excellent worth a visit and very handy for the shops as well, with the gateway being close call in for a munch

We spent a weekend at Smiths up the road, and so quite a few of us spent the evening here eating and drinking. Good value food and a really big bar area. It was nice that one side had a pool table and juke box and lots of locals were in there, which was nice. A big outside seating area, which was lovely in July.

Very good service from an energetic and helpful lass. Ample amount of food with the opportunity for more toast etc

Me and my family visited the hazeldean hotel for a wedding anniversary meal after a small ceremony at the famous anvil workshop. The food was delicious and the staff were great namely aimee,Gemma,Angela,zack and Robert who went above and beyond to make our day so special. Giving us extra food which we didn't even ask for. Really would love to go back.

arrived early in the day on our way to Hadrians wall, really only a loo stop, such a pleasant surprise to be greeted so welcomingly, coffee was lovely, spotlessly clean bar,only downside we were too early for lunch, will try again

Called in for dinner whilst heading south, well worth pulling of motorway for, greeted by Robert and served by Robert and Amy 1st class. Steak Pie was the best ever, we will be back.

Nice friendly service food not so good had chicken in garlic and mushroom sauce with chips not very tasty .

Menu was small which I like. I believe a small menu shows that it has been homecooked fresh rather than frozen.Had pie and it was beautiful. The chips were nice, chunky home made chips. asked for more gravy and the staff obliged. we are not from the area, we stopped half way into our 4 hour journey.

Truly awful. Hopelessly disorganised.Slowest ever service.Food not bad but didn't warrant the one hour 20 minute wait.It wasn't exactly complicated cuisine.The bar next door was full of rowdy drunks.

Comfortable, friendly pub/restaurant. Reasonable selection of tasty meals at a reasonable price. Helpful staff and good service. On the negative side, the selection of beers is poor, but the Amstel is acceptable. Just a short walk from the famous Blacksmith's shop.

We were visiting Gretna Green looking at where my fiance and I would like to marry next aug 3rd,2019, We had a lovely walk and visited a local pub who didn't serve food, we asked for a recommendation and they said The Hazeldene had a good food menu.... so off we went arriving around 7pm... there was a wedding celebration meal going on ...the atmosphere was lovely and friendly...the locals were friendly ....the staff were attentive, funny, and accomadating.(I'm a really fussy eater)...The long and short after visiting all localwedding venues we have chosen too stay at Hazeldene for several days and have our meal, reception and a few days stay ....

We came here to eat and drink last weekend on our visit to Gretna Green the day before a wedding. Our hotel couldn't fit us all in to eat together so when we stumbled upon this place we had to venture in. The food was fantastic. They catered for about 15 of us (we hadn't booked) and it was no problem to them at all. They put up with us being more than a little rowdy and ended up joining in dancing with us by the end of the night. Thank you for your hospitality Hazeldene you started our weekend off perfectly.

We visited Hazeldene as it was located next to the place we were staying. I wasn't bowled over by the food for sure, but as far as pub grub goes, it wasn't bad. We had the mixed grill and the grilled chicken with garlic and mushroom sauce. The chicken was definitely better than the mixed grill. The mixed grill was missing some of the things that it should have come with like the onion rings and mushrooms which we brought to the attention of staff and they said they would do better next time...of course there won't be a next time for us as we're only here for one night! But anyway, it was all ok and tasted fine. The staff were a bit slow and maybe not the most attentive, but they were friendly enough. All in all, this place is good if you are hungry and want to get a decent portion of food for a reasonable price...but the food won't exactly leave a lasting impression!

My sister and here visited here on the way up to the Edinburgh Tattoo. It was recommended by a lady at the Gretna shopping village. It isn't 'posh' but it is good pub food and is very good value for money.

Tasty food at reasonable prices and attractively presented. Service is a bit on the slow side, which didn't matter to us because we weren't in a hurry.

Arrived on Sunday staying at the Mill , came here for our evening meal as it’s fantastic home cooked food which is great value, three of us had Fish and Chip ... wow they were massive and lovely, my daughter had the burger which she really enjoyed too, all the kids had chicken nuggets but not the horrible cheap ones, but home made ones made from really pieces of chicken all home cooked also home cooked chips they were to die for, prices were brilliant. When we are back up in Gretna we will be eating here again, well done to all the staff

Had an evening meal well cooked and well presented.Drinks were reasonably priced and as a beer drinker good for a keg bitter. This also does rooms if you wish to stay.

