Found the coffee served too hot causing an initial bitter taste. Good surroundings and light upstairs. Food too manufactured for me. Warm welcome and a smile were optional extras. Not for me. Sorry.

Quick stop for takeaway cuppa coffee as need to catch a train. Long wait for nothing to place my order because staff was hanging here and there. After couple of minutes, finally they notice there is someone called customer 😅 While waiting for coffee, noticed place wasn’t clean and that thing putting atmosphere down when people were not feeling comfortable. Though nice place but need update to run good business. Hope in future i’ll see a change when around again.

Better Coffee - NEEDED! Our stop here was disappointing. - very slow with indifferent staff, - people hanging around the counter waiting for their drinks, - flavourless coffee and chocolate, - more expensive than the other coffee shops! We returned the chocolate to the counter as it tasted like milk, there was no apology but a question 'would you like me remake it'? Well, obviously - except he didn't and we had to go back and ask again. The seating area was decoratively fine, and the milk was nice and velvety but not enough to warrant 3 stars. Avoid, and go to one of the other shops in town.

Very good coffee, good food, ok service. The interior needs a bit of love.

This is an updated rating based on my most recent visit. The place really needs a deep clean. The coffee is fine, but it's not a nice place to be in when surfaces are sticky and the corners/edges of the rooms are just collecting grime.

The coffee is really good, the place looks nice and the staff is very friendly. Toilet is disgusting, and tables are often dirty, I paid 9.50 for two coffees that’s too much honestly, like why two coffees are almost a tenner not sure I will go there again

I can only assume it’s improved from the previous poor reviews, but I thought the place was nice. Nice atmosphere with rustic floors and tables, interesting layout with a good amount of seating. Great location for people/car watching from the large windows. I had the Brazilian Minas Gerais filter coffee which was lovely, and even came in a nice carafe and tasting note card. ≈£5 Staff seemed pleasant and were decently speedy even when busy. Worth a go, shame about the previous reviews but I had no issues here.

Coffee okay and pleasant young man serving, but once we were sitting down we realised the whole place is very grubby - sticky table tops, dirty floor & skirting boards, extremely stained upholstery (some 'disguised' with a dirty/hair-covered blanket). Judging by unanswered & similar comments over a long period of time the owners don't care. We shall not return.

Dog friendly which is great. The food (baguette, lukewarmed up) and coffee were OK but nothing special. Unfortunately the fabric chairs, floors and especially the toilet were grubby with lots of long-term ground in dirt. This is a shame as reviews have been saying it's dirty for some time and doesn't seem to have changed. I will not be returning.

The place has staffing issues, either lack of people or attitude. The tables are full of dirty dishes to the point they have run out of clean coffee cups. My coffee was served in a plastic cup, which could be a good thing considering the layers of muck on the tables. I have not had enough courage to order any food. Considering the choice of coffee shops in the area it was my last visit.

I won't go into all the details, but the staff really couldn't be arsed. One staff took my order but forgot the food part completely. When I asked the other staff 10-15 mins later their attitude was that it wasn't their fault, and they talked over the top of me when I tried to explain what had happened - obviously not really interested in solving my problem. It's not a massive big deal at all, but there are other cafes and coffee places in Henley which are small independent businesses, with far more polite and attentive staff. I'll go there in future.

Furniture is dirty, stained and torn. Staff didn't clear the tables when previous clients had left. Unbelievable, but clearly the company doesn't care

Nice staff and vibe is good but the cleanliness has a lot to ask for…there are stains from spilled sinks on the walls, seats, doors. Deep cleaning once a month wouldn’t go amiss in a place with so much traffic

Scrambled egg clearly not made to order. Is just heated up and arrived cold. Server offered to put it in the microwave. Very shoddy. Got a refund. Would avoid

Looks lovely from the outside but coffee and hot chocolate lukewarm and the whole place is grubby. We ordered avocado and poached egg on sourdough toast - when it arrived, the egg was clearly microwaved and overcooked (solid on the inside). When we asked the staff, we were told the eggs are pre-cooked then warmed up in the microwave. If that’s how you like your breakfast eggs, you’ve found your ideal eating place. Otherwise there are plenty of other places to choose in Henley. We won’t be going back

The coffee and cake was excellent. Service was very good. Very relaxing seating areas.

