Harry Ramsbottoms in East Lindsey

We go here every year as tradition, the food is very reasonably priced and budget-friendly, the quality isn't always amazing but it's definitely good value. There are 2 sections you have to queue to order a drink at a separate counter than you would order the food which is always a bit strange to me. They take cash and card payments. There is a large seating area available both inside and out. The birds are always flying inside and being a nuisance flying around again both inside and out. Staff are friendly and service is very quick. I believe it's now been renamed/taken over to Fox's Fish and Chips rather than Harry Ramsbottom but noticed no changes other than signage.

What a disappointment! First off, the place is called Fox's, not Harry Ramsbottom, so I had a devil of a time finding any reviews apart from an obviously 'sponsored' and biased one on YouTube. I don't mind taking risks, but this was a step too far. We ordered three portions of fish and chips with curry sauce. Whoever had the brilliant idea to pour the sauce over the chips and then plonk the fish on top needs their head examined. The batter underneath was soggy from the sauce, not crispy as one would expect. Not that it mattered much, as both the fish and batter tasted absolutely vile, reminiscent of old, burnt oil. The chips were no better - undercooked and nearly raw in the middle. All in all, if you're after tasty, proper fish and chips, I'd strongly advise giving this sorry excuse for an establishment a wide berth. What a load of rubbish!

Went here for some fish & chips. Very slow once ordered. Young girl behind serving food wearing loads of piercings over face not very hygienic. Chips were very light looked anemic and under cooked. Fish batter was stuck all on paper when opened not crispy at all. Probably would never come here again.

Young girl serving behind the counter had a right attitude on her, long wait for the food just for it to be mediocre. The spam fritter was absolutely disgusting, drenched in grease.

Now named fox's chip shop But excellent service friendly staff especially carly. the food was freshly cooked hot and good size the area was kept clean & very filling better than Harry Ra?sden 10 out of 10

It was ok. Very busy so the chips weren’t cooked for long enough. Reasonably priced. I’ve had much better but I’ve also had worse…

Average fish & and chips. The chips were a bit bland and not very crispy and slightly greasy. More batter than fish.

This used to be the best place to get fish n chips in Skeg and I always made a point of eating here on every visit. Fish was fresh, batter crisp and the chips hot and fluffy on the inside. That was when it was Harry Ramsdens. Since my last visit, it has changed hands and name and the quality of the food has plummeted and the cost has risen. I went in on a busy weekend day, (the town was busy, but this place wasn't, so that should have been my clue), and was served old, cold and soggy chips and a minute piece of cod in greasy, orange coloured batter. £8 down the drain. Will never go back again. There are many other places to eat that serve better grub than this place does now and because they aren't on the main thorofare, are cheaper. Very disappointed.

Ordered 1 Haddock, Chips and Peas and 1 Cod Chips and peas. Reasonably priced, the Fish were both very nice and a good size. The staff were all pleasent and friendly. The downside was the Chips were white and undercooked, the peas were almost non existent and watery and you can't buy any drinks from the food counter you have to buy them from a seperate counter which means an extra queue.

Fish was lovely,but the chips were the worst chips I have ever eaten,have us the squits the next day,young lad was a bit miserable,but I think he must have had the chips for lunch avoid the chips at all costs

Just had fish chips and mushy peas. Best I've had in ages. Normally I can't eat all the fish as it's just too greasy but not here i ate it all!! Frying new potatoes too. Amazing!

My wife and I had a hankering for fish and chips for our lunch whilst visiting Skegness and began wandering around looking at the prices and menus of the plethora of places that sold this meal. We were quite shocked at how much most places were charging, and were quite impressed that this place was selling fish and chips at a reasonable price. Admittedly the place didn’t look all that, with basic seating and anything but a homely feel about it, but the meals they were serving looked okay, so we took the plunge. We both got fish and chips and for the price it was surprisingly good, so we were more than happy with our choice of place to dine.

The fish was nice. Unfortunately chips uncooked and the peas tasteless.

Fish was frozen, cold in the middle. Also wasn't cooked properly. Chips, very old. Been cooked and then left, reheated for afternoon service. Left over half my meal. Wished went down the road. Would of got better food and service. Service was the worse I've seen. Seagulls would of been better to serve my food. But, even they wouldn't of eaten the food I got served. Avoid this place!!

Good value, decent quality food especially for the price. Handy central location right on the main road by a roundabout and near car parks, but very basic no nonsense setting. Some inside seating and plenty of outdoor seating. Service was slow on a Saturday out of season, with quite a queue and only two staff behind the counter. I'd imagine it's very different in season!

The service was good with very pleasant staff on a winter day. The chips were cooked well, and the family enjoyed them. The various added elements were okay from beans, gravy, and added sausages. The burgers, however, are to be avoided. Cheap price and quality, not sure what the beef content is or was... limited at best. Quick service and convenient.

