Hare&Tortoise in Kensington and Chelsea

You can choose to dine in or take out at the Hare & Tortoise Kensington. We notice that there is a quite significant number of Uber orders, and choose to take out. The restaurant packs the food well, the curry is separated with the rice and tempura to keep the tempura crispy. The food is good.

First H+T visit, and must just say it was a lovely experience. Couldn’t have been a nicer team of folks at this restaurant. Our food was great and for the pricing vs quality put the other chains to shame (You know who I am talking about Yo! and Wagies! Also, their wine list is possibly best bang for bucks out here. As a frequent London visitor a gonna make this bunch a regular feature. Long may they continue. Enjoyed the really human and caring contact, so frequently missing from a chain experience.

Love the food and been to many other shops of this chain and all been as good as each other. Quick lunch, food was hot and well presented as always, my son's was too spicey and they recooked with less spice which was a great touch !

The food was good, served quickly and we ate it all. The restaurant had a rapid turnover, but if you wanted to take your time, there was no rush.

Had a spontaneous family Diner on a monday evening and got lucky to fetch a table. We had pad Thai, loads of starters and a Ramen. Everything Was freshly and handmade and absolutely delcious. Also very friendly and polite staff. Absolute recommendstion!

I have been few times and it is always really tasty and good, yesterday after a horrible lunch in Rosa's thai i still craving for thai food, therefore i paid a visit for dinner, i ordered curry laksa which was excellent and my bf duch, however he did not like it so the waitress offered him to change for another option, he choose chicken teriyaki which was very yummy. totally recommended, food excellent, good price and customer service excellent too. Special mention to Myrun (waiter) he was very kind and attentive with us. i cannot wait to come back!!

Piccolo ristorante giapponese a Kensington, presente anche in altri punti della città. Il salmon box era buono, tutto molto fresco. Ebi Tempura buoni ma non paragonabili alla tempura giapponese: qui è stata usata una pastella per fritti, morbida e spessa. Buona ma non croccante e leggera come dovrebbe essere. Tè al gelsomino servito al bicchiere (senza teiera). Comunque una buona opzione per un pranzo veloce

Very good food. Sushi, pan-Asian. Friendly people with good service. We had to wait a bit before we were seated but that's a good sign as there were many people eating there! Singapore noodles were good. As is their sushi and rolls. The cheesecake with sesame is fabulous!

we've been in this restaurant today and we were queuing outside for 45 min and the manager was let other people in behind of us throw in is very rude and disrespectful I wouldn't recommend this place very poor costumer service

I've been going to H&T restaurants for years and have been to Kensington location many times. Never again. Went for takeway last week, had malaysian fried noodles which is one of my favourites. It was awful, oily, ingredients sparse, full of fried egg and tasteless. My partner is Malay and he agreed. Also had three panko fried prawns as a starter for almost 6 pounds and they were just barely cooked and not good value. I don't know what has happened to this place but I'll never eat there again.

I am a regular at this little high street restaurant. It’s casual dining and good for a quick meal. My favourite and definitely would recommend is the eel sushi and soft shell crab roll. All the food on the menu is alright and at a decent price and good portions. Very friendly and quick service. Overall a pleasant place to eat pan asian dishes.

Me and my boyfriend went there at lunch time. Nice section of sushu, even for vegetarians. First I got wrong sushi though, but it was quickly fixed. Busy place, nice service and great sushi, even tho I think sushi appearance might be a little bit better. Four out of five!

Delicious food. There was an issue with seating so we were given complimentary drinks, which was very kind. The staff were incredibly lovely: kind, helpful, and the food was served promptly. Would definitely recommend.

We were roaming the streets looking for something tasty while on Olympia exhibition stand duty and spotted a diner with a big bowl of ramen... this is exactly what we were looking for so in we went. Both myself and colleague have visited japan on a few occasions and we found the food to be pretty spot on in terms of authentic flavours. Very glad we stopped by!

Strangely, lots of eyes were on us as soon as we entered the restaurant which made my whole family feel very uncomfortable. On top of this, a waiter nearly scalded my niece with boiling hot soup as he tried to pass me a bowl of ramen with one hand (maybe because he was nervous). In all honesty, I didn't find it a very nice atmosphere to be in.

