Go to Dornoch camping twice a year over the last few years. The highlight of our trips is our purchases in this bakery. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The mince and potato pies are out of this world. So yummy. Not to forget the macaroni pies and goat's cheese with butternut squash quiche. Their biscuits, fiery ginger, pecan crunch and coconut crunch are delicious and really moreish. Just spent over £50 on biscuits and pies to take home. Can't wait til our next to Dornoch.

What can I say.. Lovely to be back in the Highlands again, I fell in love with this place when I worked away here a number of years ago. I have since returned with my partner and she's also fell in love with the Highlands. Harry Gows is a stand out bakery, it encapsulates much of what's missing when you find yourself shopping in the bland, generic high street chain bakeries. The food is always fresh, the staff are always friendly and based on our experience in Dornoch, you are welcome as a customer and not detested as a tourist, which I have found on occasion when visiting some other places in the UK . We look forward to our visits here and to the excellent quality products that are on sale, with good old fashioned excellent customer service.

Visited last week for the first time in a while (tourist) its a bakers I alway make sure to call i to when I’m in the area on holiday. Staff are always nice, but seem to answer your order with a question every time! For instance I ordered a bread roll with cheese & tomato, “is there anything else to order from the kitchen?” No thanks, can I have two cream doughnuts, “is there any other cakes with that order?” No thank. What pies do you have? “*****************” went through them that fast I could only remember the mince & potato which I ordered and was lovely. I do recommend you visit this bakery if you are in the area but cake selection is not great however what they do have is alway lovely. Now for the star I deducted from the rating….. How very disappointed to learn that they no longer sold my favourite ice cream!!! WHY? Your ice cream was the best ever but you no longer sell it! I can’t understand why, it was always a favourite with everyone I know. I even travelled to Bora in the hope they had it but no, I came away disappointed as the ice cream was another reason for visiting this little gem. Please tell me why you stopped selling ice cream. If you do happen to visit this bakers, get the cream doughnut, its to die for seriously, best ever…..

Disappointed by the lack of availability in this store! It seems that people call in there orders and these are put to the side however have never seen or offered to do so when in! Staff not very friendly and shop looks dull and uninviting! Ended up just going to the co-op to purchase most of the items rather than go into that bakers! No signs to tell you what all the items were which is not ideal when nearly the full shelf at the bottom is all pies that you can not tell what the filling is. Strawberry tarts are tasteless as well!!!!! Private owned bakers in Tain was much better than this chain! Went into the shop before 12 noon and there was only one sausage roll left!!!! Very poor! Needless to say I won’t be recommending. Shame as there rolls are nice - luckily the co-op sells them! This put me off trying any other Harry Gow shops.

You must go here, they do 3 different types of steak pie. Steak & mince, steak & potato and steak & gravy. We always go for steak & gravy, so much meat, well worth the money and the cakes are very nice too. Strawberry tarts are like they used to be, not totally covered in cream but lots of strawberry flavour. It’s our first point of call every time we go to Dornoch

Very disappointing I visited the Dornoch Harry Gow's on 1st September 2020. Very friendly service. But…They sell bread rolls and sliced bread like you would find in any supermarket. The pastries look like anything you would buy anywhere. I ordered a buttery, which I had to throw away after one bit as the thing was so dry.The worse is they seem to have been awarded ‘Scottish Baker of the Year 2019/20’. What a joke. I love bread and pastries and have tried amazing goodies from artisan bakers in Scotland. I feel this is an insult to these artisan bakers and I cannot believe that this Harry Gow’s chain can get such an award – this is truly a joke of an award.

So this has a very good rating for its bakery and food stuff, but if you just want a cup of tea forget it.Whilst its cheap it comes already brewed in a paper cup, they don't even give you the tea bag to brew to the strength you want. Because of that the tea was insipid and tasted like sweet hot water.Saying that the staff are very polite and friendly. For food yes.....for a cuppa only no.

My partner and I visited the Dornoch Harry Gow's yesterday and had no prior knowledge of the new policy of paper cups and plastic cutlery. Absolutely disgraceful to have a cafe in a Scottish tourist hot spot with this presentation. At the first attempt to cut my delicious sausage roll my knife split with a piece just missing my partners face as it flew erratically through the air. An excellent local bakery chain - I absolutely love Harry Gow's meringues. Melt on the tongue, (as opposed to shattering into pieces) crumbly, tasty, and absolutely the last word on meringues. The rest of their offerings, pies, cakes, bread, sausage rolls etc. are excellent too, depending on your personal taste. I can't resist a hot potato pie when visiting family in the area, you just can't get decent potato pies (or Scotch pies either) anywhere else, and certainly not in Dublin!