The toilet was absolutely disgusting. The roll I had barely had any filling and the Barista doesn't have a clue on how to make a flat white! Very unpleasant experience, far nicer places to visit in Henley-on-Thames.

Filthy not cleaned for months, tables not cleaned properly and to top prices are welll above local prices.

Just for reference...It's not Gluten free if you use the same tongs for everything...therefore I could not eat anything ...Coeliac disease is not a joke ..

When asked if they do any Gluten free food the assistant pointed at cookies and brownies then said " but we use the same tongs for gluten and non gluten " . .......Therefore you do not do Gluten free food !!!!!!! I did not eat but my husband did and his was alright

Coffee and tea was fine - not amazing - but the seating was filthy and general cleanliness was very poor (disgusting really for a food / drink establishment). The toilet area was also very dirty / in need of a deep clean. Won't go back.

Although from the outside this coffee shop looks lovely and welcoming, as we entered we were met with a completely different atmosphere from the staff. My partner is gluten and free and therefore we asked if they had gluten free bread for the breakfast, which they did not. Although this wasn’t too much of a problem, we continued to proceed to orders, where we were bluntly questioned by the staff about the fact my partner wanted avocado and scrambled egg, without the bread. Once the food arrived, we were even further shocked. The presentation was appalling. I personally ordered the Eggs Benedict, and quite frankly burst out laughing over the state of the plate once it was brought to me (see image attached). Further to this, the chef/waitress was very rude & shouted across the coffee shop to us about our food before it was even put down on the table. The area of Henley is so beautiful, but unfortunately our visit to this coffee shop has really let the village down. We will not be returning.

Waited seven minutes in an empty shop this morning for a coffee, only to be told eventually that no one on duty knew how to use the tills. Left empty-handed with time wasted.

It is always a bonus for us when a coffee shop is accessible and even more so when there is a Disabled toilet. Sadly after seeing food on the floor, a badly stained couch not suitable for sitting on and a disgusting dirty accessible toilet and bathroom area I asked a member of staff if they had a cleaner. I was informed they had no cleaner and had to clean the place themselves! A real pity to offer such grotty conditions - hopefully the Manager will read this and employ a plumber to get rid of the stained toilet basin and a cleaner to do a full service clean.

Coffee was nice & staff friendly. However, seating upstairs was mucky and torn & floor was dirty. We saw dogs allowed on seats & one licking from a coffee cup. We won't go there again.

Probably one of the worst breakfasts I’ve ever had. Nothin was fresh, poached egg had obviously been pre-cooked and stored, no seasoning, no apparent effort made to have food look presentable or appetising. The furniture is grotty and hasn’t been cleaned. The floors are filthy. Would not recommend to anyone. The Spoons across the road serves a better and fresher breakfast.

Very pleasant coffee shop in the heart of Henley. The service was professional and prompt. However, no smiles. Not unfriendly but not friendly either. The toasted cheese and ham was delicious, as was the veggie baguette. The tea was flavoursome, and the decaf cappuccino was very good. We had a comfortable window seat, in which we watched the world go by.

Very unpleasant. Went in for a takeaway coffee. Waited at the counter a good while before they came to take my order. No acknowledgment that I’ve been waiting. I thought, ok they’re busy. Then I get directed to collect my coffee at the counter. The person making the coffees standing 1m from me looks down while studiously avoiding acknowledging me. I mean it costs nothing to smile and signal you’ll be a minute. But as I’m waiting another good few minutes, I notice they keep sniffling - must have a cold. Nice. The deal breaker is when I see them touching their nose and then immediately touching the nozzle of the coffee machine. I said I didn’t have time to wait longer and left without picking up my coffee, but i regret not saying something about hygiene and asking for my money back. I thought this was supposed to be an upmarket chain? Never again.

Awful coffee shop. The coffee was not good, the food mediocre and over priced. Service was poor. I clearly had my hands full and was still expected to do multiple trips up and down the stairs with a young child to collect our food and drinks- Nobody offered any help. The entire place was filthy, and is in dire need of a deep clean. Avoid this place.

