Food is always lovely no matter what you order and it’s cheap compared to other restaurants in the area. Defo recommend!

Herts Plaice in Hoddesdon is hands down the best fish and chip shop in the area! Every visit is a treat, thanks to their consistently delicious food and excellent customer service. The fish is always fresh and cooked to perfection with a crispy, golden batter that’s light and not greasy. The chips are equally impressive – thick-cut, fluffy on the inside, and perfectly seasoned. I recently tried their cod and chips, and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. They also offer a great variety of other seafood options, including perfectly cooked scampi and delicious fish cakes. Great food, good sized portions and reasonable prices, highly recommend

Never sure with a fish shop / kebab shop, but how wrong was I. Chips second to none, lovely, crispy outside, fluffy in the middle, tried both cod and haddock, both cooked to perfection and to order, great crisp batter. Kebabs are served fresh to order, and all varieties are bang on in both Flavour and portion size, all served with fresh salad and dips. Vegetarian options available.

Plenty of selection, as well as fish and chips ,there's pies,kebabs,chicken ,sausages etc etc , my regular piece of fish was the size of a small whale

Always go to herts plaice when visiting family when we are down from midlands. the Food is good and reasonably priced always friendly staff happy to help with any of your requirements.

Ordered doner kebab meat and chips. Meat was tasteless and put on top of chips which were then greasy. Avoid at all costs. Worst ever

Very disappointed , couple of times we have ordered it’s been no good , ordered tonight a mega burger but it come with no top bun. Always forget our drinks! Another time the kebab wasn’t very good We’ve been ordering with you for years and gone down hill.

Came in and ordered a Large chicken shish (£9), with lamb doner meat on top, with a sausage chips and beans for my partner. Whilst he was cooking the meat I asked him what meat it was as it looked like lamb and he had made an error. He then started arguing with me about what I had ordered before I insisted on what I had ordered. I explained to him that I had been coming in here for years and that the owner and other staff have never made a mistake or been this rude. Realising his error, he then agreed to disagree, and begrudgingly put a single stick of chicken shish onto the grill. I questioned this and said that I had ordered and just paid for a large to which he replied its two sticks for lamb, and just 1 for chicken which I know isn't correct due to being a long term past customer. Having already paid I had no option but to disagree and accept the shockingly poor service that I have received. I asked the server for his name, as I said I would speak to the owner, but he refused to give his name to me, hence the photo with this review. A REAL SHAME AS A LOYAL CUSTOMER, but I will definitely look elsewhere next time we fancy a kebab!

Was on my way to Istanbul Kebabs, so parked my truck outside Herts Plaice and thought I'd give it a go. Had a medium Donner Kebab with chilli and garlic sauce, and it'll be the last time I buy from here, absolutely tasteless. Wish I'd have tried the other kebab place.

Nice size portion, well packaged and reasonably priced

I had a large Doner and my dad had chicken and chips. No complaints, both meals were as you would want. Teeny gripe about waiting too long in the shop while they prepare meals for online orders, besides that, fine

I would rate this fish and chips as 2.5 stars. This was the closest fish and chips shop open on a Sunday. It was a big bit of fish but it was very oily. Chips were not freshly cooked and again oily like the food isn’t drained properly before serving. We had to ask for tissues, forks and sauces which you would expect to be offered. Price for two medium cod and chips was £13 however I would prefer to pay a little more and get better quality food.

Just has a takeaway, my chicken was over cooked and my pitta was hard and dry. Shame as never had an issue before!

Ordered at 7.15pm was told would be 45 to 60 mins. Didn’t arrive so after hour and 25mins rang and was told on its way. It’s was cold so we had to reheat it in microwave. Also some meat looked like it had been reheated was terrible and burnt. Such a shame as had one few month ago and was lovely

With lockdown currently, ordering delivery of a fish and chip meal from somewhere you’ve never been before is a little risk. However, I needn’t have worried as the service was prompt, the ordering via “Just Eat” was easy and the food very tasty. With the lockdown being extended- we now know where to go for future fish and chips.

Cod and chips are really good. Big piece of fish, nice batter. Not too greasy. Huge portion of chips too! Definitely recommend.

ordered food it took an hour to arrive after i was told it would only be 30 mins, when the delivery man arrived he gave me a price that i wasn’t told online so i had to rush and find loose change. once i got the food i realised my drinks weren’t even in the bag... i placed the chips down on my sofa (in the bag) and it left a huge oil stain on it! if i could give 0 stars i would :)

Long wait for food. Staff telling me ‘ok whatever’ and ‘it’s not my problem’ on the phone after ringing 4 times just to ask what time our family meal will Be arriving. Refusing to give me a refund after waiting nearly two hours. Refusing to give me his name. Refusing to tell me when the manager will be available to talk to. God awful service!!! Very frustrating!!!!!

A very busy takeaway in Hoddesdon and have been in operation for over 2 decades. Always going the extra mile to over deliver. They are an engaging team and very friendly. Quality food, massive portions and very cheap copared to all the other kebab shops!

When the "Captains" is not open the pop down to Herts Plaice where the fish is also good. There is also the kebabs to try.

I don’t normally leave reviews but this food was absolutely delicious, very fresh, very tasty and cheaper than the shop we usually use! Thank you for a excellent quality meal at a very reasonable price. Give them a try!!!

Top class kebabs and fish&chips good customer service and cheap price

Wouldn’t even give it 1 star. Went in to get a kebab, however it was the left overs and it looked greasy and fatty. So instead we ordered 2 sausage & chips. What can I say the chips were raw and had no taste. When I bit into my sausage a load of oil squirted out all over me. My friends sausage had loads of hard bits in it and it tasted horrible. Never going back again - really dissapointed as I really liked this place until this evening.

The kebabs are lovely but a little pricey for the size you get. I've notice you get a larger size if you go into the kebab shop rather than having it delivered.We have plenty of good kebab shops in our area so will go back to using Flames and George's for my kebabs and fish & chips.

Amazing food and customer service :)

Had sausage and chips. The worst chips EVER in my life. Awful, potatoes were black and hard !! Ugh. The staff did'nt seem to give a damn what they were serving to me or other customers. My one and only visit here

Rude staff, when I was asked "what do you want?" with his back to me, I didn't answer as I wasn't sure if it was me he was addressing or not. Fish was ok and chips were soggy.

The food ordered was disgusting. They said 30 minute wait and it took 50 on a mid week. I had chicken shish that was way over cooked, dry and some bits burnt. The chips were like rubber and freezing. Avoid at all cost.

Longevity = Credibility I have been going to Herts Plaice for many years now. Food is absolutely delicious and these guys are always generous with their portions. Perfect for a Friday night Takeaway!
