Middlemore Farm in Daventry

A promotion leaflet received by post offering 30% off mains at Middlemore Farm was too good an opportunity, particularly when Tom Shepherd’s ‘best ever pub pie’ was the marketing headline. Whilst knowing Daventry town we had not heard of this pub, an attractively converted farmhouse set in a relatively new-build area north of the town. Our evening begins - despite promoting the bar as ‘the heart of the pub’ under the heading ‘whatever your tipple, we’ve got a drink waiting for you’ I was surprised when asking what draught ales were available to be told that there was a choice of one, namely, Pedigree, as all the other beers were bottled; a glass of chardonnay was also not available, only by the bottle – so a poor start to our evening. My wife ordered the pan-fried sea bass and prawns, but was told there were no prawns available, being substituted with fried scampi in a small separate bowl. The two pieces of sea bass were delicious but the accompaniment of a large quality of fried potatoes and the unwelcome scampi substitute just didn’t go well with the sea bass, so were left. My ‘best’ pie was very tasty with the delicious red wine sauce and the excellent accompaniments of soft mashed potato, green beans, carrots and peas, however, the pie was spoilt by the tough pastry, a softer pastry would have made the ‘best’ title, allowing the pie to fall apart without effort for the excellent ingredients to spill out. I am sure Tom Shepherd’s expert creation wasn’t made with too much flour making the pastry hard so the fault must lie with the preparation/cooking, being left just too long in the oven to over-harden the pastry. An excellent pie unfortunately spoiled by the cooking – Tom Shepherd take note, created right by you, cooked wrong by others. A visit to their kitchen by Tom Shepherd would be useful, but a return visit to Middlemore Farm will not be in our diary.

I came with my family for easter lunch. It was amazing. We were made welcome a valued customer. The food was delicious and plentiful. Well presented with JESSICA AND PAUL very attentive to our needs I had lamb shank which was superb and zesty lemon cheesecake and deserved 20/10 . The whole experience was first class and I will be definitely coming again. WELL DONE TO YOU

We had a brilliant experience at Middlemore Farm. I'd booked a table in the bar but Paul happily moved us into the dining room. We had great table service. The food was lovely. Staff were very friendly and helpful, especially when I couldn't get my discount code to work. The space is tastefully decorated and the building itself comes with an interesting history. We'll definitely return.

A pleasant surprise. Nicely appointed inside, a friendly waiter who knew his stuff on the wine list and good food. We had a variety of mains including the lamb rump and mini pie, which was really very good.

A promotion that should come with a warning label… Used to love Middlemore Farm — it was the go-to spot for a Friday wind-down: good food, cold drinks, no nonsense. So when I saw a 30% off promotion in the post, I was genuinely pleased. Thought it might be nice to revisit the old haunt. Big mistake. Arrived at 18:15. Sat for 35 minutes before anyone even took our order. Starters finally landed at 19:30 — over an hour after we got there. Asked about mains, only to be told (with zero apology or empathy) by the manager that they were “busy” and it would be another 20–25 minutes. At that point, we left. No food is worth that kind of wait, and the attitude made it worse. Here is the thing: do not run a promotion if you are not capable of handling the demand. It is basic hospitality. Middlemore Farm clearly cannot cope — and instead of managing expectations or offering any kind of decent service, they are just shrugging and blaming the clock. If you like eating at 10pm and being treated like a nuisance, maybe give it a go. Otherwise? Save yourself the trip and eat literally anywhere else, we did! Want me to help tweak

Fabulous Sunday Lunch well cooked very well presented and all five of us were more than happy good size portions satisfied everyone Yorkshire pudding were outstanding also great children's menu whole menu excellent value for money will definitely be back soon can highly recommend - Gemma was great

Food was ok Nothing to write about Roast potatoes and stuffing weren't homemade Paid for extras which came after the main was started. Wouldn't rush to go back

We had a fantastic experience here. The food was great, service was great, good selection of hot and cold drinks and the price wasn't bad either. Luckily it wasn't too busy either as it's normally packed whenever we've been before. There is a good amount of outside seating and plenty of parking too. I would recommend it to anybody and we'll definitely be going back.

The gent who was part server and part order taker made sure we had the right food and drinks - he corrected the mistakes from the kitchen - total enjoyed his job . What a pleasant change/ Everything else as should have been. UPDATE - this experience is being spoilt by a web based booking and food ordering solution - here is a prime example of finance and marketing driving out cost and putting in a complex self service offering. This is a rural pub where it seems a key part of the audience would not rate as technology competent. And if you pick the phone up you have an offered booking system,....Plus you are now paying a deposit before you actually go. Complex menus and poor navigation is destroying customer value - wont be returning after 2024 SPOILING a great pub and great staff . Like many organisations treating us in a transaction avoiding speaking to people. Such an unnecessary shame.

