Crown and Anchor in Plymouth

I came here with my son for a quick drink. We were feeling a bit peckish so ordered the muscles which were the best I have ever had. We decided to come back in the evening at Becky’s advisement, when the live music was on. It was an amazing atmosphere. The staff were all extremely friendly and welcoming. Becky was extremely nice and helpful in her role and even advised us to try the Sunday roast the next day. It was amazing food. We weren’t rushed at all and was great value for money. I will definitely be back next time I am in Plymouth.

Left after 15 minutes, the server was a creep and kept finding excuses to touch my girlfriend. Was borderline drooling at the mouth which just highlighted poor dental hygiene. On Facebook appears to be called Andrew and not the first time.

The entertainment was good to listen to. There is plenty of atmosphere here was enjoyable when we visited.

We found this pub through a Google review stopped for roast dinner absolutely fantastic food lovely stuff little bit noisy as there was a football match on but when I asked if they could turn TV down a bit no problem at all beautiful pub lovely atmosphere great position on the Barbican extremely well priced.

We went for Sunday roast after reading the rave reviews, I can say it was average, the beef was of the pre sliced chewy tasteless variety as opposed to freshly carved. Plenty of food on the plate so no complaints there. Puddings were just ok, wouldn’t return but it was really busy so plenty of people must really enjoy it!

Sunday Lunch. Party of 6. Soup starter x 2 Mushroom and Coriander tasty enough, wasn't hot enough for my husband but mine was fine, the bread served with it was a bit hard (but ok once dunked in the soup!) Duck Spring Rolls x 1 - no complaints from the recipients 👍 Roasts 1 x Chicken, 1 x Pork, 1 x Nut Roast - all absolutely delicious 😋 generous portions of veg and gravy, the mashed swede and cauliflower cheese was a nice addition, absolutely no complaints there! 2 x Beef, again very generous portions, veg and gravy delicious, unfortunately let down by very tough, chewy beef 😒 Husband gave up and left it behind (we did inform waitress so as to give feedback to the kitchen) daughter cleared her plate but agreed the meat was hard work. All Yorkshire puddings (5) that came to the table were unfortunately various degrees of burnt. So all in all, mixed feelings, unfortunately let down by lukewarm soup, tough beef and burnt yorkies! Sorry Crown & Anchor for the criticism but you're best knowing so you can rectify but everything else was amazing! 😊 It was very busy so obviously very popular. Good central location. The staff were nice and the atmosphere was relaxed.

We had an amazing time here last weekend for a joint birthday party. We hired the function room for the evening, and the venue, service and atmosphere were incredible! We had a delicious buffet, which was very tasty and there was so much food! All the staff were brilliant, however, a big special shout out to Yanah who was so friendly, smiley and very lovely! She is a credit to the Crown and Anchor, thank you so much for a fab evening! :)

What a place!! Went on the Saturday and booked a table for lunch on Sunday, amazing service, amazing food and what an awesome place to spend remembrance Sunday, and the music was amazing 😍

Had a roast on Sunday and it was absolutely lovely. Huge portions in both adults and child’s. It was remembrance Sunday so really busy but the bar staff were fab! Entertainment was spot on, had a great time! Also had lunch there on Saturday and again faultless service!

Had Sunday Roast after the Remembrance Day Service - cannot fault it. Food as always was delicious and great value for money. The bar was extremely busy due to the Service that day and live entertainment late afternoon. A fantastic atmosphere and despite all of the stuff being run off their feet with it being so busy, they still provided an excellent and friendly service to all customers. Highly recommend here for food and drinks.

Best pub on the Barbican and the food is amazing. 2 courses for £16.95 and was one of the best roast I’ve had! Have also eaten on other days and was just as happy with the food.

On arrival in Plymouth we decided to give this place a try as it was recommended by a friend. I’ve never had better food in a pub. I had the Thai monkfish curry and it was lovely. The woman behind the bar couldn’t be anymore friendlier and service was the best. Thank you for making our evening the best.

