Crown and Anchor in Plymouth

A group of workmates went there on a Friday evening, a nice atmosphere and good service by bar staff. It is located on the corner of Southside Street and New Street in the heart of the Barbican.

I would just like to thank this amazing pub with amazing staff for a fantastic Saturday night, I’m in a wheelchair and there was nothing that was to much trouble they looked after me and my friends from start to finish. Thank you again Craig

A large group of us came here for a birthday celebration, from the very first contact, the service was first class. Nothing was too much trouble, even last minute guests joining us wasn’t an issue. Special mention to Charmaine, Luca and Charlotte who were great, but the whole team also deserve a thank you, as they were all lovely. Food was fab too! Thank you so much

Booked a table for 23 family and friends celebrating my Mum's 80th Birthday. Contacted Tonia a month before hand to sort it all out and she responded to emails quickly and answered any questions I had professionally. We were given access to the pubs upstairs room so it was like a private party with our own bar. The food come out on time, was nice and hot, very tasty and the portions were very generous. Extremely good value for money and the menu was quite extensive with plenty of choices. I would highly recommend to anyone who needs a booking for a large group of people

This pub is a gem of a place. It's a great night out with good music and the staff go above and beyond. We organised a family party there recently and nothing was too much trouble for Tony and the team. Charmain is the manager and her and her team were very helpful and friendly and ensured everything went smoothly. I intend to try the Sunday roast soon as I've heard they are the best.

The best pub on the Barbican in Plymouth. A great venue, ran by great people with a brilliant atmosphere! I’ve had the pleasure to come to the Crown & Anchor on many Friday / Saturday nights, and it has always been my favourite place to come on the Barbican. Good people, good music (mostly - cheers Gary!) and always a good time. Me and my partner also have the experience of recently hiring out the private function room for an event (a special mention to Charmaine & Tony for making this so easy for us!) We didn’t even have to think about where we wanted to have our event, we knew it would be here - the staff go above & beyond. We have some great memories here and recommend it to anyone visiting the Barbican or are looking at venues for private events.

Had to leave a review the burger was amazing but the onion rings on the side, best ever!!! Thankyou to the lovely Charmaine for serving us and being so attentive

Well the beer is fantastic, you just need to get past the bar people that serve regulars first but hey, the real ale is brilliant. Take a coat though in the winter

Stopped here for lunch with our dog and it was perfect. The staff are all super friendly and went out of their way to welcome our dog. We had a 2 course lunch deal and the starter (crayfish cocktail) was lovely and fresh and a very decent portion. Our mains were Lasagne which was homemade a very tasty and gammon egg and chips with nice thick cut ham, home made chips and very well cooked eggs. Good honest food at reasonable prices.

Don't understand the Reviews,it's only nice on very sunny days,it's also quite expensive but suppose it is what it is u pay for what u get & the bar staff are never in a hurry to serve!but in all fairness it's the same everywhere in Plymouth nowadays,no one's in any hurry.

Would have given this a zero star if I could, drinks flat off pump, would rate service as a negative if I could. Would not change a flat drink for fresh drink and made us pay for replacement, and customer service from barmaid was appalling, came here beforeand enjoyed but would not recommend if you are looking for a good atmosphere and happy staff. Stay away

We found this little gem in Plymouth.. Amazing food, good wine & most importantly, really nice staff... The landlady clearly loves her pub & it shows.. I highly recommend 👌

Great New years party. Mixed age group, brilliant staff. Have been a couple of times on a Saturday night, great attmosphear, mixed age, lots of 80s.

Roast dinner was microwaved slop, I wasn’t expecting anything good but this was shockingly bad.

Nice roast! Good quantiles and giant Yorkshire puddings. Recommend on a Sunday!

Lovely breakfast, friendly staff

I liked the quiet atmosphere. Unfortunately my biscuits and cheese was very nice once I had out of date crackers that were soft. They did replace the crackers. I am sure it gets a lot busier later in the evening.

All good, great friendly service & nice beer, did not eat here but other customer's food looked very nice. Highly recommended.

Visited yesterday for Sunday lunch. Fantastic, with a choice of lots of vegetables and served hot. Staff friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend

What a beautiful little place! Lovely decor, staff were welcoming and friendly. Couldn’t do enough for us, but not in your face. The food was STUNNING! An independent chain so some unusual extras to the normal pub menu you’d expect such as a selection of loaded fries. Highly recommend.

Absolutely loved this place! Staff were incredibly friendly and happy to chat. They were very accommodating as we were a large party. Food was incredible and the atmosphere was very relaxing. Nice to get away from the usual chain pubs☺️

We had a Baby Shower here recently, I have to say how fabulous the Venue was Friendly and fun atmosphere . The food was delicious and the staff couldn’t do enough for us! Brilliant Service all around! Thank you 👏👏👏👏

Given the private room upstairs, which has its own its own bar to watch the football. We originally booked our tables downstairs, but as the management asked us to move upstairs, we were given free nibbles at half time. Staff friendly

We came here yesterday and we had the most incredible roast dinners and the fish and chips were amazing. Great staff, service and food.

I was after a Sunday beef roast but they had ran out of veggies so I opted for Fish n chips - the fish was easily the worst I ever had in my life! Uncooked, soggy and absolutely tasteless! Mushy peas a joke!

