Harbourside Fish & Chips in Plymouth

Ordered a large cod and chips, what I got was this small scabby bit of fish stuck to all my chips, joke!

I need to give a big shout out to Lana for her excellent service I told her no tartar sauce or lemon on my fish and chips and she personally went to the kitchen and told them I can’t thank her enough for her experience and professional manner she went above and beyond for me and my friends and even know she was busy she kept her smile will definitely return thank you Lana 😀😀😀😀

Awful! Asked before I left have you put the sauces in the bag curry sauce etc to which she replied yes I’ve done it, 30 minutes drive away and nope not in the bag also burger was like a leather boot horrid. Would only offer a refund on the sauces which is very annoying as obviously the whole meal isn’t the same without the sauce would never go back not even an apology from the girl on the phone about missing stuff out.

Best fish and chips for a long long time. Service good food great no faults. Haddock and chips super tasty. Had take away sat outside and enjoyed.

Award winning fish and chips cooked to order and served harbourside. Absolutely delicious eaten inside or out overlooking the quay. Plymouth's Barbican has long been a favourite spot for a saunter but now there's an extra reason to linger while soaking up the ambience of the cobbled Elizabethan streets. Cod and haddock were on my mind when I walked in to order a takeout until I feasted my eyes on the Seafood Platter. Surely not...in a chippie? Well it had to be done...Scampi, prawn twisters, spicy crab cakes, salt and pepper squid, a wedge of lemon and sweet chilli dip. All served with chips in a jaunty Smeaton's Tower lighthouse box. This is such a great idea that while my friend and I went for a platter each, the portions are big enough to merit ordering one platter to eat as starters and one fish of your fancy for a main between two. Harbourside was recommended to me by a family member and fellow Plymouthian as being the best in the area. With the added bonus of offering both the takeaway shop and sit down restaurant it's a win win for everyone whatever the British weather.

We were looking for traditional fish and chips and passed this one. The portion size is perfect and the fish is fresh!

Great fish and chip restaurant, cod's good, generous portions. For vegetarians the halloumi is awesome too. Will come again. If you order cheesy chips be prepared for the oversized gravy boat of cheese!!

The restaurant had a friendly and vibrant atmoshere, service was punctual and food was delicous good value for money.

Conveniently close to Barbican and harbour. Quick service, I was sat there in the evening. Good tea, would have preferred a pot of tea though

The best fish and chips we have had in years. Freshly cooked to order. Perfect food 5 minutes drive from Brittany Ferries Port, open until 10.30pm unlike most that shut at 9pm and had decent reviews that were spot on. Highly recommend 👍🏻

The hight of proper fish and chips. If you come to Plymouth as a guest or are a hungry local this is the place. Non-greasy fish, fantastic chips (some days better than others but never had a bad bag from here). Also they have a Gluten Free restaurant next to the take out. Honestly might prefer the Gluten Free fish but either one you choose your not having a bad meal.

Popped in yesterday with my partner and kids and what a good move that was. I'm pretty certain this may of been the best fish & chips I've ever had! Highly recommend!

Ordered Scampi and Chips. Was a recommendation from a couple from the Fisherman’s Arms which by the way is the most beautiful pub selling the best Sunday Roasts.. We went to Harbourside during the week for lunch. The girls working (Ellie & Poppy) were great. Super attentative, good communication & very friendly. Food & service were very good. We will be back.

Worst fish and chips ever! Chips are not proper thick chip shop style. Fish was overcooked and dry. Batter was soggy and tasteless. No ketchup or other condiments for customers to use. No fresh lemon or tartare sauce. Service not great. No variety of fish, only cod! Southend on sea (Lena's) is where they should learn how proper fish and chips by sea is supposed to be. Never written a review before but had to after this experience, honestly better off just going to local wetherspoons and getting it half price and better!

I really recommend the Haddock and Chips. We sat upstairs in the restaurant and were given a first class service by the wonderful Lilly and Maggie 😊 They were amazing, definitely both assets to the company and you girls are hard workers 💪🏻 My husband and I popped in here when on a tour around Plymouth and definitely made our day more pleasant. We will definitely be back!

What a disappointment, we've visited this place several times before, and have always had a good meal. . So today we decided to pop in for an early lunch 12noon, wish we hadn't are meal was awful, chips looked and tasted as if they were cooked the day before. Will not be going back for an early lunch again....

A wonderful little dining area upstairs to eat. Delicious food & wine, reasonably priced. We were served by Anuraag & Sophia, both hardworking, friendly, professional, giving the place a happy,relaxed vibe.

Stopped at the Harbourside for some food whilst exploring the Barbican. Great quality and very reasonably priced. Served. By a polite and helpful young man who went the extra mile to ensure we enjoyed our food. 🙂🙂

Spot on food and price, staff were absolutely flawless, very busy but very friendly and polite would definitely recommend if your in the area.

