I’ve been to Harper and Finch a few times now and every time it’s been wonderful. I took my grandparents last time and they absolutely loved it! The service is always so friendly and the food will never disappoint - especially with the size of the slices of cake on the afternoon tea! We’ll be back very soon!

Me and my 9 year old daughter came to this lovely little cafe for my birthday. We enjoyed afternoon tea, staff are always welcoming and friendly. Love a look around the gift shop aswell. The cakes are to die for! Thank you and see you soon.

Many thanks to the staff who helped us celebrate Mum's 80th Birthday on Sunday. We hired the room and were treated to a lovely buffet and delicious range of cakes. The service was brilliant and we couldn't have wished for a more suitable place for Mum's special day.

You always get a very warm and friendly greeting from the staff and it is such a relaxing and calming place to enjoy a drink/bite to eat. Service is quick and efficient with a very good selection of items on the menu an of course yummy cakes to choose from.

we visited as in the area and were amazed at the lovely gift store inside. Some beautiful items including handbags, keepsakes, jewellery all good quality and value! The staff were pleasant and nothing was too much hassle. Really enjoyed the atmosphere, fantastic selection of drinks, food and cake!! Big winner for us will definitely be back again soon!!!

A unique tea rooms which compliments the town perfectly. Greeted by friendly welcoming staff. The food was superb, especially the tomato soup. They had plenty of gluten-free alternatives for my sister which she was over the moon with, and nothing was too much trouble. All together the food was amazing, the service was unmatched and we will definitely be visiting again.

This little place is so welcoming. Their food is delicious, from the moment you walk through the door you're welcomed with open arms and the staff can't do enough for you. If you've not visited this little treasure trove then you're missing out. Their afternoon tea's are fabulous with lots of scrummy choices!!

I bought my mum a voucher for Afternoon Tea for 2, so this was our first visit here for food. Everything was perfect, friendly happy service, beautiful fresh food, generous portions, lovely setting, nice atmosphere, cant fault a thing. The gift shop is also a lovely treat with a variety of trinkets with a vintage feel. Will definitely be returning. Thank you for a lovely afternoon.

We were looking for some breakfast when we stumbled upon this gem of a place. Wonderful service in a nicely decorated setting, the lady was very helpful, polite and friendly. The food was gorgeous, beautiful soup and the drinks made to perfection.

My friends and I had a wondeful Afternoon Tea here. The sandwiches were lovely and fresh with salad and grapes to go with them. The scones were delicious. The cake was light and moist. The service was excellent. Definately a place to visit again.

Harpur & Finch is one of the best tea rooms I’ve been to! I had a lovely afternoon tea with family to celebrate my new job. The staff are lovely and service is brilliant. Such a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. Definitely recommend.

We have had both eat in and takeaway afternoon teas and they have always been brilliant. My little girl absolutely loved her special afternoon tea with squash in a teapot. The tea rooms are lovely and the staff are great. Will definitely be back again!

Saw this attractive cafe some time ago but managed to get in today. The decor is outstanding, with an ingenious use of old back yard doors - now painted and repurposed. The gift shop presents many ideas for that potentially difficult 'what to buy gift'. Tables towards the rear of the shop offer a range of seats. The menus offer 7 teas, 7 coffees, 5 more hot drinks. Many sandwiches, toasties, paninis and wraps are available. Terrifying triple layer sponge cakes are available if you dare to venture there! The choice as to what to have is difficult. So much on offer.Service is brisk but friendly. The huge pot of (tea with real leaves) arrives quickly, with food arriving shortly after. The toasted sandwiches (on granary) were delicious, the side salad so fresh. We chose beef, blue cheese with caramelised onions. Oh so good.Yes, the calendar was still on February, but that's due to those running this little gem having their whole attention on what matters - smooth running, swift custom and such good food. Thank you for a great visit today - the first of what I hope to be many in the future.Toilets all as they should be, albeit they are up a few steps.Afternoon tea is available, apparently without booking, £15 per head, last orders around 3.30pm.Two toasted sandwiches and pot of tea for two came to £15.40. Great food - great value.

Seriously, there is a hole nearby that will blow your mind. I mean a real show stopping hole in the wall and not the kind you used find in 1970s Manhattan. No, this hole is big enough for a person to climb through. After your done with the hole, pop on over for a sandwich and tea to restock on the necessary energies to once again traverse the hole in the wall.

This is our second visit to harper and finch,we could not fault this little gem. Food and tea is amazing,well enough food for a adult and the children. The staff are so polite and friendly. Would strongly recommend a visit. We will be visiting this little gem again. Xx

New owners have taken over the running of Harpur & Finch but nothing has changed, lovely relaxing atmosphere with great service from the staff, long may it continue.