It looked busy so we went in, were seated right away since it was about 5:30 pm. Nice menu of choices of noodle dishes, sushi, etc. Had a noodle bowl and sake. Service was good, not stellar but they were busy delivering food at the other tables. By the time we left there was a line of people waiting to be seated. Nice to have a nearby local Japanese restaurant that was not exhorbitantly priced.

Cute, clean little place. Staff wasn’t overly friendly but they were prompt and attentive. Decent sushi and nice atmosphere. Would definitely return again.

My neice had been here before and recommended it for lunch.Pretty unnasuming from the outside...inside, a warm welcome from the staff and we shown to one of the few remaining tables.A busy, bustling Tuesday lunchtime, 2mins stroll from Olympia where I was attending a trade show.We both chose chicken in a spicey sauce and rice...can't recall what it was called, but my, it was delicious. As was my green tea. A bargain at £10.45.Friendly, helpful staff and delicious wholesome food. Superb value. This will be my lunchtime destination when in the area next time.Level access.

It’s quite small Japanese restaurant in Kensington area. Service was really friendly and quick enough. They let me know that I overpaid a lot by mistake (totally my own fault) and gave me that extra money back.

I visited here and have to say service was excellent that so includes the speed of my order, the spring rolls were very hot temp wise and had to wait awhile to eat them, but my chicken fried rice was there, so got stuck into that whilst rolls cooled down, will definitely visit again next time i pass through London

This is where you should go eat out, good food, good service, good value for money. And the staff are always smiling, if you going to spend your money on food when eating out, spend it here. Oh, and its mostly clean, healthy food.

Service and the food was good. I was particularly impressed with the speed the food is being served. My only complaint is that it’s a bit too expensive. For the two of us, it costed us £45!

I had an early dinner here with a colleague on a recent business trip to London. We arrived a bit after 4:30, so we were able to get the "lunch special" which included a main and a drink. We both opted for the Singapore noodles, which included mushrooms, pork, chicken, and shrimp. The flavors were really good, and the portions were generous. We also each ordered a beer, and we were still out the door for less than 30 pounds.

A very small restaurant with a casual setting. Raw juices are brilliantly tasty with all dishes being presented nicely with a very good portion size. Will be returning!

Esperaba que los dueños vinieran y me pidieran perdón por el descuido de sus camareros, pero no tenían ninguna señal, ¡pero me ofrecieron hielo! ! El idiota camarero sostuvo un enorme tazón de sopa con una mano, con el líquido lamiendo la parte superior y se sorprendió cuando empapó a mi pequeño. ? ! ? Luego, cuando llegó la factura, incluía un cargo por servicio, ¡casi me ahogo con mi cerveza cuando la vi! ! El cargo por servicio que se incluye en la factura le dice qué tan seriamente se tomó el restaurante el hecho de que podrían haber marcado a mi nieta de por vida. No volveré.

We ate late afternoon and some of the dishes were a bit dry so can only assume some of the ingredients had been made up a while earlier and had been sitting waiting for an order. It was freshish but not as fresh as if the restaurant was really busy when ingredients have a quicker turn over. Service was quick (only a few people in) and friendly. All in all good but not great.

Four of us were there for lunch just as it opened. So I cannot comment on how service might be in busier times (it was just started to heave as we were leaving). Service was fast and friendly when we were there.

But the food was very good. loved the salmon and the chicken chow mein. service was spotty, but this is a busy place.

Had a quick lunch there with the family (Jan 18), 3 noodles, it was £26.xx, but £7.xx service fees were added to the bill, so it's £33.xx totally. I don't mind to pay some service fees, but over 25% is too much.

After looking at the opening times we saw this restaurant opened until 11pm on a Sunday night. So after checking this out and visiting a trade show on a Sunday we decided to visit the restaurant at 10:15pm to get a takeaway to which we were told the kitchen had closed for a deep clean and we couldn’t now order food to takeaway or to stay in. This I think the should be stated on their website and their opening hours should be changed so that people don’t make a wasted journey or get their hopes up for food they can’t get!

I just love this place ! Thanks to the owners for making it so lovely and full of colour ! That chicken Terryaki it’s just amazing !

