Cooked fresh, the cod was beautifully falling off separating into pieces. The the batter was not oily and lovely. The chips were fresh. The mushy peas were excellent. My family were so happy we congratulated the chef. Truly excellent.

Suffice it to say, that about 7-8 hours later, I was rushing for 'facilities'. First and last time I risk this particular service area. Harry Ramsden used to be a cultural icon. A Yorkshire beacon amid the grey American clouds of subfood and bugger king... shame. It got internationalised and thereby ruined.

We have just left after having lunch. Whilst the food was ok the Manager "Genti" left a nasty taste. What a very rude man. A member of staff said "I will be with you in a moment" no problem to us. Then he walked away and Genti stood looking at us. He asked what we were waiting for & we repeated what the other man said to which he replied "he is on a 30 min break do you want to wait that long or shall I serve you" all of which was said In a condescending way. I guess he may not be happy in his job but it's not the customers fault. I will be contacting their head office to complain.

Stopped off for a quick meal on our way home. Service slow at the counter. Bit worse was to come...... most of my chips were black! I have no idea what it was, but just yuck! My daughter’s were the same. Inedible. I took them back to be greeted with a shrug and offer of replacement.....with more black chips. I asked for a refund, which I got eventually, once someone had arrived from the Waitrose store (???). Even as I was returning my food, they were serving up the same to other customers! I hope that those chips weren’t mouldy/rotten/poisonous. Time will tell.

We were travelling back home after watching a great game of rugby at Twickenham and made our usual stop at Oxford services. Not having had a proper meal all day we decided to have a fish & chip supper at the Harry Ramsden’s franchise. The meal was freshly cooked on order so a slight wait ensued but it was well worth it, the fish was delicious. I am a firm tea drinker and in my opinion Harry Ramsden’s serves the best cup of tea on the motorway (they use Yorkshire Tea). Well worth visiting just for a decent cuppa.

Good meal as always. Regular fish was quite large too. Mushy pease served on main plate and not in a bowl as illustrated was disappointing as I hate mushy pease on my chips but ordered them for my wife who loves them.

Such lovely, accommodating staff at this Harry Ramsden’s. They altered the menu slightly and cooked fresh for us. Great service.

We rented a car in Heathrow and drove to Windsor, then to Oxford. We didn't even know about "Services" off the major roadways in UK, but we pulled off at Oxford services when we saw a sign. It's a good place to stop for a restroom break, as well as having several restaurants to choose from. We decided on fish & chips (and mushy peas, of course). All very good.

Motorway Service Station food does not have a good reputation, in general. Harry Ramsdens at Oxford services is EXCELLENT. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. The batter on the fish was melt in the mouth quality. What a treat sitting by the fountains eating these top quality fisth and chips. Thank you very much.

I stopped here with a couple of friends on Boxing Day at about 10.00 a.m. Great way to start the day, same as always here, delicious big filling breakfast, friendly prompt efficient service by Gentjan (that's the name on the receipt) and the other serving staff.

Arrived inside a more appealing than usual motorway services building to be greeted by the usual over priced rubbish. The options were quickly narrowed down to a Waitrose salad box or a Harry Ramsdens meal. I fancied something hot so went over to inspect HM's offering which seemed reasonabily priced by services standards. I was greeted by a friendly gent and I ordered the standard size fish & chips with mussy peas to eat in. After a short wait it was served on a real plate with a real knife & fork by a cheery lady. Staff were genuinely friendly, engaging, efficient and worked well as a team. Food was hot, tasty and freshly prepared. After eating the main meal I returned for a cup of tea which was served in a real pot accompanied by a real mug - great. Items for improvement: The fish would have benefited from an extra couple of minutes of cooking as the middle of the thickest part was borderline fully cooked. The included Heniz tartar sauce should be replaced with something of more substance as it is exceptionally bland. Please no UHT milk - replace with fresh milk sticks instead. Overall a positive, encouraging experience that shows there is some hope for motorway services.

Harry Ramsden's is in the main Welcome Break Services on the M40 at Oxford. In a few words my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed Cod and Chips the way we both remembered them, fabulous! Price each, £7.99, big meal served fresh and piping hot. Struggled to finish it. Fish was good quality and well filleted with no bones or skin. If you like good old F&C; served with a smile then go for it! Thanks to the staff who work hard to look after you.

The Bird In Hand is the name given to the bar inside the large marquee at Chinnor Rugby Club, which also serves the benches alongside one side of the pitch. Club members get a 15% discount on prices, but these are pretty good for non-members as well. On our first visit we sat outside but it was a windy day ! But it was good to see the Rugby club open and hopefully they will soon be able to start playing regularly again.