Took my mum here for an afternoon tea for her 82nd birthday she absolutely loved it the staff even sung “happy birthday “ too her and gave a small cake with a candle in she was chuffed to bits with it. There was plenty of sandwich’s and scones and cake with enough tea to drowned in it was great

Warm and friendly welcome to this vintage style tea rooms. I had the lovely Carrot and Coriander soup served with granary bread and my sister opted for the toasted Turkey and Cranberry sandwiches food arrived beautifully presented. We even had room for a slice of the delicious cake, loved the Salted Caramel Cake x I have been to this tea rooms many times with friends and relatives love it. Afternoon tea is the best.

Tea rooms hidden at the back of a beautiful vintage shop. My friend introduced me to this place and I have been a few times now and every time it has been amazing. I took my mum and my two girls for Mother’s Day and we all had afternoon tea, the mums received a flower which was nicely wrapped, such a nice touch and the price did not go up like other venues on Mother’s Day.

Came into ilkeston for the purpose of antique hunting. Spotted all the lovely vintage items in the window and to my surprise, it was a tearoom the happened to sell lovely little nic-nacs.

Really nice place and really nice food. The only reason I’m not giving five stars is because it’s VERY expensive compared to better quality tea rooms and the cakes are not made fresh they are ordered in. Would go again when passing through Ilkeston

Needed to pass some time in Ilkeston. The Parlour was recommended by a gift shop we visited. The journey down Bath Street was taxing but journey back up very challenging for us "oldies". Our experience in The Parlour unforgettable because the decor and crockery took us back many years to end of WW2. Our Earl Grey tea was actual leaf with tea strainer, Lemon and served in beautiful China cups on tables with real tablecloths, we also had tea cakes (super). The staff were very attentive and complimented the place, all very nice, and worth another visit if we happen to be in Ilkeston again.

First visit here. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. On a plus note the tea was very nice and there really is nothing better than a cup of tea in a china cup. The scones were nice, would prefer raspberry jam to strawberry but that’s just me. The afternoon tea was very average, the shop bought cup cakes let it down, I expected homemade cakes. I think £15 for this afternoon tea is way to high. The place is a great little tea room, very traditionally decorated but on closer inspection it seemed a little bit grubby to me. I would call in for a cuppa but if you want afternoon tea I’d recommend Basilia at Langley Mill or Eats n Treats in Eastwood.

I have been visiting Harper Finch on an almost daily basis for the last 2 years for my morning cappuccino to break up my walk. I can’t praise them enough the staff are so accommodating and friendly make you feel so welcome. They serve such lovely sandwiches and afternoon teas, tea cakes, cakes, soup. On the way out I always browse round the shop, so many interesting items.

I visited Harpur & Finch with my mum for afternoon tea. Whilst the food and drinks are pretty much the same quality as previous visits under the previous management (minus the soya mocha which was bland and not foamed enough) I found it strange that the staff didn't bring the card machine to the table to allow customers to pay, yet had customers stand at a position in the tea room that was next to a customer used table. Granted, the customer used table is next to the till point, however it was very uncomfortable to sit and eat whilst surrounded by other customers, either waiting for their change or waiting to pay. The staff could have advised customers to take a seat and they'd be over with the card machine to allow payment but on this occasion, that did not occur. The staff were friendly yet slow (it was not a busy afternoon). I don't think we will visit again.

On the High Street lies H and F. The shop is full of unusual and querky gifts, whilst the tea room provides delicious refreshments; afternoon tea is a lovely present to treat somebody!

Recently visited for lunch with a group of friends. This place is pretty and tucked away at the back of the gift shop. Most of us had soup, with one friend having a sandwich. I was a little disappointed with my soup. It was luke warm and just over half a bowl for £5.95 although the bread it came with was more plentiful.I also had a latte which wasn't the best tasting i've had. Maybe i chose wrong but this place didn't shine for me. However, the staff were nice and friendly.

Visited today with my daughter and toddler grandson. The young ladies who took our order and served us were charming. A high chair was brought over very promptly. Food was well presented; we were particularly impressed with that presented to our little one. The bread was lovely and soft with the crusts cut off and the egg mayo unspoilt by any cress. Choice of teas was nice and the cakes on the counter looked tempting.

I came here with my daughters just as we were passing through town running errands. We were immediately drawn to the tea rooms which were quite small and busy however the lady (who I imagine ran the shop) took great care in finding us a table. We had a cream tea that came out in beautiful vintage china the ladies made a fuss of my girls which they were thrilled with they were then provided with a craft box to make unicorns with as I enjoyed my tea and scone. My six year old then turned around and said ‘this has made my day amazing’. The staff were really attentive, the surroundings were really pretty it was clear to see that so much effort went into making the shop well decorated and in keeping with its vintage theme. I could imagine booking out a table for mother’s day, birthdays or for a special treat for my girls. Definitely worth a visit, il most certainly be coming back soon for more treats and tea!

