We booked a luxury afternoon tea at Harlestone Heath Dobbies. We walked in to find not many free table and no tables reserved. We asked a waitress who was cleaning a table where we go as we were booked in to which she replied they had no afternoon tea booked in as if they did they would have a table set out. I showed her my email confirmation and she went into the kitchen. She returned saying that yes we were on the list but they had forgotten. We were given a table but the experience didn't feel personal and very unpaired. We were told if we wanted more tea to go to the counter but each time we looked it was too busy. Food was very nice but as a whole not a great experience.

The cafe is hugely understaffed. The front of house staff are lovely, and work hard, just need more support. The sausages were cooked, but pale and cold, and the poached eggs tasted like vinegar. Fridges were bare, and tables uneared, so they definitely need more staff. Could potentially be half decent with more manpower

A terrible experience. We visited on a bank holiday at about 1:30pm. Our intention was for a cafe visit and shop. Unfortunately, we were really underwhelmed by the garden centre and what it had on offer. It certainly wasn't a welcoming experience. We made our way to the cafe only to find nearly everything was sold out. Not only that, but the staff were really rude about it. They snapped at us when we asked for food items which they didn't have left, somehow making it feel like it was our fault. And got even more obnoxious when we mentioned an allergy in the group. We eventually settled for a small selection of items they did have left. Only for the food to, be presented in a disgusting way. We paid for nearly £7 for a toastie, extremely high for the slice of toast and drizzle of cheese that my wife got. We paid above the odds for a sandwich for my daughter, again for it to turn out to be 'half a sandwhich' - I can't believe we paid that much for so little. To top it off, the cafe looked like it hadn't been cleaned all day, the tables were covered in half eaten oranges and so was the floor. All the time we were there, not a single table was cleaned nor any of the floor swept. There is a small soft play area for children, I didn't let my daughter enter it due to the filth of the place.

She received the sandwich but with a couscous salad and 7 small chips and what looked like the dregs of the chip bag on the side of her plate. £2.75 for 7 chips! Get real! Side orders should come in a separate container. Suggest whoever's in charge should try The Bell Plantation at Towcester to see how it should be done.

Cafe has a good range on the breakfast menu which is what we were having, long wait but understandable as they were short staffed. Staff friendly and helpful. Updated review, May 2024, short on small trolleys and the ones they did have were outside in the rain. Toilets 1 out of action, 1 had no lock and the other 2 no toilet paper and rubbish on floor. There's was only one trolley that attatches to the wheelchair, it was unavailable so I tried to push a normal trolley but it was impossible Sadly left with nothing, feeling upset & so frustrated as there was much we'd wanted to buy. Our complaint is in the cafe, yesterday, there was only one person working, behind the counter, so the queue was long, so it took ages to get our coffee’s, then we decided to have soup, again queue was long, then it took ages to arrive and when it did, it was Luke warm, so we had to return it, to be heated. My I make a suggestion you have a system like the one near the Queen Eleanor, they have a queue for just coffees and the other queue is for having something to eat and works very well. Just another thing, it’s far too cold in your premises and has been for quite a long time now, I feel sorry for your staff to work in these conditions, please get it fixed.

The Garden Centre was empty of stock and the fish section was empty and closed. My children loved seeing the fish and we got supplies for out own tank from here. Not sure how the store is surviving, it can't be making any money there is nothing to buy other than hyper inflated waitrose food and cotton traders clothes. Cafe was OK, scone was nice but asking for cream was poor, it should just be given. Also kitchen staff scratching their heads and arms whilst serving seems very unhygienic, not sure an inspector would approve.. lots of standing around talking too whilst there was a line of customers! Finally, in the cafe seating area a disciplinary/absence review was taking place for a member of staff, their manager and HR rep ( I assume) were very loud and you could hear the conversation and issues being discussed. Very unprofessional, should be in an office or via teams etc. This is a review for Dobbies Northampton (Harlestone)

IMPORTANT!! The branch of Maidenhead Aquatics in this store is closed as of 10th Feb 2024 - nearest is at Dobbies on the Newport Pagnell Road or better still at Two Seasons at Burton Latimer. A very quick visit to use the facilities. Google Maps says this is open until 5.00pm on a Sunday, but they close at 4.30pm. I suspect in an effort to cut their electric bill, the lighting in the store is abysmal.

It packs a lot in including fish, and wide range of products. Having a small Waitrose is very useful for a quick shop of essentials. It loses a star because the garden nursery aspect, range of garden products, plants etc is OK. I wouldn't put it as a destination place if you're looking to stock your garden. Having said that you can easily spend two hours or more shopping, eating, entertaining young ones and going home with something for tea. We continue to go back.

The gent who was part server and part order taker made sure we had the right food and drinks - he corrected the mistakes from the kitchen - total enjoyed his job . What a pleasant change/ Everything else as should have been. UPDATE - this experience is being spoilt by a web based booking and food ordering solution - here is a prime example of finance and marketing driving out cost and putting in a complex self service offering. This is a rural pub where it seems a key part of the audience would not rate as technology competent. And if you pick the phone up you have an offered booking system,....Plus you are now paying a deposit before you actually go. Complex menus and poor navigation is destroying customer value - wont be returning after 2024 SPOILING a great pub and great staff . Like many organisations treating us in a transaction avoiding speaking to people. Such an unnecessary shame.