If u want extremely dry food this is the place for you everything was extremely dry not very good at all shocking t b honnest

Fed the family of 5 for less than £23. The Haddock was the tastiest weve had all week and the best price weve found. The pies are very good aswell

Fish chips and curry sauce great value and well fryed

Now serving tough frozen haddock pieces with soggy batter. Earthy tasting chips cooked in stale oil and mediocre mushy peas. Has it changed hands? Never used to have to que, and also used to be a lot better when the fish was skinless. Has definitely gone down hill. I should have gone to 'Seaview Fisheries', which is always top notch.

Very disappointing. Had steak pie and not sure how long it had been held on the counter or how many times it had been reheated. Pastry hard, filling drying out. Won’t go back

Fish and chips for seven of us! Really tasty and excellent value for money.

Very reasonably priced and the food is nice. Just be prepared to wait in the queue as it seems a very popular place to eat

If you want sub par slimey fish and chips with over priced low quality extras this is the place for you …. Deals are not deals and you even pay for the polystyrene your cold chips sit on oh and the stick sorry I mean fork you can attempt to not enjoy your food on , viniger is watered down not just the staffs attitudes who are clearly not appropriate for a customer service role . Avoid .

Chippy in Skegness, Lincolnshire. Really not a good idea to reheat the chips , as you can see by the pic I had to leave half . You will loose customers doing this . You’ve lost me .

For the love of custard Harry how can you get sausage wrong....in Lincolnshire My friends who had fish said it was tasty and a fair portion,those of us who had sausage weren't sure what animal it came from.We all agreed the chips weren't cooked and tasted more like lard than potatoes I know we can't blame Harry for people's slovenly eating habits but the vacant eyed girl who was wandering aimlessly around with a cleaning cloth needed some serious motivating All in all pretty poor form Harry this is probably why the place up the road with the pirates is so busy

Came to this chippy after a bad experience from another retailer, we did que for 10 mins but was worth the wait brilliant staff very friendly and explained portion size and fish choice. The food was delicious and a very filling, average size chips portion and we got 2 pieces of fish which was unexpected. Sit in or outside cosy and friendly, thanks worth the wait

2 star at best ...very shall portions ...£7 for a very small haddock and chips. Battered sausage more expensive than normal sausage and chips mainly hard. Kids portions very small.

Drove over 80 miles today because the food here is usually good. However today's fish was very, very overcooked and very unappetising. We didn't even finish it.

Popped in on my way home from work because they had a special for haddock and chips. Food was great, fish was perfectly crispy. And for the price £4.50 the portion size was just right. Definitely recommend if you don't have a huge appetite or a huge budget for lunch.

Cod chips and beans for £6.95. A bargain price and was good as well.

Went here with my family don't like the way it's run first you make your order and then pay cash only they give you a number and you go and sit down about ten minutes later they shout your number you have to go and fetch it they just leave on the counter then you have to take it to this table to put salt and vinegar on it then back to your table other places put salt and vinegar on your table then if you want a drink you have to go outside to there kaos then have to take it back inside to your table all while you're food is going cold it's all to much it's all like a route march when all you what is something to eat and after all that you get starlings flying in and out yes not very hygienic but we found the food ok

Can't fault anything. All is top notch. What lovely staff especially our friendly purple haired server, who was the stand out person for us in the whole of our stay in Skeggy. Thank you for looking after us & making us feel so welcome. See you again soon.

The food here is amazing as it is all fresh and cooked to perfection. It also won't vreak your bank to eat here and for the average person it's £6-£7. 100% recommend this chippy over others within the skegness area.

Asked for large portion of chips and a steak and kidney pie, the young man took £5.95 then put the pie in a small polystyrene tray and put a few chips on top. I took the pie off and a few chips remained, Asked if that's a large portion, replyd yes. We had started to use this place but not anymore they say they are cheap but value for money is so poor, would highly recommend you shop around

We usually eat at the pirate based fish and chip shop 2 doors away but due to being extremely busy we headed into Harry Ramsbottom's shop instead. Offering outside or inside dining (we opted for the latter) we purchased our meals which were freshly cooked. I opted for cod and chips and my wife went for Haddock, chips gravy (both sauces included in price). Fish on both were beautifully cooked and a nice size. Now we come to price. Cod meal £6.95 with Haddock meal £5.95 both an absolute bargain. One slight niggle is to get a drink you have to go to the outside cafe. Overall though extremely impressed by the food and cost

Large cod freshly cooked. Wasn't expecting 2 pieces. Guess it wouldn't have fit on the tray otherwise. Couldn't fault it. My preference is for beans cos don't do mushy peas.

What a lovely chippy, fantastic chips and great selection of food at very good prices. Lots of room inside and outside for sitting relaxing and enjoying. Staff friendly and helpful. We'll worth a visit.