Enjoyed lunch at Crown and anchor, I had the crab and prawn cocktail salad ( Delicious plenty of both prawns and crab lovely salad, my husband had cod and chips( lovely fresh fish with nice crispy batter). Will definitely visit again on our next visit to Plymouth. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Food was okay, not top but good old pub food, 3course for under 20£ now that's a fantastic price... Friendly and fast service, even got me extra gravy for free.I like a lot of gravy 😁Highly recommend Tony and Tonya place on a Sunday afternoon. Will be going again

We stopped here for a pint and a meal before heading to the ferry port. The staff were great and beer was good. The meals were tasty and portions large. Will look this place up again when I visit Plymouth next.

Excellent pub grub at excellent prices. I have eaten here many times because it is excellent value for money. The service is very good and friendly.

Frozen veg and the prawn cocktail just tasted of salty water worst I have ever tasted also hardly any sauce on it ,didn’t like what it was served in a half pint mug also had to pay for it all up front never ever had to do that

Order prawns was watery horrible ordered a roast beef the beef was tough and veg was frozen rubbish watery was waiting a long time and was given the wrong meal ordered small was given my granddaughter meal will not go there again

We have been going to the Crown for years and love our Sunday roast Today we had roast beef x2 and one fish chips and peas. Our meal was not what we expected.The veg was overcooked and tasteless and the cauliflower cheese was a spoonful of mush. Last month our meals were brilliant so what on earth has happened?

We had our daughters graduation meal here last night. Honestly Tonia and her team couldn’t do enough. Lovely food, lovely function room, highly recommend ❤️

Nice spot near the water in Plymouth. Food is good, people are friendly and not expensive.

The roast dinner was amazing. Everything was piping hot and I think I had every single vegetable on my plate😋. The girls (staff) were so lovely and made a big fuss of my dog (dogs are allowed in all areas, not just the wooden floor). Would go again in a heartbeat. Thank you.

We hired the Crown and Anchor for a naval retirement party which was brilliant! Nothing was too much trouble from all the staff, from the first call of the booking to the end of the night. Thank you all for a brilliant night and a special thanks to Yanah! You kept calm and smiley even when it was really busy. The food was amazing too! We will be back again.

I came here with my son for a quick drink. We were feeling a bit peckish so ordered the muscles which were the best I have ever had. We decided to come back in the evening at Becky’s advisement, when the live music was on. It was an amazing atmosphere. The staff were all extremely friendly and welcoming. Becky was extremely nice and helpful in her role and even advised us to try the Sunday roast the next day. It was amazing food. We weren’t rushed at all and was great value for money. I will definitely be back next time I am in Plymouth.

The entertainment was good to listen to. There is plenty of atmosphere here was enjoyable when we visited.

Left after 15 minutes, the server was a creep and kept finding excuses to touch my girlfriend. Was borderline drooling at the mouth which just highlighted poor dental hygiene. On Facebook appears to be called Andrew and not the first time.

We found this pub through a Google review stopped for roast dinner absolutely fantastic food lovely stuff little bit noisy as there was a football match on but when I asked if they could turn TV down a bit no problem at all beautiful pub lovely atmosphere great position on the Barbican extremely well priced.

Sunday Lunch. Party of 6. Soup starter x 2 Mushroom and Coriander tasty enough, wasn't hot enough for my husband but mine was fine, the bread served with it was a bit hard (but ok once dunked in the soup!) Duck Spring Rolls x 1 - no complaints from the recipients 👍 Roasts 1 x Chicken, 1 x Pork, 1 x Nut Roast - all absolutely delicious 😋 generous portions of veg and gravy, the mashed swede and cauliflower cheese was a nice addition, absolutely no complaints there! 2 x Beef, again very generous portions, veg and gravy delicious, unfortunately let down by very tough, chewy beef 😒 Husband gave up and left it behind (we did inform waitress so as to give feedback to the kitchen) daughter cleared her plate but agreed the meat was hard work. All Yorkshire puddings (5) that came to the table were unfortunately various degrees of burnt. So all in all, mixed feelings, unfortunately let down by lukewarm soup, tough beef and burnt yorkies! Sorry Crown & Anchor for the criticism but you're best knowing so you can rectify but everything else was amazing! 😊 It was very busy so obviously very popular. Good central location. The staff were nice and the atmosphere was relaxed.

We went for Sunday roast after reading the rave reviews, I can say it was average, the beef was of the pre sliced chewy tasteless variety as opposed to freshly carved. Plenty of food on the plate so no complaints there. Puddings were just ok, wouldn’t return but it was really busy so plenty of people must really enjoy it!

We had an amazing time here last weekend for a joint birthday party. We hired the function room for the evening, and the venue, service and atmosphere were incredible! We had a delicious buffet, which was very tasty and there was so much food! All the staff were brilliant, however, a big special shout out to Yanah who was so friendly, smiley and very lovely! She is a credit to the Crown and Anchor, thank you so much for a fab evening! :)

Had Sunday Roast after the Remembrance Day Service - cannot fault it. Food as always was delicious and great value for money. The bar was extremely busy due to the Service that day and live entertainment late afternoon. A fantastic atmosphere and despite all of the stuff being run off their feet with it being so busy, they still provided an excellent and friendly service to all customers. Highly recommend here for food and drinks.

Had a roast on Sunday and it was absolutely lovely. Huge portions in both adults and child’s. It was remembrance Sunday so really busy but the bar staff were fab! Entertainment was spot on, had a great time! Also had lunch there on Saturday and again faultless service!

Best pub on the Barbican and the food is amazing. 2 courses for £16.95 and was one of the best roast I’ve had! Have also eaten on other days and was just as happy with the food.

On arrival in Plymouth we decided to give this place a try as it was recommended by a friend. I’ve never had better food in a pub. I had the Thai monkfish curry and it was lovely. The woman behind the bar couldn’t be anymore friendlier and service was the best. Thank you for making our evening the best.