Shocking. Don't go here. Filthy everywhere. Tables, floor, toilets. Disgusting. Downstairs toilet including disabled were shut! Upstairs on SPIRAL STAIRCASE toilet, no paper, no soap, no drying facility. Never seen such dirt in my life! Ordered poached egg on sourdough toast. Miniscule crust end of loaf, no butter, HARD BOILD EGG LIKE RUBBER. Said that's how it comes to them!!? Hard BOILED is their version oof poached. So nothing cooking on premises. Nothing for a vegan to eat at all. Nothing for a vegetarian. Asked to change my food as couldn't eat the horrid rubber egg. Not a sorry. Asked for a tuna roll then, which was labelled as such on the counter. Nope. No tuna rolls despite a dozen there labelled as such! All meat, except pesto and mozzarella. I took that. When I took the top off it HAD MUSHROOMS in it. No mention of that, and I'm allergic to them. 😮 Ye Gods!!! It had cost me £6.50 so far to eat nothing! I asked for de caff tea which was slung at me all strong in a cup with no mention of milk. I had to ask specifically, and where should I put the removed T bag, as this all happened at the counter. No smile. No "sorry madam." No friendliness I went to sit down and all the tables were littered with used crockery and half eaten food. So cleared my own table then sat in the seats provided. The seats were so low the table hight was level with my collar bone! All I can say is don't. DON'T GO THERE. DON'T ORDER THERE. DON'T EAT ANYTHING THERE. DON'T NEED TO USE A TOILET OR WASH YOUR HANDS THERE. And don't expect to sit down once you've queued and placed your order, as they will keep bellowing what they have got ready, and you must act like a waiter and run to the counter and back several times yourself fetching each individual item. And at 76yrs old I didn't appreciate any of it. If I could rate on minus scale I would give MINUS 100. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Popped in for a coffee thinking it was a decent chain. Immediately we went through the door the entry mat was filthy and clearly hadn't been cleaned for weeks at least. The floor and tables were dirty and the fit out pretty worn. Sat outside and coffee ok but went to the loo before leaving, the seat was wet, there were paper towels all over the floor and the sink was barely draining. Shockingly bad so was not surprised to see other poor reviews when I looked later and not even an effort of an excuse from the owners / managers. AVOID there are plenty of better places in Henley

Overpriced, loads of dirty tables and took ages to get our coffee.

£4 for a flat white and it was awful. Place is messy and the coffee took about 10 minutes while you stand there like a lemon. So many good coffee shops in henley, avoid this one. It's always been bad. No sign of improvement yet.

This whole place was untidy and needed a thorough clean. The staff were friendly enough but I will not be returning!

Coffee was nice, but food was mediocre, and nearby tables needed clearing, even though staff were walking past them, they didn't bother picking anything up. Impractical table and chairs arrangement if you were eating a meal. The comfy chairs were far too low to sit up to the tables. Ended up using our laps .

A medium flat white (with 3 shots! - still not very strong coffee - very average) and a stale cinnamon bun for almost £8 - rip-off. Restaurant looks like it needs a clean - odd for first thing in a Saturday.

The toilets are a absolute disgrace and a public health warning. The units have not been cleaned for weeks

One of my regular stops but mostly cause the spaniel drags me in so why not grab a coffee too. Coffees alright, not bad, definitely not great. Service is always lovely and very friendly. Sophie in particular will go the extra mile - which definitely deserves the mention. Food isn't anything to shout about and seating upstairs may need a clean..

It feels like they’re shorthanded as the service was slow and queue was long. I ordered oat milk latte and got served with milk latte, but given the long queue, I didn’t ask them to remake it.

I ordered a coffee, It was just mediocer coffee. I managed to spill it on the sofa and the floor. Obviously used a napkin to clear the sofa the best I could before heading down to tell a member of staff, which she responded with (paraphrasing) "is the blue roll not doing the job, just use the blue roll and clean it" as well as to 'use the blue roll not napkins as the blue roll is cheaper' as well as mentioning the spray bottles (in which I assume is some kind of cleaning spray) and that there was nothing to be done for the sofas. I was shocked. Upon closer inspection, the upstairs was in desperate need of a proper clean, the floor looked sticky to the point it shined in places and the tables where sticky. Nevertheless Its unacceptable to ask a customer to clean the floor with nothing more than some thin blue tissue paper.

