What is normally a perfectly good chippy, managed somehow to forget to put the burger… in a burger! Funny as it sounds it ruined dinner as we had to get a replacement and eat separately rather than having a nice Chippy Dinner together! Otherwise I haven’t had an issue - just check your order before you leave!! Scores above reflect usual service but the low score has to reflect a failure to do the basics on this occasion.

Had fish & chips sausage in batter & chips the batter on the fish and sausage was lovely and crisp and the chips taste great not greasy . Staff was friendly having a laugh :)

Asked the lady do you cook in palm oil said I don't know after working there over a year. Then said cook in sunflower oil. The whole family was ill all night .

Take your business elsewhere! Our order was incomplete again and I am really disappointed. This is the second order in a row that has been wrong/incomplete - I wouldn’t normally post reviews but with portion sizes gradually decreasing and prices increasing, it really annoys me that orders are missing items and I have to chase to get a refund. We have been loyal customers of Harlees for years but in the past 12 months, we have seen a serious deterioration in both quality and standards from the Amesbury branch. I would have rung them immediately to try and correct this but Harlees have no means to contact them other than email. Go somewhere else!

Food is getting worse every time. Greasy thick batter on the overpriced fish. Chips cooked yesterday. It's definitely the last time we buy there!

To be honest I've only eaten here once and had food poisoning for around 2 weeks ,I informed EHO wiltshire and they said it was in hand . Years they've been there and never again 😕

5.30pm on a Tuesday. Just had a cheese burger and a chicken burger with portion of chips. Very disappointing. Burgers were just about luke warm, not freshly cooked, probably just heated up and chips again just warm and certainly not freshly fried to order. Not a pleasant meal at all. Such a shame as have used Harlees Amesbury in the past and it has been very good. What has gone wrong??

Dry like a rock, 75% inedible. Used to serve lovely fish and chips but lately they have been like this. The past 4 times we have ordered them as a treat and have been unable to eat most of them.

I've entered and and it looked empty. Didn't feel welcome going in. Ordered the food got home with it (as it was sealed I did not open it there) to find out that they have given me a quarter of a portion and raw chips. It's not the first time when I do get very disappointed with them. It seems like noone wants to work there! Such a shame...

Yesterday we went to Harlees, Amesbury because we visit Harlees in Bradford on Avon regularly and it's always a perfect delicious meal. We ordered battered sausages, which was ok, the pineapple fritter was lovely (even though they overcharged us by 20p which was returned by the way of extra chips)...BUT the two bags of chips were cold and inedible and went straight in the bin opposite. Awful experience and waste of money. Very disappointed

Harlees is a chip shop perfect for its community! The staff provide an excellent service and are always polite and friendly. Considering all meals are cooked to order, even on their busiest nights, I've only ever recieved the best quality fish and chips! Menu items range from classic battered cod, haddock or plaice to chilli beef loaded chips and pineapple fritters! There are a few options for vegetarians as well! Some items are a little pricier than other chip shops but once you sink your teeth into the grub you'll know why! My go-to order: Garden Burger with Cheese Battered Sausage Regular Chips Curry Sauce Keep up the quality service and quality food guys!

We have ordered from Harlees many times and the food is honestly amazing! We ordered this evening, and after the delivery driver had left and we opened the bag we realised that one of the meals was missing; we tried to find a contact number online but there isn’t one listed for the Amesbury branch on the website, or anywhere else it seems. I tried a number I found on another website, but that one didn’t seem to work. That meant my partner had to drive to the restaurant and query it himself. The issue was resolved and I have no problem ordering with them again; however, it would make life much easier for situations like these if there was a contact number listed online or on the receipt, or somewhere!

What an absolutely meh meal, had a cod and chips, very bland, zero taste. Asked for Salt and Vinegar, didn’t get. Shame as I had heard good things.

Since the lockdown Harlees has really stepped up theirs game. For us easily the best fish and chips in Amesbury and probably for miles around. Orders are in general cooked to order, their chips are not just the thin end of the spud and we have found them to be well cooked and hot. Fish batter is crispy golden and the fish portions are generous. Their are menu choices for kids and seasonal specials such as pigs in blankets. Not the cheapest price around but worth the price and delivery is available for three squid, excuse the pun! Additional;- Harlees have won national awards for their products!! Easily the best fish and chip shop certainly in my area of Wiltshire.

Awful chip shop, insanely over priced for the portion sizes they offer and the food arrived cold, never had a good meal from them so never again

Best chippy I've had in a while - lovely service and very quick! Slightly on the expensive side (£10ish for regular cod & chips) but more than happy to pay that price considering the quality. Will be back soon!