My mum was very keen on coming to the Hazeldene for dinner because she had heard it had changed hands and had mproved greatly since. I can only say I am glad I hadn’t visited previously. My mum had chicken swimming in a gloopy near tasteless sauce (to be fair she enjoyed it - I tried it and struggled to understand what she did like - I think she liked the fact it was a big portion). I had the grandly titled ‘Balmoral Chicken’ which was supposed to have a whisky sauce. I think it was the same sauce as the gloopy chicken with half a spoon of mustard in it. There was certainly no hint of whisky. Another family member had fajitas which were very greasy. The cheese which accompanied them was warm and tasteless.

We were staying at the Anvil View Guest House next door and popped in to this restaurant for dinner. Initially it was hard to get attention as there seemed to be only one person operating the bar and waiting tables. Anyhoo we ordered the two courses for £12,95 which is available until 19:00. The menu said a choice of two soups but they had only one- lentil with ham so we had that. The soup was delicious, hot and plenty of it served with two chunks of bread with butter. We also ordered the pink gin cocktail which was really good as it was loaded with frozen fruits of the Forrest! The steak pie with chips and peas as was advertised came with green beans instead of peas - I hate green beans! However the pie was very tasty with melt-in-the -mouth steak with no fat or gristle. The chips were real chips cooked from scratch and again were delicious. We had no room for desert after that. Portions really are very generous here. There is plenty of car parking available on site and the toilets were clean and fresh smelling. All in all a very pleasant dining experience - recommended.

Ate there a few times recently. It’s local and we find the service to be exceptional, especially from Molly who is becoming me and my wife’s favourite waitress. She always so helpful and nothings a trouble.

The food at the Hazeldene has been very good of late. We’ve enjoyed some lovely, well cooked and presented pub food. I love being served by Molly. She’s always so helpful and pleasant. It makes all the difference and staff like her make me want to go back.

My husband and I arrived at this restaurant, Bank holiday Sunday evening at 7pm the bar area had a few people standing having a drink, in the dining room there two people at window table having a drink and another table of 10 with menus, all other tables were empty,when we approached the bar a very abrupt young lady shouted to us Have you booked ,,,, we said no, the same young lady said we can’t take you.....no apology or if you have a drink we will be with you shortly nothing, so guess what we won’t be back, went along to solway lodge it was very very busy but they accommodate us at a table.Not many businesses now a days can turn people away

Fantastic food. Had a chicken and bacon burger, was the size of a small plate served with excellent fresh home made chips onion rings. Would definitely come back if ever in the area.

A friendly place with nice ambiance. The haggis fritters were particularly excellent. Good value drinks and food.

Six of us arrived at the Hazeldene after a long drive up from Cardiff and arrived here at what was perilously close to the "chef's" finishing time. However; it was not a problem at all and Alun Yates the chef mustered up our order with enthusiasm. There was 4 different meals to be prepared between the 6 of us and we were expecting a bit of a wait. We didn't have to wait long for our food. The 2 steaks were enormous and very tasty. The 2 Tagliatelle Carbonara were wholesome and delicious. Only shame is that its 300 miles from home otherwise I'd go there a lot more often.

Brilliant ambience, great team which seems to be led by Robert, had the Steak Pie and its among the best ever tasted.

We visited for lunch after shopping at the outlet village. We were seated upon entering and drink order taken. I had the spicy veggie burger, my other half had the Hunter chicken and my mum had the fish and chips. My other half and I really enjoyed ours though my mum was not quite as keen on the fish. Overall I would recommend

My wife and I recently had lunch here whilst on a coach trip. Having seen the rip off prices for food at the Gretna Green complex where the coaches park up we decided to check out this pub which was only 100yds down the road. It is a modern pub / hotel which serves a good selection of pub grub at very reasonable prices. It is nicely furnished with comfortable seating. Staff are friendly and polite. Food was good, especially the chips. Would definitely return.

We stayed overnight to do our love lock at the famous blacksmiths just alone the road. We arrived early and our room was ready. We were in room 10 which is above the restaurant at the front of the building. Our room was very nice. Towels and toiletries were provided as well as tea coffee and hot chocolate . Bed very comfortable. We had lunch on arrival the steak pie was delicious and my hubby loved the fish and chips. We had macaroni cheese and chicken burger for dinner . Breakfast is served from 8 am in the morning lots of choice for cereals juices toast and you can choose 6 items for cooked breakfast. Had read previous reviews of it being noisy at weekends but we stayed on Friday night and didn't hear anything

Visited recently with family and new family. A strange mix of noisy bar and quiet (even on a saturday) eating room. The claim of the best Lasagne outside Italy was sadly misplaced. It was ok, no more than that. The service was not up to scratch but the poor girl had only just started and lacked direction.

