Found this lovely pub on our way to see a comedy show at Southend. The food was good quality and well cooked. The sever was very friendly and professional.

Throughly enjoyed our lunch yesterday! Lydia went above and beyond even though it was very busy. Couldn’t recommend the hawk more for its food and service.

Lovely pub in a great location . The food was spot on and our waitress was very good . Only downfall is the car park isn't big enough .

We love it here staff are amazing food everytime is spot on and really can not fault it, highly recommed.

The best Sunday roast ever, by far. Generous meat and veg, huge Yorkshire pudding and bottomless gravy. Our server Stacey was amazing, friendly and fast. Packed restaurant but the service was excellent. Puddings to die for. Highly recommended ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Absolutely love this restaurant. The staff are always amazing and willing to go above and beyond to make your meal enjoyable. We were welcomed by Chloe who showed us to our seats and made sure we had drinks immediately, Our waitress was Lydia who was perfect in every way. The meal was timed perfectly between course and was cooked to perfection.Would highly recommend to anyone looking for that perfect meal. The wine and dine menu is amazing and I can not recommend it enough! Trust me you will not be disappointed in this restaurant.

Introduced to this Pub/Restaurant at Battlesbridge about 6 months ago. It really is superb in every way. It serves the best food that matches many an a la carte restaurant. Service from the staff is also of the highest standard. The chef also offers a number of veggie and vegan dishes that are again highly rated and imaginative. This Hawk pub is a really special place.

Whilst I couldn't agree more that this is a very warm and atmospheric pub I can't give a good review on the actual service. Rushed to order. Bill put on the table when we didn't ask for it and our table wasn't needed as the pub had emptied out by 3pm. Side orders... Absolute rip off. 4 bits of Broccoli and a spoonful of Spinach! Sorry.... Won't be back any time soon.

Went for a lovely meal on the 18th our server Jack was very attentive and you could tell he was very experienced and knowledgeable of the menu, would definitely recommend and we will be coming back!

We had lunch here recently, it was my first visit. My friend had the seabass but said it was a curry type sauce and not what she had ordered. I had the soup, it was nice but the smallest soup that I have ever had! It was in a very shallow bowl and only half full. So disappointing.

Slipped down hill for past 8-12 months. No atmosphere robotic staff food average with no change in menu except for the price increases Been here regularly but the food on more than one occasion has be awful… rarely visit when something is not available on the menu. Lately felt rushed.

Just got home from our first visit to this pub for my birthday. We had a really nice meal, with great service from Senita, she was attentive and friendly and gave me a lovely ice cream treat for my birthday at the end. We will return.

Honestly everything was excellent. The seating was perfect for us (next to an open fire). Our waitress was super and the food excellent. In fact we bought the chef a drink as we enjoyed the food so much!

Excellent venue for a decent hot meal. Great choice of food. Beautiful looking venue. Nice, warm and welcoming. Easily accessible seating. Gourmet food and choice of beer was excellent. Our choices - Steak and Malbec pie and the King Prawn linguine - were amazing! Tremendous, very accommodating service. Prices reasonable for what you are getting. Highly recommended.

Usually enjoy visiting The Hawk, however we felt a little disappointed when we visited recently as we booked the dome and selected the all day menu when booking, but was told on the day we could only order from the celebration menu which were heavily condensed options. The dome was fun, but if we had known we would have just booked inside as we had seen the full menu and were excited by the options.

We went to the Hawk for their annual Quiz Night, hosted by one of their fab team, Christian….. brilliant fun, even a playdoh round expertly judge by one of the pubs regulars. Made a nice change to do something different in the festive period, will definitely go ago! Food, drinks and service was great on the night.

Boxing Day was made special by the hawk

Ate out for Christmas day for the first time. Food was delicious and ordered a red Rioja by the label Tondeluna which was probably the best Rioja we've ever had. Staff were very attentive throughout. Will definitely book this experience again. Well done to everyone running The Hawk.

Super lovely gastro pub, especially after an afternoon of antique shopping. Food was pretty good and pricing is decent. We loved our server and the woman that served drinks and took our reservation was amazing. She gave us one of the outdoor domes which turned out to be lovely for our family. Food service was a bit slow but our server was great so you couldn’t fault her. Overall a solid score, they know what they are doing and do it very well.

The customer service was outstanding once seated (we possibly went on their busiest day of the year, Xmas Day) and staff were very attentive. The food was very scrumptious and all were happy. We will happily visit again.

Food lovely, although we opted for the super festive menu and were told After the drinks arrived that the Rib eye steak had run out. However we were given the option of Fillet steak at no extra cost which was appreciated and was lovely. Wine a little expensive.

We came on Christmas Eve, was busy but got seated in good time with a booking, the food was amazing, Best cod and chips I’ve had in a while, Senita was lovely and really made the experience amazing always checking on us and making sure the food was good. 5/5 would 100% come again

The Hawk as always was very busy. Our table was ready on time and they had taken note on the booking that we would have a large dog with us and the table was perfect. Our server was friendly and efficient, she helped me get the new app on my phone which got me a very enjoyable glass of champagne.We were a table of 3 who each had 3 courses and each one was perfect, without a doubt the best roast in the area. Well done to the Hawk and all the staff.

We tend to default to the Hawk as we know it is reliable and good value. Needs to get up to date on alcohol free beer offering though. Lovely pre-christmas meal.

I used to love the Sunday roast but something has changed. Smaller portions, fewer vegetables, and having to pay for cauliflower cheese is not value for money. Things change so maybe I will try somewhere else.

