Just popped in for coffee and a soft drink with my daughter. Then got chatting to others. Coffee was lovely, and we felt welcome, even after we finished our drinks.

Little cafe with bakery. The almond frangipane tart was made with lard which is not my taste for a sweet cake. The coffee was served with cold milk in thick cups, unfortunately it was almost cold. The seating is a bit hippy style and rustic. Bit on the expensive side for what is is.

Prompt and efficient staff. Impeccable place. Amazing products. Bread is the best you can get in Haxby, and somewhere top 3 in York. A generous cheese toast, it was wonderful. Chocolate au pain brought me flashbacks from France, it was perfect. Cinnamon rolls-too much sugar sprinkled but other than that delicious.

The Bakehouse is the highlight of Haxby, I am lucky enough to live in the village so I buy all my bread and treats here and it's a great deli too. They deliver every time, I have never been disappointed. We are incredibly lucky to have them, thanks to Tina and the team!

Coffee and croissant really nice. However have been here twice now and felt uncomfortable on both occasions. Staff abrupt and rude, seems to have this ‘high class’ opinion of itself and if your face doesn’t fit they make it known. Despite advertising themselves as a dog friendly establishment I was quite rudely told to get my dog off the outside bench “because people need to sit there”

We disposed of the inedible sandwich bought at the Haxby baker (in Haxby) today for fear of returning, after being served by dithering unhappy staff. The coffee and cake was ok. It appears the shop is run for the benefit of the staff not the customers. Never again.

Always make time for a stop over at Haxby Bakehouse. Their bread is amazing whether it’s pain de levian sourdough or focaccia, their sandwiches are to die for and their freshly baked pastries cannot be beaten. They also stock a large variety of independent and top quality pastas, oils, pantry staples and beautiful Spanish crockery. Plus, their cafe is dog friendly. Every woofer I have come across there is very well behaved, and so are their humans. All of their staff make everyone feel very welcome, humans and hounds in equal measure. It’s great actually to see that many places now in Haxby are dog friendly; a stop over at Haxby Bakehouse for a coffee and pastry, bread for home plus a treat for the woofer…we’ll be back.

Just visitor lunch and whilst the food is great will not return. Unsure why dogs are permitted off the lead to roam around, on an extended lead to approach other customers, allowed to sit up on the benches on the rugs. Don’t want to sit and eat where a dogs backside has been….and allowed to be carried around the shop and in close contact with uncovered cakes on the top of the counter. Young staff member just shrugged her shoulders when asked about it. Management - wash your rugs and stop selfish idiots doing this in your establishment it’s disgusting :(

Tried the bread before and today bought the seasonal Bakewell tart and oh my word, it’s to die for! The crust was crumbly and and buttery, the jam wasn’t overfilled, the almonds toasted evenly, the main tart part very moist and airy light kinda like a sponge!!! Even better that it wasn’t too sweet either - about the same sweetness as a Victoria sponge with crème and jam that you get from fridge supermarket ones. Could’ve had another slice but watching my calories. The best Bakewell tart I’ve ever had! Will be back again to try the other items!! Staff very friendly and welcoming.

My experience with Haxby Bakehouse is rather complicated. If you want good sourdough bread, then you cannot go wrong here. If you want a limited selection of deli items, you cannot go wrong. If you want good bread, go no father. However, there are a few things I don't like. Their pain au chocolat are always burnt. If you ask them about it, they will tell you that this is how they do it in Paris, that Pain Au Chocolat should be a deep brown colour. But their pain au chocolat are burned. I have been a pastry chef for 6 years. I attended Cordon Bleu's Patisserie course and know a lot about pastries and desserts. The French, as Haxby Bakery say, always bake their bread and pastries darker than we do in the UK, and this is 100% amazing. They have more flavour and better texture. However, the pain au Chocolat herr are regularly black, and therefore burned. I LOVE Haxby Bakehouse, but they need to understand when to take the PaC out of the oven. Apart from that, their bread is PHENOMENAL- 5 STARS WITHOUT A DOUBT. But their pastries leave me wanting. Please do not take this review as a warning not to go there. If you're reading this and are wondering whether or not you should go there and give them your money, I 100% recommend going there and buying some sourdough and some amazing-quality deli-products, including their figs. But just get on the eye out for baked goods that have not been baked in the correct way (i.e pain au chocolates that are burned). Otherwise, I LOVE this place. Some of the best sourdough in the area BY FAR. ALSO, IF YOU EVER GO INTO HAXBY BAKEHOUSE, ASK THEM TO RE-INTRPDUCE AND MAKE SWEDISH FRIENDSHIP BREAD AGAIN. Their Sweidsh Friendship Bread is the best bread I've ever had in my entire life of exploring different quisines, including HAUTE CUISINE. it is the best bread in the world. PLEASE PESTER THEM UNTIL THEY DO JT AGAIN

Went to the counter to order, the staff didn't even acknowledge us, we had to ask if they're serving, after starting to order they said we don't know if they have what we want, rather than ask the other staff there he tried to charge us for everything except the food, the attitude of the staff here is terrible. It's not my fault you don't know if you have something on the menu, so don't roll your eyes at me, go and ask. After around 5 minutes of trying to order and getting attitude from both members of staff we decided to go elsewhere. The entire time it felt like we were bothering them by coming in to get a food. Good to see the other reviews saying the staff are miserable, not just a bad day!

