Hawksmoor Borough in Southwark

Nice looking restaurant inside ,very friendly staff , table for 2 witch was a pocky little bench seat tucked out of the way in the corner , not so bad as I like being out of the way , looking forward to some lobster I ordered a half witch turned up promptly with my wife scallops witch were lovely 😍 she said , mine was no good so I told the waiter he asked if I wanted another which I declined, mains steak came with sweat potoe and mushroom and spinach and it was lovely my wife's monkfish was good to , 4 cans of beer and a gin and tonic ,and £240 latter we left , didn't have to pay for the crustacean that I couldn't eat , ??????

Excellent food and exceptional service. We had the pleasure of being served by Sylvester who was both helpful and knowledgeable. We had the Sunday roast with the upgrade to chateaubriand. Hawksmoor is never cheap but when you have a great experience it does make it worthwhile. We were able to stay at our table longer than originally booked and have a second bottle of wine without feeling rushed or pressured. Will definitely be back.

Fabulous place. Professional, impeccable and friendly service from Henry for our VIP private dining experience in ‘THE COOK’S ROOM’ As organiser, I sat upstairs in main restaurant. Most unfortunate that two youngish ladies with the most shrill, screaming voices were carrying on VERY loudly at their table - many other guests closeby (including me!) found it overbearing. Not the fault of the Hawksmoor but I do feel something could have been mentioned to these two by management. They were TOTALLY OTT!! I could not enjoy my £100 meal as I would have liked!!! Staff were attentive to me and had me move to a table in an equally busy (if not more busy) area of the main restaurant where my fellow diners spoke at normal volumes. Another closeby table left the premises. I spoke to the occupants of the other table as they left; they said they had finished eating but would have stayed to chat and enjoy more drinks. But could not cope with the screaming pair! If children were screaming and creating an unpleasant atmosphere, I have no doubt the management would have to do something. In this instance I was truly disappointed the evening (for me and couple of other tables close by) was ruined selfishness and poor manners. Just extremely glad my VIP group who were paying a lot per head plus expensive wines enjoyed a super private dining experience.

This was my first time at a Hawksmoor restaurant and I must say, it was absolutely fantastic. I was having a business lunch with one other and upon arrival, we were very swiftly shown to our table. Sometimes the tables in a steak restaurant are bunched together but there was amble room between tables, enough to have private conversations. We had the bread and butter as a starter snack followed by a few of their own branded beer, Hawksmoor Lagar; amazing beer. Moving on to why you are reading this review - The Steak. I had a sirloin and it was amazing. I’ve had steak at a few restaurants before but this was incredible; with a side of chips it was simply incredible. The staff were more than welcoming, capable and made us feel welcomed and not rushed. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

Consistently amazing food and even better customer service! Always attentive and respectful to customer needs and very good value for such high quality food. Roast potatoes, Light fluffy in the middle crispy on the outside. Gravy from heaven rich with bone marrow and you can have as much as you like 😋 I always have beef with the chicken is equally as delicious ! Never have room for pudding but enjoy it when my friends have so I can have a little spoonful !

My friend and I visited Hawksmoor Borough again and had lovely steaks. Whilst there was a slight problem with the orders the manager and staff member rectified immediately. As always great food, great service and a good vibe. Back to Seven Dials in a few weeks with my wife :-)

Hawksmoor has ruined eating out for me. Why? It'll never be as good as Hawksmoor. I had Scallops, Monkfish and a sticky toffee pudding. The sides (Mac and cheese, Tunworth Mash and creamed spinach) were sublime. But the thing living rent free in my head.... The strawberry cream soda. It was sublime.. please bottle it and sell it to people like me who live bloody miles away from you. 10/10 and dealt with a massive group including one tiddler absolutely beautifully. Thank you Hawksmoor. Wish I didn't live bloody miles away. I'll be back 😁🙏🏻💗

I visited Hawksmoor Borough on 13/07/2024, and had a table booked for 21:00. We ordered potted Beef and Bacon for starters unfortunately what came looked more like cold onion gravy over a cold Yorkshire pudding, the beef and bacon must have got lost in transit! Myself and my wife had one bite each and left it. Not to worry we would soon be moving on to our mains. I ordered the sirloin medium with chips and veg and my wife ordered the fillet medium with chips and veg. My wife's fillet was a little cold but totally edible, mine unfortunately was not! I have seen more meat on a big mac, my steak was full of fat and tough as old boots! They must have been scraping the bottom of the barrel to get my veg, i had to question if it was pulled out of the Thames. When the waitress came to collect our plates she asked how was the food? i said given the amount we have left on our plates I'll let you guess. I have to say the staff are very polite and attentive but i shall not be returning.

