Breakfast seemed a fair price, but on arrival left a bit to be desired. Grilled tomatoes were warmed only and the sausage was small considering it was the only one on the plate.

Stayed for four nights with my sister in one of the appartments. Two bedrooms, one very cramped, broken shower light fitting and TV remote not working, though it was fixed quite quickly only to stop again! Windows and sills grubby. Poor accommodation for the price. I would also suggest that maintenance put a hazard strip on the step leading into the appartment, I tripped twice. Full Scottish breakfast consisted of 1 rasher of bacon, 1 sausage, 1 potato scone, 1 egg, boiled mushrooms and 1 round of haggis (plus toast) consistently dried up apart from one day when a different chef was on. There were alternatives but I like a full breakfast. We sat in the conservatory for meals, with a view of the harbour which was, unfortunately, obscured by dirt. Surely this should be a selling point? I am giving it 3 as the staff were brilliant. They were polite, friendly and nothing was too much for them. Well done to them.

Staying at their sister property Torrs Warren Country House Hotel in Stoneykirk, approximately 20 minutes drive away and we were looking for a nice place for dinner. We were directed to their property The Harbour House Hotel in Portpatrick for dinner in their restaurant. They did not disappoint. There was only 1 other table with folks when we entered at 6:30 but the place filled up soon after. The menu had sufficient choices for everyone in our group. There is a kids menu as well. The servers were friendly and efficient. Our appetizer and entrees exceeded our expectations. Steak cooked perfectly, pasta of the day very good and sufficient portions so that we had no room for dessert. Portpatrick is a nice seaside town, very quiet. If we’re ever back in Scotland, this is one area we want to see more of.

Parking spaces near hotel hard to find. Didn't realise when booking this is a card only hotel. The lovely young lady who booked us in was lovely and said we could pay with cash if we had the correct money but the chap with the dark hair and said we couldn't we explained the young lady said. We were standing outside and he put his head out of the and rudely demanded to know which member of staff told us we could make a cash payment. Food we had was okish but very expensive. We stayed for 2 nights and would not stay again. The bed was very hard and it was so much noise from other guests slamming doors.. Room 1 is very small with not much room to move around, it was also not very clean with cobwebs on the lightshade and hanging from ceiling

My husband booked us in for lunch for a surprise wedding anniversary treat. We were seated at a lovely table overlooking the sea. We ordered our food and waited, and waited, and waited some more. We noticed that a table who had come in after us had received their starters really quickly, so we asked the waiter how long ours was going to be, as we had been sat there for 45 minutes. He came back and asked us to remind him what we had ordered - I replied by saying, “so it’s not cooked yet then?”. He replied by saying that our “order hadn’t been put through to the kitchen”. We decided to leave because it wasn’t busy and there really was no excuse for our order to have been forgotten about. A number of staff had walked past us, but not one of them seemed to notice that we were the only people there with no food on our table. Our anniversary treat ruined and so unfortunately we will not return.

Unfortunately this restraunt and hotel has gone downhill. Apartment adjacent to the hotel, was suitable as we had a dog but basic, tired and dusty in corners and behind doors! Granted its an old building but mould and mildew inside the bedroom widows could be cleaned and damp smell dealt with. Ate In the hotel one night and was disappointed with the quality of food for the price. Breakfast was dry (no beans) sausage cheap and tasteless and egg undercooked . Not charging budget prices but serving budget food. Very disappointed. Staff talking about customers within earshot !

Nice looking property in a great position overlooking the harbour. One member of staff covering front of house, bar, restaurant and those seated outside. She was fabulous and managed to juggle a busy lunchtime service. The menu was varied and offered something for everyone. Our starters were good, as were the two salads that were had as main course. The fish and chips that one of our party had was described as “ok”. I had the mussels for a main course and can only describe them as the worst seafood I’ve ever had. Completely overcooked (or possibly partially cooked and then finished at the time) and served with very greasy chips (same complaint from the person who had the fish and chips). Most of the mussel meat had already detached themselves from their shells, leaving about 15 mussels ready to eat (albeit, overcooked)- this for £24 plus another £4 for the chips. Nice venue, great server but quality of the food let it down on this occasion.

