Pub, Restaurant, Hotel. Seating areas, tables and 'booths'. Well run. Staff seat you, take your order and come back to check everything is ok. The food was very nice and great value with 3 courses from the fixed menu at £24.95. There was a good choice. I had chilli beef tacos to start, a flat iron steak with garlic butter and skin on fries main, and lemon cheese cake dessert. The deal included a drink and I had a bottle of Peroni. Olivia looked after us, and was cheerful, helpful and attentive.

Came here on Monday for our 63rd wedding anniversary.had the best meal we have ever eaten in any restaurant. Beautifully presented and absolutely best taste ever. Our room was really nice and the staff were all friendly and worked really hard I definitely recommend

Such a beautiful restuarant. Me and my partner never really get the chance to try new places for a meal out, and we stopped by here spontaneously, given that my partner always drives past this place everyday during work. The service was lovely, everyone was so polite and welcoming. I usually feel quite overwhelmed in new places, but I got on very well with the atmosphere, and the staff were not overbearing at all. I believe our server was named Driton, he was very friendly and professional, and he made us feel incredibly welcome. The food was beautiful also, tasted amazing, and the portion sizes were perfect. My partner (a major lover of chicken wings) was in awe at the size of his chicken wings starter, he was very impressed! We'd say it was the best 'first time' visiting a new restaurant that we've ever had. Definitely going to be going back as soon as we're able to plan another night out together!

I popped in for coffee and a breakfast side while I waited for my car which was having work done at the garage. Although it tasted nice I had 2 ingredients missing that were advertised on the menu. I didn't get a checkback or get asked how my experience was when I went to pay stuck a service charge on. The waitress who served me was very polite but needs a little training on how to check how people's food is while they were eating . Having spent many years in hospitality I found this a little odd that nothing was checked. Coffee was luke warm at nearly £4

First visit for breakfast, highly impressed, nice clean environment, happy staff, food served quick, with plenty of options, will return to sample the steaks, highly recommended.

My family and I, including my husband, my mum, dad, and our two children, visited for Christmas Day lunch. The booking was made by my mum, and it seems there was some miscommunication or confusion between her and the manager during the booking process. I believe there may have been mistakes on both sides, but despite these initial hiccups, I felt compelled to write this review because of how exceptional the overall experience was. The food was absolutely excellent – beautifully prepared, delicious, and served with care. What truly stood out, however, was the incredible customer service provided by the entire team. It was Christmas Day, an exceptionally busy time, and I imagine the staff would have preferred to be at home with their own families. Yet, every single member of the team was warm, friendly, and attentive. They remained upbeat, helpful, and professional throughout our visit, and their teamwork was genuinely impressive. Despite the initial mix-up, our experience was overwhelmingly positive, and I cannot praise the staff enough for their hard work and dedication. I would absolutely recommend this venue to anyone considering dining here, especially for a special occasion. A big thank you to the entire team for making our Christmas lunch so enjoyable and memorable.

Had Christmas business lunch for 17, first visit for this event & atmosphere & staff were excellent. Food was well presented & Turkey was proper crown breast served thick & extra side orders of veg if needed 😋

We had a lovely evening dinner to celebrate. The steaks were delicious albeit a bit expensive, but worth it for the service and atmosphere.

Absolutely wonderful place. The room was perfect, had everything needed; even fresh milk in the fridge. Really well considered room. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Food in the restaurant is good too. Great find.

Just had the two breakfasts for £15 plus the best cup of tea I’ve had in ages from a restaurant, the breakfasts were cooked to perfection lovely and warm with quality ingredients, the staff were great, warm and friendly, lovely clean and tidy restaurant the sitting area was lovely and warm, definitely recommend and definitely going to return

Ashely who served us last evening was good, polite and professional. The food was good but my steak was a bit tough and cold. However, the atmosphere was good and the chap who showed us to our table was also good and professional. We high recommend Harper's Steakhouse and the midweek menu which is great value for money.

I grew up in Lower Swanwick and went back recently. I thought it'd be good to see if the Spinnaker was still there and took my son to see. Well it wasn't, as per progress, instead there was this souless hotel thing that charged us over 7 pounds for a small portion of chips and a hot chocolate. They didn't want us to sit at one of the tables even though there were many free and suggested we perch ourselves at the bar. There service was slow and our waiter couldn't have been less interested in us. I had to go and remind her that we were still waiting. The place wasn't even busy. I guess we weren't rich enough or didn't look posh enough. I will never go here again nor would i recomend it to anyone. I'd rather fry my own frozen chips from iceland than eat their half cold prepacked frozen chips. They have ripped the heart out of Lower Swanwick.