Taken it and walked away. I took a bite and wow it was dry as ever with no sauce inside (as ud expect with a tikka!?) And no salad as what i asked and paid for. Yet again NO COMMUNICATION or listening skills.3rd time again i go down (today) 27th june. Ordered same again.. and what did i get? A bloody chicken mayo roll? (It closes its doors for the last time this week having been bought over by an American company, a sad loss indeed.) We decided to have a wander around the town and my wife suggested we call into a small café/restaurant for tea and something to eat. First impression was of the friendly staff, we were greeted with a smile from a lady behind the counter on entering the premises. We'd decided on 'egg mayonnaise' sandwiches and a pot of tea. The sandwiches were delicious and well filled too. Being of a certain age, a visit to the loo was required before leaving. Spotlessly clean. Could we push tables together to make seating for 6? "Only if you put them back the way they were" was the cheery mein host response. This was followed by a narrative of what a bakery couldn't do in Scotland at the height of the tourist season. Soup, tuna and egg was all unavalaible; 20 yards from a Co-Op.When the food and drinks arrived they arrived with good grace and the quality was good.In conclusion, could be so much better with just a wee bit of effort.

I had enjoyed the delightful famous knickerbocker glory. The servings of ice cream and the layers were huge, couldn't be happier. However, the hot chocolate was a bit overpriced for what was delivered.

Lovely lunch with my wife on a couple of occasions. Highly recommend the hot chocolate and the coffees are pretty darn good too. Paninis, filled rolls, meringues and sausage rolls all sampled and found to be delicious! Friendly staff, spotlessly clean & good value for money.

Good class chain restaurant and take-away. Quality and range of food better than many. Staff cheerful and organised.

Pretty average all round nothing really special to the place, the food was okay as was the coffee. Scone was very dry and dull.

It was a hot day and we were in search of Capaldi's Ice Cream to try. The Free Wi-Fi was the icing on the cake.Staff friendly but the service not very fast. We had ordered Sundaes but the two that we wanted were not available due to the absence of strawberries. Fair enough, it was late in the day - we changed our order and had non-fruity ice creams. I ordered an Americano coffee, which oddly came with milk in a jug on the side. The coffee wasn't too bad but is Fair Trade and I have yet to meet a decent cup of Fair Trade coffee. Acceptable but certainly not a top notch brew. The sundaes were enormous. Enough to feed a small army. Not at all cheap though. The ice cream was good, Italian style. Smooth and not too rich. The cakes in the bakery looked fantastic but after four scoops of ice cream apiece, we were unable to try them out.One week later, on another very hot day, we were passing through Dornoch again and could not resist the pull of the ice cream. This time we tried for the Knickerbocker Glory. Again there was no fruit, and also no cream but they assembled something for us rather than refusing me the Knickerbocker Glory this time. The Strawberry ice cream was particularly delicious.NB Capaldi's Ice Cream company is now owned by Harry Gow's

Had soup, pie and a toastie. All not bad, but pie could have been warmer. Staff good but as it is also a bakery it can get very busy and cramped. Tables not cleared very quickly and have to stand in a long queue to order your food.Otherwise good for a snack lunch but give your self an hour.

the eggy mayo salad on a seeded roll is the best sandwich ever, try it. Add a little pineapple cake and you have the perfect quick lunch.

The staff are fabulous but I really can't understand how this baker has won an award as they don't make any artisan breads!! Just a standard loaf is all you get, no herb breads, no cheese breads, no organic breads just a plain old boring loaf, you'd be as well in Lidl.

Very Busy place for a sunny Sunday Afternoon. They offer pasties, soup, and ice cream. I am sure they have more to offer, but we arrived late and they were very busy. Staff was extremely polite and friendly.

Dropped in on the "off chance" as it was coming up to lunch time. It was a bit confusing if it was table service or to purchase at the counter. Anyway we found a table and whilst my wife sat at the the table, I went to the counter and ordered the food - then it came clear when it came to pay when asked "Eat-in or Takeaway".The menu selection to what was offered was average, but only as a lite bite. So if you want a large three course meal, this is not the place for you.The panini's we had were good and adequate. The mint ice-cream was huge and just as well we shared it. The cold drink selection was mostly bottled or tinned varieties with nothing special to write home about. There is free Wi-Fi available, but I am a bit unsure why you had to ask for the password - unless they change it frequently by routine. On the whole the experience was okay. Make sure you don't leave going to the loo to last minute, as there is only one uni-sex toilet available, which means there was a queue to use the facility at peak times.

This must be one of the worst pubs I have been in. Tables were filthy , floors were sticky and staff were uninterested. We ordered two drinks and could not find a clean table, then after using the toilets and actually feeling the stickiness of the floor , left. There are so many nice bars in this area, if you see it ... walk on by ! Giving it one star is flattering!!

Visited 3 times in 5 days and probably spent more on coffee than we did on merchandise (and Tiso is an excellent shop by the way). Excellent coffee, lovely cake selection and a truly fantastic full English/Scottish breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful. View to the Cairngorms outstanding and our doggy companions most welcome.

Dreadful food. After waiting for more than 40 minutes our inedible burgers arrived. Mine had 2 pieces of lettuce and a dry patty that was inedible until I added barbecue sauce. By the time the sauce arrived it was cold so even less pleasant. My husband's burger had bacon that was so hard he couldn't cut it. And the same patty. I gave an honest answer when asked about my meal and suggested they needed a new cook. It was the worst meal I have eaten in years. I'm told it used to be good. Avoid it at all costs.

Fantastic to have so many GF options to eat. We both opted for GF pancakes with bacon and maple syrup and a coffee. The coffee was perfection and the pancakes utterly delicious. Big, fluffy and just THE best find in Inverness! Thank you ❤️