Good meal which was appreciated after a busy day of work. It was nice to come here to eat, have a drink and unwind. The location is good right by the harbour

Great little pub with the nicest of people running it. Lovely warm welcome and fast efficient service. Lovely and clean and cosy. Ordered the rump steak and to be honest, at just over £12 pp, down South, we didn’t expect much. We Northerners pay much more than that in our pubs. Then it arrived, goodness me, it was absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection and accompanied by gorgeous chips, peas and loads of crispy onion rings and mushrooms. After 3 days of not very nice hotel food (another area) we were delighted 😀 So, highly recommend this pub, just wish we didn’t live 200 miles away. 5 stars for staff, service, food and warm welcome. Visited a Few times for a drink and always a great atmosphere. So I thought I'd bring family in for lunch. We all thoroughly enjoyed our well presented lunch. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Will be making it a regular haunt now!

Popped in last weekend for a few drinks with friends. Brilliant Atmosphere. We were meant to be going pub to pub but the food looked great so ended up staying for dinner and a few more. Nearly 4 hours in fact! Food was brilliant. Great staff polite and very efficient. First port of call on the Barbican from now on... Thanks for a great night guys.

We wandered around the Barbican and found ourself pulled into this one, it was lively, the rugby was on and it seemed very friendly. We only stayed for one as the Guinness was absolutely awful ( didn’t finish either) The food that came out looked fresh and very good in good size portions. Shame about the Guinness, we noticed the Guinness certificate above the bar dated 2020/21 , hopefully they can sort the Guinness to get a new certificate and we can pop back for food 🙏

Bartender was very helpful with recommending a English beers. We ordered the fish and chips and the owner added 2 monk fish for my wife and I to try. Everything was very good. Definitely recommend for dinner!

My favourite place for Sunday roast in the heart of the Barbican. Quality food for a very reasonable cost. No aunt Bessies here, proper home made Yorkshire puddings are incredible. Salcombe real ales on tap and decent affordable wine. Extremely friendly staff all set in a pleasantly modern nautical setting. Right on the Barbican waterfront. They even show live premiership football. What’s not to like.

Had lunch here with 2 adults and 2 children. The food was reasonably priced and tasted amazing! The children's portion was ginormous! Honestly have seen adults portions smaller than what was served today. But both kids didn't want to stop eating. Very friendly staff too! Stayed in Devon for a week. This place is not so busy, so we took a punt. Prices are decent, food is lovely and arrives hot! Staff are friendly. Good choice of drinks. Thoroughly recommend this place.

We decided to eat at the crown and anchor yesterday for lunch after visiting the aquarium, we had a table of 10 that a member of our group had booked, we were asked to pre order the food which we did the day before, we arrived for our table and the place was empty bar 2 tables so we thought great, 4 of our party were kids so we checked with the staff that they knew we wanted kids roast dinners etc, drinks arrived fine then the 4 adult beef arrived, we then waited 8 mins for the other food to arrive, we were then further disappointed with the adult chicken which came out as one leg and a thigh, no breast at all, then we were alerted with our 5 year old saying he’d got a small bone in his mouth from the chicken he was eating, this is not good at all and a massive red flag, chef should not be serving bones to kids, the roast gammon came out with griddled pineapple on? I can understand it with a steak but not roast gammon We quickly finished up and got out of there, no atmosphere with the staff in a loud gaggle with nothing to do. We won’t be back The sign outside saying food fit for a king is just plain incorrect

Starter potato, ham, leek soup very nice. Chicken pie and mash was lovely. I had scampi chips and peas. There was half a plate of chips, (too many) which were thin more like french fries. Would have been better with just a few chunky chips. Scampi was lovely, and the pub has a nice atmosphere, we go in about once a month. Also they had no decaffinated coffee, which surprised me since it is very popular coffee.

Hired the function room upstairs for a gathering of friends and family. The venue is great, the food was excellent and the staff were brilliant from start to finish. Highly recommend this pub and its function room for a great time.

The staff were nice. My friend and my partner both liked their meals!!! Unfortunately I was not a big fan of mine (Veggie Chilli)--it came out cold and was so spicey I could not eat it ... and believe me I like spice. I think it is most definitely a good place to try, just maybe avoid their chilli and try their burger or fish and chips instead.

Had breakfast here a couple of days ago. One of the the nicest meals I had while in Devon and Cornwall. Very friendly staff, I love all the nautical stuff inside, it creates such a lovely atmosphere.