It was average for fish and chips. Curry sauce tasted like it had been sat for a long time. The fish and chips were too greasy for my my liking and had a bad stomach straight after. But then that might have been because my stomach has become quite sensitive since my operation.

Nice fish and chips, a little crowded with tables close together but the food is worth it. No toilets inside and with a indoor seating area aswell this isn't very good. My advice would be take your chips away and find somewhere out the way to eat them. Tower gardens would be a good choice 👍

What chip shop has no scraps!! Unbelievable!! Food ok, worth trying another place for fish and chips maybe one that take card payments as this place is living in the dark ages with CASH only!!

Food was good however no toilet facilities which goes against government guidelines for a place which has about 100 covers

Great location and lots of competition. We went on a Sunday and had a haddock and chips a cod and chips . Turkey Dino and chips and finally a fish fingers and chips . With a tub of gravy and curry sauce . The cod was nice and fresh with crispy Batter but the haddock was not so fresh and was chewy and dry with a chewy batter. Was surprised as the cod batter was so much better and was possibly the same batter and fryer. Maybe I just need up with one that had been sat for a while. Chips were ok but not the best . Soggy and black heads on them. Overall food was ok and avarage for the price. We had to pay cash so just about had enuf to pay. Also have to purchase drinks from a SEPERATE area . What was a little difficult as there was a big que for both food and drinks. Seating was plenty but could do with the floor area outside swept and more anti bird measures in place. We got a cod special a haddock special Kids Dino and kids fish fingers with a large slush and a small slush for about £20 Would go again to give another try but there is so much competition around I can visit 20 times a year and go to a different chippy each visit. The staff were friendly but having a rude conversation what could of been seen as impropriate and rude about the night before 🙄🤪 Seemed busy but so did most of skegg as it was a beautiful hot sunny weekend . Honestly has gone way downhill over the past year! Staff are more bothered about serving their friends then others and let them jump the que, even though we had a child with us! After telling people they only had chips and small sausages left they then put on fresh stuff for either staff or friends. As we was leaving 3 bikers walked in and came it with large sausages and chips, very clearly fresh! Used to recommend this place to everyone but won't anymore! Disgusting service!

Go to chip shop is Skeg, visit skeg 4 or 5 times a year and never miss a visit.

Never ever go there absolutely filthy bird droppings on tables inside and out as birds fly inside to eat scraps plus fish and chips are swfull find elsewhere to eat

Stopped in here a bit back. Chips were barely cooked, took them back, the cook poked them and ordered the female server to give us fresh chips.. they were also uncooked, pale and soggy. Pretty pathetic when you can't even cook chips.

Very dissapointed with the cod and chips. We use HR every time we visit skegness but on this last occasion the fish was full of bones and the batter was soggy. Sorry but wont be using again.

Wouldn’t have given this place one star but can’t go any lower. Visited today, ordered cod and chips which turned out to be inedible for both my sister-in-law and myself. The so called Cod was in uncooked soggy batter it being Cod was questionable and tasteless also the chips. Lukewarm, Curry Sauce like tasteless gravy,When my sister-in-law complained she was told it was spongy batter. Never heard anything so rubbish! Although we left full portions no offer of recompense/refund. No wonder they only take cash. They have your money! Starlings flying in and around - totally unhygienic. AVOID EATING HERE. Would not recommend to anybody- human or animal.

We visited Sunday 16th January, they were really busy so there was quite a queue, but it was definitely worth the wait. I had cod, chips and mushy peas and they were genuinely the best I've had in a really long time.

Went into ask what pies they had, quite rude assistant said they had none when they clearly did as loads were on display in the counter we were told they are for tomorrow........ It was 4.30 in the afternoon. We went next door to Trawlers Catch where we had an amazing meal with great service and friendly staff.

Went today, quite busy so had a bit of a wait which wasn't a problem. Chips were anaemic and just warm. Ordered cod the batter was thick and puddingy. Sorry but not the nicest chippie dinner I've had in Skeggie.

Must have visited on an off day yesterday evening (around 6pm). Was very busy with a long queue, which wasn't an issue, but was still expecting something good at the end. Fish (Cod) was lovely, but chips pale and under cooked (like everyone else's from what I could see!) and you had to try and put your own salt & vinegar on after they had piled everything on the tray. Why not ask the customer prior to loading the tray and also limit contact between customers handing the condiments, in regard to Covid 19. Obviously under staffed (trying their best) and trying to rush food out, resulting in some poor quality food and service. Shame to finish the day off like this and I hope things improve in the future here.

chips were not cooked they were hard and enemic and I ordered two cods they smelt very fishy I would say it was old fish. Batter was horrid scraped it off and the fish looked like it had curry o it. Worst fish and chips ever

Wow between the 5 of us we tried the fish, batter burger, pie and footlong batter sausage All were bloody amazing Chips were perfect along with thick curry and gravy Highly recommend if in the area
