Food well prepared and tasty, covering a range of tastes and requirements and served quickly with excellent allergy attention from waiting staff, all of whom were personal e, caring and rare for me to say excellent!

Great Sunday Roast with my family today / pub very busy when we arrived and super attentive service from Stacey throughout the meal Great visit

As you can see from my first review below our first experience was fabulous. I chose not to leave a review the second time as the experience was not great. As for our third visit … This was our third visit—and, it was anything but a charm. While the waitress was very polite and the starters were enjoyable, things quickly went downhill. We waited 45 minutes for our main courses, only for them to arrive completely cold—not lukewarm, but genuinely cold. The vegetables, the meat, the sauce—everything. The waitress was apologetic, but by then it was 9pm, and we had no desire to wait any longer. We asked for the bill, and what I can only assume was the manager came over and opened with the baffling statement: “It’s not your fault, but there was a power cut which meant the dishes couldn’t be kept hot.” She then added that we’d only be charged for drinks. After that statement, any sentiment of apology or accountability was lost on us I was too shocked and upset in the moment to even question how the situation could possibly have been our fault. What was meant to be a special occasion was completely ruined—we left hungry and disappointed. I don’t like to leave negative reviews but sadly, this isn’t the first time we’ve had cold food served here, but it will absolutely be the last. We won’t be returning, and I won’t be recommending The Hawk for a nice meal out. FIRST VISIT The food was delicious and The chateaubriand was absolutely fantastic., however it was the service that really stood out for us. . Cathy was beyond exceptional. Not only did she quickly resolve a small issue with our a starter but also provided superior service. So professional, accommodating and a true credit to the establishment. Nothing was too much trouble and everything was done with a smile. Cathy made our evening.

Aimee looked after us and was very accommodating for all of our requests. Food and drinks were very good.

Absolutely Fabulous! our waitress Aimee, was so lovely and helpful, she went out of her way to help my Aunt find something she could eat, as she was unable to eat certain things due to her health, nothing was a problem Food delicious 😋 I had salmon with king prawns and noodles, Irene had roast pork, Yorkshire puddings were amazing you could park in one! and my pudding 😋 Thanks so very much. Was very busy as well so they are certainly getting it spot on!

Fantastic restaurant. Great surroundings, brilliant and friendly atmosphere. It is our “go too” for a good, special occasion roast / lunch, but has a more casual bar / dining area. The staff (especially Aimee) are friendly and made a great occasion of my wife’s birthday while keeping my son entertained and happy. Fully Recommend!

Our table wasn't ready, waited over 30 minutes, food service was extremely slow and sides came out halfway through meal and came out cold. Over priced for the quality of food and service!

Excellent food, good setting and I thought reasonably priced. Selection of food was good and gluten and other allergies catered for well.

Went on a busy bank holiday but unlikely to go back. The menu was varied, great gluten free options as I have coeliac disease with very helpful staff to advise on my dietary issues. The place is even dog friendly si I really wanted to enjoy my first visit to The Hawk. Sadly the visit was let down by poor quality food, starter of scallops was tepid at best, pork main was dry and over cooked. Great front of house staff(especially Stacey) let down by poor food. Unfortunately I will not be back.

Great pub, friendly service and good selection of dishes and drinks. Can get busy at weekends so you might want to book for more than 2 people. The car park can also get packed.

The food took ages and there was hardly anyone in. And when it turned up it was over cooked and burnt. The chips were cold. Can't understand how the food was so poor as there were not many orders. Waited 48 minutes for their garlic bread with cheese! ( the only thing that was warm) The non alcoholic beer is as expensive as alcholic beer and was room temp not cold enough. The bar staff were polite and helpful but the service of the food was poor and well it didn't get eaten and wasn't waiting for a new batch. We already waited over an hour.

The best roast dinner on Essex! Great service even when it’s busy. Cannot fault it.

Service staff were excellent, specifically Senita who was very attentive, polite and personable. Food was ok, but I wouldn't say it was distinguished in any way. The cauliflower cheese side dish was a bit dry and needed more sauce and flavour, but food was served hot and quickly.

Our server was Stacey who was a ray of sunshine. Food was delicious as always

Amazing food and service. We visited on a Saturday evening with friends who were over from France for the weekend. One of the party had gluten and lactose allergies - the care and attention given to the ordering and presentation of food to ensure no cross-contamination was exemplary. Our waiter Callum was very attentive and also had a great sense of humour! Cannot fault the food or service, well done The Hawk, 5 stars well deserved!

The best chicken and leek pie on the planet! Stacey was helpful, polite and friendly, knew the menu and had great recommendations. Definitely be back, a must if in the area.

Heard some great things about The Hawk battlesbrigde so decided to pay a visit . It didn't disappoint the day in question they had a offer on there app of buy one , get one free on mains ( the app I've now downloaded ) so the restaurant was fully booked but I managed to get a table in there beautiful garden on this sunny day . We had bar service where the lovely Brandon help answer all my questions and queries with a smile of his face despite it being completely busy . I must admit all the staff where like this but nothing was to much trouble to them and always polite and professional . I ordered off the lunch set menu .... Fantastic value £20.95 for two course I had the squid with the gochajung and the fillet steak sandwich both extremely tasty along with the spoonfuls of port & cheddar and pea asparagus rissotto that I sneakily borrowed from a unsuspecting dinning companion . Dessert couldn't decide so had the trio ... Why not. All good was delicious and seeing as it was so busy came out it good time . Thank you for a lovely afternoon The Hawk team

Had a lovely meal at the Hawk last night for my sisters birthday. Food was amazing. Lovely atmosphere. The staff were absolutely brilliant, attentive, friendly, faultless.

