Lovely cafe for bacon buns and tea. Lovely service and good food. You can use the cafe known as Poppy Tea Rooms without going into the museum, which we do every time we visit the area.

First time here and ordered regular fish and chips. Fish was nice but batter was very hard. Chips were lovely and the gravy was lovely too... Will definitely be coming back here but won't be ordering anything with batter on it 🤔

This is a hidden gem and an indicator of what could be done with what remain of some glorious old buildings in the old “shopping centre” of West Hartlepool, long since abandoned, destroyed or left to rot in favour of the what was the new (now much improved) shopping centre opposite the Grand Hotel. The Owl is warm and welcoming, over two floors. The ground floor in particular is very cosy and kind of intimate. In spite of lots of Eurofizz type lagers (sorry it’s just me: I am an ale drinker) I had an excellent Irish stout and ordered a burger, which I was told by the helpful young barman was very good. It was in fact excellent. I thought it was too much for me to eat even though I was hungry. But I paced myself and ate the lot, without feeling bloated. I also met the young chef at the bar on paying my tab and he was a self-effacing and charming young man by the name of Spencer who was grateful for my compliments on his cooking. All in all, a very pleasant experience and not at all what I expected just off the rather desolate remains of lower Church Street and the once elegant streets off it to the south. In two words: highly recommended. I have eaten in many funky little bars around the world and this is right up there. If only the elected governors of Hartlepool could learn from this place and make downtown Hartlepool a bit more like it used to be and less like a middle America drive through experience. Oh and the price was a pleasant surprise: only £24 for an excellent burger and two pints of stout.

Pure chance we called in here during dog walk combined with pub crawl around headland. What a great surprise and find. Staff were absolutely brilliant friendly and amazing. We all ordered food which you know was cooked to order as it was fresher than fresh. The half cod and chips was ordered by two people and it was perfectly cooked with the most amazing home cut and fried chips (none of Yr skinny fries these were big proper chips). The batter on the fish was nicely crispy and not soggy. I ordered a parmo which was delicious came with chips and salad as it was so nice I devoured it like there was no tomorrow. One toasties was ordered and yet again was delicious. Finally a chicken fajita was brought out and so tasty it didn't last long. We all had drinks and all commented on how overall the service was great friendly and couldn't ask for more. All so competitively priced we will be returning Thank you all at the Victoria Arms

This is an excellent bar situated on the Marina, serving meals, snacks, and drinks. The staff are friendly and very efficient and welcoming. The drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic) are reasonably priced and good value for money. The menu is limited, but offers a good choice of meals and sandwiches and snacks freshly prepared and all at competitive prices. A great place to visit at any time of day, you will not be disappointed.
