Lovely pub/restaurant generous portions good food and quick friendly service

Very well run pub, nice location and guests well looked after

I love Hatch, one of my favourite pubs. The atmosphere is lovely, not too loud but lively with people. The servers were friendly and efficient. The portions are big but not too much. I highly recommend the Duo of Chicken main and the mini Carmelised Creme Brulee Vanilla Cheesecake with tea or coffee. They will also customise the dishes for your dietary needs.

We were in the area today and just called in on the off chance of having Sunday lunch, fully expecting that we may not get in as we had not booked. Fortunately as the weather was fine we were able to sit in the beautiful garden. Service was great as was the food. I can honestly say that this was the best pub roast I have had in a very long time! Beef was well cooked and the vegetables were fresh and perfectly cooked. Would definitely recommend!

A lovely pub. First time I've been here since Covid and it's just as good as it always was. Lovely old rustic interior which makes it very cosy. Good service. Nice food and good selection of beers on the tap. Will definitely be returning

Wow what a meal. It was amazing complimentary bread at the start and then the mains came out quickly and tasted amazing. Only complaint is the area we were in was very dark and had to use phone light to see the menu and this was 3 pm in the afternoon

Went on Sunday 26th Aug mthe best roast dinner's we have had out, crispy roast potatoes huge Yorkshire pud lovely fresh veg, dessert was yummy too, my mum (95yr) really enjoyed it, Jess our server was one of the best.

Great tasting coffee. Coronation chickpea and chips was delicious. If I’m in the area again I’d eat here. Very glad I found this place.

Lovely place with a large beer garden. Drinks were normal prices Staff friendly and helpful. Food looked good but we didn't eat on this occasion.

Terrible food but nice atmosphere. Dry, overcooked and expensive for what you get - we had the lunch bites and based camembert. But inside pub and outside garden is very pretty, so great place for drinks

Only popped in for a couple of drinks, good service at the bag & plenty of space inside/outside, we sat in the garden which was chill. Bonus bike parking undercover next to the pub 👍🏻🚴

Handy pub for a retrieve meal...

I tried pre-booking a table online. If I were a party of two, it would provide me with a timeslot, but since I was going solo, it would ask me to look at an alternative date. So I ignored the online booking and popped down. I found the car park easily, but when I arrived around 7:45 pm, it was apparent it was busy inside. There were no markings, so people would park in some weird and wonderful spaces. The staff were super friendly and helpful. They offered me an eight-seater table, which I declined and asked if it was ok to eat outside. I felt bad taking a large table all to myself. The menu selection was great; I really liked the two or 3-course menu options. Ordering food was straightforward, and the person taking my order behind the bar was friendly. The only thing I might have liked to see was someone coming out to me to take my order, as I was very paranoid that someone would take my table whilst I was away placing my order. The food arrived pretty quickly, and it was tasty. This place is on my list to visit again in the future.

Excellent food and service. Interesting menu. We had the cheese burger and Duo Chicken. Both were absolutely delicious! We were served by Fernanda and Dean who were so welcoming and friendly. In fact all the staff were good. Will definitely return and highly recommend The Hatch. Advisable to book as it’s so popular now.

Beautiful location, very quaint and quiet in their outdoor seating area. Indoor facilities appeared all very clean and homely. Poor review for food as I was extremely ill with food poisoning symptoms hours after having a roast butternut squash, friend who visited with me wasn’t ill! (Have reported it to the restaurant)

Great little pub, nice gardens, lovely interior. Easy and spacious parking. Staff are friendly and personable. Would 100% reccomend. The food was all great, pints were decent too. If you're in the area or popping through, definitely worth checking it out.

A random find on Google before heading for the theatre! The food and service were exceptional. We’d have stayed longer if it wasn’t for our evening plans. Will be back soon!

Jessica was a very polite waitress & the food was lovely. Obviously a popular place as they nearly ran out of wine glasses!! I would highly recommend eating here with friends and family.

Can get very busy at peak times but I guess that’s testament to how popular this place is, been a few times & never disappointed with the service & food no matter how rushed off their feet they are.

While The Hatch may be part of a wider chain (Chef & Brewer) it has a number of positive factors. It might lack the individual character of an independent, but it's in a good, out of town location, still easy to access; service is friendly and prompt, and the menu is a good range of standard English pub fare at a reasonable price. A good meeting place.

Service and atmosphere great. That's where it ends unfortunately. Sack the chef and we will return

Food was very good we got it fairly quickly after ordering and it was acceptable but my god the price a two course meal for two people over £90

Thanks so much for making our group so welcome on Wednesday evening. My first time but we all enjoyed the outdoor and indoor space and the excellent service. We hope to be back in the autumn!

Lovely evening with friends. Heather our server was bright, breezy and attentive despite it being a busy evening. Food was OK, the brie, peach salad was the best of the meals taste wise in my opinion. The lime and soda was lovely as this can be hit and miss in other places.

Steak pie....the gravy tasted like a cheap oxon cube gravy rather than ale, which was described. Very mushy small pieces of beef that must have stewed for a long time. The steak ale pies I have had before are lovely chunks of beef with thick tasty gravy.

Four of us went to the Hatch for Sunday lunch but unfortunately our roast lunches were not up to the standard we expected for £20, my wife, sister in law and brother in law had the roast beef which unfortunately had more fat than lean beef and my beef and pork combo consisted of two very thin slices of beef and a slice of rolled pork with stuffing, sadly unless either the price is reduced or food is improved we won't be re-visiting.

Disappointed from my drink in a vase rather than a glass. Pork too tough to cut. Pudding not made on site and a waste of time. Service was good though

We organised a large part at the Hatch for a special birthday. All staff were very helpful at every point, from pre-order through to the service. We were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The food was very good, thank you to everyone, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Always good food and lots of people as this place is very popular. We are with friends and all had kids but they looked after them superbly.

