We had a great night celebrating our wedding anniversary at the Heron, we selected the 5 course tasting menu so inevitably some elements weren't quite to our taste but that is part of the experience.Its definitely worth a visit

Great food, great service - not to be missed if visiting the island

Been here a few times, and it is a great option for those that are gluten free as lots of choice. We took our children (over 11), both who were welcomed. The dishes were interesting and imaginative, and the meal enjoyed all round. It was great being on the entrance floor as the kids enjoyed seeing the kitchen at work too! Great food options, lots of choice, we had most of the dishes on the menu between us all of which was really different and tasty. The starters whilst small were a big hit too! Our server was excellent, attentive and knowledgeable.

Dined at 17.30 so the restaurant was fairly empty. Watching the chefs was the name of the game.

Great place with an amazing atmosphere, in both Heron and Heron lounge. Great idea to have a place to have a drink before/ after dinner :). The blind taster experience it’s definitely worth trying. Everyone was so welcoming and accommodating. Just beautiful and highly recommended :)

We really enjoyed our lunch of sharing plates, all of which were light, delicious and inventive, with tasty dressings or sauces. The service was friendly.

The food was of exceptional quality. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us. This really was a meal of a lifetime. I cannot express how exceptional and special this restaurant is. It is pitched perfectly slightly expensive but you get what you pay for.

Nice enough meal, just wasn't as outstanding as previous visits & felt a little underwhelmed., Portions were exceptionally small & just felt it wasn’t very good value & we were left a little disappointed

Went to Ryde simply to try this restaurant and wasn’t disappointed. The food is really exquisite. I really loved the small plate idea. I went with my daughter and we had 4 plates between us with a couple of extras. Then two gorgeous desserts. All the dishes were beautifully balanced and well thought out with great attention to detail. We sat near the open kitchen and nice conversation with the talented chef. Service was friendly and welcoming. We are still talking about it. I would strongly recommend a meal in this restaurant. I am only sad I will not have time on this holiday to go a second time.

Absolutely wonderful evening. Service was superb; attentive, friendly and not at all pretentious. The menu was exquisite and we tried a range of dishes, all of which we loved. Can definitely recommend the mackerel and the steak tartare. A really special night out.

A wonderful local venue serving outstanding food. On this occasion it was noticeable that serving portions were smaller than previously (we were informed that this was the case in advance of ordering) but we did feel that value for money was poorer as a consequence.

This place deserves it's 4.9 rating - perhaps even the illusive 5* !!!

Birthday dinner for 5 adults on Friday evening. We all really enjoyed our meals and the service was great. Mojito cocktails were superb.

We had the 7-course meal; service was excellent. Food was good but not quite at the level of 5 stars. If I visit IoW again, I might visit again but I would order from the menu.

Spent a week in IOW in the summer of 2022 and couldn’t for the life of me get good food - that is until the last night where I had the best meal I’ve come across in Britain thus far. Local produce and brilliant cooking, can not wait to visit again. Exceptional. Almost a year on and still reminiscing.

Chef and was kind approachable and obviously talented as was sous chef . food was wonderful staff courteous and professional I particularly went for scallops and salt baked cod (would be good if website updated across the board as menu had changed and they were not available )..but it was for us ,a rare and lovely treat to experience fine dining :-) .....so thankyoub

Excellent friendly service with great food. We had the wine-paired tasting menu and we could not choose a favourite dish as everything was very tasty. Stand-out was the morelle mushrooms and leeks, and the pork belly with chorizo jam. Highly recommended.

An excellent experience from start to finish, drinks in the lounge were excellent and served by polite and courteous staff. Restaurant experience was first class and would highly recommend. It is clear why they are so highly regarded.

Heron has one of the highest ratings I've seen in Google for anything, ever - last night 4 or us went to see just how good it is and I'm pleased to say it offers an absolutely excellent fine dining experience, right up there with many restaurants with Michelin stars and I've no hesitation in giving 5 stars. Great food, great service, not cheap but excellent value.

Sensational food, lovely atmosphere and particularly great service from our waitress, Lucy, who was delightful and appeared very knowledgeable when explaining the menu and wine pairings available. You can really tell that all of the staff are passionate about the food and the service they provide. Would recommend to anyone looking for a sophisticated, relaxing and simply enjoyable culinary experience.

Wonderful restaurant, lovely people, food and wine.

Scanning the menu, everything looked amazing and we struggled to decide, so we ended up going for the 7 course blind tasting menu plus wine pairing. The chef and sommelier picked courses for us, so each course was a surprise. Wine arrive first, which gave a clue what the course might be. Incredibly good value. If you know even a little bit about cooking, you understand how much work and love that has gone into every single dish. Innovative food and everything was perfection. Love that much of ingredients was sourced locally. I have coeliac disease and need to be on a strict gluten free diet. Gluten free items was marked in the menu, but the kitchen also made extra effort to avoid any cross contamination. It was a real treat to enjoy this feast without worrying. Professional and friendly service and we received everything like clockwork. Not sure how they managed to time everything so well. Can’t wait to come back!

