Delicious lunch. I had ham and cheese baguette. Crunchy bread and chunky ham. My friend had leek and potato soup which she said was wonderful with tasty fresh granary bread. The oatcake with cheese and onion was also highly rated. Loos were clean.

We called in here mid way through a walk. What a lovely cafe. It was quite busy at lunchtime but there is plenty of room and also dog friendly. We had a sausage cob and soup. Both were tasty. My husband said the sausages were 'proper sausages. The staff were also very friendly and there was a lovely ambience about the place. I would definitely recommend. Our two dogs also enjoyed it and there is doggy treats, 'puppacino'.

We called in while cycling the Tissington Trail. This is a fantastic, classic English Village with a gorgeous 17th century hall and fantastic church with the graves of the local FitzHerbert family going back to the early 1600’s. The tea rooms are part of the Tissington estate. Lovely food, (recommend the oatcakes with cheese and caramelised onions), good service and really nice atmosphere. Left feeling like we had reconnected with old England!

Really disappointed I love scones so opted for scone and coffee. No wonder they weren't out on display but kept in the kitchen. I expected a home made scone, what I got was a supermarket one, dry with an after taste. My husband, an ex baker, said if they had made them they were from a premix, ie just add water. If you are in the Ashbourne/ Tissington area I would recommend either Beaumont's or the Little Shed in Ashbourne for a selection of freshly baked scones. What a shame they let themselves down with bought in produce when scones are so cheap and easy to make. It's such a lovely placed tea room and deserves better

Loved this tea room. On the day we visited (2nd day of the well-dressings), it was very busy. Despite this, we managed to find a table for two then I queued. It was probably about 15 minutes. The staff were really cheerful and polite. The food was great I had a Derbyshire oatcake with cheese and caramelized onion which was served with salad, and my friend had a bacon bap also served with salad both were delicious and just enough to fortify us as we later walked around the village. We also had coffee and we were served quite quickly. We both enjoyed sitting in the quirky tea room admiring the decor, we noticed that tea was served in a selection of china teapots of different styles and I'd definitely have tea next time. We didn't sample cakes although they looked delicious, as we'd just purchased these from a pop-up Christian Aid tent. Although, we'd definitely have them on a future visit.

As usual, never disappointed with the quality of food and service at Herbert's. 4 of us had lunch today, the two men raved over their very generous portion of ham and eggs and we two girls revelled in our Derbyshire oat cakes with cheese and onion chutney. I recommended the latter to my friend and she was not disappointed! With a huge teapot of earl grey between us we were very happy bunnies! Highly recommended but make sure to book an inside table for the more discerning experience! :)

Arrived just before 10.30am to find a queue so we knew this place was popular - it was also a little chaotic! We got a table & then had to queue quite a while to put our order in. Husband came back with our drinks & about 5 minutes later my sons milkshake arrived (he said it was delicious). There was then a half hour wait for toast, crumpets & beans on toast. The food came with an apology for the wait. As we were eating, a waitress tried to bring us a scone we didn’t order. 5 minutes after this, a waiter tried to deliver another milkshake. On the way out we used the toilets - one with no soap, the other no toilet tissue. Tissington is a lovely place & the tea rooms could be something really special. The food & drink was good & the service okay. Just too many niggles & not sure we would return. Maybe we’ll try again in the future.

This is a nice location, especially when sat outside in a small quaint village. The staff were also very helpful. I found the food very tasty but overpriced. £7.50 for a bean burger with a bitnof relish and salad was too much. I could've understood slightly if it we were sat in the restaurant but that price was fir takeaway. Over £7 for a jacket with cheese and beans- again overpriced. There is no shortage of lovely places to eat in the Peaks and so I would look elsewhere as opposed to paying the prices here.

Having visited on our previous holiday in Derbyshire we were looking forward to returning to this lovely tearoom in the beautiful village of Tissington. It was a big dissapointment that not only was it just all outside seating, everything served in disposable containers, but the standard of service and food had gone down hill too.The restaurant isn't open at the moment, so it seemed only a limited menu was been offered on a blackboard outside. You go in to order and pay, then the food was brought out and they shout your name.We found it quite expensive to be honest, especially the bacon bap, considering it only had a small amount of bacon in it.There were a couple of kiosks outside too serving snacks and drinks. Not sure if we'd ever return here.Covid has changed how things used to be for many established places, this tea room obviously been one of them.