Thanks for the food, work on you staff's patience!! Taking my parents out for a nice dinner! Sadly, there is always something. The meal was nice, a lovely venue, however. Why do they feel the need to rush you out of the door. It was obviouse we were getting ready to leave. So why did the waiter feel the need to tell us "I don't like to rush you but we have another party for this table." Well, clearly he does like to rush as my booking was from 1215-1415. So, why hurry us out when it had only just gone 1400.

Nice surroundings and pleasant atmosphere. Ideal for a family meal. Staff are friendly and attentive. Service is excellent. Sunday lunch was good and there are a good selection of beers.

Easy booking on the website with the ability to ask for special requests as we needed a table for 5 with room for a child's highchair. When we arrived our table was ready and highchair in place. Very attentive staff, good menu with plenty of choice at a reasonable price.

Excellent service & delicious food

We were regular customers for this place until today! First, they have changed the entire menu and have replaced the nice big patty burgers with McDonald’s quality thin burgers… so more expensive and 100% lower quality food!!! The manager on duty was extremely apathetic. I ordered steak and wine pie that was supposed to come with kale, peas, mange-tout. The kale and the peas were missing and I raised it with the manager who said I am sure the meal only comes with seasonal veg, however it was explicitly stated on the menu everything that should be on the plate. He said I will doublecheck and he never came back to us. We will need to find a new go to place, because the food and the service are rubbish now.

Great place to meet friends and family especially as it's dog friendly friendly staff, I would like to mention Devon,as she always makes us feel welcome, also to Paul and Jen,they all go the extra mile . X

The lady (sorry didn't get her name, but she had purple/pink hair) had noticed my birthday badge when I popped in to book a table. When we arrived at the table that evening there was a birthday card there for me and when my desert came out she had placed a candle in it and sang happy birthday to me. This really did make my day, she was very attentive to our group aspecially as we had 3 coeliacs in the family and she had made a point to leave the gluten free menues on the table along with the normal menues for us, which meant immediately that the coeliac members of my family felt included and not a nusince at all. Highly recommend

We visited here for the first time as it is an ideal midway meeting point for us and other family members it was our first visit and probably last. It’s a beautiful building and very nicely decorated, the staff were few but friendly. We waited 30 minutes for our drinks order and then another 40 minutes for our food, when it arrived it was burnt, cold and very dry nothing like the pictures on their website! No one checked in with us if our food was ok so we reluctantly ate it, paid and left feeling disappointed. For the price and the wait we expected better. Sadly we won’t be returning as it is a really lovely building and with more staff this place could be great.

We were greeted and seated within a few minutes of our arrival. The member of staff placed us next to the burner which was a cosy warm spot. He also asked if he could pet our dog and said he was very cute. Service was good and the food was very tasty. My wife and I both ordered steak. However, there was only one left. I changed my order to the steak and wine pie but was told that also was unavailable. My wife then ordered fish and chips instead.

The place is a great setting, the conversion from a farm barn to an Inn is very well done and impressive as a Marstons pub. The Servers /waiting staff are very friendly and fantastic to interact with. We have eaten there before and the food at that point was good, well presented and considered to be good value for money. However last night we were disappointed, although 'Gem'? was attentive and understanding to my request to no cucumber on my Prawn and Salmon cocktail we felt let down by the dish, both of them were presented ok, but I found it lacking any real punch as there was very little paprika, Marie Rose sauce and I had to hunt the seafood in a stack of lettuce leaves ( mostly lettuce heart), my girlfriend felt the same. Next the main course, my Salmon En Croute was ok, I like lots of sauce, so all good for me. I also acquired some gravy to enhance my mash potato. Unfortunately my girlfriends chicken was very dry, something I noticed and was of the opinion that even I would struggle with it, even with the gravy, my girlfriends bottom lip quivered a bit. By this time 'Gem' had finished her shift and Paul took over, so we pointed the food out to him, to be told 'yes' it's dry as we only reheat it. He was very honest and did try to offer other sauces, from mostly steak dishes, nothing appealed to her. Now, I'll admit she can be slightly fussy, she's a chef herself, and not a big sauce lover, but nothing was suitable to accompany the dry chicken. I could see her actually push the plate away before having an attempt at it again, but the conversion started to dry, like the chicken, she was clearly not enjoying herself any more, slightly difficult for Valentines night. Paul came to take the desert order, I let my girlfriend go first to get what she really wanted, and to attempt to finish on a higher note than at this moment, she asked for vanilla ice cream on her triple chocolate brownie. Well, when it came the ice cream looked dark, tbh, was chocolate 😯, so Paul was called over again, and to be fair he apologised for the error and got a ball of Vanilla ice cream. Overall, not the best night considering the occasion. Scores- For the service 9/10, a definite effort made For the food 3/10 For the singer 8/10, he was good I know its essentially a Martons pub, but it could be done better, I didn't expect Cordon Bleu, but not good value for money.

