We happened upon this place by chance and it looked beautiful from the outside… We popped in for a quick drink, were quickly told that we couldn’t stay in the bar as children aren’t permitted… immediately annoyed! So we were told abruptly to go into the “family room” Drinks we had were 2x half pints of orange juice and a pint of lager… £12.85! Fully unaware that I’d be requiring a mortgage for a drink! The interior itself is nice enough. The toilets, as is usually the case had been forgotten about and were very outdated. The staff could do with a shake up regarding their attitudes! Walking around as if they have a smell under their noses. We shall not be returning.

This does, of course, have a head start over anywhere else in the area as it has such a perfect location; very close to a main road, but set apart from it sufficiently to make you feel you're somewhere special. The first disappointment comes when you arrive, as there is often a really bad smell like sewage, and if it's a warm day this is particularly unpleasant. The pea fowl are an attractive novelty, although, as we approach bird flu season, I can imagine some people looking slightly askance. Internally, the pub is attractively decorated, some areas are rather gloomy, but the design was probably done for evening atmosphere rather than lunch in mind. Having said that, it's very nice in other parts at any time. The food is adequate for the price, and it's evident that whoever writes the menu tries to cater for different tastes. There are some days when the quality is better than others, but people must have time off sometimes. After visiting many times over the years, there's one aspect that can be very disappointing; the service. This is a shame. Strangely, I find it's not the younger staff who I find wanting. Every so often an older woman (manager/owner?) is there and she's just so rude. I've heard her talk about other customers, (a really bad lapse of etiquette) argue with people and be generally obnoxious. I will always hold back in order to deal with someone else. The place is very popular, so she evidently doesn't feel she needs to pretend she likes the paying public. She should, however, try to remember that for some people a meal here is a special occasion and, if ruined, can't be undone.

This review could of been so different. We visited this pub for the 1st time as a family.Had a lovely lunch which was quite pricey but nice.Stayed for a couple of drinks and was just heading across the car park with our dog when a lovely peacock jumped out in front of us which in turn frightened the dog so she tried to chase it but didn’t get far as was on a lead. The peacock took off abruptly and was fine.We then had a member of staff yelling abuse across the car park at us in a very aggressive tone in front of all customers outside saying put your bloody dog on a lead and some other abuse vile abuse!THE DOG WAS ON A LEAD!!!not much you can do when a peacock practically jumps on the dog!!!For this we will never return it has left a very sour taste unfortunately.

Superb food, great service and nice atmosphere BUT …… if you eat in the bar area and don’t want to pre-pay they insist on physically framing your debit/credit card and holding it behind the bar. I’m not sure this is legal with data protection, they have all m card details including security number on reverse etc. I don’t like this practice at all so 3 star review on what would have been a 5.

We were staying in the area on holiday and thought we'd try this place. Overall good experience, however the desserts were a disappointment even though they were supposed to be homemade. My husband had bread and butter pudding which he felt was factory made and looked odd in the dish. My cheesecake had no taste except the tropical sauce on top and was exactly the same as cheesecake we had the day before in Kings Lynn with a different sauce on. How can that be if it was 'homemade' The main course was ok.

The Hare Arms has been a favourite of ours for a couple of years now. We fell in love with it from our first visit. The food is lovely and staff very friendly. As replies to previous negative reviews show the owner/s of this pub/restaurantdo not like to receive visitor comments.Previously really enjoyed eating here, but post covid the standard of foodhas really taken a nose dive.Scotch egg served in a metal tin, not garnished, only if you like mustard, a littlesalad would have been nice.Suet pudding was excellent, but served with chips, would expect mashor potatoes, I am sure it was not with chips on previous visits.Extremely rude lady who approached me and said SIT DOWN as Iwas taking my coat off. This pub was recommended to us by the owner of a shop in Downham Market so we took a chance that they could fit us in . Luckily they could .The food was really delicious. Starters of haddock goujons and cured beef were lovely. The cured beef just melted in your mouth and both of us shared it as the portion was very generous. Mains of Cajun salmon and pork belly were really lovely. The pork belly in particular was perfect. The meat melted in your mouth but the cracking was crisp, perfect! The service was good with staff happy to swap mash for chips on the pork dish. We would have loved desserts but both of us were so full we could only manage coffee. We have no hesitation in recommending The Hare Arms. You probably need to book at busy times though , it’s obviously popular , deservedly so.