I can recommend this place. The food was good, the staff friendly and the place looked clean and healthy. The food was not too expensive, and It was a most popular place for both young and old.

We visited during a trip to London for the Hyper Japan expo. I was thrilled to find vegetarian ramen so close to the venue and it was absolutely delicious! I don’t know what they marinate their tofu in but it’s the best I’ve ever had. Gutted I don’t live closer so I could come back sooner.

I have been to this restaurant MANY times over the year and recently. I just want to say a big thank you to the staff and chefs for providing yummy food and good customer service. I do believe the cost of the food matches the food provided and happy to recommend to those visiting the area in the future. The only negative, is that they do not provide home deliveries.

Stopped for lunch here last week and the food was superb - heartily recommend the teriyaki salmon, it was amazing. Service was extremely good, very pleasant staff and a nice atmosphere.

There are many good Ramen Noodle outfits in London, started by the Wagamama / Itsu main stream.

Delicious food, fast efficient service. Met a friend after working at Olympia and was not dissapointed. Great fast food, well presented. Clean environment and friendly staff.

We ate here twice during our recent stay in Kensington, and both times it was beautiful. The food is delicious and a very good price. We will definitely be back again next time we are in the area.

Vorspeise Suppe mit Hühnerfleisch, Glasnudeln, Chili und Shrimps, gut wäre es noch, wenn zu Sojasoße und Wasabi auch noch Ingwer gereicht werden würde. Tiger-Bier. Preis/Leistung sehr gut.

Visited back in February. Lovely food and great service. The restaurant was very busy however our waiter was very attentive. The prices were very good too. Highly recommend to those who love Japanese food.

We had a succulent meal with my husband with wine and lots of platters at £46 including service. This is fast good food in a really nice setting.

The foods are tasty. We tried char kuey teow quite nice, better than China town those Asian restaurants. Laksa the vermicilin is smooth and soft. Soup based is creamy with coconut milk. Tasty. Small restaurant with limited of seats. Staff is friendly. Tea is refillable. A bit pricy compared to other Asian restaurants.

This is a chain restaurant. I've been to their Ealing branch a few times but this was my first time here. I was shocked to see how small their open kitchen was as you walk into the restaurant - it looked very crowdy. Their food is delicious - and if you're savvy enough you can work out a good deal from the menu. A nice place to come to when it's not too busy!

Ese fue un buen comienzo. No queríamos una gran comida y pedí lo que sabíamos serían sin gluten. Sirve rápidamente y disfrutamos de la gyoza y el sashimi. Si viaja desde la estación de Kensington High Street y sugerimos que tome un autobús. Está a un largo paseo. En el momento en que la izquierda estaba muy concurrido.

ok, we have arrived late (at approx. 10.45) to be welcomed in anyway and been told that the kitchen was about to close, so we had to order straight away. fair enough. I work in the food industry, I have a pretty clear idea of how these things go.but honestly, I had never, ever, felt so much pressure from the front of house before in my life, and I visit restaurants on a regular basis.chopsticks and towels were literally thrown on our table. the guy serving us decided to just stand there, next to me, the whole time. the fact we had to pay before finishing eating didn't bother us at all (we understand the place closes at 11.30, and so they need to close the till), what doesn't make sense at all is the fact we were rushed out so bad even after that, my friend and I being forced to gulp down our drinks and swallow whole nigiris. and surely we weren't taking our time!as we felt we were close to be physically kicked out of the place, we just thanked the staff for the patience and left, believing we might have pushed it a little too far. that until we checked the time: 11.34.wow.incoming bank holiday must have a nasty effect on workers, not really caring anymore about customers as their long-yearned-for weekend approaches.a nice place, shame for poor service management.I had plans to bring my girlfriend over for sushi. not gonna happen.2 out of 5, because the food was honestly good.

After eating here on Tuesday I had a mild stomach pain as I walked towards High Street Kensington. It progressively got worse and resulted in a very upset tummy. Will not be eating here again.I contacted the restaurant via their website but they did not respond or acknowledge my email.

I went there for a meal on my own. The food was super delicious and service really good too. I would recommend this for couples, small groups or small families. It is very small inside so would not recommend it to large groups or families.