Very poor experience for an evening meal. The place wasn't that busy when we arrived (and we had booked) but we waited an hour and 10 minutes to get our food!!!! After 50 minutes I asked what was happening and was told it was on its way whatever that means, but waited another 20 minutes. The people next to us ordered just before us (mere minutes) and they had a starter, mains and were onto a desert by the time our food arrived (we just ordered a mains each). I had the arribiata pasta which was overcooked and falling apart, the sauce was bland. Husband had the lamb which was tiny (should have taken a photo) for £25 with the veg £5 extra, all of it was just warm. They did take the 2 glasses of wine, side of veg and 10% off the bill, but we would have rather had the food in a timely manner and better quality. Very poor experience and will not go back.

Sat outside here in the sunshine a couple of days running just for drinks. We didn’t eat but plenty of people were both inside and out. If you want more local beers and gins there are just ask. They seemed a little under staffed for a bank holiday weekend but everyone seemed happy. The plastic shrubs outside were a little disappointing. Inside could do with freshening up. The toilets were clean. Decor wise it didnt seem to carry a theme - nautical but then black and white photos of Monaco F1 & Frank Sinatra. I think it needs to identify with one or the other. We would hesitate to return and maybe eat another time.

Afraid to say this place is a shambles. Very tired, dirty windows, curtains in our room were torn, shower had black marks on it and a flimsy shower curtain. The dinner was ok garlic prawns and mussels were fine but my chicken burger was hardly recognisable as chicken. The bed in our friends room was a joke with a massive dip in it. The tables in bar were sticky and the whole place seemed not very clean. The cooked breakfast was shocking. Cheap produce and the sausage was inedible. This should be a prime spot to stay in a very busy town but it is in need of major renovation and generally updating. Thank goodness we only had one night there!

Went in for a drink in the bar to assess the place wether to go back for a meal and although the menu looked good the decor really put us off going back for a meal as it is very shabby and not the cleanest looking with burst cushions dirty paintwork and very tired appearance, I’m not sure if it’s the type of appearance is what they are trying to achieve but it done nothing for me, the outside is also looking tired but that maybe down to the sea and wind constantly battering against it, we did enjoy our drink but I honestly think there is a lost opportunity here as the village is such a busy place in the good weather months and first appearances do make a big difference.

Bed springs and metal frame of mattress sticking through very uncomfortable. Window frame and some woodwork in bathroom breaking up. Generally clean except for corners. Burnt patch on carpet. My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in October. What a fantastic stay we had. First off, it's so amazing to stay at a hotel that is 100% dog friendly. Jackson our wee jack russel was welcomed at the door at check in and was given a sausage at breakfast. He wad a bit yappy at dinner time (sorry about that) but no-one batted an eyelid. Brilliant. Our room was a sea view room, we had a bay window with 2 chairs that we were able to watch the sunset at night. Fab. Only slight criticism, and it's not huge because we laughed about it, our room was in the eves, we're both 5ft 11 and we had to hunch to get to the room and then at spots in the room. We bumped our heads a few times but it made us giggle! Breakfast and dinner was superb- Karen looked after us nicely, remembered our drink order from the previous night. Thank you for making us feel welcome! Menu is varied, can recommend the chorizo pasta and the burgers! Chips are like chippy chips! Yum! We're already looking to book for summer next year, what a stunning place, so many walks and hidden treasured around the area.

The one-way system seemed to be ignored by other guests on the way in and our restaurant table was right next to the bar to the extent we thought the waiter would be joining us. Younger members of staff were polite enough but management / senior staff could not care less. AVOID THIS HOTEL, there are plenty of other options in Portpatrick.