Had another fantastic meal at The Heron last night. We were celebrating my Dad's 70th birthday and this was definitely the way to do that in style. As ever, the food was innovative, beautifully presented but lost importantly, everything tasted great. Particulalr highlights were the cep doughnut with aged cheddar custard and the onion chutney tartlets with rosary ash. It was great to see more chefs in the kitchen, which must be easing the workload on head chef Alex and also more serving staff alongside Laura. I remember that post-lockdown when the whole industry was crying out for staff, they told us they were struggling to recruit so its great to see that corner has been turned. The Heron is definitely leading the Island's culinary scene and I can't wait to go back again soon. Apologies for the poor photo quality, they were taken by my Dad on his ancient iPhone 🙄😊

Cannot describe this experience in words. The staff was beyond amazing, attention to detail was great. The food was something I had never experienced before. Even though I opted for a vegetarian tasting course the chef didn't disappoint. I was actually even more impressed how the chef could include so many different flavours in vegetarian dishes as I had never experienced this before. Once again would highly recommend to any one who is looking for a wonderful experience.

Excellent food. Service okay. Prices reasonable. Little selection of open wines (without information about the vintage). Tables on the ground floor are nicer than in the basement as there are no windows.

Had a wonderful meal last night - we did the chef's tasting menu and the combination of flavours and choices of wine to compliment each dish was phenomenal a truly amazing experience

Wow what an experience! The staff, the food and the chef were all impeccable. Friends of ours recommended we visit the restaurant and it did not disappoint. We fully intended to take photos of each course but they looked (and smelt) so delicious we couldn’t waste a second taking a snapshot. We did manage to get a picture with the owner/head chef though as a momento. We will definitely be returning to the Heron and will be passing on the recommendations to anyone on visiting the island. In particular the mini bone marrow burgers, miso roasted onions, sous vide pork belly, and the coconut and pineapple baked alaska. The cocktails are second to none also. Thank you for giving our tastebuds such an amazing experience. 🙏 Joe, Georgia and the boys.

We had the tasting menu with wine, which was hugely enjoyable and very good value. Our only minor quibble is that we'd have liked some potatoes with our lamb main course. The cooking was exemplary - we were at the chef's table - as was the service.

Never mind paying a few bucks for some good eats. Even as solo bites, you can tell their snacks are made by a chef with a passion for it. Nice drinks, well decorated and a good stop in town.

First time here. Recommend by friends and how right they were. Food was wonderful. Great to have a fine dinning restaurant in Ryde. Service was attentive but not fussy. £50 a head with drinks for three courses was excellent value for money. Great find will be visiting regularly would highly recommend.

Had a wonderful evening at The Heron Recommended by friends we were not disappointed. It exceeded our expectations and each course had the perfect amount to enjoy with delicious wine. Will definitely be back, if we can get in! Tip : Book well in advance.

Had the 7-course tasting menu and it was simply stunning. Catered amazingly well for my veggie wife too. Fantastic service, fantastic food, and fantastic place.

Lighting far too bright, staff require training in how to serve drinks, certainly didn't feel 'special', in fact, lacks ambience. Food was adequate, would have appreciated being told that ALL vegetables are additionally priced. Very poor selection of desserts. Bottle of wine in a bucketful of cold water does not constitute a chilled wine. Having made all the above comments, we do appreciate that the Heron is endeavouring to raise the standard of dining in Ryde and wish them well.

Absolutely stunning. Amazing food and actually compared to similar truly fancy chef led places I have been to this was actually very reasonable. After we put 13% service on for a starter, main and shared side dishes and a liqueur coffee each was about £43. Please book. Alex the Chef is wonderful and very friendly and the staff were magic

We found Heron to be underwhelming, the food was mostly underseasoned or just lacking flavour or balance. The menu is unstructured which is fine for a gimmick but you're left wondering with no real guidance on how much to order. Plating was attractive but that is where it ended. The desserts were the best bit but the atmosphere downstairs is not good at all - I wouldn't book or recommend here as the food was lackluster and again you may end up being sat downstairs. We were right by where the servers bar was and it was distracting having water pails filled up right by our heads and staff constantly chatting next to us (this is fine, its part of work - but there just shouldn't be a table right there, close this bit off to a servers area and not the public). Overall we found the experience underwhelming and uncomfortable. I have given 4 stars as the prices were reasonable and it may be a fault of alternative better experiences making this one so disappointing but anyone who has read this far is unlikely to be someone who would like to continually visit venues such as this. Would not recommend or return.

#mash potato, salad and asparagus, aka Worcester surprise. What a delight it was to spend the evening with Alex and the team. The amazing food was to die for, with a gin and sorbet sandwiching treats of meats. One of the best meals I've ever experienced. Will definitely be back.

The best experience we have had in a while. Right next to the chef who chatted to us whilst we ate and made us feel like we had our own private dining experience in his front room. Lovely couple who own The Heron and the food was exceptional, highly recommend the scotch quail egg and the Beef! Have fun at the wedding this weekend and a well earned rest

This is Ryde's serious restaurant, the chef serves excellent quality food, the waiting staff are very good. The location in Castle Street, may not be everybody's cup of tea. But ignore this and venture inside as you will be rewarded for sure. To run a successful and profitable restaurant requires a lot of talent and attention I think this restaurant is here to stay and will grow in reputation. As the old adage goes don't judge a book by it's cover.