Our meal was faultless. Superb sirloin steaks, cooked EXACTLY as required. Delicious sides. Devastating desserts. Thank you for our best dinner! Special praise must go to the fabulous MALCOLM….what a lad he is. Outstanding service, very polished, and extremely engaging. Everyone and everywhere needs this guy. He should even help run the country! And give him Scottish money so he has difficulty getting rid of it………😬 We would return in a heartbeat.

10/10 service and delicious food. Hawksmoor never disappoints. Steak and sides done in the best possible way. Wine was also fab. Service second to none. Feargal our waiter was friendly and charming and made the whole experience wonderful.

First time visit for us, slightly underwhelmed. Husband was served a bottled beer in a plastic cup, which seemed odd for the type of restaurant. Food was average, 3 Roasted scallops were very small, a bit tasteless and the butter they were swimming in really distracted from the scallop itself, with some soggy breadcrumbs on top. Fillet and Ribeye both cooked to our liking, meat nothing special but fine. Beef dripping chips were lovely and crisp, but not very warm. Mac and cheese was lovely, very cheesy. My peppercorn sauce was very runny, more a consomme than a sauce. Sticky toffee pud for dessert was the saving grace, was rich and delicious. Enjoyable meal, but not sure it's worth the price-tag.

Wat een fijne bediening die attent, meedenkend en volgens het boekje zijn in een verscholen restaurant met aangename ambiance./ Zowel vis als T-bone steak aan tafel besteld en aangenaam verrast door de smaken hiervan net zoals de vele sides. Zowel salades, fries, chips, sweet potatoes, buttered greens, sauzen. Alles klopte gewoon. Het is wellicht wat prijziger, maar daarvoor krijg je wel een perfecte steak met super service. Oh ja… erg brede wijnkeuze en fijn verzorgde cocktails, starters en desserts zijn zeker een bonus.

A good restaurant which is a great respite from the hustle and general craziness from Borough Market. Good service and great atmosphere. Two people on our table ordered the beef pudding. Both people felt that the beef was quite dry. Was asked to give feedback and mentioned the poor quality of our main courses. The restaurant did apologise and have made amends. Would return but was not satisfied with the quality of the meal.

Visited here as a party of 7, Have been to Manchester several times and thought it would be hard to beat. Well you guys did. Food 10/10 Service 11/10. We had 2 servers as i think the shift had changed and both were excellent friendly, professional and attentive. If you want a great Steak and top service couldn't recommend any more highly, as everyone in our party left fully satisfied. The guys and girls in Manchester may need to up their game based on this and finally is it not about time you open a place in Birmingham!!!!! If we end up in London again this will definitely be our go to

The service is excellent here, We came for Sunday Lunch at 12pm. The place was already really busy. We got seated at a nice table and were brought the menu and drinks very quickly. They do a very good bloody mary and roast beef. I am already looking forward to going back

Having read quite a few reviews,we were a bit sceptical, however we must admit that probably best fillet and rib eye steaks we have had for a long time. They were all cooked to perfection and the bone marrow gravy and peppercorn sauce together with the chips, spinach and boiled potatoes were delicious. The desserts were equally as good, especially the ice cream sundae. The service was good with the only slight criticism was when the waitress brought the sides, we found her to be not particularly friendly and totally obvious to any thanks we gave. Overall, we (4 adults) thoroughly enjoyed the evening and although pretty expensive at nearly £100 a head, which included 2 bottles of wine, we felt that due to the quality of the food, it was reasonable. Would certainly book again.