Visited this restaurant which was right across the street from our hotel. The wait staff gave a good recommendation for dinner for my son who was hesitant about trying something new; he loved his food! My wife and I liked our food too.

To my shame this was my first visit despite living within ½ km for fourteen years!We popped in for a light lunch, what a lovely surprise!We started with a salad each; 'Green' and 'Gomadare', fresh and crisp served with a very pleasant dressing to drink one of us had green tea, the other 'green juice'; apple, kiwi & cucumber - delicious!We both followed with a mix of vegetables and prawns in tempura batter which was spot on!The service was courteous, friendly and prompt.The decor, as one would expect for a Japanese establishment, was clean and minimalist.Perhaps the prices are a little high (hence 4 not 5 stars), the juices around £3.50, salad £4.80 & £5.80, Tempura £6.80. Perhaps I'm being harsh.That having been said, The Hare is clearly popular and was quite full by 1pm.Recommended!

Went here two times while attending a nearby conference. Had several things on the menu including a variety of the sushi on offer and both specials, the yakitori chicken skewers and the spicy calamari. Everything I had was absolutely delicious and given the hordes of people attending the conference (and queueing outside), the service was amazingly fast. Can't comment on dinner service, but for lunch I had no complaints whatsoever. For people attending events at the Olympia Grand this is a great option.

menu is varied and has many options. for newbies like me maybe too confusing, help would be welcomed. food is freshly made, service is friendly. Very nice seating. Recommend the ramen (seafood) the maki tuna and the salty soybeans as starter. Ice-cream in rice dough also very delicious.Tried the jasmine tea that is a great drink to accompany your dish, gets regularly refilled.

Já fui diversas vezes a este simpático restaurante, e sempre saio de lá feliz. Tem boas opçoes de comida oriental variada, e tudo é gostoso. O atendimento é rápido e cordial e os preços são bem camaradas. Recomendo especialmente o pato com arroz, que é divino. Apenas as sobremesas, semiprontas, deixam um pouco a desejar.

We ordered a bunch of different dishes such as salmon sashimi, roasted duck with rice, pad thai, tempura. Sashimi looked dry as it was already sliced way before but tasted ok. Roasted duck was definitely dry and some end bits were actually burnt. Pad thai and tempura was average. Service was much better than the food.

Had Pad Thai it was ok, could have been improved by introducing some colour into it using red chillis green onions.What annoyed us most was that we thought we booked for lunch at 14:30 but when we arrived we were told we would have to wait 45mins.Food 3 stars, service 2stars

We went there to have meal with my family and the manager was the one who took our orders, one by one. After a few minutes, i wanted to add some sushi with the orders but the manager came to me and said they can't take more orders until the main orders are served. I explained to her that we wanted to eat the sushi first before our meal comes, she still insisted that she can not take more orders from us and can only take it after our food is served. I was surprised and just said okay to avoid arguments. Unfortunately, we've been waiting for our orders in a while and everyone has been served with their food but not me lol i asked for the waiter to please check if my order was ready and she couldn't find it and again, the manager forgot to place my main order as well and i had to wait for a while again while everyone was eating. They didn't apologise for that so one of us asked for the manager for a talk and she came. We talked about the disappointment with their service and she apologised briefly and responded saying that we're fine anyway and my food was served anyway so everything's fine and just walked out from us while we were still talking to her. She didn't even want to listen to what we were saying. Very rude. We're never coming back on this branch. The staff named jackie tried her best to make up though and she did well and was very professional. I wish she was the manager, maybe our experience were a lot better. It's just the way the manager named Sie dismissed us and didn't care about our food at all. I never encountered any restaurant refusing for adding orders at all except this one. Ealing branch is better. I went there last year and i liked their food and service thats why i recommended it to my parents and we were closer to kensington so we planned to try there instead but wow, big disappointment!

This place sounds like a pub but it is a fusion of japanese and thai food. It is always very busy and we had to queue but not for long. Extremely efficient staff and very quick service even with 10 of us. Lovely food and so reasonable for London, can't recommend enough, try it.

You can't beat this place, it's very good if you are looking for authentic Japanese food. Been a loyal customer for 10 years and have eaten there or ordered take out.Good value for money, consistent and speed very good. If you are looking for personalised service this is not the place, it's simply efficient. But who cares when the food is awesome!