We popped in today whilst out on the Barbican enjoying some sunshine. Everything was fantastic, the food, the service, and also the food arrived very quickly, it was piping hot and tasted fantastic. We’ve been visiting the Harbourside for many years and I don’t think we can name a single time that we were disappointed with the food and service.

Quite simply the best fish I've ever tasted. Cod and peas to take out,freshly cooked so a small wait. Absolutely delicious.

Great fish and chips in a great location. Good fish at the market price. Cooked to order. Eat outside or in the more expensive restaurant upstairs but best of all get a takeaway and eat at your favourite place on the Barbican

I didn't have an issue with the good, chips were great. But I have an issue with WASTE ,because at closing time they chuck away any cooked food that remains when we have homeless people on the streets! A Bad policy!! Give it Away!

Great range of gluten free options and snappy service

Quick service , freshly cooked. Fish delicious. Sauces come in recyclable pots instead of impossible to open sachets . Friendly staff. Seating outside , indoors upstairs and takeaway. Would recommend.

Disappointing. Had chips from both restaurants, was excited for my gluten free ones. Sadly they lacked in any flavour. They messed up the orders for salt and vinegar on my family's chips, which made them taste even more bland. Such a shame as we hardly ever eat out and this was a treat.

Beautiful fish and chips, cooked freshly and very hot. There are some tables inside and outside for use.

Very disappointed with my delivery order, have had fish from here a year ago and it was good. But been delivered undercooked soggy battered fish??? Why? I wouldn't mind if they had taken some extra time to cook it properly no need for speedy delivery for raw batter!

We had been looking forward to eating here again after the last holiday we had. Henry is an asset to the company. Service is first class as is the food. Can't wait for our next visit.

The food is good in the fact it was gluten free however portions were small, my sons order was forgotten but that was ammended for free. No sauces on the table as ate inside .

The worst fish and chips I have ever had! Fish was extremely chewy and tasted old, wasn’t fresh and fall apart like you would expect, chips were undercooked and massively lacked in flavour! £23 for two small cod and chips Is ridiculous considering the quality, I would be more than happy to pay that if the food was good. Will not return! Such a shame that’s it’s the only fish and chips you can get on the Barbican, if it was elsewhere I think it would close

Food was lovely but expensive , girl behind the counter was rude when I was asking for a napkin and fork and told me It was in the box walked 10 mins back to my car and there was no napkin or fork.

£7 for an underwhelming, small for the price burger. Without any sides or even a drink. Price could be excused if it came with chips and a drink.

OK. Expected better for the price

I popped in here with a mate because we were looking for somewhere that was gluten free and this place had a gluten free sign on the window. When I asked what was gluten free, they said everything. I had a battered sausage and chips, which was lovely. The staff were friendly and welcoming, so we will return.

Oh WOW, what amazing meals we had. Fish and chips were just beautiful white flaky meat, and chips were just perfect. Battered saysage and chips were awesome. The service was great. Friendly team with smiles on their face. Will be back on our next visit to Plymouth. Best fish and chips yet.

Bought food today at 11:20 open perfect think the chip's were from yesterday in the bucket dark in whiteness very poor taste when you know they were old chips.

Absolutely outstanding fish and chips! We had the regular cod, chips and mushy peas meal deal with additional teas, eating in. Both agree it was the best fish and chips we have ever had!

I been going here all my life and when I sat in they put food on a plate but today it was like they ran out off plate’s can’t be ask to do the dishes as we all got cardboard box and your menu on the website is different to the menu in and staff on there phone

The food was nice, lovely and hot... Good portion size, a wee bit pricey but like anywhere on the barbican you pay a small premium for the location. Thank you to the staff who were all working really hard 🙏

Not the cheapest, but reasonable prices considering how expensive The Barbican is in general. And the food is excellent, really good quality fish and chips. Highly recommended if you’re in the area.

Spotlessly clean. I didn't get the name of the young man who waited on us, (the receipt says Henry?) but he was charming and efficient, and ever so polite, we loved him!! A real credit to the establishment!! Food was exceptional, absolutely delicious!! My son was visiting home for Christmas after spending a few years traveling abroad and had come from Canada, and had missed fish and chips so much!! The server could not have been more welcoming, which is just what you need after a few years away. If I could give more than five stars, I would

Staff didn't really acknowledge us just took our order seemed more busy in laughing and chatting with each other than paying attention to customers. Items were missing or wrong all in all not a great visit food was warm and nothing to right home about. Shame as normally a really good place to go.

Trust me, just go. You won't be disappointed.

Brilliant service from lily in the table service upstairs, and fish and chips plus the mushy peas were very tasty, one thing we would say is the paper the fish is on could be more absorbing than the waxed paper that you use now?

Very average which was disappointing compared with previous visits. Batter was soggy and they forgot to give me the curry sauce that I paid for.

Take out again tonight and never disappointed. The fish, Haddock, was cooked to perfection. Excellent as always.