Not really the same as a traditional chippy, chips soggy, fish is tiny for the price and they don't even do saveloys....

Been a few times, sometimes excellent but last Thursday the mushy peas were inedible, really not fit for sale, chips were good but the fish a bit disappointing

First time we have ordered from here. Part of the order was for 2 x Large Cod, the fish we received were 2 x Plaice (Not Cod). Clearly, this is the cheaper option, and not what we had paid for. Additionally, the batter was soggy and wet on the fish; also the chips were similarly soggy. The mushy peas were dry, and you could turn the curry pot upside down without it falling out. Overall, the food was absolutely awful.....£52 spent on inedible food. Bitterly disappointed, I certainly wouldn't recommend a home delivery from here to anyone.

Worst chips ever. Twice now we have ordered from harlees and twice the chips have been inedible. First time order for four people we threw away 50% of the chips as were dry, cold and old. Second time 75% of chips thrown away. Dry, cold and looked as though they had cooked about an hour previous. Never again

Great golden chips, perfectly cooked: crispy, moist, not greasy. Service nice, polite, efficient. However the floor greasy and slippy at 4.30pm. Likely it’s not washed with good detergent daily!!!

Harlees Amesbury the food is fantastic always lovely and good size portions, shame the staff are so miserable. Try service with a smile and I would give 5 stars it’s so miserable in there

Went in for some chips. The result was abysmal! After being asked whether I wanted salt and vinegar on my chips, upon tasting there was NONE. As well as this disappointment the chips after being fried were put in the microwave for the cheese to melt. As you can imagine, the chips were pretty much inedible and it wasn’t long until they ended up in the bin. Would not recommend. Waste of £10.

Love Harlees always get our fish and chips from here, wether that be click and collect or just turn up great service and the app is brilliant.

Got the food on time but not all of the order. The fish is now cold with no chips and no telephone number to ask aboutthe order or complain. Absolutely shambolic. Dinner was ruined.

Stood in the shop for over 20 minutes on a Friday evening along with several other people. Counter full of cooked food whilst staff packed orders from the Internet. I personally feel walk in customers should be served especially when there is food already cooked. Won't be going again.

Typical Southern chip shop! Th's nowt moist! No gravy? No balms? No pies? Not because they'd ran out but because they don't do them... Had to ask if they did chips.

In my opinion best fish and chips in the area. Freshly cooked. Not greasy.. Prices could be a little cheaper but that just the way it is nowadays.. Good size portions. So money we'll spent.

I don't get why the rating isn't higher for this place... the plaice we ordered was huge, enough to share, and the batter was crispy and the fish was soft and creamy. The onion rings were crispy too 👌 They finished prepping our meal quick and warned that might be a few minutes later than predicted - it wasn't. Super friendly server too

Staff are slow, rather do online orders then walk ins. Was the only person in the shop at time of order. No wonder people avoid it. Useless no people skill, waiting 15 mins for some chips and battered sausage. Don’t waste your time going, go down the trawlerman in Amesbury town centre. Joke of a place

Have ordered from here a few times and is often very nice, but portion sizes are minimal, our last order of a large chips would barely feed 1 person let alone the 2 of us especially for what we were charged. We’ve seen a few complaints on the portion sizes also.

Portions of chips seem to be whatever they throw in the box. A medium portion one day, may look like a small portion another day - so it can be disappointing! Nice fish and chips but portions appear to be based on how generous the staff member is feeling in that moment!

The portions are so small. I ordered a large to share with my wife and it was basically a handful. Not happy at all. Best to go to the chippy in Amesbury town centre. I bet I get the same reply they send everyone.

1 large 1 med. Portion of chips two weeks ago just enough to feed my family. This evening 2 large portions. Not enough to feed half of us also the fish cakes were stone cold. Shocking, there is never any consistency with the 2nd rate fish and chip shop. No doubt I'll get their standard response, don't waste your money. If you can't get a job in BNM this is where people go to work. Coop.is next door by some oven chips. You won't be disappointed

Not the best in Amesbury but was the only one open tonight and really fancied fish & chips. Very poor portion of chips when had ordered the regular and the batter looked and tasted undercooked. Wont be trying again

We have used the shop a number of times over the last couple of years, and although the fish is tasty, it's not the best in the area. But today was the last straw, as I ordered our meals at 18:30, and they weren't ready until 19:15! That's three quarters of an hour I simply won't get back. There were 4 staff preparing food, so our meals should have been ready in less than 20 minutes. We also found the chips rather woody. We won't be returning, as there are more efficient chip shops in the area.

