.

Northampton is very lucky to have Hibiscus and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. We’ve been visiting since it first opened at the Royal & Derngate and its new home within Delapre Abbey is wonderful. The food and service have always been exceptional and our most recent visit certainly didn’t disappoint - everything was perfect. We received the warmest of welcomes from the restaurant manager and his team and the service throughout the evening was impeccable: friendly, but certainly not intrusive. Every course of our tasting menu was absolutely delicious, with some outstanding flavour combinations. We had a relaxed and thoroughly enjoyable evening and can’t wait to return. Bravo Hibiscus!

We went here for a 30th Anniversary dinner and had to have the tasting menu which was very good though personally I would rather have been able to choose. Unfortunately the wine flight was not available with staff not back so that was disappointing.But it was all very good and a nice intro' to the place at Delapre and we look forward to trying it again when the full menu is on.

The food was of a.very high standard. However, I found the service very intrusive as the head waiter on the days we went was over friendly, I almost expected him to pull up a chair and join us. Last time on twice we asked a question of the waitress and he came over and got involved when there was no need. We have been twice recently and it was the same both times.As I said the food is excellent.

Easily the best meal out that I’ve ever had. Often in ‘fine dining’ establishments, the service can feel very formulaic, robotic almost. However, Hibiscus gives the perfect blend of both high-class and personal service. Our waiter, who happened to be the restaurant manager, was incredibly personable and made us feel like we were at home. His service, combined with the delicious food and sherry, lead to the best evening. Already booked to come back and we are extremely excited to see what the future holds for the restaurant. I’m certain that it’ll involve a Michelin star, or two.

We had the £75 each 7 course tasting menu with paired wine. Fabulous food and wonderful attention to detail. Flavours were sublime and the wine matched perfectly. We particularly liked the celeriac course but everything food wise was excellent. We didn’t particularly like the texture of the venison tartare but that’s just a personal thing. Minor quibbles (being picky), the route from the car park needs better lighting. the flower on the table was clearly fake and separate ladies/ men’s loos would be preferable. Tea lights would make it more intimate? We think £170 for dinner for two is rather steep (fizzy water and a glass of Prosecco on top of fixed price) and it’s this that would prevent our return. If you can afford it - or you want somewhere really special - go for it.

Went for an evening meal on 7th March. Our first visit to the new home in Delapre Abbey. The new location is fantastic. Lots of parking and easily accessible, though about a 100m walk from the car park to the entrance some of which is hard packed gravel so bear that in mind if someone in your party is in a wheelchair. That said, you can drive right up to the abbey if needed which would make things much easier. So the food. Ate from the A la carte menu and we were impressed once more. Starters were wonderfully flavourful and set the tone for the rest of the meal. The sirloin of beef was amazing, as was the duck breast. The same nice touches of canapes and freshly baked breads add to the enjoyment in between courses. The desert was heavenly. I had the chocolate sphere, and my partner had the Bakewell tart. Both were amazing. It isn't cheap to eat here, but then you are getting an incredible experience, and honestly, worth the price. A fantastic place for a special occasion. Already looking forward to the next visit ( might have to invent a special occasion ! ). Will have to try one of the taster menus in future.

The best fine dining option in Northampton. The cooking easily worthy of a second AA rosette.,but some of the courses need to pack more flavour for a third. We had the tasting menu and wine flight (which was amazing value) salt baked celeriac paired with dry white sherry was a revelation. Some of the course seasoning needs a little adjustment . Would I go back? Definitely

Difficult one this! Delapre Abbey provides a lovely, romantic venue and the service is second to none. It is however, a very expensive treat. We enjoyed our seven course 'Valentine's' Taster Menu and as well as taste bud busting, the courses were beautifully presented. But at the back of my mind kept niggling... I'm paying £65 plus £10 for a glass of wine and £5 for the bottle of water.

Booked 3 months ago, I phoned today to confirm the booking which usually is them calling me only to find that they have shut. No phone call, zero contact. Their response was that they had posted it in their Facebook page, I’m not on there, and they had called all reservations, not true as we were one of them. Ballsed up my wife’s birthday dinner, saved by Sorrentinos. Go there instead.

Wonderful attentive staff, chef Sam also came out to greet us. We went a la Carte instead of the many course dinner menu. Food and presentation were fab. Only improvements (picking at straws here, trying to be constructive) will be 1- can have a more extensive wine list; 2- remember to serve desserts with a fork, as was fun trying to catch my swimming dessert with only a spoon). Next time in town, will definitely return.