We visited after tasting their lovely bread for so long when visiting our local cafés in York. Unfortunately the worker was really rude, understandably it’s only 2 at a time but she kept insisting one of us go in alone when someone else was in the shop, even though we repeatedly said we wanted to go in and look together. Very weird and rude energy. Bread’s fire though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We have been coming to Haxby Bakehouse for a few years. We first heard about Phil (owner) when we went to the Cake & Bake show a number of years ago and he was presenting a session on sourdough. The bread and cakes/pastries are always fresh and tasty. There is such a fab choice that it’s hard to choose each time we visit!! With the addition of Bakehouse Barn, it’s taken the bakery to another level! It’s not often that we come as we live on the other side of York but when we do, it’s such a treat! We ordered this beautiful box of treats via the Bakehouse Barn to celebrate Mother’s Day! Can’t wait to try them!! Also stopped off for a quick brunch of Rhubarb & Custard danish (for me) and a pepperoni pizza toastie (for the hubby). All washed down with a lovely cup of coffee!!

One star too many; read on to find out why ... On 11.03.20 at 17:00 I was reversing out of a parking bay; there was no other vehicle was to my left, right or behind me. I was in an established reverse manoeuvre and so I had right of way, yet a van man appeared and did not stop to allow me to continue the manoeuvre; I had to stop abruptly causing me to lurch forward, even though I was reversing slowly. I emailed Haxby Bakehouse, for it was their van man who failed to stop. Lockdown occurred on 23.03.20, ie 13 days after this incident. Prior to Lockdown, I did not receive a reply, which is a poor reflection upon Haxby Bakehouse. On 08.07, I emailed Haxby Bakehouse for a second occasion, which did prompt a reply. Email exchange with Haxby Bakehouse was quite dreadful, particularly, as the woman with whom I was emailing alleged that “I would however like to inform you that I have spent many years in HR dealing with CUSTOMER complaints!”. If Haxby Bakehouse woman did indeed work within HR, then she ought to know that the first thing you do is to issue an email acknowledging receipt and that the matter would be investigated; she did not do so. Why I persisted with my emails is twofold as Haxby Bakehouse woman failed: (i) To acknowledge my email, choosing to resort to passive aggressive behaviour. (ii) To accept that her driver could have caused an accident, for which she would have been liable Oh so many drivers have increasingly poor driving skills. They might choose to tailgate, jump red lights, or fail to stop when another driver has right of way as they are reversing. Last year, I reversed parked in Haxby Co-Op car park. When I returned to the car a very kind lady came over saying that a female driver had driven into the bay next to my car, yet had scratched the passenger panel, reversed and simply driven off! This very kind lady had made a note of the vehicle registration and had reported the incident with the police. I had no alternative other than to record the incident with my insurance company. When renewing my car insurance there was an increase, despite my car being correctly positioned in the parking bay, stationary and that I was nowhere near the car when the other woman driver scratched my car! I contacted the other driver, a GP!, who said “oh, I didn’t think you’d notice a little scratch”; her attitude was appalling for she simply did not care. This “little scratch” cost the GP £500, at which point she said “that’ll teach me” You see Haxby Bakehouse woman, the reason why your driver (who clearly demonstrated his own impatience and poor driving skills), who deliberately failed to stop and allow me to complete my reverse manoeuvre is of concern. However, of equal concern is your attitude, which was quite dreadful, bearing in mind you had (allegedly), “that I have spent many years in HR” … mmm

All she had to say was ok sir I'll cut you a smaller piece- not grunt and argue that it is difficult to get the accurate weight etc. Customer service is so important in that type of business- she has totally wrong attitude for front facing. We went into the Ivy not knowing anything about it but it looked inviting from the outside and it was cold and rainy and an awful weather-wise day. How pleasantly surprised we were. It seemed to be snooty and stuffy but wasn't. Beautiful atmosphere and the food was delicious. My friend had the 1917 Menu of starter and main: Salmon Rillette with avocado, salad and rye bread and main of Shepherds' Pie. I had a starter of roasted scallops with creamed spinach and potato puffs. The cost: no more than what you would've paid in a neighborhood cafe. And the rose colored ladies' bathroom is beautiful!