We dined here recently after the suggestion of a local friend and we really didn't regret it. Lovely fresh food in great prices. We had sushi for starters and personally I had the roast duck with the alternative of noodles. My fiance had salmon teriyaki. We left with the best of impressions and if ever back in the neighborhood we won't miss it for sure!

I was looking forward to some nice Japanese food. The venue is nicely decorated. The menu was covered with poor quality photos of the food. So I was dubious about how genuine it would be. I asked if one of the dishes could be made with chicken instead of prawns. I was told no, strange as they are supposed to be making everything fresh.My colleague and i ordered. The dishes were very poor and the quality of the chicken very cheap. it tasted like a poor Chinese takeaway. Abrupt service. I won't be back

Sekilas restoran ini terlihat seperti restoran khas Jepang karena dominasi menu Jepangnya. Akan tetapi dengan interior dan konsep layanan yang modern disertai dengan kehadiran beberapa menu Asia lainnya seperti Thailand dan Malaysia, restoran ini tampak modis dan modern. Harga yang ditawarkan tidak terlalu mahal dan makanan disajikan dengan porsi yang mengenyangkan dan rasa yang lezat.

お店の前を通りかかった時に日本食屋で且つお値段も手頃という事で後日来店。いつ見ても店内にお客さんは必ず何組かいるので、人気店のようです。スターターとして豆腐サラダ・テリヤキチキン・まぐろのたたきの3品、メインとしてサーモン&アボカド巻・玉子握り・担々麺の3品を2人でシェア。スターターの後に頃合いを見てメインを持ってくるからメインもすぐ頼めと言われるがままにオーダー。しかし、どんどんどんどん運ばれてきて、一気にテーブルの上が一杯になりました。〆で担々麺を食べたかったのに…味はそこそこです。不味くはないし、値段も手頃だし近所なのでまた行くとは思います。

I ordered Makis and Chicken teriyaki. The service is quick which is appreciable, but the teriyaki sauce was not really good and the rice not well cooked to my opinion. It's globally ok but a little tasteless. The room is small and very noisy when full.I'm used to Japanese food and I was quite disappointed at the end regarding the grade in TripAdvisor that are for me too high.

Good food for good prices. BUT. A huge but. Terrible service. My friend and I came in to have a dinner at Hare and Tortoise a while ago. The place looked nice and modern, and we were both up for trying new Asian food. It was such a disappointment to have an awfully rude waitress. First of all, they all make you feel like you've been sitting in the restaurant for too long and you have to leave as soon as you finish your meal. Sometimes you don't even have time to finish eating, they hurry to take all your plates away. The lady that served us behaved highly unprofessional. When I paid my half of the bill turned out that my friend's card wasn't working. I paid in cash, so she had no problem with me, however when the faulty card machine kept declining my partner's card she threw a fit. She started giving my friend advice on how to take care of situations like this. Literally what she said was " You should always have cash with you". "If you can't pay your friend must always cover you", "if you can't pay for your meal don't order it".After a while of arguing with my friend she called the police and kept taking the "broken" card in the kitchen with her. She was claiming we have no money to pay the check, without even trying a different card machine. The situation started to get really awkward and everyone was looking at us. We tried to convince her that the card is fine and we just used it a few hours ago and that she can take the long number if she wishes but she refused to cooperate with us in any way. She kept threatening us with police calls and I had to leave before it finally arrived. Such an embarrassment. Never returning back to this place.

Had a dinner with my family, great good, good portions, would return.The place is not massive though, but if you get a seat during peak hours you would definitely enjoy the stay

Hare and tortoise is a cosy neighbourhood restaurant on High Street Kensington. Good selection of sushi and soups at affordable prices. Headed there with my sister in October. Great experience!

I like this place a lot. I 've been more than 5 times during the last 10 months! I love tataki as well as the dishes with pure sashimi!! Also, the fried seaweed is good! The ramens are quite good as well. Normal prices for sushi - abt £30-35 per person without alcohol.

good atmosphere, nice service, but expensive sushi. For the price, not to much fish on the sushi. The rice was overcook and without any taste.
