Nice pub with separate cosy looking bar and restaurant areas. Food was very good, clearly not 'ping' food and reasonably priced (for these days...) eg haddock fishcake £13.95, Sausage and Mash £12.50, Steak and Ale Pie £14.50. Desserts around £6.75 with mini dessert (small but ample) and hot drink only £5.50. Drink prices very reasonable as well Merlot 250ml £6.95, Doombar £4.70. Close to Bombay Sapphire Distillery so good place to stop for a meal after visiting.

Had lunch at the Barley Mow with our Pilates Ladies today 6.9.24. The young waiter was excellent, very polite and charming, he remembered all our orders without writing them down and got them all right. The food also was excellent. I had the Sea Bass Risotto and it was one of the best I have tasted. We will definitely be going back.

First visit to this pub for a quick lunch. As usual I ordered the fish and chips, my standard dish to gauge the kitchen. It was a lunchtime deal (£11) for a main dish & drink. The size was small (but equivalent to price) and the batter crisp. Unfortunately the fish inside wasn't great. It had that solid texture you get after defrosting the fish under the tap. No nice flakey fillet. I wouldn't order this again, but the pub itself seemed ok.

We have not been in for a while so decided to take advantage of a free evening and enjoy a meal out. Some great options on the menu and had all vegetarian with the baked Camembert and veggie wellington. Excellent food with great service and very agreeable wines. To be honest I am surprised this place is not packed out as the menu and cooking way surpasses the average pub. Plus this is a pub that cares about the village community throwing on brilliant events for children at the end of term with magicians and face painters.

Went for sunday roast, wasn't that busy but took ages to take our order and when I asked if someone could take our order (about 20mins in) they looked at me dumbfounded. Food came after an age and the pigs in blankets were cold and raw. When they were replaced the portion size was halved (6 down to 3) (but they were taken off the bill). I ordered a pepsi max that never came but was on the bill. We were with our toddler and when i went to change him there was just an old changing matt shoved against a window. No actual changing facilties. Not enough space to change him on the floor or stalls so had to balance on counter where the sink was. Humiliating experience having to change a nappy so close to the sink where people are washing their hands while balancing my toddler so he doesnt slip off. Also no bins provided to put the used nappy and wipes in. Wont be returning.

I have no reservations of reporting the our experience at this Barley Mow was the worse we have endured anywhere. On arrival and on time there was no table prepared. We were asked if we would like to wait in the bar. The bar was stacked with dirty glasses and empty bottles. Our glasses were warm and there was no ice or lemon or lime. We were then given a table, which we feel was an afterthought alongside the exit door. People in and out and a cold draft was only the start. Talking of starters we were asked what we had booked. I showed them our booking on my phone and they took a picture of it. The starter, prawn cocktail was an example of what was to come. For £80 a head the presentation was poor. "When" the main meal arrived we were shocked to see just a pile of food on plates. The vegetables looked as if they were the leftovers. The parsnips and carrots were burnt on the edges and undercooked in the middle. The roast potatoes obviously reheated in a microwave. A small amount of gravey was present with no extra on our table. Not even the basics of salt and pepper. My venison pie was "just" okay but it was not without lumps of gristle and tough meat. My wife's meal was of a similar standard with a couple of thick lumps of turkey unceremoniously dumped on top of a pile of veg. The dessert was, we agree, acceptable. The young girl that served us was a treat. She was pleasant but rushed off her feet. We arrived dressed for the event as the dress code stated "business casual" but even the staff didn't quite make it. Sorry but, for a special meal on a special day at an extortionate price the experience was attroctious. Never again.

When we arrived, a few of the tables were dirty with food / mess from previous people and the staff hadn’t wiped them down, just left there. Went for dinner with friends 2 months ago. Chicken schnitzel undercooked and therefore raw in the middle (chef corrected this but came out of the kitchen fuming) no apology given by servers. Lasagne seemed suspect, as hot in parts but cold in others (microwaved?). The bill came out with us being overcharged. One staff member clearly trying his best (hence 2 stars for him, for service) but was evidently undertrained. The other staff on shift offered no apologies or support to their colleague and instead appeared rude and sarcastic laughing saying see you next time.