From the moment we arrived it was obvious that this establishment has adhered to all the guidelines regarding Covid, ensuring that a visit to them is a very safe and enjoyable experience. We had carpaccio (incredible) and haddock goujons as a starter followed by beef madras and fish and chips. We couldn’t resist trying the fig and frangipani tartlet as a dessert, the figs actually came from the owners garden and were amazing. It was very busy for a Wednesday night, with everyone eating, some even staying on the outside tables when it got dark!Service was very good, staff cheerful and upbeat, using disposable gloves whilst clearing tables, cutlery was all wrapped and condiments served in sachets as per the government guidelines. We’re already looking forward to our next visit.Congratulations to the owners on their professionalism in these difficult times.

Went out for a birthday meal with friends and booked The Hare Arms on a recommendation. We were greeted and asked if we wanted to eat inside or out. We were taken through to the garden at the rear- it is massive so social distancing was not an issue. We ordered drinks and food. We had a vegetarian gluten free requirement in our party of 4 but that was not an issue. I had the scotch egg as a starter - delicious, the halloumi salad with chips - fantastic, and the poached pear, what a perfect way to spend the evening. All 4 of us felt like we had gone back in time to a quintessential English summer’s evening with great service, great beer and wine and a fantastic time had by all. Toilets were available inside. The only downside was their card machine was not working and they had not informed us before we came, when we got there or during the meal. So we were left at the end of the meal a bit concerned about our card details, address, phone no. Etc being taken and stored.

So this was the first visit since the start of COVID , but not my first time here , so there were four of us and generally the food was acceptable and I had some great comments form the people around the table esp around the goujons, so the over all good food.Unfortunately the scotch egg needs something doing to it as it was not what I expected , my previous starter was served with a nice garnish and when I cut into it the yolk was still runny , this egg was served into a metal dish and because I did not want mustard it was plain and very dry hence the mayonnaise used to give it some moisture .We waited nearly an hour from finishing our starter to asking where our main course was to be told we are busy and with social distancing the kitchen was really busy - lesson here don’t open to so many customers if you can’t serve them, my meal turned up and again unfortunately it looked like it had been sat waiting to be served as the batter was soggy and chips only just warm Apart from one meal the guys enjoyed their dinner

1st trip to a restaurant since lockdown eased. Visited on a lovely Sunny Sunday afternoon. Sat outside in the glorious back beer garden. Very clean, spacious and beautiful, no insects either. Was served by the charming Fraser, who could not have been more helpful and polite. Food was fantastic, I had Roast beef with all the trimmings and my son had beer battered Haddock with chips and mushy peas. Served within about 10 minutes, piping hot, well presented and delicious. At around £13.00 for each, we could not fault it considering the quality. We will definitely be back and recommend to friends and family. Oh yeah and I have to mention the gorgeous peacock we called Percy, who was very friendly and visited our table. Who knew peacocks like a pinch of Yorkshire pudding? ( Dont tell the owners).