Got a seat in bar area for dining, but nonetheless, it is a lovely place. The food was fantastic, so tasty, hot and attention to detail is fab. The beef croquettes, breads were delicious, the crab and king prawn linguine was to die for. The service and friendly staff added to the lovely atmosphere. I would definitely recommend booking in advance tho as it is very popular.

Came in for dinner with the family to celebrate a special occasion on Thursday night and was gifted with outstanding service. Food was superb and the waiter Jack was lovely. Will definitely be coming back!

Lovely pub, with a big garden, Food wise we had - the dirty burgers & the pizzas 10/10 ,

We love the look and feel inside but have to be honest the food was a let down. We don't often raise complaint but the food took nearly an hour to come out after ordering and both meals had appeared as if they had been done for some time, I dont know if heat lamps are used but thats what it seemed like. The buttermilk chicken burger was as hard as a boulder and the bun so done it was crumbling apart; it was actually not edible. When raising this with the server we can not fault them and very quickly a new burger was made and brought out this time much better and how it should be! It again made us question that the food had been done for a while as this was made and served quickly second time and was fresh. The pie was also hard and again the mash seemed as if it had been sitting for a while; I've had better mash in a ready meal I have to be honest; it just wasent very warm and was pretty plan and stodgy. I hope things improve as we do like the place but this is the second time the food has been disappointing out of 3 visits.

Food was lovely, especially the dessert (which we forgot to take photos of!). Senita served us for the evening, making sure all of our needs were met with a smile on her face ☺️

We had a lovely 3 course lunch here. The food was excellent, lots of variety on the menu, and very impressed with the increased vegetarian options, all of which were a bit more interesting than a lot of other places have on offer, good work! The dishes we had were very well presented and delicious, and excellent value for the quality of food. Stacey our server was great, very friendly and efficient and looked after us well. A great day out!

We had a table booked for 2.30pm for 8 people. Arrived early to drop off surprise birthday cake. We were moved around by various staff and felt uncomfortable. Fortunately when we were all seated at our table the service food etc and our waitress Jenny was lovely.

Senita was an incredible waitress, she really looked after us. The food was really enjoyable too.

Went for Sunday lunch/roast, nice restaurant with friendly staff, it was nice and busy and the food tasted great (it wasn't very hot but didn't worry me too much) i'd advise booking ahead, and I would definitely go again!

Had an amazing trio roast dinner, came out really quickly despite being in a large group. Our server (Sinitta) was so lovely and super helpful which made the experience all the more enjoyable - thank you!

What a great place, lovely food and friendly servers. Nice atmosphere, great setting and not overly noisy. I can thoroughly recommend the pork belly which was amazing! Our party of four had a brilliant evening.

Great spot to grab a bite for lunch or dinner, we went for my husbands birthday and took the dog- she was very well behaved and we dined in the bar area still lovely and comfy. We opted for a roast- amazing! All the trimmings was delicious!!

Had a nice relaxed lunch meal here recently with a work colleague. The food was lovely, good menu choice and decent portion sizes. Also liked the fact they have a range of alcohol free options including cocktails. I had a slight issue with my main course, the pork belly, it seemed a lot fattier than usual (I know some people like it that way, but I prefer the fat to be crisped up a bit), anyway I mentioned to our waitress and she offered to change my meal. I said no thank you, I had just wanted to point it out, and when we asked for the bill, we discovered she had actually removed the pork belly from the bill! How nice was that?! We were sat for quite a while chatting, and they left us to it. Didn’t feel rushed or anything. Would definitely go back!

Overpriced! Almost £13 for a large glass of red wine (wish I had checked prices but no drinks menu on table funny enough)and desserts average at £9 and not even home made! Took 2 hours to have 2 courses, constantly being asked if want more drinks, no lamb on the menu which was my daughters favourite and reason for visit was birthday meal for her, automatically put £16 tip on bill so luckily we checked bill, food is nice but small portions for prices, wouldn't recommend or go back

Absolutely love this restaurant. The staff are always amazing and willing to go above and beyond to make your meal enjoyable. We were welcomed by Chloe who showed us to our seats and made sure we had drinks immediately, Our waitress was Lydia who was perfect in every way. The meal was timed perfectly between course and was cooked to perfection.Would highly recommend to anyone looking for that perfect meal. The wine and dine menu is amazing and I can not recommend it enough! Trust me you will not be disappointed in this restaurant.

Introduced to this Pub/Restaurant at Battlesbridge about 6 months ago. It really is superb in every way. It serves the best food that matches many an a la carte restaurant. Service from the staff is also of the highest standard. The chef also offers a number of veggie and vegan dishes that are again highly rated and imaginative. This Hawk pub is a really special place.

Whilst I couldn't agree more that this is a very warm and atmospheric pub I can't give a good review on the actual service. Rushed to order. Bill put on the table when we didn't ask for it and our table wasn't needed as the pub had emptied out by 3pm. Side orders... Absolute rip off. 4 bits of Broccoli and a spoonful of Spinach! Sorry.... Won't be back any time soon.

We had lunch here recently, it was my first visit. My friend had the seabass but said it was a curry type sauce and not what she had ordered. I had the soup, it was nice but the smallest soup that I have ever had! It was in a very shallow bowl and only half full. So disappointing.
