Harpers Bistro in Hambleton

Nice couple running a good looking restaurant. Ordered food, one of the meals had a “cooked fly” on a chip. Meal was taken away and returned with new chips! No offer of a full replace, simply took off the chips and added new chips (probably fried in the same oil as the fly)!The fish was nice but a bit watery. It looks like it was not fully defrosted before drying. The price of a Diet Coke was removed from our bill, the fly meal was still charged.

Got 2 large fish and chips. Absolutely delicious, good portion. Also got the kids chicken bites meal, again delicious (had to try a chicken bite!). Friendly staff, quick service. Defiantly will be returning 😊

We dined here with our 3 children, the meals were delicious, reasonable price and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend.

Impulsado pasado un montón de veces, pero finalmente llamado. Pedimos el simple té de chips de eglefino. Pan con mantequilla. Delicioso, fresco, relleno. Basta de charla

We had a family meal at this restaurant and really enjoyed everything . The menu is varied with pizza, fish and chips, and lots more too. Three of us chose the pizzas which were huge and so tasty. The Adam's fish and chips went down very well too. Very reasonable prices and great portion sizes too. Will definitely go again

Visited early evening on Thursday plenty of room in the car park and restaurant. Greeted by a friendly and efficient young lady. Somewhat unusual food choice; fish and chips and pizza on the menu. My wife and daughter both had pizza which the really enjoyed My grandson had chicken nuggets and chips which he was happy with as they were home made My daughter’s partner and I had Adams Special Fish and chips. The fish (haddock) was very nice quality and tasty and cooked to perfection

I was taken here by my friend I was visiting, and what a great place it is. The staff were friendly and chatty, so helpful. The fish and chips were really lovely and plenty of it, which were served hot, fresh and tasty.

Hey what more do yyou want. A chippy who offers pizzas, fish ans chips and burgers of amright quality. Far better than a lot of places that I know in Liverpool

Travelling home we came across this restaurant as we went the wrong way at a junction and were looking for a u turn. Went in for lunch. Place was spotless and well decorated It was a Monday and the sign said fish and chips only on the door on that day. We ordered 2 senior specials for 10.99 each, although there are other offers on the board outside. This consisted of a small fish, (Good job it wasn't the jumbo alternative), beautifully fried,crispy and dry,an excellent generous portion of chips and a small side salad and their homemade tartare sauce. Also included was a pot of tea, with extra hot water,bread and proper butter and a choice of dessert, (which we were too full to eat!) It was the BEST we had eaten in years, including those from Whitby, and the batter stayed dry and crispy to the end. We will go back if we visit Yorkshire again. GREAT. There is also a takeaway shop if you don't want to eat in, with a large car park.

We called in here for lunch, the first thing that struck us was how cold the place was, granted they had only been open for an hour, after moving around tables we found the one that was the warmest. After perusing the menu the first thing that struck me was the prices, not cheap for a road side cafe. The worst was £3.50 for a cup of coffee which is just a rip off. The food I have got to say is good and freshly cooked, my wife had the fish which she said was very good, I had a burger which was average bit tasteless if anything. Service was very good and the staff friendly. Don't think we will be back, cant get over the price of the coffee !!!!!

We found the restaurant by driving past and returning in the evening. It was easy to park and get a table although there was a queue for takeaway which was a good sign. The menu was quite extensive but having read the reviews we went straight for cod and chips which came with a small salad garnish and tartare sauce. The menu told us it was cooked in beef dripping and it brought back some great memories. We could not fault it and ate every last bit. We will certainly be back if we come this way again.

Neighbours have started using this restaurant regularly so, after passing by the place regularly, we decided to give it a try. We were pleased to find some of our neighbours in there and they were all enjoying their meal. I opted to splash out on an “expensive” Seafood Platter but our cheerful, helpful waitress suggested this was more of a sharing platter, so we opted to go for this dish between the two of us. Even so, we still couldn’t cope with the size of it but the waitress was only too pleased to put the residue into a “doggy bag” box for us to take home. The Seafood Platter was a lovely mix of several types of fish, scampi, mussels and several other goodies. The batter on the fish was light and crisp and tasty and the fish itself tasted moist and fresh. It really was excellent. The premises were clean and tidy and tables were cleared and cleaned promptly and the toilets were clean and fresh. Parking was easy and close to the restaurant entrance and across the car park is an excellent fresh food shop. All in all it was a great experience. Highly recommended.

We saw this place on our way up the A19 to our hotel and decided it would be ideal for a lunch of fish and chips, there was an offer of 2 meals for £15 which was very reasonable. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the meal was perfect. We went at a quiet time so didn’t have to wait long to eat so all in all we would call in again whenever passing.

Been here several times, both to eat in and takeaway. Generous portions of tasty fish and chips, good battered sausages and mushy pea sides. Worth the drive down from Easingwold 👍 The pot of tea for one was huge and I got three/four cups out of it 😊 The place could be a little warmer, but that’s soon forgotten when tucking in to your food!

We called into Harpers Bistro on our recent visit to york and we're served the best Cod& Chips ever and a beautiful cherry trifle for dessert, the staff couldn't have been more friendly and so kind & helpful, would highly recommend , you won't be disappointed

Don't be put off by the word "small" when seen on the menu in respect of the cod. The portions are massive and well cooked. They are in the process of changing the name to "Adams".