I had the Moroccan bean burger with halloumi and roasted pepper served with lovely big fat chips and salad and homemade coleslaw. Lovely. My partner had the fish, chips and mushy peas and ended up leaving some of his fish, which I finished off. It was lovely, well cooked and with a lovely light batter. We visited the hare arms as a family with my mother and father in law while they were over for a visit. We went in on a midweek evening and the place was rather quiet so we thought we would sit at the bar however because we took our children we fund ourselves being moved into the "family room" which was cold and on the side there was also no atmosphere in there as we were the only table. I do understand that sometimes children can be a pain when your eating but how it was handled and the fact the pub was very quiet made us feel a bit unwanted even though we had booked. The food was fine, I think i chose badly as my salmon was swimming in soy sauce but the rest of my family said theirs was alright. We didn't bother ordering desserts as we felt like a hinderance. Visiting Norfolk from our home in Scotland, we enjoyed an excellent meal with friends at the Hare Arms, with good service and comfortable surroundings. So far, so very good. However, when it came to paying, mine host refused to accept our Scottish notes. He first did not accept it is legal tender (which it is), secondly he stated that Scottish notes are deemed suspect by 'the bank'. We were made to feel that we were attempting to pass counterfeit money! What had been a most enjoyable evening with friends was thus ruined by his attitude. I’ve had loads of meals at this country pub that I’ve always thought offers great food at the higher end, price wise for pub fare but the quality meant it was worth it. I’d say we usually went a couple of times a month. We went yesterday and weren’t impressed at all. The steak used to come with tasty chunky chips but have been replaced with cheap low quality frozen ones that taste like a below average kebab shop chip/an Iceland value oven chip. When I commented to the staff they said no one likes them and they’d pass it on to the management. They also said they were the same ones another local restaurant used. Don’t wish to name the other restaurant but one I’d deemed inferior to the Hare Arms and hence we don’t go there. If the other restaurant is what you see as your competition then beat them don’t copy them. When paying £25 for a main meal I expect good quality freshly prepared food, ideally home made but quality either way. The few pence you’ve saved on the new chips are loosing you my custom and from the staffs comments maybe others. Please get off the race to the bottom.

Service was not only slow but also very rude - I even saw the manager (short brown hair) having a go at one of the poor young waitresses. Is this how you run a restaurant?

As a family we visited for a meal to celebrate our grandson's 18th birthday. We were welcomed immediately and shown to our table. There were eight of us. Drink orders were taken and delivered without delay. We had mains and desserts. A wide range of choices met all our needs. Food was delivered at the same time for all eight of us. It was well presented, hot and a good portion. The beef ribs were favourite for several of us. Delicious and generous. A good night out at an average price for this type of meal.

My mother has lived in the area for many years and the Hare has always been a family favourite. Congratulations to the team running it now, we visited for Sunday lunch ( yesterday) and for coffee this morning. Superb food yesterday, had the roast and it was 10/10. Service smiley, welcoming. Always enjoyed Palmers prior to this but the changes you have made at the Hare are fabulous. Well done and thank you. Will be back!

Visited on a Saturday night and The Hare Arms was very busy and found a seat in a corner. Quick service at the bar and a reasonable choice on the menu. The draw back for this establishment is the parking as the carpark is badly lit and has a lot of overhanging shrubbery.

Spur of the moment visit one Friday evening, the restaurant was fully booked but managed to get a table in the bar. Had the beef bourguignon pie which was delicious and very reasonably priced. Although it was very busy the wait wasn’t too long. Eaten here a few times and the food is always good and staff lovely.

Visited on a recommendation and we weren't disappointed. Meal was well presented and very tasty. The pub was traditional and very much in keeping with the community location. Ample parking. Would recommend to others. Just watch out for the Peacocks when parking!

Went there recently. It was not busy but we were ignored at the bar having made a table booking. Finally a waitress acknowledged us but instead of showing us to our table then taking our drinks order she thought it ok for us to carry our own drinks from the bar.Needed prompting to bring the menu then again to order. Probably lack of training. But it should not happen and was a contrast to our previous experience of The Hare.

VERY Slow service at Lunch waited 35 mins between starters & main course but not full. Reason is overpriced, food quality down portion control sizes just about OK on main courses but pitiful on starters eg Scallops just 3 of them with a quarter of piece of black pudding on each with a pea moose for £9.75 Once Had twice shy Fortunately many good options within 3 miles

Had lunch today. Very good starters but some could have been a little hotter. Main meals very good but a couple of items should should also have been a bit hotter. Desserts O.K.