Absolutely brilliant service and food would definitely recommend to anyone who is in the Gretna area

The menu at the Hazeldene is comprehensive with a great selection to suit most tastes and choices. It's good, hearty food with a Scots twist and they used local produce which is commendable. Portions are generous, well presented and most of all delicious. Also their prices are very reasonable and won't break the bank. They cater for families as well as adults and it's not fancy, but that's also part of its charm. Service was impeccable too. If you're staying at the hotel or just passing through Gretna, I'd recommend eating here.

We visited this establishment upon the recommendation of a receptionist at the Days Inn, Gretna Green, but was one of the worst pubs we have ever visited. Not only was the food particularly poor but the foul mouthed clientele drinking at the bar was totally unacceptable and unbelievable. How the management could let this continue without intervention is beyond belief. This could explain why the music was so loud and was more like a disco than a pub atmosphere. We will definitely not be returning!

Good food good menu. Nice to have a quiet corner to eat in a quite busy restuarant . Service was prompt.

Visited night before our wedding and was sad to experience a level of service which deteriorated as the evening went on, food which hardly resembled the menu description, meals which were just incorrect from what was ordered, a tray of drinks spilt all over the table and some very new trainers (ok, that happens and is an accident) and finally to add insult to injury we were given the bill whilst I was still eating.

I know you can't really moan about cheap food if it's not great but just because it's cheaper doesn't mean it should be sub standard. They have a lot of very reasonably priced meals on the menu and some of these are very nice. Asked what sandwiches they had and was advised I could have anything I wanted. I asked for prawns Marie Rose (a very popular sandwich choice) but was told this was not available. Go figure!!! Went for a cheese & ham toastie and it was average at best. Also, never seen baked potato and beans served on a chopping board before. Made for very difficult eating. If you want a nice cheap meal then perfect....just don't expect greatness.

This is the second time of eating in the Hazeldene Resturant and pub, we also stayed for one night in 2016.

Arrived late evening for a meal as it looked really nice from the outside.

Pub offering good quality and good priced meals. Myself and my wife had a starter to share a main and shared pudding. Had two drinks and a whiskey also and it was £38. Staff were friendly and helpful also. Would recommend .

Rude and very poor food for the price really disappointed frozen mash raw chips poor portion size plus staff really shouldn't discuss customers in earshot

We visited when we got married at Gretna Green, and wished that we had stayed here as well, it is very warm and welcoming. We have already booked in here for our next visit to Gretna Green.

We were staying in smiths hotel and dined there on the first night of our stay.We were not impressed with there value for money so decided to try the hazeldene the next night. The staff were all very friendly and efficient and the food was excellent.my wife even commented that her crispy beef starter was the best she ever had. I see the to die for burger which I couldn't finish as it was so much eating. For a 2 course meal with drinks it was under £40 which was half what we spent the previous evening in smiths for a meal which was nowhere near as good

We booked this at less than 24 hours notice to see if they could accommodate our small wedding party. When we arrived they had decorated the table and it looked great. It really topped off our lovely wedding. We had the Indian buffet and it was delicious. The service was impeccable and we would recommend this to anyone who wants a good meal with great hospitality.

We were in Gretna for a wedding staying at Smiths as we were eating there after the wedding we were looking for somewhere else to eat.We are so glad that we chose this place and cannot recommend it enough.

I really couldn't wait to write a review of this place. To my own eye, I really didn't fancy this at all! I just didn't like the look of it, but the husband insisted. When we went inside it was packed and it was bookings only!!! Initially they said they couldn't fit us in but then an older waiter did a little jiggery pokery and then said they could fit us in. I was already impressed! They gave us a table, treated us like they had known us forever and totally won me. I am all about customer service and these guys had it down to a 'T'! Food was amazing, nicely presented and plenty of it. The staff were just lovely and I really want to give a special note to the 'older' member of staff (I say older as he was older than the others!!) He had that 'air' of gravitas, checking we were ok, checking that the food was right... I am still impressed today with their services. I would really recommend this place to anyone visiting Gretna. It looks like nothing special outside - but all the good stuff is inside!

While staying at the hotel had a meal in the restaurant. The food was lovely, could not fault it. Only downside is the noise that comes from the bar.

Why not staying for dinner? as we staying at this hotel is so convenient for us, and we got a very friendly and fast service, if you check their menus online it all good. They serve dinner till 9 pm or something so we got our dinner before the kitchen closed. It sounds Scottish on the menu and we're anxious of what we got on our plate