I visited this tearoom last Friday lunchtime with my wife, daughter & 2 grandchildren; it's the 2nd time I've been and I rank it at the top of all the tea rooms/coffee shops I have previously visited. The staff are wonderful; polite, friendly & were great with the grand kids (4 & 7 years of age). Great service & food make this a very pleasant place to go for a relaxing, nostalgic experience, with 40's style decor & period music playing softly in the background. If there are a few of you it's best to book to avoid disappointment. Whilst I live in Derby, I will be visiting again at each & every opportunity.

A wonderful tea room, thoughtful and detailed, informal service that is fast enough for a quick bite yet not pushy at all if you would like to take your time. Delicious assortment of teas (or milkshakes for the kids served in teapots so they can pour) and sandwiches, sweet and savoury deserts and scones with clotted cream and jams are beautifully displayed and taste just the same. Great value!

Have been to this cafe several times and you always get a very warm welcome the food selection is lovely my favourite being the Carrot and Coriander Soup or a delicious slice of Carrot Cake - today I saw some amazing afternoon tea selections coming out of the kitchen and we all sang 'Happy Birthday' to one of the customers.

My daughter and I have just returned from our first visit to Harpur & Finch. We had a lovely afternoon tea. The sandwiches were absolutely beautiful made on the freshest bread I have tasted in a long time! I can’t comment on the cakes as I was too full and they have come home! The children’s afternoon tea was really cute with the milkshake served in a tea pot. The addition of cucumber and strawberries meant there was something a bit healthy to accompany the cake. The atmosphere was nice and relaxing and the decor beautiful. Everything was served beautifully. The staff were very attentive and happy to welcome children. Colouring books and crayons were very quickly provided on arrival.

Called in after asking a local for recommendations and found this lovely gem. Me and my boy really enjoyed it.

Lovely gift shop with an amazing vintage themed cafe offering scrumptious cakes and light lunches. I had the delicious carrot and coriander soup whilst my hubby enjoyed a homemade scone with cream and jam. Need to visit again soon and sample the afternoon tea selection. In the middle of Ilkeston, of all East Midland ex mining/factory town, decided to make a visit with the family to this Tea Room. First of all it has a Boutique Shop to walk through and have a good peruse, then it is the Tearoom of bygone days - something like the TV Series "Goodnight Sweetheart" with songs from Marlene Dietrich. The four of us had a delightful set Afternoon Tea with Tea or Coffee and Hot Chocolate, but I opted for an old fashioned Ovaltine. Set Tea included Sandwiches, Sausage Roll, Cheese Straw, Crisps, Scones with clotted cream and jam..Also some cakes..Meringues were gorgeous! £15 per person was okay, but ideal on occasions as it could get pricey. Service was relaxed and informal, there are other Afternoon Teas which they offer and did look nice from what I saw. The Boutique shop was nice but bit pricey. Staff are lovely! Ideal to book should you wish to go on a Saturday Afternoon! Go try it!

Coffee and cake served in/on a china cup and plate in a very relaxing atmosphere with excellent service from the staff, always a nice touch to receive a warm and friendly smile when being served.

We visited as a family and were delighted with the service. The food was fresh and delicious, as was the tea. My 11yr old also loved the experience. While the cost may seem expensive when compared with 'fast food' retailers, there are no grounds for comparison. An hours quiet head space with your family is hard to find. The food was plentiful to where we couldn't quite finish everything. The staff were polite and courteous and more then happy to wrap up the extra cakes for a treat later at home. Well earned 5* and we'll definitely return.

Located in an old retail premise the tea room seems like an attempt to create a nostalgic view of a past time. It felt a little like being on the set of “Heartbeat”. Signs of the original structure are still there, buts it not hard to suspend belief, as long as you dont look at the suspended ceiling. The location is not far from the high street parking.

Went here on a Saturday. It's closed Sundays. Lovely cream tea. They also cater for children with sandwiches and afternoon tea. They also cater for vegans. Our vegan child loves it there. They have vegan butter and vegan cheese as well as soya milk

We took the grandchildren here for a meal in October. A lovely ,quiet , ambient place. The food was nicely presented and tasteful. I do think they should provide more vegetarian choices.

We use Harpur and Finch whenever we can. It is the business! Good quality home made food goodies and always served with a smile. It is themed on the latter and post second world war era and really captures the spirit. This was particularly evident when we visited this Remembrance weekend. It sort of reminds me of the old Lyons Tea shops that were around when I was younger.

Lovely old fashioned tearoom with real China cups .This place is very friendly and it's been decorated tastefully.i would've loved to taken an older relative there for them to relive some memories , it's got the old music playing in the background and the staff wear traditional aprons etc.We had tea for two and toasted tea cakes .yummy