Booked to the my boyfriend for a steak for his birthday. I mentioned the occasion when booking, and the staff were excellent upon arrival, and made the evening really special for him. It was a busy service, but Victor took time to explain the menu, and we didn’t feel rushed. Food was excellent, topped off with some home made rolos and a martini to finish.

Très beau et bon restaurant mais peu adapté à de jeunes enfants. Viande de très bonne qualité ce qui peut justifier certains prix. Serveuse sympa mais un peu oppressante Très bruyant et service très long

I’ve been to 4 or 5 Hawksmoor restaurants in London and this is my favourite in terms of décor and ambience. I went for Sunday Roast with a friend. I’d given up on most pub roasts as they are usually disappointing, but thought I’d give Hawksmoor a try. The service throughout for excellent. We were seated promptly. Everyone was friendly, food and drinks arrive quickly despite the restaurant being so busy. We went for the roast rump, which was excellent. I was a little sceptical given it is a cheaper cut, but it was cooked pink and tasted great. Vegetables were good and a decent large Yorkshire. The potatoes could have been crispier but were still okay. We ordered a couple of side dishes. The sausage stuffing was tasty. Unfortunately, the cauliflower cheese sauce was too runny, which was a shame given that the cauliflower was cooked well with a nice crispy top. Desert was sticky toffee pudding. I think Hawksmoor sticky toffee is the best I’ve had anywhere. Finished with a couple of double espressos which were too sour. Overall, a very enjoyable lunch. When our server asked how the food was, I did provide some feedback on the cauliflower and coffees. To out surprise, these were removed from the bill. Given that two of us spent over £200 including drinks, obviously the restaurant didn’t lose out, but the gesture was much appreciated. I will definitely be back to Hawksmoor Borough soon!

My steak was delivered and immediately looked awful. A solitude piece of meat, served with cold chips as a side. The steak was dry, charred on the outside, and even the steak knife provided struggled to cut through probably the toughest meat I've ever tried to eat.. Dreadful experience all round, staff oblivious to the fact that something clearly wasn't right. Never, ever again. I can do better in my own kitchen for a fraction of the price.

I had heard about the new Hawksmoor lunch menu, and spontaneously decided to visit the Borough location while walking past on a Thursday. They had just opened for lunch and I was seated right away. I ordered the Tunworth Royale patty melt, essentially a burger toasted sandwich, this being the item that had grabbed my attention when first learning about the new menu. Considering I was one of the first people to place an order, the food did take quite a long time to be delivered (around 30 minutes). It was an enjoyable sandwich although it did not hold together and I had to resort to eating it with a fork and knife. The accompanying onion rings were very nice. Without any drinks, I paid £18 for my lunch which seems like a bargain for a visit to Hawksmoor! While undoubtedly great value, the sandwich was not as good as I hoped it would be. For context, I would have been perfectly happy if I purchased this from a vendor in neighbouring Borough Market, but this being Hawksmoor the bar is set pretty high, and I know from past experiences that there are definitely more enjoyable things to eat on their regular menu. Overall my faith in Hawksmoor remains unwavering but I will probably just revert to ordering a nice big steak with a few sides on my next visit!

Always a challenge for kitchens to serve big restaurants that have many covers and this is certainly true of Hawksmoor Borough, which is enormous. We both started with scallops and agreed that they were the most tasteless we had ever experienced. Also, they were slimy and obviously frozen. Not what one would or should expect from even an only mid-range restaurant. My companion was happy with his ribeye and my fillet was acceptable-to-good and both were cooked as per our requests. Chips were excellent but creamed spinach was somewhat slushy. Treacle toffee pudding was excellent. Service was efficient and attentive enough although some of the staff appeared not to be happy in their work.

My wife and I visited Hawksmoor Borough for a meal and both of us really enjoyed the experience and the food. The steaks were cooked perfectly and were very good cuts of meat. Thank you to the manager and the staff who provided an excellent experience.

Last minute booking early on a Sunday evening. Place was very busy. Service was excellent from the get go and throughout the meal. Great atmosphere. Food was superb. Hard to find a better steak in London.