Tried a lot of fish & chips over the years I didn't even know this place was up there. Very strict on covid19 restrictions which was very good. The fish was like being at the seaside tasted very fresh and the chips didn't taste like they had been sat up for hours. Very clean and tidy and staff were very polite considering the world we live in currently

My father was a trawler skipper from Lowestoft and my husband comes from three generations of fish and chips shop owners also in Lowestoft. We moved here on Monday after living many years on Crete so we were reallyb looking forward to some proper fish and chips. We were not disappointed....the Haddock was well cooked and delicious. Many congratulations from a couple who really know their fish.

Got a pamphlet saying home delivery available, rang and answer phone stated only click and collect.....what a waste of time sending us discount pamphlet when the service advertised isn't even available.....disappointing...

There large cod is really nice, the size of their large chips is disappointing, their curry sauce wasn’t to pleasant either

Placed online order and when I got home my fiancé battered jumbo was not in there, and to make things worse my large cod was not a large cod. Will be making a formal complaint as i have not got what I payed for, not very happy

We bought fish and chips 13 June to collect at 5.30 at 5.00 so plenty of time. The fish was ok just a bit light on the batter but the chips were hard an crispy we left most of them. Disappointed.

Sexiest fish and chips I've ever had. Only problem was Karen arguing with the manager. Pretty sure she had covid.

Witnessed a Karen complaing about the waiting time despite us being on lockdown and having nothing to get back for, she didn't look like someone who's key working judging by her walk. 5 stars for the staff working through the pandemic, heat and dealing with Karen's.

Very often service is poor, twice I've been to this chip shop to find they have no chips.....

Awful, waiting 20 minutes in a queue to be told there is a 20 minute wait for food when I got to the counter. Multiple people coming back with wrong orders, missing items, missing food from online orders. Hope it was just a bad day.

Called in just as they had closed but they went out of their way to provide us with fish and chips to takeaway anyway. All 3 staff were welcoming and jolly. The fish and chips were lovely. Thank you.

I visited the Amesbury Harlees..very put off because food servers should have a hygiene standard....hair should be tied up to prevent falling into the food and hands should be clean including fingernails!!! The chips looked like they were days old and refried...the curry sauce was just luke warm....very disappointed.

So I ordered two regular cod and chips for the kids and a large cod and chips for myself, didn't have to wait to long so happy days. I get home sort the kids food out first, go to sort myself out I see my large cod but no chips, not only that the large cod is the same size as the two regular cods I got for the kids, so I have either been lucky and got three large cod or three regular cod, also the older women who took my order need to get a hearing aid or something, so if you do decide to order food from here I would advise that you get them to read back your order and check it yourself before you leave the shop. Other than that the food is average.

This was my wife's first visit to Harlees and almost certainly the last. A portion of chips for £2.20 and mushy peas for £1.05 was about as small as they could possibly be and certainly not on a par with any other chippy we have used this year. I suppose they could best be described as kiddies portions. My wife described the chips as 'Horrible, as if they had been cooked the night before and fried up again!'

Last couple of visits here have been disappointing. My fish hardly had any batter and wasn’t crispy. We ordered different fish and the bags weren’t marked. I used to love this chip shop but the customer service has gone down hill recently. I won’t be using again Thank you for replying to my review above. I was unable to reply to your comment so have added this as a response. The haddock that we bought had no skin on it. The cod had no skin. So that now suggests as you’ve implied there is a visual difference we were not given Haddock as requested. No visual differences between the two fish. We couldn’t tell the difference between the two fishes ordered. Common sense would tell you to mark the food appropriately. Your reply was poor and showed a complete lack of empathy or customer service. As I said above I won’t be using you again.

I’ve visited multiple times with no complaints. However my most recent visit on 31/08/19 was appalling. All three members staff at the front of house have zero customer service skills. Incredibly rude, the young girl and boy continually argued with each other. Not one thank you. I shall not be returning.

Food was good even though they got my order wrong. Recited my order 3 times to them and they still managed to get 2 things wrong wasn't happy I felt a bit mugged off tbh.

Excellent local fish and chips shop which I use regularly. Good menu and food always cooked fresh. The waiting time is reasonable and worthwhile. Portions are generous and sometimes too much so, I wish they did a smaller portion of chips. Good service from all the staff but the manager Ross provides exceptional service.

Large chips in this place is a joke!! You can get a bigger portion of fries from Mac Donald’s for more than half the price.

Always met with positive friendly customer service, especially by manager Ross, who is super helpful and always delivers great service and food. Will be revisiting.

Just thought after using this store 3 or 4 times a month for past 3 year I would comment on what an excellent service I have received and food quality, all freshly cooked so well worth the wait, Ross keep up the good work.