Worst croissant have ever eaten in my life, and very odd shaped coffee shop.

Delicious coffee used in the latte and very tasty cheese and cherry tomato croissant for a realistic price.

Drinks took a long time when there wasn't much of a queue. Whilst waiting for the food, the hot drinks got cold. Partner went down to ask for another as it was taking so long. That got forgotten about. I ate my chicken sandwich (no mayo available) and rushed downstairs to allow my partner and eat hers whilst it's still hot. As it was forgotten about again, I just asked for it to be made to go. The sofa upstairs was filthy with a rug put over it, coffee spilt on the floor and left. Just a bit a of disappointment unfortunately The crispy chicken sandwich was adequate, but no mayo available is a bit odd.

A company that think it is an acceptable excuse to sack staff for being under the age of 18 when you continue to advertise for staff with no caveat of being over 18. Leading from the front, maybe replace your manager in the Henley store and get someone in who knows how to take care of the important things like their staff. Your reviews may be better then.

The place is not the cleanest one. Piles if dirty dishes left on the tables so you have to clean up yourself it you want to sit down. The table was very sticky so we asked twice if someone could wipe it down, but the request was ignored. Coffee not great.

Went in for a coffee and snack on a Saturday lunchtime, so understandably busy. Service at till and by baristas was friendly. I found a barstool by window and waited until my order was ready. Was quite a while, but I could see there were others waiting before me. The sausage roll came first, unfortunately with a dirty knife which I asked politely if they could replace. Duly done and included a fork this time too! Finally the coffee was ready which I took immediately and sat down. An equally dirty teaspoon, so I just didn't stir the coffee. Food - sausage roll had been left in the warmer too long, one side was burnt and was very difficult to cut through. The coffee was just warm, not hot, so I assume the milk had not been heated to a good temperature. The quality of the food and coffee was fine, it just hadn't been prepared properly. Not sure if this is a franchise, but certainly in a high footfall area of Henley, so would expect better. Ultimately a managerial issue.

Made the BIG mistake calling in....I ordered tea and avocado toast with poached egg. They just leave your food got my tea...bit cold. Then looked up to see my food. Went up and there flies around my food. The girl said don't worry. I said there is a fly in my avocado. Please make it again. So ten mins later I got my food. The egg was warm the toast was stone cold. They had clearly heated up the egg and not bothered with new toast. So disgusting when I returned the food and asked for money back was told thats OK. No apology just a I didn't make it. I don't think cleaning or service is a priority. The floor is disgusting it looks as if it hasn't been cleaned or even swept. So glad I plucked up the courage to ask for money back. Honestly it was like was my fault. No apology.

Coffee wasn't great, piping hot and watery. Slow service. Unfriendly staff. Tables not tidied up. Not nearly as cosy as it looks from the outside. Perhaps they were understaffed, but this seems a common theme in these reviews.

Coffee was good, not great. When we were there the cakes had lots of fruit flies over them, didn't have a cake obviously. Whole place could do with a clean. Dog friendly though, so it gets 3⭐

Visited on Thursday 28th December. Was not familiar with the Harris + Hoole brand. Gave off independent vibes, have since discovered it is wholly owned by Cafe Nero. Ordered two drinks, bit pricey, hard to taste the coffee, dominated by milk and came out too hot. Found a seat, though cutlery from last people was left there and it felt dirty, with unappealing marks on the seats. It is cramped due to where the pick up station is. Not one to come back to.

Not at all friendly. Changed our brownie order before they’d served it to us but no offer to refund the difference. Rude waitress moaned at me when I said I was waiting for a white Americano - “we call it a long black” - why when it’s not long or black? And why so rude to me? Second waitress comes up behind and confirms I was waiting for “an americano” - so they don’t all call it a long black. Needless to say it was cold by the time she realised I was waiting for the coffee that had been sat there a while - a black americano she’d forgotten to put the milk with. Brownies were very stale, service rude and table arrangement difficult - avoid avoid avoid.