Had a wonderful meal at the hawk! We go yearly as it's a special treat. The entertainment really made it lovely. Staff are great, venue is clean and well looked after. Only issue I could find is the lights were quite low so not only the waitress but I also bumped my head on them. They must have been designed to be low over a table and the tables have been changed I assume? We preferred to be where we could hear the entertainment, so our waitress was kind enough to give us a table in the area next to the entertainment and we really enjoyed ourselves. We usually find desert to be too much, however we loved the option of small desert and warm drink, the desert I think is still sizable on this option too! The entertainment kept us there to drink more and have more than we would usually do so it's very worthwhile 🙂 looking forward to our next visit. Thank you! (Also to add - there's no specific dietary catering although they do offer to work to make a specific meal) I would probably visit once a month as this is local to me and food quality is good if we can be more strongly assured about lactose and gluten free as I visit restaurants regularly with someone who requires the dietary restrictions.

Nice couple of days in Essex with besties! Booked the hawk for 1.30 pm lunch! Obviously they were busy with xmas round the corner, but not overly busy! Ŵ sat for 25 minutes before being approached to order! We all ordered our food and a drink! No starter! The 2 x medium reds were £8 each and not very good ! The strawberry ciders were better value and seemed good! Sadly we sat for nearly 45 minutes waiting for food ! The table next to ours orderd well after us and got theirs first which really annoyed one of our group,!! When the lamb dishes arrived they were missing 1 item off the dishes and when asked a waitress why she said she would check but never came back to us! I had cod and chips with mushy peas! The fish was big but tasteless and the batter was thin and insipid in colour! The chips were warm at best and half were under the fish and soggy! The minted peas were in pureed form! Pretty horrible! The toilets are up 2 flights of stairs so no good for old patrons! To sum up! The meal and drinks were expensive! The malbec was bland! The meals were generally not great And it took over 2 hours to get and eat our lunch ,which is pretty unacceptable even if you are busy!! By the bye, we had to park a couple of hundred yards up the road as we were unable to get into the small pub car park! I cannot recommend this pub for a meal out as no one was happy with their meals generally! Shame as it is in a nice setting!

Had the most lovely dinner here this evening, the most friendly staff I don’t think I’ve ever had better service. The food was artisan but for such an affordable price. We want to say thank you Stacey for being extremely accommodating to a nut allergy on our table. 10/10!

I've wanted to visit this place for a couple on months now so waited till my birthday there was 7 of us we was first told the was no beef only on trio and sharers so four of us brought two shares we was all disappointed when 1 slice off beef come out with 2 small pieces of pork 1 was 3/4 of fat and 2 bit of chicken and veg all this for £50 for 2 people we did say about it to the Waitress and she did bring out some more mate for us, which was nice, but the food wasn't hot It was Luke warm we was disappointed with the experience and then service charge on top Boy going for the pictures on the website he looks absolutely fantastic, but unfortunately it wasn't what he was expecting Further to your reply on first impressions, I don't think we will come back. There are a lot better places out there and cheaper as well for more food same quality.

Very busy gastro pub. Friendly staff and great food

I was recommended this place by a relative and had great expectations. Unfortunately myself and partner were very disappointed. We were seated in the very back dining area which felt like someone’s dining room as opposed to a restaurant/ pub, meaning we missed out on the pub/ Christmassy atmostsphere, decor and general cosy feeling, as well as the live singer. It felt like we had been placed out of the way. The wait for the starters (cold starters bread) seemed too long, and the main courses for both myself and partner were almost inedible. The food was dry and overcooked with no flavour. The only good thing about the place were the staff who were pleasant and friendly. It is very unlikely we will return.

3 of us were seated immediately despite arriving in the middle of Sunday lunch service without a reservation. Good service and food, plenty of options on the menu over and above the traditional roast offerings. Car park was almost full, but understandable given the day & time. Highly recommended & will definitely be back.

Booked for my son’s 40th for 4 of us. Requested table near any of the fire places. Given a table as far away from everything in the furthest corner. One sheet of paper with menu on, 90% of menu was crossed off, so very limited food on offer. Waitress was grumpy. Another couple who sat down read menu & walked out. Then us 4 walked out. Total waste of time there. Won’t be visiting again. Wouldn’t mind but I belong to a ladies group (approx 20) which all attend & have a meal once a month there. Unfortunately I’ll be passing the news on

Really really poor experience from start to finish. We booked a table only about 45 minutes prior to our arrival...they failed to tell us that their grill/extractor was broken which meant they had almost all the children's menu not available...you would think they would mentioned this when we book a table, with a child. The service team really didnt seem to care for it, offered absolutely no work around or extra service, it was essentially a take it or leave it for a hungry 4 year old, who ended up having to order something that she did not like (£8 for just the main of a kids meal, all other local places do a 2 or 3 course meal with a drink for kids at this price). Service was slow, 1 of the adult pizzas had a base that was so hard the supplied pizza cutter couldnt get through it and the Vegetarian burger as quite possibly the cheapest option they could have possibly found, in probably 50 different meat replacements or veg-burgers this really was cheap and awful...should have known when they told me it's cooked in the oven and not on the (broken!) grill! The rest of the plate was rather miserable to, just some chips in a small bowl...that was it. No salad, no garnishing. For £17 it was very very poor value vs pretty much every other restaurant in the area. Unfortunately, this really isnt a one off. Come here once a year and never had a good experience for one reason or another. 3.5 rating on TR tells you all you need to know. Avoid, lots of other better and much cheaper options in the area....i just don't think the staff really care here; never show it in person when things aren't right and never provide a worthy follow up to reviews.
