Sorry to rate as just OK as food really great, but service crap, partner had his lunch delivered, ate, drank his coffee & sat there even before pizza delivered. Really awkward trying to rush eating whilst he sat staring at me need to sort this out. Wasn't the only table this happened with - make sure you order same items!

Visited on a busy day.... large dining area with lots of tables under shelter. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options available. Staff had obviously been busy as many tables were not cleared. The previous diner had even left their water flask on my table, so I handed it in. I had what was misleadingly called a Big Plate for £11 consisting of Roasted Courgette Panzanella Salad. It was not a generous portion at all and had a lot of croutons on. I was underwhelmed when it arrived and was left wishing I had ordered something else. It was meant to have heritage tomato, onion, basil, croutons and lemon and dill yoghurt. It was void of anything resembling an onion, so back I went to the counter. The young bloke just looked blank. It was sloppy service, almost like couldn't be bothered attitude. Quite some time later a waitress brought a plate of red onions for me to add. It did not fill me up as a meal and was overpriced for what was in the small bowl. Wouldn't choose to eat here again, nahh. If you're charging £11 for a small salad plate with missing ingredients does not make for repeat custom.

Breakfast was good but the full English breakfast @ £13.00 add in a coffee £16.50, not great value for money.

Wow. The Ploughman's is shocking. A single slice of bread cut in half. A single thin slice of roast beef (you'd even get a better sized slice in Aldi). Two pieces of cheese. A teaspoon of pickle (apparently pickle is rationed - as there was barely enough to cover a single half slice of bread) But the lettuce...oooh....if you love lettuce, you're in luck. 2/3 of the plate is covered in cheap lettuce. Apparently, they think the customer is stupid enough to be deceived into thinking this is a good lunch by masses of lettuce. £15. Yup, £15 for all this. You'd get more roast beef and bread in a Tesco bargin sandwich, and for a faction of the price. The fact that they are so tight that they even skimp on the pickle is the most insulting part of this abomination of a Ploughman's. Squeezing as much money as possible out of customers is clearly the main aim of this restaurant.

Menu looked nice but decided not to eat as on entering the cafe we found the majority of tables were full of dirty dishes. Was not clean so left. Such a shame.

We ordered a very expensive cheese toastie and a scrambled egg on toast. The egg was slimy and didn't taste like egg it was very odd and not edible. My husbands toastie was okay but very little for the money. The hot chocolate was awful as well . The actual gardens were amazing but don't eat there!

Table booked for 6 friends to have a festive lunch together. We have been coming here every Christmas for a few years. We were all looking forward to it. On arrival we were shown to our table which was reserved and had reserved on it. We noticed our table had not been set properly as had no water and no pots of chutneys but all the other tables did. We were waiting for one more friend but no-one asked us if we wanted a drink. Once the friend arrived we were still left sitting and sitting so in the end after approx half an hour had passed I went out and politely informed the waitress we were ready so could someone come and take our order. She grabbed a pad and pen but didn't smile and appeared that this was too much trouble. She did reluctantly take a order but she was not happy and when my friend asked if we could have some water and also asked if we were having some pots of chutney she was very abrupt and not very nice. She went off to the counter and I seen her through the window telling her colleague all about it.. me and my friends couldn't quite believe her offish attitude but we all agreed it was not going to upset our get together. Another waitress came with our drinks and we asked her if we could have her as our waitress as the other one was very rude. This waitress was lovely and nothing was too much trouble and she looked after us well even though she was run off her feet she was great ( I think her name was Jen??) The food was ok, not as good as other years.. the soup was lovely but we had to ask for butter. My beef stroganoff was all rice with hardly any stroganoff and the beef was very dry on top. My friends roast was luke warm and there was a mix up with the gluten free meal and dessert. Christmas pudding was delicious but the poached pear was hard. This was not a cheap meal £30 for 3 courses.. I went to the Alverton today and had 3 courses for £28 and the food and service was excellent. Perhaps I could suggest that some of the waitresses need some training as to how to look after customers.

I highly recommend this restaurant at the entrance to the gardens! We went there after our visit and had a great lunch, and for once, lots of fresh vegetables! Fresh, green, vegetables straight from the garden, well prepared, it was excellent! Special mention to the beet and goat cheese salad. There are plenty of choices for vegetarians. The lunch areas are also very diverse, ranging from the large terrace under pergola, to the winter terrace and the interior, decorated with care, especially in this autumn period!