Such a shame that the chef has lost the way at the Hare Arms - We had the roast beef lunch which was a complete let down. The beef was overcooked, dry and had the consistency of cheap cardboard, The roast potatoes were unseasoned and tasteless which were not made any better by the glutenous gravy that lacked any sort of flavour. I would say that the veg, whilst unseasoned were cooked well. Service in general was poor, it took 10 + mins to get served at the bar then a 20 min wait for our food which when served looked like it had been under a heat lamp for 10 mins. Overall our lunch experience was very poor which is a shame as this used to be a good eatery local to us.

Visited The Hare Arms with friends on a Saturday evening. Obviously a very popular pub/restaurant as it was very busy. Well laid out menu at reasonable prices, with a good choice. Also gluten free dishes. Prompt service from staff who were very friendly and attentive. No rush or hurry. Will definitely go again to try something different from the menu. Four of us, three courses each plus a couple of extra drinks £126.00.

The Food here is absolutely delicious I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed it... swift service from both the bar staff before we were seated and the waitress that looked after us. Everything was so fresh and home made which sadly is SUCH a rare thing most places you tend to go these days. Lots of choice for vegetarians too, the mushroom Wellington was delicious... with the cheese creme brulee starter to die for, it was so rich and tasty... thoroughly recommend anyone to eat here, it's a true tucked away little gem 5******

Called in for lunch. We all had starters which were delicious.I had the wild mushrooms,2 had the haddock goujons and 1 had the scallops. For main course, 3 had the beef bourginon pie and I had the most perfectly cooked sea trout. All the food was hot and freshly cooked, couldn't fault it. Will definitely go again next time we are in Norfolk.

Good choice on a specific gluten free menu (which always makes me feel that they have a good understanding of gluten free requirements). I had the sharing baked Camembert with gluten free toast - but didn't share! My husband had the fish and chips. Both were presented beautifully and were very enjoyable. Lovely outside seating area and great service. Would return if we are in the area again.

Was very annoyed when I tried to pay for our drinks with my Scottish £20 note and was informed that they didn’t accept them! When I asked why that was , she replied — the banks have told us not to accept them.

Good food in a lovely setting. The staff are always welcoming and the service very good. Prices seem to be towards the high end of what I would expect to pay for this type of eatery but then the food is on the cross over point that takes it from traditional pub food and more towards restaurant quality. Definitely recommend.

Two adults and two dogs enjoyed our weekend at the GTI. From arrival, the personalised touches really made for a memorable experience- homemade cakes, gin and tonic in the suite, relaxed but efficient service and delightfully presented accommodation. The pub and restaurant is wonderful, the food is exceptional. The service was wonderfully attentive and relaxed, the prices were good value. We ate in the restaurant and the pub, both menus were superb. We visited beaches, ran around the Downs, shopped in Burnham Market and Thornham Farm shops.

Probably my worst WS meal ever. 3 sausages almost burnt, they were tasteless and well overcooked which I said to the server who grinned at me. The chips as usual most were hard and inedible, peas hard. Served in a bowl with gravy all over the chips. WS has had a problem with hard chips for months, I have complained to staff and emailed head office to no avail. Thats it I AM NOT eating at a WS any more.

Made to feel like a leper when we walked in by I assume locals just staring. My 13 year old daughter left the door open, to which one of them got up and slammed the door. Was told they'd put 2 small round tables together in the middle of the room for three of us. Felt so uncomfortable we left. Was just like the scene in American werewolf in London, amazed someone wasn't playing darts. Avoid, go to one of the chips shops instead!

Excellent lunch as part of Norfolk Restaurant week. Had 3 courses, delicious chicken breast with parsnip purée, fondant potato, cavolo Nero and mushroom sauce. My husband had bream with a Chinese twist. We both had the steamed Guinness sponge pudding with whiskey caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. Staff are lovely and very attentive despite a busy restaurant. Have been meaning to visit for ages and it was worth the trip! We will be back.