Delicious food and a lovely place.

Good local pub. Good selection of drinks including alcohol free. Food menu isn't bad either and not terribly expensive. Staff are always friendly, attentive and helpful.

We went 4th February They didn't have what we wanted No lasagne No mix grill No steak and ale pie Ended up having ceaser salad if you can call it that Side of chips which was only anothe chips to cover the bottom of the boat plate Fish and chip minus the fish as it was mostly batter There signature burger which was black So all in all for 5 people we payed over £100 for a completely crap meal Would not recommend 😕

We had a great evening at Middlemore for my husbands retirement. There were 19 of us. We did preempt that they may be busy, being a Saturday evening, so we pre-ordered our food. The service was great and the food too. The staff were attentive and polite. Everything was just as we wished for. I truthfully couldn't fault it. Everyone enjoyed the evening. I personally felt that nothing was too much trouble and I would highly recommend it! Special thanks to Paul and all the staff.

Been here a few times as it’s our local and it’s usually lovely but visited recently, waited around for a while to be seated and when we went to get a table were greeted very rudely by a lady and told there were none available. The restaurant was almost empty and it allowed me to book instantly online so don’t appreciate being spoken to do so rudely and lied to.

A renovated old barn with additional areas, a brewery and comfy booths. We had a great meal here with the family. Sausages and mash was superb. The sea bass was a real hit. Cooked to perfection.

Avoid during the festive period. The staff clearly cannot manage the demand. Over an hour wait between starter and main course. From the reviews below this is not a one off. We did get a partial refund but the situation shouldn't have arisen in the first place .

We visited with parents a couple of days before Christmas. We arrived ten minutes before our booked time to be told they would have preferred us to be 10 minutes late than early. Not really sure why it mattered as we were taken straight to our table. Food was good, although service was a little slow, everyone enjoyed their meals. They serve a pretty decent pint of Guinness too.

We came along for the children's party. We thought it was a great idea for in-between christmas and new year. Our youngest really enjoyed it! Staff were lovely, friendly and helpful as they always are when we visit. Thank you!

Just returned from another fab meal at Middlemore. It was booked last minute & luckily myself & hubby could be accommodated at such short notice. We loved the warm welcome as we arrived. The staff are very personable (especially Gemma) Our meals were sooo good & such a good price! We got back to the car & said that was a perfect end to our weekend. Great food would eat definitely eat there again

From when we arrived we were shown strait to our table which was all set up in the Christmas theme. There was 13 off us three children under 3 and not one person had a complaint. We all enjoyed the starters, mains and puddings. the food arrived hot and looked really well presented. The service was really good, thank you to the gentleman that was looking after our table, nothing was too much bother and very attentive. Would 100% recommend, thank you for making the start of our Christmas special. :-)

unfortunately despite pre-ordering our food, we waited over an hour and a half for it to even come out, no pre warning or updates from staff regarding this so we had to keep asking. A side dish of cauliflower cheese was forgotten about, again pre ordered, and when it eventually came out 15 minutes later it was full of water. The festive turkey dinner itself is nice at least. We also had someone who was gluten free due to allergies, her pudding was originally not brought out, again they had forgotten it! They were advised on pre order of the allergies and twice on the night she had told the same waitress was she sure what she was being given was the correct one, she asked her again for the pudding, was told yes then when she had a puzzled look on her face she then went "actually i don't know let me check" she then asked another girl who again didn't look convinced then said yes reluctantly? i suggest you don't book out so many tables when you are all rushing and running about, allergies are very important and none of your staff seemed to take this into consideration, they need to feel reassured and as you can imagine she wasn't! there was a lovely singer on too, but it was so loud none of us could hear each other, bit difficult when you are at the bar! i normally like this place but was terrible last night, it was a works meal too so very disappointing.

My food was good along with rest of the party apart from one who had the fish which was not as hot as it should be, waited a long time for the order to come also. Didn't seem that busy.

We picked Middlemore Farm for a family get together (it's the mid-way point between our homes which are 175 miles apart) and because it was dog friendly. The menu and reviews looked very reasonable so we booked a table. We were very, very pleasantly surprised: The dining area was great with plenty of space, even the dog friendly section. The food was excellent and great value for money (and free treats for our four legged member). The staff were great and prompt with the hot food. An all-around great experience, we can thoroughly recommend it. We all agreed that we would book again!

My brother and sister in law brought my mum out for lunch as a surprise and Jennifer who looked after them throughout and the feedback from them all was excellent on all areas. They aren't online so couldn't give a review themselves so asked me instead to post the review instead.

Lovely food and excellent service, Gemma was great!