A very nice pub offering decent food - the Halloumi sticks in particular were lovely! It’s dog friendly inside too so that was a massive plus for us as we were travelling through the area with our dog. The only issue is that it quite often smells of smoke in the bar area as some customers smoke right outside of the door or open windows. Perhaps a smoking area away from the doors would be a good idea.

Very disappointed. We heard new management had taken over, saw the roasts were a reasonable price and thought we would have my Dads birthday meal here. The roast looks a good size, but the beef was a slab of very tough and fatty meat. Not even a steak knife offered, so he got some exercise tearing that apart! The veg was soggy and no crisp roast potatoes. The chicken was on the bone and tasteless. The duo choice of beef and chicken had the smallest piece of chicken. Tiny stuffing ball and no cranberry or redcurrant jelly. The pie is the same price and I have never seem such a small pie! ‘Chunky chips’ were oven chips and rock hard peas. :-o the pie pastry was rock hard and so dense. Hardly any filling at all. At least the little meat I did have, was well cooked. Smallest cauliflower cheese side too. Strange taste to it and hard cauliflower. Award winning sticky toffee pudding was dry. All in all, we will have to re-do Dads special meal, as that doesnt cut it. 👎

Booked a table for 6 at The Barley Mow for my parents birthday meal. We turned up to the quaint and cosy dining area and unfortunately there were no staff around to seat us, so we went off on the hunt to find someone that worked there. Stepping through into the bar area was like taking a portal into your local bruiser, as a load of locals stared at us as if they’d never seen another human before. As we stood waiting at the bar to ask whether we should just sit down and if so where, a local got up from his table in the corner, stepped in front of us and got served whilst we were ignored. We were finally seated at our table by the waitress/chef, who then let us know she was leaving next week so they didn’t have everything on the menu. She then handed us 1 food menu for a group of 6 to scramble over. Fortunately with 70% of it crossed/scribbled out it didn’t take long for us to pass it between the group. I asked for another minute to decide on our drink order, 10 minutes go by and she still hasn’t returned, by which point we decided we’d go somewhere else. Can’t comment on the food or drinks as we didn’t stay long enough, but the fact we didn’t says enough.

Had to sit in the bar side which meant we were forgotten. Ordered at 6pm but no food reached our table until 6.45. Then had to wait another 45 minutes for the mains. Was obvious the food had been sat under a heat lamp for a while as food looked old. There seemed to be only one lady handling all the food while the other staff members either went out constantly to walk the pub dog or just walked past us who didnt care. The pint for £1 with the curry was no longer a deal even though it was advertised on their website. Will go to a proper curry house for a decent meal next time instead of one that tasted like it came out of a jar.

The foods are not fresh at all, can taste they’re all frozen especially the beef, the Korean food is not Korean at all unless they think Korean food should be burnt the night before then heated up in a microwave, the chips are the same quality you get from Sainsbury’s basic. They also use the wrong type of rice for East Asian food as well and massive over use of coriander. The only thing they have going for them is that they sell expensive beer!

Stepping into The Calleva Arms is like finding an oasis in the desert of the ordinary. The pints are poured with such precision, it's as if they're crafted by the steady hands of a watchmaker. The atmosphere buzzes with a warmth that could thaw a snowman's heart, and the locals are so friendly, you'll feel like you've been part of the furniture for years. It's the kind of place where the beer tastes like a golden sunset and the memories linger like the froth on your upper lip. A true five-star experience!

Not very inspiring. Food was Bland. Side order of coleslaw wasn't enough for a mouse. Expensive for what it was. Not for me! Amazing how reviews can mislead.

Really nice pub. However, the dreadful "music" that is constantly playing in the bar is a real turn off. It seems like some radio station with awful music and endless commercials. Why why why? This banal nonsense is spoiling an otherwise lovely pub. Staff are always lovely. Update on 01.10.24. Internet says you are open..you are not open.. Heard you are closed Monday and Tuesday? So bad. If you don't want to run a pub, then do something else. You deserve to fail for treating customers this way.