We were looked after by Sarah & Jess whilst we dined at the Hatch! Me and my partner decided to take my little sister out for a lovely lunch to celebrate being back from uni and we were pleasantly surprised at how fantastic the pub is. The food was delicious , the service was fantastic and the staff were so very kind. 10/10 would recommend the chicken and bacon sandwich and that salad!!! It is gorgeous 😍

Brilliant service from both Heather & Lyndsey, made us feel at home from the moment we walked in, still fitting us in without having a booking on a busy Bank holiday. Compliments to the chefs too, great bit of grub 🙌🏻

I chose Cumberland sausages mash and peas. When served we were asked who's the sausage and mash. Made it sound very ordinary. My main comment is about the peas or whatever you served. They looked disgusting and tasted as bad. The looked as though they were processed peas. Buy a bag of Birdseye petits pois.

One of the best Greene King pubs we have been in. I gave it 5 stars because Amy was excellent. Attentive and made it a special occasion for my daughter's birthday. Amy made a mistake on the meal ordering but it was a happy accident and she dealt with it very well. The sea bass was lovely, as was the sharing board. My only change would be the battered cod was very dry and all batter.

Poor experience, waited 30 min for a sandwich. Slow service, bad food

Turned up for some food on the off chance, waitress was rude because we had not booked, Did not offer me options of booking a table in the evening just ordered us to the other end of the pub if we wanted to eat. We left and while sitting in my car I checked on line to see that they had tables only 45 minutes later. Maybe we would have had a drink and waited. Not nice service I expect in such a lovely pub, nice atmosphere. Shame, maybe The Hatch could work on her customer service approach because I'm reluctant to go back

Absolutely loved the food, service (from Sarah) and atmosphere. Randomly decided to go on a Wednesday night and it was so lovley to see a full pub. The food was fantastic and Sarah was so nice that I understand why it’s so busy.

Very happy with our ‘on a whim’ visit to The Hatch. Extremely attentive and prompt service (thanks JoJo and team), really nice meal (freshly battered squid, flame grilled pork, deep taste gravy), all very reasonable value. Will return.

We were served by Kyle, he was an excellent young man. He gauged that we weren’t in a rush to order food and gave us space. But very conscious once we did order. Very polite and kind young man.

Food ok but expensive and much smaller portions than 1 year ago

Came out for Sunday dinner, all staff really friendly our server was Dean who was very helpful. We had the vegan option which was beautiful. Gorgeous building in a lovely location. Will definitely be visiting again

More than a bit disappointed really. Was served nearly a pint of peroni. In a peroni pint glass. Got at least 3cm of head and 85% of a pint. Asked lady to top up to a full pint. Was told.. " we are trained to fill up to the top of the red peroni shape as this is a pint". That's a lie. The peroni glass is a pint glass to the brim. I'm already paying 6.65 a pint, don't need the barmaid or pub skimming off £1 of my hard earned money and then lying to me about the glass being over sized or a fake fill line. I had two pints so £2 stolen from me tonight. Just want this to be warning to others. Ask for your PINT to be topped up. Wouldn't mind so much if it was £4 a pint, but this is top money per pint. So expecting a full pint. Am I asking to much?..... Fraud... A bit harsh, but if it was a petrol station and they served under a liter of petrol and took the cash for a full liter, the station would be closed down.

Very disappointed with our visit on Sunday which was in stark contrast to our previous visit in December. Service slow despite being only half full, food overcooked, portions smaller than before and menu change also added the overall disappointment.

Nice atmosphere not loud like some Pubs can be, service was excellent, food was great with bigger than average portions, would definitely visit again

Brilliant service from the two waitresses. They were really busy and still were very attentive and chatty, Food was lovely well worth the money. Highly recommend. Will definitely visit again next time we are in the area.

I have visited this pub several times and the food has always been excellent (particularly their Sunday roasts). However, today (Sunday 24th March) I went with a friend and the menus have changed for a new trial (chicken is no longer sliced and you get half a carcus - I wouldn't now choose this) and the prices have risen by 50%! The service is still excellent, but they should bring back the old menu as disappointed with this PLUS the exorbitant price hike (normally I would have given 5 stars overall). Overall, the food portion was smaller, with less ingredients and a 50% price increase (though I was given complementary bread and garlic butter - which was tasty). Please go back to your former meal portions and ingredients and a modest price increase of 20% would have been acceptable (not 50%).

The Hatch has been my favourite pub for many years. I took mum there every weekend for the last 2 years of her life. They did the best sunday roast I have ever tasted. However, today 24th March, the Hatch offers a new menu with changes to the food and a large price increase. The person who sat me down told me they are trialing a new menu. Please, please get the old menu back! I checked online, and see the The Wheatsheaf at North Waltham is still doing the old menu as they offered exactly the same, so I guess the longer drive to get there will have to do from now on. The service is great at the Hatch, but the Sunday roast today has taken a drop in my opinion. Such a shame

Been a fair few times in both the middle of the week and the weekend. When busy there's an understandable wait for food but it's always fantastic. Service is spot on as well.

Popped in for dinner due to its proximity to our Airbnb. Unfortunately, the dining experience fell well short of expectations. I ordered a pie, but it wasn't cooked all the way through and cold on the inside, and the mash potato was oddly chewy. The staff kindly replaced the meal, however with little improvement to the standard of the food. Overall, a rather disappointing culinary encounter but staff were friendly and accommodating.

Disappointed.We were seated next to there serving hatch,and therefore there was a continous traffic by the waiting staff,often bumping in to the my chair.

First time here and we thoroughly enjoyed the food and service as well as atmosphere . Our waiter JoJo was very good and we did not have to wait long for our food.