We visited this restaurant with friends who live locally and had visited it before. The restaurant is quite small by some standards but that gives it an intimate feel and means attentive service. All four of us went for the seasonal tasting menu and matched wines. Normally when I do this, there's usually one course I don't like, but not here. More often I also find that the matched wines, don't match, but again not the case here.I live on the south coast of England so unlikely to visit again, but if I was back near Northampton would happily pay another visit. My recommendation - tasting menu with matched wines.

The ambiance was friendly and homely. It was quiet and very enjoyable all round. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

We we’re going to the theatre and decided to eat out too. The meal was delightful - especially the puddings. The chef was willing to explain how to make one of the starters that my daughter really liked. It has a calm and friendly atmosphere. It was ideal as while not rushed they were mindful that we were going to see a play. We would definitely go again.

Theres something odd about the location of this restaurant - within the confines of the the 2 theatres in the town. Its located in a twisty turney place and on arrival you are greeted by the chefs working in the kitchen which personally I think is a bit weird. One immediate failing was that no one offered to take and hang our coats. We were shown through to the actual eating area which is chintzy in styling (I remember the old Crown Room of the Royal theatre corporate hospitality days). There were 3 other tables occupied and we had been offered the last slot of the night despite there being little patronage as we arrived. Again that struck me as odd.

This is a little gem of a place to eat inside the Derngate. Really friendly and knowledgeable staff and the food is off the scale when it comes to taste.

Had a lovely meal at HIbiscus for my birthday. Food was delicious - especially the fish. We had 3 course and canapes to start and all were wonderful. The service was also exemplary.

Went for dinner here, had the 3 course menu, each course was lovely, we had some canapés to start which were delicious and an amazing fudge piece with my coffee. We will definitely be going back again.

Mum and I went here last night for a pre-theatre meal and the restaurant is very cosy decorated nicely, the staff were lovely and friendly and our meal was absolutely delicious and presented beautifully. The flavours were stunning and we both really enjoyed it. would definitely recommend you try this restaurant and we are very fussy!!!

The culinary bar in Northampton has gone up with Hibiscus’s opening. Not easy to find unless you know but I’m sure WOM will work well.

Another excellent meal. This time we went for the a la carte menu. My wife tried each of the seafood dishes while I had a duck starter followed by a succulent lamb main dish. I really enjoyed the chees course before desert as the cheeses are a great selection kept at room temperature rather than refrigerated to death. Lovely, friendly, helpful staff. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Very pleasant pre Theatre meal with delicious food. However the panna cotta needed a lot more wobble! In fact there was so much gelatine it didn’t wobble at all. Nice flavour though!

My husband and I had a very enjoyable dining experience. The staff were very welcoming, polite and attentive throughout the meal, checking to ensure that everything was to our satisfaction. They made us feel very comfortable in the beautiful dining room.

Stunning food, service and surroundings. The food was amazing, looked beautiful and full of flavour. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable and very pleasant and the venue was cosy and relaxing. I definitely would recommend and can’t wait to visit again.

We have been here a few times before, and the food is always lovely. And every time my wife and I have both been drinking, but have had water as an extra. I took my wife out for dinner last night to try out the new menu, and as before the food was very nice. However, my wife didn't drink so had the still water, assuming it was going to be the tap water as previous visits. It wasn't until we got the bill at the end we realised it was a bottle of still water that we had, and when I saw that it was £5 on the bill, I was shocked. How can anybody charge this much for a bottle of still mineral water, when a pint of beer only costs £4.20 at the same restaurant. I don't mind paying more for things (the food) when they are as nice as at this restaurant, but not for something like water.

I took my family here for the first time to give then a taste of fine dining. We were all impressed. Delectable food, amazing service, a vegan friendly menu for me, plenty of food including appetisers and bread. Relatively cheap wine. Would highly recommend to everyone. Thanks!

Our daughter treated us to our first fine dining experience at Hibiscus. It was fantastic, great food, lovely staff and good ambience. Had the 3 course meal this time but will return for the tasting menu.

Visited this relatively new venue early evening on a Friday - very quiet so not much atmosphere

I enjoyed a wonderful 50th birthday celebratory meal with my husband in January. The whole experience was amazing. Beautiful dishes, wonderful staff and an exquisite atmosphere. If feels as though you're sitting in your own very posh dining room.

