Lovely dog friendly pub. Always cook a good meal and we always leave very satisfied. Lovely atmosphere for cosy/casual dining and brilliant food every time.

My wife and I were looked after by Bella. Very friendly and pleasant. The whole atmosphere was relaxing and enjoyable. We only noticed at the end what a great garden they had too. Good to know as we head into spring and summer

Lily our server was friendly and attentive, food was good and well presented, value for money and somewhere that we would return to.

Had Sunday roast and not worth the money at all. Will never go for a roast here again. Had the roast duo which is beef and pork. Well there was no pork at all, just 2 pieces of fat, no meat on there at all. Then a tiny slice of beef. My friend had the half chicken and she certainly got her moneys worth. So if you go for Sunday roast only order the chicken!! Thanks for response about the pork belly but it literally was fat and no meat at all. Hence my comment. For the price would have been nice to have more than a small slice of beef and 2 lots of fat that you couldn't eat. Unfortunately had much better elsewhere. But like I said the chicken looked huge and worth the value.

Last minute table with no booking on a Saturday evening, above and beyond with service, delicious food and not long to wait. Dessert was lovely too! Cocktail & Coffee were perfect and the overall price wasn't bad at all. Dean, Jess & JoJo were particularly helpful and very accommodating! We had a lovely last minute date evening so many thanks!! 🙏🏻 Definitely recommend! 5 Star service!!!

Our experience at The Hatch was great. We had chicken strips & crispy squid for starters which were great. We had the cheddar & bacon burger and the mixed grill for mains, they were amazing! The burger was a tasty burger, chunky patty and crispy bacon, and the jam all together tasted great. The mixed grill was arguably the best mixed grill I’ve had. Great size portions of steak and gammon, could do with a little more peppercorn sauce though. We both had the sticky toffee pudding for desert, it was rich and flavoursome. Lovely ending to a perfect 3 course meal. We were served by Bella, she was a star. Everything done right, and was attentive and patient. Will be recommending it to others and will make sure to come back again. 5 Stars, 10/10.

We took a drive out for the day and found this lovely pub. Food and atmoshere was great. Highly recommended

Me and my partner came here for a Sunday roast, the staff were very attentive and the food came out very quickly. The Roast was incredibly tasty with the meat and potatoes being the highlight. I would recommend anyone else to come here, would love to come back.

Had a fabulous meal at the Hatch. We ordered the Christmas menu but could also mix and match from the Sunday Roast menu. The food was absolutely delicious. Proper crispy roast potatoes. The service was 10/10. Great atmosphere. Will definitely be going back. Highly recommended.

Halfway meet for myself and family member always great

We were celebrating our daughter's birthday with family. The staff were very accommodating, especially as we came in with a dog. Lily our waitress was delightful and couldn't do enough for us. Our food was delicious, we were not rushed and we made to feel very comfortable. We certainly will return as it is a lovely setting with very reasonable prices. Thank you for a lovely time 😊

As a regular reviewer of pubs across the UK this is truly the first time I have been shocked by the attitude of pub staff & probably the Manager. On asking if anywhere to sit & get a drink, ( late Sunday afternoon) I was informed outside only where the temperature was 3 degrees! Absolutely no intention of trying to help, or interested in the custom! Shame on the business I will not return & a warning to others clearly food is king here!

We booked a table for my daughters 21st birthday on 4th February 2025. They gave us a nice, private table near the garden. We had a really great evening! All the staff working that night were so friendly, attentive and helpful, particularly with the birthday surprises we organised! The food was also lovely with a great variety. Cooked to perfection, generous portions, tasty and hot. Couldn't have asked for more! Thank you.

We were at this place for the first time. All the tables were empty, we were offered the table we didn't like. We asked to choose the table and were told that it's not allowed there, we must only sit where they want us to be. We left the pub without order. The service wasn't friendly at all.

Had a lovley meal food lovley buf we felt a bit rushed one of our party had not finished her meal and they were clearing the plates while she was still eating. And then at 9 45 we were asked to leave as they were closing.

