Popped in for a quick drink on Sunday afternoon and loved the relaxed atmosphere. Having seen the menu (and the amazing food being served) we stayed for an impromptu Sunday roast. We shared a delicious scallops starter followed by Roast Beef and Roast Turkey meals which were very tasty and beautifully presented. Service was friendly and efficient throughout and we will definitely return. Well worth a visit!

Excellent service from really friendly staff. Food was really tasty and very filling. Perfectly cooked turkey dinner. Very tasty prawn cocktail and excellent comments for Christmas pud and the apple crumble with custard from the group. It's just a very clean welcoming pub.

I just called as it was on my way back home and I didn't want to cook this particular Sunday evening. The place is great, nicely laid out, well decorated and the staff are really friendly and helpful. I had a great meal, well cooked and presented and was exactly what I wanted that evening. It couldn't have been better for me, just right. I will certainly go again and reccommend it to anyone reading this review.

This newly refurbished pub, which will soon being doing food again, was a great place to be on 31 Dec 2017 / 01 Jan 2018 The bar staff were a great and happy bunch who kept up a great service throughout the night. There was a mixture of locals & visitors in the bar and everyone was very enthusiastic for the new look and feel of the pub. There seemed to be a sense of relief that the village had its ‘local’ back! The beer was good and the bar staff were a dab-hand at cocktails too! Being just off the Pennine Way it’s great place to stop for a rest & some refreshment be it alcohol or beverage. I believe they have a nice garden terrace out the back which will be nice to sit out on later in the year.

As my dad isn't on TripAdvisor, I am writing on his behalf. My mum and dad were out walking and they were looking forward to a bowl of soup and a pint. They were outside knocking mud off their boots when the landlord came out and told them there was no point in doing that as they have to take their boots off anyway because they have just had new carpets! Now, we all understand that no-one wants their new carpets spoiling and that muddy walking boots would mess them up. The point is that the landlord was very off-hand. Had he have asked nicely or been that little bit more polite, my mum and dad would have offered to take their boots off before they were asked. They put on their waterproofs and continued on their way. In this instance, the pub has lost business: not a whole loads but £15-£20s worth. In the current climate, surely no business wants that. In summary, For a landlord to speak in the way that he did to potential customer is really doing him no good whatsoever. If he treats all potential customers like this, no doubt the Hare and Hounds will become just another pub with a "To Let" sign hanging off the wall.

I've visited this pub for the past three years as a very welcome stop on The Spine race. I've always found the landlord to be very personable and always enjoy the banter in the pub. It's a very welcoming place to have a meal & the landlord puts on some great home cooked meals at very reasonable prices. This year we were amazed to find the landlord had put sheets on the seats so we could all sit down and enjoy our meals without removing our boots! This was a treat as we were very tired & being able to sit in our muddy gear was fantastic. The place has a very warm & welcoming atmosphere & a real open fire. This was by far the best place we stop at on the Pennine Way & I can highly recommend. Can't wait to visit again.

Walking The Pennine Way and came across this establishment in Lothersdale and decided to sit outside and have a drink as it was a nice day and dogs are not allowed inside. My wife walked into the foyer of the pub and began reading the myriad of signage warning walkers to either take off their walking boots or put on the overshoes provided - fair enough. As she was about to reach for the overshoes a man who I assume to be the Landlord came out and spoke to her in a rather offhand and extremely rude manner informing her to "Take off tha' boots or put tha' overshoes on". It may have been better for him to have spoken in a much more civil tone something along the lines of "Good Afternoon - I am sorry but we do not allow walking boots in the pub - would you mind taking off your boots or put on the overshoes we have provided". As it was she was going to do that anyway. My point here is that it costs to nothing to speak to people in a civil, normal manner - particularly as they are guests in your pub and willing to spend money. Uncalled for, extremely rude and totally unnecessary. Maybe we caught him on a bad day - I hope so. The Diet Coke tasted alright!

We found the Hare & Hounds quite by accident whilst out for a drive. A board outside stated that food was served between 12noon and 9pm on Saturdays and Sunday's. It was a chilly day but inside the pub was a lovely roaring fire. There was a good selection on the printed menu and also an extensive specials board. The prices were all very reasonable even for the steaks. We ordered two beef and ale pies. Both came after a short wait, the food and the plates were piping hot, the portion sizes were excellent, veg was served separate and was a selection of peas, carrot and swede mash, beans and tomato. The meal was excellent, very tasty and very filling. The total cost of the meal and drinks came to just over £20, great value for money. Would highly recommend if in the area.

Called here today, 26 Nov 2014, and just as we were going to take our boots of in the doorway, the Landlord called us to come in anyway. No problem with boots he said! The weather was damp after rain, (so were we!) he showed us to a large corner table near the roaring open fire and asked what we wanted to drink, a warm welcome indeed! Decked out with Xmas décor, the pub was very inviting and warm, food ordered and drinks brought to the table (3 pints of Blondie, 1 coffee and a large Coke) we settled in and chatted to some locals. The beer was on form and we didn't have to wait long for our food, 2 corned beef and onion pie, 1 braised steak, 1 steak and ale pie, all with chips and a large bowl of vegies for 3 of us. The other chap had the soup, which was home made vegetable and large wedge of crusty bread. No complaints at all, and the clean plates were a testimony to the taste and quality! Followed by coffee for 4 of us and we were very happy walkers indeed No problem with this establishment at all, I guess it boils down to how you treat other people for the welcome you get! Recommended.