We had to wait an hour and a half to be served our dinner. My husband ordered a 10oz steak and it had more fat than meat on it which he sent back. We were not charged for the steak. They had a party of 30 people to cater for, but they had turned up late and this was the excuse that the staff gave us. If we had been told that there was a long wait we would have gone somewhere else for our joint birthday celebration, but as we had ordered our dinner by then, we had to wait it out. Is was a big disappointment to us. Thank anyway.

Couldn't recommend this place enough. Felt at ease and looked after from the moment we stepped in to the moment we left. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming and the food excellent. Great range of alcohol and alcohol free options, something for everyone here. Will be coming back again and again.

We booked a very large table for birthday celebrations and had a wonderful time. From start to finish the staff could not have been more accommodating in particular Gemma who was our waitress she went above and beyond. We were all very pleased with the food, service and atmosphere and will definitely be coming back again.

We popped in for a coffee whilst out for a walk. It was ok, service was slow and seemed very unorganised. I don’t think I would rush back. They may just of been having a bad day.

Had a family Christmas meal here on Sunday. 20 people 3 courses. Everyone happy with the food, service, table setting and prices. Everything great thank you very much.

We had a lovely family meal for 10 on my birthday. Staff very friendly and helpful. All enjoyed our food apart from 1 fish that was overcooked.. the big chips were delicious. Children's mac and cheese was very popular. Long wait for food but it was a busy Saturday evening.

Visited the Middlemore Farm today for the first time and it was incredible. 10/10 service from our waitress, couldn’t do enough for us. Not just us, but all the tables round us. She was a lovely lady. The food was incredible. We had a roast and was all super pleased, probably one of the best I’ve ever had. Very filling as well and very tasty. Would definitely recommend and will be back.

Staff are always friendly and they definitely know their way around a cocktail. Unfortunately, the mains let the place down on this occasion, but I haven't been too harsh as they recognised this without us having to point it out and they adjusted the bill accordingly. The deserts also pulled the overall score up to 4 stars. It was also apparent they had a large group who seemed to be a bit difficult from what we saw, so for staff yo continue, we'll adjusted and still smiling shows character and dedication. Will definitely be back and would recommend, particularly foe deserts!

Great food with excellent service!

We discovered Middle more farm by accident looking for a Sunday roast last minute. Luckily they had a table for us and the roast didn't disappoint. Lots of places the vegetables are a bit of a afterthought but these were delicious. Wonderful service and lovely ambience.

Brilliant food & brilliant staff! My partner works in daventry so me & our 3 children travel 2.5 hours down to visit him and we always come here! Tried a few places and this is absolutely our favourite

First time trying the middlemore as not from round area and looking for somewhere nice to eat and drink. Very impressed with the quality of food, service and all round atmosphere. Would definitely come again and highly recommend.

From the greeting as we entered to the moment we left the staff could not have been better. The food was excellent, the pub was spotlessly clean and all of the staff were very helpful and friendly. This place has in my opinion one of the most rude, unaware and incompetent managers whoever let this guy run the place should surely reconsider. On all your responses to other peoples 1 and 2 star reviews hes seems unable to see why people were unhappy. I have honestly never met someone so incapable of been polite and it's the worst experience in a restaurant iv ever had and have been to over 50 in my lifetime. I'm normally slow to criticize but your attitude was appalling and that fact that u are blind to that is even worse.

Was a bit worried after seeing a few bad food reviews however the food at this place is absolutely delicious! Every dish we tried was full of flavor and beautifully presented. The staff was friendly and attentive, making our dining experience even better. Highly recommend!

Having read some of the other reviews this will come as no suprise. The manager I think his name is Paul?, was extremely unpolite on numerous occasions and conducted was honestly one of the worst we have come across. It came across he didn't care. The food was average, the roast potatoes were over done and carrots not fresh. The only redeeming factor was the lovely assistant manager who was very apologetic and said sorry..

I had the opportunity to eat Sunday lunch in this pub. I was very pleasantly surprised because at the entrance you could pour water for dogs and take treats. It was the first time I saw a menu for dogs - it's very nice! Lots of space which is important when children are walking. The lunch was delicious - roast turkey. Everything was very well seasoned. I was very impressed with the non-alcoholic Mohito drink. The service was very nice, I will definitely go back there.

Very good, the staff was friendly and helpful. The food was good and reasonably priced (especially with the discount). The restaurant was clean, comfortable and nicely decorated Not so good was the car park, the bays seemed very small even for an average sized car. The service could have been quicker, but this could be forgiven as the restaurant was busy at the time.

Fantastic evening with friends, the staff really went out of their way to see our evening went smoothly. We had the steak and sea bass, both absolutely delicious and drink refills given promptly without being intrusive. And the desserts were so lovely and a very good selection, the rich caramel tart was to die for! Thank you for a lovely evening and we will be seeing you very soon!