We stopped here for a drink on Sunday and to get some food for our friends daughter as she needed to eat. When asked what hot food was available we were told “stopped doing hot food at 3” by a young assistant. Which was understood as it was 3.30pm. So we asked for a sandwich, to then be told “we haven’t got any sandwiches”. We were then offered a sticky toffee pudding and custard (which was hot!!) so purchased that. However, there was a suited gentleman behind us, who also asked for a sandwich and was served no problem?? There was another young assistant that did offer to make a sandwich for us after this but by then it was too late. We felt discriminated against and undervalued as a customer. I would also argue the word “luxury” when describing the hot chocolate. Squirty cream, chocolate shavings and mini marshmallows on a hot chocolate made with water severed in a cardboard cup is not my idea of “luxury”

Visited several times. Great location and great building conversion. However, on yesterday visit it became apparent that front of house staff could do with some supervision. Ordered Tea and Cappuccino and two Toasted Teacakes, not sure the assistant was listening as too many friends distracting her. After paying I was asked, by a different assistant, four times what coffee I wanted. Sat outside and when Teacakes arrived there was only one. Teacake barely toasted. At that stage lost all hope and recognise discussing the issue would be wasting my breath..... someone needs to take charge, supervise, and train.

Visited twice in early June. Friendly, efficient service. Sausages in a bap slightly overdone but all other food and drinks well up to scratch. Large marquee ideal for sheltering from the rain, or in our case the sun. Disposable cups and styrene packaging (when eating outside) slightly off putting but understandable in these strange times. Plenty of free parking a two minute walk up the street. Pretty village with lovely cottages and impressive Hall. Lots of footpaths and the Tissington Trail offers gentle and scenic cycling. Understandably there were COVID compliant restrictions in place which created a small queue but we were soon served with hot drinks and cake by the lovely staff. We visited Herberts for a light lunch and were not disappointed. The Covid precautions were excellent and the service pleasant and welcoming. The carrot and coriander soup was the 'best I a ever tasted' said one of the group and the filled oat cakes delicious. So we decided to have a walk and return for tea and cake - what a let down! The service was good but the tea and cake was served in polystyrene which was completely unnecessary even though we had it outside. BUT the cake was inedible.I think it was wholesaler bought as it seemed to be made of concrete - we couldn't eat it. Surely in such a picturesque village there are many cooks who could produce home made produce far, far better than what was offered - give them a try! We would have given a five star but for this.

Not for the first time, this August whilst walking the “Tissington Trail” my wife and I visited these excellent tea rooms for, due to COVID 19, a very tasty takeaway lunch (Usually we sit inside this wonderful old Coach House). We were as always greeted by warm and welcoming smiles from the lovely ladies who run the place and who work so hard to keep their hungry customers happy and well fed. My wife and I sat on the grass outside and enjoyed delicious freshly made soup of the day and yummy Quiche. As a bonus, we thought the coffee was particularly good. “Herbert’s Fine English Tearooms” is our very favourite place to eat a hearty lunch in all of the glorious Peak District. Tea served in nasty takeaway cups and scones arrived in a polystyrene container. Not quite what we had in mind for a cream tea. If the pubs in Matlock and the cafes in Ashbourne can serve food on plates with proper knives and forks am at a bit of a loss as to why an establishment advertising itself as a fine tearoom resorts to cheap throwaway utensils. Disappointing and the price did not reflect the service nor ambience.

Popped in Herbert's for a coffee on Saturday 8th August. Ordered a Latte and Americano but both these were extremely bitter and tasted nasty so we asked for more milk. Sadly more milk didn't help. We left the drinks with the young waitress to dispose of and mentioned to her that these were undrinkable. She wished us a good day (bless her) but that was all so we left. It wasn't really possible to complain and perhaps recover the situation, the two young girls serving were very junior and any access to staff in general was difficult due to the COVID queue arrangement.Note that the COVID arrangements were good (one in and one out) but tables were not being cleaned when vacated as other establishments so be aware.

Fab location and lovely interior...but you have to queue up at the door to order (and the queue blocks access to the loo as people do not heed you wanting to get past without jumping into the queue). Remember to get your table number (and sit someone at it to hold onto it) before you queue otherwise they will not take your order after your wait. And wait you will. After about 10-20 minutes you depending on the numbers (average about 3 minutes per person) you get your tray of tea/coffee to take to your table. The food will follow eventually - when it arrives its minus cutlery. Guess what, you have to queue again to get your cutlery....and don't forget to ask for napkins otherwise you will be back and queueing again.