Food (ploughman's, tomato soup) was average and not the best priced. You're paying for the convenience of eating right by the gardens.

I really enjoyed my visit to Heligan Kitchen. The menu had a range of vegetarian options and was served quickly. Particularly impressed with the accessibility: the tables were spaced sufficiently to walk with a wheelchair or pushchair between (this was also consistent with the gift shop).

As local we have dined many times at Heligan. We’ve enjoyed their Christmas menu,Sunday roasts and many lunches but today was very disappointing. The value for money was very poor. Sorry Heligan won’t be returning

We arrived at 11.28am hoping to buy breakfast, which according to the menu is served until 11.30. We appreciated that we were late but we’re told that breakfast finished at 11.00. No apologies from the staff. Really disappointing.

We have coffee and cakes here most weekends as a way for our large family to get together. While the service has been brilliant every week by young, enthusiastic staff. However on our visit on Sunday 23rd October we were met by a very abrupt and rude older woman. Telling us that she hadn't cleaned the table we were about to sit on and banging reserved on the table we moved to. As we ate she continued getting ready for the Sunday lunch customers. It made us feel uncomfortable and we rushed down our coffee's and cakes. Shame as up to then it's always been such a pleasant experience. The cakes continue to be good. I guess there's always one bad egg!

Far more than you expect, the food is the best meal I have had in a very long time. This place is absolutely clean, the staff are top class (5/5) in every aspect. No idea where they got this high standard from, everyone is friendly, calm and very happy it seems. The food that comes out that kitchen is outstanding. Very tasty, very beautiful presented and perfect in price value balanced. Never ever let the kitchen crew go, it's very rare that literally everything is perfect, but here it is. We will definitely come back and try the BBQ place out. We had the soup of the day (mushroom & miton) very nice taste, perfect amount, the bread on side was like grandma's homemade bread. A side of potatoes (mixed potatoes sweet and normal potatoes) And a burger with Salat, the burger was definitely the best pulled pork burger I have had, the bread again fantastic. We tried as well 2 cakes carrot cake and velvet cake, both not too dry and you could taste it was not industrial cake.

Literally the shiftiest food you can find in Britain. Soup of the day had no taste. We were told the sausage roll was served hot it came cold from the fridge. There is no protein on the menu expect for unhealthy stuff (sausage and cured meats). They serve eggs only at breakfast. Change menu pls… or ppl come out of your restaurant starving

Sunday lunch today was its usual top quality. Such a treat. We spoke to other diners who all agreed it was lovely. Certainly the best Sunday Lunch we have tasted. The staff are all attentive and willing to help if necessary. We were met be Jordan who was charming and showed us to our table, and have us extra information on the menu. Looking forward to eating there again.

Had lunch at the Heligan kitchen today. Thought it was very underwhelming and overpriced. Portions were on the small side and definitely not worth £11. For this price I’d expect the Dahl to come with rice or some sort of bread. We had to wait around 40 mins which the server apologised for, stating they had to cook a fresh batch. The Dahl itself was fairly tasty but there just wasn’t enough of it and the battered cauliflower/pakora on top was unfortunately undercooked, even after having to wait. My partner’s dad’s mac n cheese was also a small portion but at least his was served with bread! Will be bringing a pack lunch next time.

Nice simple layout, good use of natural light. We both had Sunday roast and thought it was very nice and the Vegas sure taste fresh as it was from its own vegetable garden. Decent priced. Coffee and teas were good. If you’re lucky, you would be getting local bee visitors who would like to dine with you.

Wish i had been here before, just tried on the last night of stay and I have to say it was all good, taste was very good, portions are plenty, prices are very reasonable. We tried doner, lamb kebab and chicken kebab and I have to say all was very yummy, the chicken kebab was probably one of the best i have tried in the UK. So tender. Thanks for everything, it was a very good meal for me and my husband👏

Beautiful building. Amanda the barmaid/waitress was very helpful and friendly. My family had the ham egg and chips, which was outstanding. I had fish and chips, the fish was delicious and fresh. The puddings were sinful and beautifully made.

Went for a coffee and was told could only have take away as it was 15:40 on a Sunday, my wife and I are both disabled and I have an ostomy and asked to use the loo and was told I could only if I buy something, so it cost me 7 quid for two takeaway coffees just to use the loo....thanks national trust