Filthy floors filthy toilets. This place seriously needs sorting out re cleanliness

Visited at 3pm on a Wednesday. Food and coffee was ok, but nowhere to sit. 75% of the tables upstairs were occupied by students working, but who hadn’t purchased any food or drink. Guess they are using the free wi-if? Tables were dirty and plates/cups hadn’t been cleared away. In fact there is a sign asking you to do it yourself. No up to Henley standard I’m afraid. The Spoon Cafe along the street is much better. Shame as this was my first visit.

They prepared the wrong food then only changed half the ham and cheese toastie because they said some had been eaten??? Cold drinks, cold food, self service difficult up spiral stairs, dirty self clean tables. Staff need customer service training as left feeling like a criminal, they can't resolve their own failings without blaming the customer.

We stopped in Henley on our way further south to have a break and have lunch. The cafe is in a handy location on the corner near the main road through the town. I ordered a tea and a coffee with two pannini's. They explained that they could not heat them as the cooker was broken but they were good to eat cold. The brie and cranberry one had 2 slivers or brie and a smear of cranberry. It also looked a little stodgy and I asked again if they were OK to eat cold which they said they were. They replaced the sandwich with different one and I accepted as our drinks were ready and we needed refreshments. My wife could not eat all of her sandwich as it was, as I thought, undercooked bread. There was a cleaning spray bottle and cloth near our table with a sign asking people to clean their own table. I wish that I had seen that before I ordered and I would have left. I will never return.

It gets extremely busy on weekends,hard to find a table at times especially with the Christmas trees !

There was a member of staff in training who was very polite and efficient. However, the person training her was the one who prepared my coffee and it was the worst flat white I’ve ever had- super hot, watery milk. Cake also plated when I asked for takeaway. Sadly ruined an afternoon treat.

Awful coffee. Looks like something out of a machine and tastes stale. Avoid.

Dirty outside tables. I had to take a full tray of someone else's used plates and cups back into the cafe so that we could use an outside table. Two other tables had used cups. The pavement also needs a sweep and clean. More than just one day's food lying sround I'm sure. The rather unfriendly staff member told me to place the tray by the napkin area which was already nearly full of other trays. Not sure why she couldn't take it from me. Or offer at least. Barely a smile or thank you. And when our food was delivered, not even an acknowledgement. Disappointing experience. Not particularly busy, so no excuses for lazy service.

Awful, feel cheated. Ordered ‘posh beans on toast’ told we had to wait as they don’t bring items to the table. Waited for a long time and then provided with dirty cutlery which we had to change. We were also expected to clear our own table. The bread was not toasted so immediately went soggy with the beans on top. We would never go again

Great coffee and food. Very friendly staff 😊. Definitely recommend to anyone within the area or just passing through in very good location of the town.

The cafe is very lovely, the staff go above and beyond to give the best service they can. Always a smile on their faces. Would go out of my way to recommend this cafe to anyone in the area/passing!

Awful experience. Order not completed, and then not prepared as takeaway as requested. Baguette didn’t have fillings as advertised. Complained to shift supervisor, who offered to get Tammy (manager) to discuss. Waited for Tammy, who didn’t bother to approach us. On leaving, Tammy was rude and aggressive - a man who appeared to be her partner had to tell her to get back behind the counter as her behaviour was so inappropriate. She was unprofessional and clearly not capable of providing any level of customer service.

Popped in here three times during our time in England. Nice little coffee shop with two floors and a decent amount of seating. Had a cheese toasty on one visit, a rocky road brownie and tea on a second visit and a pastry and a cappuccino on our final visit. The staff was very nice and the cafe as a whole was clean. A nice place to stop off and people watch while supporting an independent coffee shop.

Settees filthy but had to sit down on dirty covers to drink coffee purchased. Toilets damp smell and 2/10 for cleanliness. After use washed hands and used hand sanitizer to feel clean. Pls clean those settees. Visit yesterday - would not visit again

Pleasant coffee shop and staff friendly

This is a small coffee shop on two levels. I placed my order with a pleasant staff member. The server making the coffee was less civil. The coffee was good and the toilet was clean enough. The upstairs tables were a bit dirty and had not been cleared for a while.