We come here every now and then for dinner with the family (kids call it "The Meat House"). Steaks are great, done exactly as you wish. Reasonably priced - a good steak has its price. Selection of side dishes is good, and there's plenty to chose from if you fancy something else. We were served by the very attentive and friendly server Ashely, great job and really enjoyed it! Definitively recommend it.

Hostile and humiliating treatment by the management

We have just stayed for 2 nights in a lovely room, clean and chic. Everyone was super helpful and very nice. Food and drinks were good. Location is ideal, only 5 minutes from the motorway. The surrounding area is also very nice. 10/10

Great burger and chips nice location near the Hamble river

My wife & I stayed 3 mid-week nights last week as we had traveled from Kent for our daughter’s university graduation and for the price can’t fault the place at all. The rooms are very well appointed, nice decor & clean & tidy. We ate at the Steakhouse each evening & for breakfast and really enjoyed the food & drink. All the staff are really friendly & helpful. A special shout out goes to our server at the restaurant, Driton who was brilliant. He was chatty, entertaining & just the right level of attentiveness so we felt valued without being fussed over, also remembering us from the previous evening & asking how the graduation went. This is the 2nd of the Upham Inns we’ve stayed in & will definitely book again!

Excellent food and service every time

My partner and I came to the restaurant on Friday where we were provided with excellent service by Nikki. She catered to all our needs and provided us with everything we wanted all night. The food was amazing and reasonably priced. We will definitely be coming to this restaurant in the future.

Great place for a party and for and drink

My husband and I recently stayed for one night at Harpers Steakhouse. We had a great experience and would definitely stay there again. Our room was very comfortable and clean. Great to have tea/coffee making facilities. We ate in the dining room several times. The food was delicious and all staff were super friendly and helpful. 10/10 .

Lovely meal. Lovely atmosphere. My meal came out wrong but very well delt with by Olli and the chefs. Meal was very yummy. Finding a table was a bit confusing we asked the server at the bar and she wasn't sure either, we were eventually seen to a table and then we didn't really understand how to order but as we were about to ask someone came over. Lovely atmosphere and reasonablely priced.

Both my wife and I had the duo Sunday roast ( she beef/ gammon,me beef/chicken) cannot praise it enough, portion sizes were huge, luckily didn't have a starter so was able to finish ( also had a side of pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese to share) staff were super helpful and helpful. will definitely be returning

This "steakhouse" had been on our must visit list for quite a while. We finally made it tonight and left extremely disappointed! Myself and my partner decided we would visit for an evening meal for my birthday. We booked online for the weekend indulgence menu and were sat down with a normal menu with no option for the 3 course set menu (Seems to have been a blessing in disguise as we were glad to be able to bail before dessert!) We ordered: calamari, sesame chicken, 2 x 8oz fillet steaks, and one of every steak sauce (red wine Bordelaise, Béarnaise, peppercorn, chimichurri or garlic & parsley butter) The starters were okay. However, I was very disappointed that the calamari tasted as though it was out of the freezer! There is an amazing fish market called Bradley's not 500m down the road, so I would have expected fresh fish. The fillet steaks were £36.95 per person, which is a price we would expect to see in a steak house, so we had no issues ordering that. The steaks came out about 5 minutes after the starters were finished, which felt very rushed. I like my steak blue, and my partner ordered medium rare. My blue steak was hardly even seared on the top/bottom, and the sides hadn't even seen the griddle. They were completely raw. My partner's was only just about rare. The steak had not been seasoned at all, clearly had not been rested, all of this, along with the cut I would say, is not worth £20 let alone almost £40. In addition to this, our chips came out wrong, although this was quickly rectified by the staff. Although the Parmesan truffle fries were disappointing, with parmesan just sprinkled to the top of the chips. The sauces were fresh out of a bookers pot, I've never tasted a chimichurri like this before. It was like minty water. The Béarnaise was almost desserty, and honestly quite grim. All of them were extremely disappointing. A man we assume is the manger did a meal check halfway through and offered to recook the steaks, but we declined as we just wanted to finish and leave. He was, however, receptive to our feedback and did say he would speak to the kitchen. We were offred a free dessert or a complementary drink by the server, and we asked that our current drinks were complementary as we didn't want to stay much longer. The bill, including a couple of drinks, each with the reduction, was £115.10 As we all know £100 on a meal out at the moment is a luxury and not something we can do often. We both left, wishing we stayed at home, saved an hour round trip to Harpers, and got a takeaway at 1/4 of the price. We both agree that Harpers is probably a nice place for a beer and a burger. However, it is definitely not a steakhouse.

My wife and I visited Harper's Steakhouse with our son-in-law's parents. We were disappointed that they had sold out of ribeye steak so early in the week. I found it hard to believe in a steakhouse. My rump steak, however, was delicious. The location was very good. The service was good. Quite good value for money.