We managed to have a late lunch here during our short stay in the area. The food was served reasonably quickly and the staff were efficient and friendly. We had soup and Cajun chicken wrap, both of which were tasty and good portions. It was a reasonable cost for the meal and would be happy to go back. The hotel dining and bar were operating a one way system for ordering the food at the bar with poly-carbonate shields fitted and the food brought to your table. overall in the current conditions an OK place for lunch

Luckily the drive, weather and the village itself made up for the awful lunch experience. We were unsure whether to sit in one of the exterior tables without a team member so hovered about for ages to be told we could. My fiance ordered food at the bar. While waiting the two runners just kept coming out with plates baffled asking everyone and anyone if the plates were what they'd ordered - there weren't that many tables for food and none inside. The young male waiter also done a dash to trying and lift glasses and bottles that weren't finished. Our starter we asked to have with our mains as a sharing dish came and the waitress didn't know they were to come out together but came back out next minute with the rest. I had to ask almost three times before cutlery came, kicking 10mins after the food, my fiance got handed his can without offer of glass or ice. So we never bothered asking for salt or sauces. The couple next to us then complained as they'd sat longer than us and didn't get any of their food, and waited nearly 10mins for a response which resulted in the customer asking for a refund so they could leave. By time we finished our food 3 or 4 tables that were empty were overrun with crows as the tables weren't cleared and neither was ours. Hadn't seen a staff member in about 10mins.Very poorly organised for having 3 staff and a handful of tables dining on a small menu.

We hadn’t booked to stay here but it’s the sister hotel to The Waterfront and is where we got moved to. We had the Harbour View room in the attic which was cosy with a proper en-suite. Not suitable for tall people! Room was clean and food was lovely. We particularly liked sitting in the glass fronted extension to the dining area for our meals and watching the world go by!

Went to this for a drink, most staff not wearing masks and/or shields, no evidence of sanitising outside tables, no encouragement of completing track trace info (a form is at the door but no reminder to complete it.) otheR guests came to the Bar while I was being served without masks or social distancing and when I moved away and told him why I got dogs abuse, he told me to drop death, made derivative comments about my body, age etc and the staff just ignored it! Unfortunately I had already paid. Guest and staff ignored the one way system so if you value you own health, don’t go there!!

We were booked in for 4 nights dinner as part of a package with its partner hotel. All social distancing measures were in place and adhered to by staff members.Members of staff friendly enough and food was OK on first night, but service was slow.2nd night food not the best but service was quicker. The Menu is limited and the remaining choices were not to liking and due to this fact we decided not to return for the following 2 nights, even though they had already been prepaid.I personally would not recommend at the present time but do understand that they are doing their best in the current covid climate.Things may hopefully improve in the future.

Nice, relaxing couple of days spent here. Really nice room with a side view to the harbour. Food was excellent and staff very courteous and friendly, especially Shevonne, young girl who was happy to help and interested in how our days out went. Somewhat confused about last review, yes there was music but it was background music and at no time did we need to shout to be heard. Will be back.

I wouldn’t recommend visiting here. The food was bland and a lot of it had a very strange taste. They’re generous with the portions and it wasn’t expensive, but it also wasn’t good. The windows were so filthy that I thought the clouds were amongst us.

We visit dumfries and galloway at least once a year (usually more) and had yet to venture to Portpatrick.we are so glad we did.wednesday 4th March.gloriously sunny but still quite quiet as it's early in the season.A few people were dining at the outside tables but we opted to eat inside as it was dog friendly. We were served by a lovely, friendly lady, the bar was nicely decorated+ clean. There is also a wonderful glass conservatory type room on the front of the building with fantastic harbour views.A good choice on the menu.we had a chicken+bacon club sandwich with chips(bacon cooked exactly how I asked-many many thanks)and the scallops starter as a main. The food was lovely. We will definitely come here again and would recommend.