I wanted to try this coffee shop for a long time but it was always closed. One Saturday I got the opportunity to try it. I tried the earl grey iced tea which was okay. It was refreshing but the taste was nothing exceptional. The interior was nice but I’m a bit dirty (crumbles on tables and toilets needs cleaning). I don’t think I will come back but it was nice to try once.

We came in sopping wet having got caught in the rain. They were very nice, gave us some kitchen towel to dry ourselves and served us some tasty treats. Would recommend the cinnamon cookie - delicious!

Ordered eat-in black americona, went to toilet came back they prepared it as takeaway. I said I didn't want that, lady there said that she can transfer to another cup. I said Taste is not the same if your transfer. I just wanted she realize her mistake and do it again. I had to argue with her bcz she didn't offer me any other option. She saw that I am not taking she prepared another one. But to be honest it was worst coffe I have ever drunk. Don't know how she prepared! I only wanted a peaceful coffe time, she violated. horrible attitude! they did this before! 6 months ago! Now I am gonna order a caramel machiato from Starbucks!

I had a flat white and a tuna melt toastie thing and it was quite good. the staff were pretty safe too, thanks! It was a little pricey but ey cant complain because it was tasty.

The coffee was lovley, but they really need to go back to the drawing board for the vegan banana and chocolate cake. That was rock solid and I could use it to knock nails In to wood, no joke

Walking past Harris and Hoole, thought time for tea and cake, but front window was occupied by someone with a dog both sitting on the sofa. why are dogs aloud in a cafe and why is the dog sitting on the sofa? thought we would go somewhere else. I do not want to sit where a dog has sat, especially next to the table with food on.

My favourite place for coffee in Henley. Tammy and her team are fabulous, as are the cinnamon swirls (especially when fresh out of the oven!). Even my dog loves coming here and even if we're just passing tries to drag me in! Great banter, great coffee and delicious food!

Had to wipe the table which was covered in coffee and rubbish from previous user. HH don't wipe and direct you to cleaning spray and DIY. Spongy microwaved baguette not crisp as you'd expect. Looks like it was microwaved. Won't go back as Henley has lots of choice.

First time visiting and safe to say we will not be returning! Ham and cheese croissant had a long hair in it and the knives and forks given for that and a hot baguette were all dirty! They did replace the croissant and the cutlery, but we were hesitant to give it another go. You’re expected to crowd around a corner of the serving area to collect what you’ve bought and then they expect you to put all the dirty plates, coffee cups etc in an area where there are people sat. The worst Sunday coffee experience we’ve had. Steer clear in my opinion!

If you like.: service so dire they won't bring food to you or tell you when it's ready, when it's comes it's lukewarm fyi. If you like the vibes of arrogant entitled henley mums who have no idea of courtesy when using the stairs. If you like service with a smile.. don't come here. But the food was very well priced for henley so I guess I can accept the rest 🤣🤣 Review on food: Avo on toast, the beans on toast and Earl Grey for a bargin price in henley and good quality.

Good service and coffee but walnut carrot cake dry and only walnuts are the thumbnail on top.

Every time we use this place we have to take my wife's blonde moka bake as they don't put on the white chocolate curls that are shown on the adverts, if you are going to show it then you should serve as the menu,

My relationship with the H&H team started in lock-down as they were the only coffee shop open at 7am as I excercised on my road bike! All the staff are SUPER friendly and they do a cracking flat white ☕ and warm croissants if you time it just right. Merry Christmas to my favourite ladies but sadly I'm now in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc so a little too far so just a virtual HUG 💚💚💚 Neil

Today, I had the worst experience in this place. We arrived at 4:30pm and they normally close at 6pm. They did not want us to sit upstairs as they were going to close soon....then we sat downstairs. I did not have a chair to sit down and one of the staff members put aside two chairs. I took one, the manager told me off and said i could not use the chair, as it belonged to another zone....ridiculous treatment. They were just focused on preparing the place for closing and not on customer service. Really bad service. Maria

Lovely cake and coffee, good place to work from as well but there is no wifi.

I had a delicious iced rooibos with watermelon- very refreshing and quick service!

Spent £4.10 on a medium sized latte. It was only 2/3 of the way full as the rest was foam…the lady also just left my coffee on the side and so I wasn’t sure whether to take it or not.
