Came in on a sunny afternoon for an iced coffee, only to be told they had ran out of ice and they had no cold drink cups to take out? How is this possible!!! Thought I would settle for a regular latte, clearly not their fault, sat down and realised I had made a fatal mistake. It was BOILING in there. How do you let your staff work in this heat???? It’s inhumane! AC vents on the ceiling but no feeling of cold air coming out, and one small fan next to the coffee machine where the barista was standing. The baristas were visibly exhausted and overheated, and not one of them looked happy to be there. Management sort it out!!!!!

It’s like going back to the 1970s in terms of customer service! I went in on a Friday afternoon. Most tables were filled with dirty cups and plates from previous customers. The two girls working there seemed more interested in chatting between themselves and with a friend who had come in. They weren’t the slightest bit interested in their work. The cafe was filthy overall . A place best avoided.

This cafe is absolutely filthy. We go there often just for the location and to have a coffee outside. We know to use napkins on the table as it is always dirty. We would never eat there except for a coffee. We watched a staff member clean pigeon poo off a table then proceed to wipe other tables with the same cloth that she cleaned the pigeon poo off. The tables are rarely cleared, as a result they are always covered in pigeons and seagulls. I’ve also watched tables being cleared and not washed. The ground is filthy, and don’t even get me started on the ladies toilet. Again filthy. It is such a shame as it is in a prime location but unfortunately the staff are not trained. A pity it was not bought by a chain that has strict hygiene and training protocols in place.

Asked for espresso macchiato. Not sure how to describe what I got. Milky coffee with a thin film of milky scum on top. Not pleasant at all

I moved out of Dundee but I always make a point by coming back to Henry’s whenever I’m there to visit as I’ve learned to love the place; staff were always welcoming and helpful and not to mention that the coffees are great! I can’t help but to rate my first visit since 2 years ago low stars as I’ve noticed a complete flip with staff. The level of professionalism with some of these baristas were appauling! I’m not one to nitpick however I know for a fact it is not normal for a staff to be sat in a counter swinging her feet while eating cake infront of all the customers to see! I was genuinely confused to why she thought this was acceptable? Adding to this, I came back for a quick coffee the next day to give Henry’s another chance to be greeted with a frown. I had asked for a latte and got a reply of a very blunt “what size? She looked at me as if forgetting to mention which size my coffee was such a nuisance. It was about 9:30 on a wednesday morning so I was confused to why this certain barista was already miserable after only being open for an hour an a half. These two visits made me completely change my mind about henry’s as the staff would make my wee visits a great experience but for some reason these newer staff are just plain miserable and unprofessional. Hope the owners really take the time and sort out their employees as I would think I’m not the only one who enjoys talking to servers but these baristas are just downright unpleasant and unapproachable! It’s a shame to have experience this as it was tradition for me to come to Henry’s whenever I travel back to Dundee.

Visited for the first time today to get out of the rain. Despite being busy, service was quick and girl on the till was very friendly. She gave some good advice on where to get something to eat later on in the day as I am not local.

Used the toilets (female) while were there as customers. This was at 10 o'clock on a Saturday morning so obviously had only been open for a short time. The toilets were disgusting, the hand dryer was hopeless, no air to dry hands coming out of it. If this is the state of the toilets I would dread to think what's behind closed doors. Thankfully we had just ordered coffee & not anything to eat.

An average coffee house. Better than any of the bigger chains. Didn’t have the feel of an independent but good none the less. Staff were lovely with my granddaughter

We were in Dundee for a couple of days and were due to have dinner at our hotel that evening so all we wanted for lunch was something light. My wife had a bowl of what she told me was very tasty soup while I had a BBQ chicken panini. We also had a coffee each. These filled the gap and prices were reasonable.

I was in town today on some business and decided to have lunch here. I had a bowl of soup which was Chowder and Red Pepper and it was very nice indeed. Also had a coffee and a slice of carrot cake. I recommend this cafe to anyone visiting the Dundee area. The staff were also friendly and polite. I have previously been once before although that was Pre-Pandemic so 5+ years ago but I will almost certainly be back in the future

Stopped in here for a quick lunch whilst on a trip to Dundee. I got the Italian Bagel and it was amazing. Both my friends got paninis, which they both enjoyed too. Slightly pricey but would recommend!

Down from Aberdeen for the day and fancied a little bit of lunch, Henry's Coffee House is in the centre of Dundee and makes a perfect location for lunch or afternoon tea. They have a wide variety of sandwiches, paninis and pastries, all freshly made and tastes delicious. I had the chicken mayo & cheese toastie which could of done with an extra minute in the grill but still tasted great. Coffee is lovely, with lots of options Mocha, Cappuccino, Latte, Americano and not forgetting Tea. Staff are really friendly and willing to help, lots of comfy seats and a lovely cosy atmosphere. Highly recommend Henrys Coffee House!

. . . a bright sunny morning, a beautiful location in the square; delightful welcome from the young staff. We enjoyed coffee and bagel. The cake counter was so enticing but I have to refrain as it goes straight to my hips, but I recommend that you do! I will return as I'd also like to sit outside with a coffee and people watch.

Staff were lovely and friendly. Tea was nice, coffee could have been hotter. There wasn't a lot of egg filling in the egg salad sandwich, it was mostly cucumber (which I personally hate). Sandwich was a disappointment.

This place has quickly become my regular for hot chocolates and baked goods - Deborah and Rami made a great team today with a spot on Tiramisu chocolate (best in the city), soup, and blondie, in the middle of a chocablock lunchtime.

Very pleasant vibe in this place, the coffee was good but the homemade cake was better, reminded me of my mom's baking when I was a kid. Service was good and the staff were friendly, all round good experience!

Great for a quick stopover. Good service too. Plenty of coffee and cakes to choose from. Their peanut butter stack and the Seville orange slice were delish 😋. For those who don't really like coffee, their mango and passion fruit crush was very refreshing.

So people are asking why this place closed, as it's quite rightly got great reviews for staff service, food, coffee, and general vibe. This was my favourite spot to have a quiet coffee or meet people for a light lunch in Dundee. Basically, the story is that the owner shafted a pregnant employee the day after she went on maternity. He "fired" her and refused to pay her maternity. The staff, having apparently been paid not that great already which is testament to their professionalism given the quality of service, walked out in protest. This was late Spring when the hospitality industry seemingly had ten job vacancies for every candidate, so they rapidly just found other work and Birchwood's workforce simply evaporated overnight. Word got out on Facebook and, especially given the prices, ignited a general boycott of the place through the outrage. I'm unsure if the employee ever did get her *legally required* maternity pay. The last that was being said was that the owner had not only blocked her number, but also HMRC's! A lesson in how a lovely place can come crashing down through the sheer greed of its owner.

Ordered the breaded haddock and chips, worst meal ina longtime, especially as it was not cheap and looked like a half portion.was overcooked and dry, peas were cold ,chips were under fish to make it look a lot.my friend ordered soup and sandwiches which were terribly sparse of filling, brown bread was cheap.Al lin all pretty rebbish, won't be back

Ordered from the light lunch menu mackerel and pine nuts. A small fish on a tiny piece of bread with a lot of lettuce and a few half tomatoes. At over £10 it was very overpriced. Wish I'd stuck to my usual fishcakes.