Well - a fabulous wee nugget of an establishment.Room ready early, clean tidy, although a bit compact it done the job. Popped down to the bar to be efficiently served a pint of Menebrea lager for a very acceptable £4.25.Off we popped to a wedding & popped back later, so we didn’t see much of the establishment, until the following morning, well there was a breakfast to behold, Arise Sir Waterfront, absolutely fabulous !!The breakfast room is a conservatory with a seaview and a half - perfectly cooked breakfast excellently served.. You will struggle to beat that a one !!

Popped in for lunch, 1.15 on Friday - advised that our friends would be joining us about 1.30, so would delay ordering... we were told we'd best ring them as the kitchen shut at 2 and the Chef would just walk... Not a good start.2 of us ordered Fish and Chips - seriously over-battered Fish and undercooked chips. The other two had wraps which were "OK" and shared a portion of undercooked chips.Even if everything had been top quality, it is quite a pricey place, so mediocre over-priced food doesn't make a return trip likely, which is a shame as it has a great location.

This is a pub. They serve average bar food although they charge city restaurant / bar prices. Prices increased again this week. A single course bar meal with a drink is now just shy of £20 pp, this is 50% higher than the £13 price I paid for the same meal and drink this time last year. The food is of reasonable quality, but expect to pay city centre prices.

Very good, simple and enjoyable. Bar staff friendly, especially the man - i think was the owner/manager. Wish we would have booked in here as atmosphere far better. Would recommend.

Had a few drinks at the start of the evening in this Bar. There are no 'frills' in the Bar itself where dogs and humans are made very welcome. The Staff are friendly and quick to spot those wanting served. There is a lovely glass Terrace where you can have a meal with a view and also a coffee lounge. I believe this is a sister hotel of the Waterfront - so you're not seeing double if you see the same Staff here as you have been served by there. Worth a visit busy atmosphere.

Our 2 families of seven had dinner here and chose widely from the menu, and everything was very good. Even the fussy children enjoyed the 2 courses they had. We enjoyed our family time here in the comfortable surroundings. I personally found it hard to choose from the menu as there was a lot that appealed to me being a seafood lover. A Tapas styled selection of the seafood offered at this establishment would had suited me that night. Thumbs up!

If you like very loud music while you drink your coffee and don’t really want to hear what your companions are saying then this is the place for you! Not a pleasant experience for morning coffee. The part for coffee only was full and we were directed to the bar area where two young girls were chatting across the bar. The music was turned down marginally when we entered. It’s a shame as there was a great sea view but I had to drink up quickly and get out.

I plumped for soup n a portion of chips to accompany a wrap filled with chicken, cajun style with plenty of peppers etc. The waitress, whom was tremendous, said that it was a wise choice. What wasnt though, was adding the chips And the soup, either would have made a substantial meal. Both, well this was just ridiculous. I struggled, manfully to finish n nearly got there. The piping hot soup was fresh, zingy and appreciated. The chips, not triple cooked but well tasty enough. The wrap was indeed spot on, really tasty AND huge. Nice n fresh too.

Had always wanted to visit here, so glad we did. Very quaint village, people really friendly. There’s a row of hotels with bars that were fairly lively on a Friday. We stayed at the harbour house hotel in room 8, this was up some windy stairs with squirky sloping roofs. Our room was good with views to die for, although if your tall like my partner you’ll have to watch you don’t whack your head on the low ceilings the toilet/shower is internal and Very tiny but it was ok for overnight stay. The bar/restaurant area was lovely, breakfast was adequate too, cold & hot choices, staff welcoming & friendly, will definitely return.

Great little pub. Had a wait for food, but it was worth it. Portions are huge. There is no such thing as 5 wings as the menu advertises was closer to 12. Guy, behind the bar was amazing. I couldn't fault him. Limited on tables is the only downside, but on a Tuesday night in October, got a seat.