I'm so glad I chose this place, after careful research. The staff are friendly,I was warmly greeted by Steve, who showed me to my room, which was very, clean and a comfy bed. It's ten mins from the train station, there were buses on an hourly basis. Nice walks too. I'll definitely book a return stay. Thoroughly recommended.

Fantastic room for the money. Everyone I dealt with were very polite and friendly. The food however was absolutely awful. I ordered a mega chille dog smoothers in gooey nacho cheese and crispy onions. Sounded delicious. I was horrible. Dry stale bread roll a teaspoon of nacho cheese and this is not me exaggerating. A about 2 tablespoons of chillie. I was unable to find a single crispy onion. Not one. I was revising for an exam in the morning and although I should have I didn’t have the energy to complain. Very poor food. Nice people.

I recently dined at navigator, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with tasteful décor that set the perfect backdrop for a delightful meal. pete was incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure our glasses were always full and that we had everything we needed. Now, let's talk about the food! I ordered the ribeye steak, medium-rare, and it was absolute perfection. The seasoning was spot-on, and the meat was tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. Every bite was a heavenly experience.

Always a great stay here. Fantastic rooms, good pub food. A little noisy if you're a light sleeper at times but definitely recommend.

I arrived with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised from the moment I arrived. Smooth check in, lovely room, nice amenities, great bar and venue. Best English brekkkie I’ve ever had! The manager was a really good host and very good at his job. I will be booking again if I return to Southampton.

My only and minor moan about this place is the rooms are like ovens but the fans are amazing so happy days, the service and food is brilliant pete and his staff are not in your face but there never to far away to assist you. I would 100% recommend this for a night away.

We attended a wedding meal here, and the food was excellent for the amount of people to serve in such short time everyone had something different and it was all cooked to each specification. Would definitely recommend here for food especially if that it’s the service and quality always produced, have visited other Harpers and they fall short of here !

We gathered for a family of 7 meal early evening. Service was friendly polite and efficient. Olly was on the ball ! Food for all was lovely, flavoured and hot. Plates were hot...a pleasure! Thank you Harpers. We will return.

Less than impressed. Food was cold when it came out. Hash browns still frozen. Service slow and poor. Very poor. Neither bar staff seemed to know what was going on. Let alone liased with the kitchen.

Stayed here on the 9th of July for business. Room was nice, however, felt uncomfortable that there was no means of locking it from the inside. Food very mediocre which is a shame as the menu looked amazing, I had the chicken tacos which came out within 30 seconds of ordering them and were basically an Iceland chicken strip and lettuce in a small wrap. Checkout was a nightmare, manager was getting agitated with guests asking for check out, printed bills etc. and people complaining breakfast was the worst breakfast they have ever had. Probably wouldn't stay again, however waitresses and bar staff in the evening were lovely.

Visited for Father’s Day brunch and can’t say a bad word about it. The booking was easy with a £10 deposit per head that was taken off the bill when will settled it. This was our first visit since it was The Navigator. The decor and vibe is lovely, very well done. The staff were family and attentive taking drinks and food orders. The food was lovely and out in good time. The vegetarian breakfast burrito and loaded tater tots were very nice, we would come back just for them!

We stayed in the hotel, had breakfast & some steak for dinner. The room was very well equipped with advanced tech. Immaculate in terms of cleanliness. The food was beautiful. A little pricey but it is a steak house so expected. You get what you pay for and meat was amazing. 2 for 12 on cocktails you can’t go wrong. The breakfast was irresistible smashed avocado & poached egg which was done to perfection. The walk to the harbour was 5 minutes. Amazing scenery when there is a full moon!

Despite the outside of the building being a little dilapidated, the inside of the premise was clean, tidy, and inviting. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Hollie our waitress, despite being young and us coming with an array of deathly serious allergies, did a fantastic job. The food was very good. In fact, it was one of the best burgers I've had. I don't say this lightly, I was pleasantly surprised with just how good. This will become a frequent haunt and was absolutely worth the slightly higher/premium price. I had the chicken roast. Gosh it was simply the best roast that I have ever eaten!

Food was very good, service let the evening down. Very slow, once Mains were cleared waited over 30 minutes until I flaged someone down for desert menus, after finished waited another 20+ minutes before going to the bar for the bill and pay.

Service was extremely slow. It was very busy so we did allow for that. The caesar salad wasn’t very fresh. The chicken was dried up and the avocado made everything mushy. The fish and chips was disappointing (changed chips for jacket), the jacket potato was done in a microwave very basket and the fish was small and tasteless. Decided against deserts due to the poor service and wait. Generally the food was disappointing and not warm, obviously cooked ahead of time and left on hot plates/under heaters