4 of us were cycling on a coast to coast bike ride and stopped at the Hare and Hounds for lunch. With 2 wonderful open fires/wood burners we could not have been made more welcome by either the Landlord, his wife or the other diners. They proudly stated that we were 'in Yorkshire' and the food and Theakstons bitter went down a treat. They even specialise in rabbit pie and all I would ask is that they consider adding cheese and onion pie to the menu for when I next visit. Thanks a million to you!!

This is a lovely pub with welcoming real fires in the winter months and hearty home cooking that can be washed down with a good selection of real ales.We visited recently for a meal and will definitely be back.Lothersdale is a lovely quiet little village nearer to Skipton than Keighley. It's also on the Pennine Way and some of the poor reviews I have seen are from walkers. I have to say that if it was my pub I would fall over myself to make walkers feel welcome. There is little enough trade in this location and being on the Pennine Way has to be an advantage worth grabbing. The landlord is actually a friendly bloke but a bit of a character and maybe he doesn't come across well when you first enter! He prefers walkers to take off their boots before walking on his Axminster (which is not unreasonable when you think of it) and provides boot shelves at the entrance. Fair play to him, but if it was me I would find the money to put in a stone floor area for hikers. Maybe they don't spend a great deal on their first visit but I would want them to come back at some point for some pub grub.It would be a tragedy if this lovely pub was to close, and I recommend you try it out for yourself.Top tip: have a look at the local mill opposite which boasts the largest indoor water wheel in the world at 44 feet in diameter.

Generous portions of well prepared traditional Pub fare which the whole family enjoyed in the rear beer garden, - could not have been more pleasant.Decent ales on tap and a decent bit of sunshine....perfect!.I see that the Landlord doesn't want to have to clean up other people's mud and dog hair / mess - and who can blame him?....First had a beer here 35 years ago when doing the Pennine Way....not changed a bit ( and the house rules were the same!). I had the steak and kidney pud which looked like it had been made in a cowboy's hat...absolutely delicious....can't wait to go back!!... The corned beef and onion pie also comes highly recommended.Wont wait as long to go back next time......

I guess the sign on the door asking walkers to remove their boots before they enter the bar should have given me the clue that this pub was not a good place for walkers. As I was a tired and hungry walker doing the Pennine Way for charity, I didn't have the energy to take my boots off. I decided to perch on one of his completely empty outside tables away from the door to eat my packed lunch and think about whether I wanted to remove my boots for the sake of an orange juice. However the decision was made for me when the landlord appeared at the door and asked me to move on. I got the impression that he lies in wait to be unpleasant to walkers. Can I suggest to him that if he doesn't like walkers, that he shouldn't be running a pub on the most famous National Trail in England?

I had a similar experience to a previous reviewer. We were out walking the Pennine Way and got to Lothersdale around lunch time. We had a dog with us and our hearts sank slightly as we read the notices at the door stating that the pub was not welcoming to dogs or people wearing hiking boots. As we were hungry I offered to take my boots off and go in while my friends waited outside. I approached the bar and greeted the man behind the bar with a smile and hello as you do but he didnt react in any way. He just stood there looking at me and not saying a word. Somewhat non-plussed I asked if they were serving food and he managed to direct me towards a menu on a table. This must have required a herculean effort on his part. He didnt of course bother to fetch one for me. I would steer clear unless you are famished as rather than a welcome in the hills this was like walking into a set from the League of Gentlemen! "This is a local pub for loooocal people!"

I have sadly no idea what the food is like - nor indeed, the beer at this establishment. I was walking the PW with my wife and Lothersdale is strategically placed for a lunchtime stop. The day was hot and dry and I said to my wife that I wanted to sit inside. I had barely got the front door open, not even a foot inside, when a booming voice from the direction of the bar told me I 'couldn't come in with boots on'. I could take them off or be served outside! I saw no obvious notification of this restriction. Outside, I could see nothing of the drink or food choice, still less of the price list.No thank you: with that sort of tactless welcome, you can watch our business walk away.I was not prepared to get my socks dirty on the pub floor: we weren't offered any sort of 'slippers' or over-shoe bags. Ironically, he couldn't have seen the condition of our boots from his distance - which were clean, dry and mud free (a rare treat indeed on the PW). If that is typical of the welcome handed out, I'm surprised this pub survives. There are plenty of hostelries on or near the PW which willingly accept muddy boots and dogs. Power and business to them.

We visit the Hare and Hounds quite a few times for Sunday tea and every time we go we are never disappointed. Meals are always served in big portions, our favourite is the Steak which is always cooked to perfection with an ample serving of extras along with it - onion rings, egg, salad and chips all for under 13 pounds (Surf and Turf 11.75). Food served from 6 until 9pm on a Sunday and also earlier on in the day although I am not sure of the times as we always visit in the evening. The pub also serves fantastic Cask Ales.A typical country pub with two open fires, and friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit if you have not tried it already!

We go to the Hare & Hounds in Lothersdale, whenever we get chance. Its a really lovely warm and welcoming pub, with nice beer and traditional home cooked food. The menu is a real treat, the game pie is delicious, the roast dinners, beef, chicken & lamb, all with yorkshire puds and various veg, (my mouth is watering just thinking about it), are just like my Nan used to make. The pub itself is olde worlde, with a lovely open fire and beamed ceilings and there is seating outside in the summer months too. Its at the start of the Pennine way and the surroundings are quite breath taking, its one of my favourite places to eat, and I cant wait to go back :o)

We called in here to break up a car journey and my wife had the sausage bap and I had the bacon bap. The baps were a good size with plenty of filling, indeed my wife was unable to finish hers. All the staff were efficient and helpful and we may well have to return again in the not too distant future.