Fabulous 👌🏼 We were made to feel welcome from when we arrived until we left. The staff were attentive, without being intrusive. They were super polite, helpful and efficient. The environment was clean and tidy, we all commented that despite of a large number of covers, there was no outward stress from staff. Food was delivered at a good pace, and was hot and delicious. At no point did we feel rushed despite being i a specific time allocation.

When visiting my relatives in Basingstoke, I find the Hatch the best place for a good meal in good surroundings. It's very popular and worth booking in advance. Then there's still the problem of finding a parking space when you get there! The menu is varied and I have no difficulty in trying something new there, should I wish to. Meals are of very good quality and usually delicious. I've always found the staff here very friendly and totally efficient. The Hatch has beautiful gardens and outdoor seating should the weather be good enough. Highly recommended.

A lovely visit for Christmas drinks and meal. Loved the menu and wide specrum of drinks. Excellent service and quality of food was acceptable although the traditional Christmas Turkey mean was not perfect. The startes were excellent.

Staff are attentive, and the food is excellent for adults and children. Vegetarian options are good, as well as non-vegetarian. Plenty of space in the large seating areas. Cosy and welcoming. We had a relaxed lunch during the Christmas/New Year holiday, and the service was great. Sticky toffee pudding dessert is heavenly!

Steak was disappointing. well cooked but not the same quality as the opposition. Wine was expensive but the service was good.

A warm welcome into very pleasant surroundings. We had an excellent lunch from a choice of two menus. The waitress were attentive without being pushy. The food was served piping hot and tasted wonderful. Value for money was excellent and we would definitely return.

It's definitely an eating pub as opposed to a drinking pub Fully booked back to back on Sunday, it was very busy and noisy. Staff did their best and were kind and courteous. Most of the food was decent, my fish and chips was fine. The starter platter is very poor value for money. Roast dinners looked nice enough. Good, solid family fayre. I'd probably choose somewhere a bit less noisy next time though

We were thoroughly impressed with this local find. Unfortunately on a main road the venue does a fantastic menu of drinks and generous portions of food. We shared starters and loved the different dishes, although some came with four pieces others 3 which is always odd for sharing. Mains were at first glance expensive but worth the money as they are substantial. If you're not one with a big appetite perhaps skip starters. The real advantage was the service team. All so helpful and cheery. Thank you Aimee and your colleagues for making our evening so pleasant.

First time here for Birthday celebration. Food very mediocre. Had Chefs fish pie - hardly any fish, prawns still had part shells on them, peas were hard & cold & why serve a slice of bread with this dish???? The steaks were very poor tasteless & the salad consisted of mainly rocket & watercress. Been to other Chef & Brewer's before & never been disappointed.

We have been here before and we came back for a lovely lunch,the food was good as always and the service was excellent,the staff are very welcoming,we had a lovely sirloin steak cooked well done because I dont like to have any pink on my steak,and it was the best steak we’ve ever had,we also we had a fish pie from the specials that was absolutely delicious,and steak and ale pie,everything was so tasty and delicious. Thank you to the servers and chefts for the lovely meal.

Went for a birthday meal with my family. Have been previously earlier in the year and the staff remembered us and our dog which was lovely. JoJo was attentive and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble - thankyou. Warm welcome with friendly staff. Great gluten free choices on the menu and easily accessible allergy information on the online menu. Dog friendly too with treats, blankets and water on offer for our cockapoo. Only 4 stars for food because for the second time toad in the hole was not available. What we did have was excellent and our server LILY was friendly, efficient and helpful, 5 stars for her.

We had the most delicious roast dinner and desserts, we'd go as far to say it felt as though it had been prepared with care and love. The service was impeccable and coffee hit the spot (rare for a pub) well worth a visit. Sarah who served us was truly lovely. Our per person price is based on food and several drinks. The food is well priced, as others have said drinks are on the higher end, but not unexpected for a decent pub.