Attractive barn conversion in the centre of the village owned by ' the lord of the manor' who can often be seen helping to clear the tables. Decent food that some people obviously feel is expensive. Given the location in this beautiful popular village and the lack of competition it was never going to be cheap and I personally feel is reasonable value particullary bearing in mind that the parking close by is free. Tissington Trail and numerous walks close by so gets very busy at peak times. Good toilets but being picky don't feel the lighting is at all in keeping with the attractive building.

I visited the tea rooms last month after a leisurely walk along the trail. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was lovely, if a little over priced. On a recent trip to Rome I didn't even leave a restaurant as short changed as after Herbert's. The only downside to my trip was the broken cart outside. It seemed an act of wanton violence and the potential damage to the flowers made one shudder. It is all too common in this day and age with our remainer, commie youths. I will definitely return once we've taken back control over our country and our carts.

Given the extortionate price of their coffee, it's a shame they can't reinvest that capital in restoring the vintage cart out front that has been left in disrepair. Make carts great again. On the upside the staff were moderately attractive.

Parking available outside. Lovely setting. Good pricing. Good portion sizes. Good food selection. Friendly and helpful staff. Everywhere clean and tidy. Attractive dining area. Dog friendly. Outside seating available. Nice to see the cows and calf’s wandering around and horses trotting by. Seems to be popular with walkers and cyclists ♀️. A pleasant afternoon tea.

Good lunch had here of jacket potato with filling, plus lots of salad. The service takes a little while, mainly due to the time the coffee drinkers orders take to be made, but all in all a good place to stop for a light bite

We have visited Herberts Tearoom severak times during our regular visits to Tissington. The food and drink, and service are all particularly good. As you would expect in a tearoom, the fayre of Pattiseries is extra special, although the soup and light meals (baked potatoes, burger and salad) are also delightful. Our most recent visit was during Well Dressing week which was comparatively cool. They had set up a large marquee to accommodate more people - but the service and food was up to their usual high standard.

Great tea rooms in nice village. Reasonable prices, good portions and pretty quick. Range of hot food including breakfasts up to 11.30 and afternoon teas. Only fault was it was a bit cold with people keeping their coats on.

We had beautiful weather the weekend we camped in Ashbourne and so were able to sit outside and admire the beautiful scenery. The tearooms were clean, had an excellent variety of food on offer and despite being very busy, the service was polite and speedy. In fact, it was so good, we visited the next day for lunch which was equally delicious.

Lovely tea room with a warm feel to the place, lovely layout. Great idea about the unisex Toilets and very clean.(keep up the good work with the toilets) Service was excellent and staff professionally turned out. My friend asked for an espresso short, that foxed her but said she was new and immediately got help. All staff lovely. The lemon cake was excellent.

Very characterful cafe, great location and views. Our lunch was high quality and home cooked. Lots room inside and IF the weather had been better there was the option of sitting outside.

The tea rooms are right on the village green in Tissington with parking at the roadside right outside. They’re in what looks like an old farm building or barn, attractively modernised with big floor length windows looking out onto the green and the church. Good coffee and excellent cakes - we had the lemon drizzle cake and some super-rich millionaire’s shortbread - and friendly service. It’s a really busy place, and its popularity with cyclists is always a good sign. One to return to .

Visited after a bike ride and ordered some take away baps and drinks. The food was very nice but I was shocked at how much they charge. £5.75 for a sausage cob! My coffee was fairly priced at £2.50 but the can of coke £1.80.

I have visited Herbert’s in family holidays for 15+ years and it has been consistently good. Set in the beautiful village of Tissington, it is the perfect location for a spot of lunch or cup of tea. Service is prompt and efficient, the selection of food on offer is wide for a tearoom, all of their teas are loose leaf and pots are generous.

Beautifully decorated with blazing log fires and a welcome to match, this pub is probably the best in the area. Great menu at realistic prices and unsurpassed quality and presentation - what’s not to like. We could not fault anything - thanks to all the staff for a wonderful evening.

The food was dreadful and expensive. Can’t say it any plainer. Schnitzel was burnt and poorly presented. Pasted was soggy. The very worst was the waffles which had been microwaved and were solid! Just the two us for a birthday meal with one drink each and it cost £91!

Superb Al fresco breakfast in a lovely courtyard right in the heart of this ancient historic village. Quality of ingredients was superb, the tea was delicious and the environment was delightful. I would heartily recommend