We were greeted and shown our table by a very friendly waitress who took our drinks order and left us to look at the menu. The drinks arrived as ordered and we ordered our meal. Not a lot of choice 3 starters, 3 mains & 3 sweets. The miniscule main arrived and was as described. I was disappointed. It tasted lovely but a couple of items I couldn't eat as they were raw. My husband had the duck that was very tasty and he enjoyed it but again - a very small portion. We were not getting too excited about the desert but when it arrived it was delicious. We will visit again but will be discuss the food a little more with the waitresses. I cannot fault the ambience or the waitresses, they were brilliant.

We had the taster menu on our first visit to this lovely restaurant. The chef was happy to explain how he had created some of the dishes so it was an education as well as a delicious, perfectly balanced dining experience.

The restaurant decor and welcome is great but issues with the basics, such as serving the wine, menu pricing presentation and getting the order wrong was our experience of our first visit.

2nd time of going to this lovely restaurant in the Royal & Derngate, this was our anniversary dinner, married 1 Year and my lovely wife decided to treat me. Lovely warm welcome from the staff, restaurant was almost full but not noisy so we could comfortably chat across our table, we received a first class and attentive service throughout the evening, we chose the taster menu and we both agreed it was superb at the end of the night, the chef popped in to say hello and congratulated us on our anniversary, we duly thanked him and his staff on a wonderful menu, particularly the fish course and the main course of fillet of beef.

I went to the restaurant and it was lovely. The environment was wonderful and good fab.

This was my second visit to Hibiscus...I took my husband this visit..Was worried it wouldnt be as good as my last visit with my daughters..but I was wrong..it was even better..

We were greeted warmly in to the restaurant by Sophie. From start to finish of our experience we felt well looked after and in good hands. The service was just enough and in no way overbearing. Sophie showed a good knowledge of the menu and recommended some fantastic wines to accompany each dish. We thoroughly enjoyed the high quality of the food and overall ambience of the restaurant. This is a very small restaurant in the theatre building. Their concept is to have a limited amount of options available but for them to all be of a very high standard. We’ve been a few times and the food has always been excellent. Highly recommended

we love fine dining and the hibiscus didn't let us down at all.the ambiance was lovely the staff were so professional and nothing was too much trouble.the menu was varied and we couldn't make our minds up to start with.firstly we were served with an assortment of three canapés,each one being delicious.we also were served with homemade bread and butters again which were lovely.my husband had the trout starter and I had the oxtail tortellini both were absolutely scummy.we both had the pork tenderloin main again this was really tasty and for dessert I had the apple terrine and my husband had the meringue both again were delicious.the evening was relaxing with wonderful food, perfect for a Saturday night.would we visit again...........of course its one of our favourites now

Visited for our wedding anniversary. Great ambience topped by the wonderful tasting menu and excellent service. Inventive, flavoursome, fun, special. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful meal. The food was fantastic, service was excellent and the setting just perfect. We would highly recommend this restaurant and will be back for sure

The restaurant was nicely decorated and tables presented well. The Service was good but it was noisy from the Theatre initially and then a table of approximately 10 young men came in and they were very noisy spoilt our conversation. The food was good quality but very sparse. The rowdy men gave us a bottle of wine when we left to say sorry. I don't think we will be going again, shame but the portions were very small. I cant usually manage a sweet but I had one as I was still hungry, not the best cheesecake I have ever had.

Our third visit after an interval of months. We tried the tasting menu for the first time and we were impressed. Not the best we have had in this price range, but varied and well-executed flavours and textures. Pleased to report that the service was greatly improved, much more professional and in keeping with the quality of the food The customer experience is still affected by the odd location within the theatre building and lack of anywhere for pre dinner drinks, but certainly the best food in Northampton.

We’ve had the pleasure of dining at Hibiscus several times since it opened last year and it always exceeds our expectations.

Nestled upstairs in the Derngate is this little gem. Really lovely menu and great service from Kieran and the team, nothing was too much trouble. The ambience was comfy but classy. Food was lovely, amuse bouche was delightful. Fillet steak was succulent and tender. Fair priced fine dining, and no compulsory service charge like similar establishments. We loved our evening, food and service so we left a tip. That's how it should be. Lovely five course visit-would return.