Enjoyed a very lovely lunch here on Saturday early afternoon. The food was fantastic, big shout out to the lamb shank shepherd's pie. The staff were all very friendly and attentive, with a nice relaxed atmosphere.

I used to go to the hatch as a child with my dad and brothers early 90s, always a family favourite. Lovely garden with a stream that runs through it,memories of playing "poo sticks" with my brothers., dog friendly, great selection from the bar and a great menu. Definitely worth a visit.

Lovely staff but because there were few staff on the service was a bit slow. We weren't in a rush so it was fine. Good food, overpriced drinks - £8.40 for two diet cokes. Good choice of food on the kids menu though and the kids meal had brilliant presentation and was a good size portion. I would come back!

I love Hatch, one of my favourite pubs. The atmosphere is lovely, not too loud but lively with people. The servers were friendly and efficient. The portions are big but not too much. I highly recommend the Duo of Chicken main and the mini Carmelised Creme Brulee Vanilla Cheesecake with tea or coffee. They will also customise the dishes for your dietary needs.

We were in the area today and just called in on the off chance of having Sunday lunch, fully expecting that we may not get in as we had not booked. Fortunately as the weather was fine we were able to sit in the beautiful garden. Service was great as was the food. I can honestly say that this was the best pub roast I have had in a very long time! Beef was well cooked and the vegetables were fresh and perfectly cooked. Would definitely recommend!

A lovely pub. First time I've been here since Covid and it's just as good as it always was. Lovely old rustic interior which makes it very cosy. Good service. Nice food and good selection of beers on the tap. Will definitely be returning

Wow what a meal. It was amazing complimentary bread at the start and then the mains came out quickly and tasted amazing. Only complaint is the area we were in was very dark and had to use phone light to see the menu and this was 3 pm in the afternoon

Went on Sunday 26th Aug mthe best roast dinner's we have had out, crispy roast potatoes huge Yorkshire pud lovely fresh veg, dessert was yummy too, my mum (95yr) really enjoyed it, Jess our server was one of the best.

Terrible food but nice atmosphere. Dry, overcooked and expensive for what you get - we had the lunch bites and based camembert. But inside pub and outside garden is very pretty, so great place for drinks

Only popped in for a couple of drinks, good service at the bag & plenty of space inside/outside, we sat in the garden which was chill. Bonus bike parking undercover next to the pub 👍🏻🚴

Handy pub for a retrieve meal...

I tried pre-booking a table online. If I were a party of two, it would provide me with a timeslot, but since I was going solo, it would ask me to look at an alternative date. So I ignored the online booking and popped down. I found the car park easily, but when I arrived around 7:45 pm, it was apparent it was busy inside. There were no markings, so people would park in some weird and wonderful spaces. The staff were super friendly and helpful. They offered me an eight-seater table, which I declined and asked if it was ok to eat outside. I felt bad taking a large table all to myself. The menu selection was great; I really liked the two or 3-course menu options. Ordering food was straightforward, and the person taking my order behind the bar was friendly. The only thing I might have liked to see was someone coming out to me to take my order, as I was very paranoid that someone would take my table whilst I was away placing my order. The food arrived pretty quickly, and it was tasty. This place is on my list to visit again in the future.

Beautiful location, very quaint and quiet in their outdoor seating area. Indoor facilities appeared all very clean and homely. Poor review for food as I was extremely ill with food poisoning symptoms hours after having a roast butternut squash, friend who visited with me wasn’t ill! (Have reported it to the restaurant)

Great little pub, nice gardens, lovely interior. Easy and spacious parking. Staff are friendly and personable. Would 100% reccomend. The food was all great, pints were decent too. If you're in the area or popping through, definitely worth checking it out.

Can get very busy at peak times but I guess that’s testament to how popular this place is, been a few times & never disappointed with the service & food no matter how rushed off their feet they are.

While The Hatch may be part of a wider chain (Chef & Brewer) it has a number of positive factors. It might lack the individual character of an independent, but it's in a good, out of town location, still easy to access; service is friendly and prompt, and the menu is a good range of standard English pub fare at a reasonable price. A good meeting place.
