We went in for an evening meal and although they were very busy they managed to fit us and me and my wife had fish and chips and it was some of the best we’d ever had. Great staff and lovely surroundings. Not the cheapest but the quality was excellent. Oh and the rhubarb crumble was to die for.

Amazing location with a stunning sea view. Clean well kept rooms. The hotel itself feels a bit rickety especially when going up and down the stairs. The service wasn’t great and the food was so so bad. Although there were 7 or 8 members of staff visibly on shift there was only 1 or 2 taking all the orders and doing all the work. I was ignored and walked away from by other members of staff… which is just rude and disrespectful. The food is abysmal and definitely needs to be readdressed. Boring menus, bland and tasteless food with messy presentation. We were served cakes like sawdust, stale pastries and avocado that tasted like vinegar. I had a 10oz Sirloin that was as tender as Gandhi’s flip flop. Amazing surrounding locations but I think I would book to stay somewhere else.

It's been several years since I visited the Harbour Hotel in Salcombe, and it feels like things have gone downhill but prices have shot up. First of all, the good things. It's a stylishly decorated hotel in a fabulous location, with wonderful views over the estuary. The staff are lovely, helpful and friendly. The beds are incredibly comfortable and waking up to the sounds of the sea is really special. The spa is small but nice, with a great steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. On the downside, you would think that for a four-star hotel at a high price point that everything would be spot-on, but this wasn't the case. Our bathroom had rusting blinds and peeling paint on the ceiling, with black mould around the shower tray. The shower was slow-draining and flooded the bathroom floor. The continental breakfast is included (and very tasty, with lots of options), but you have to pay an additional £10 for a cooked breakfast, and then pay extra for any hot drinks other than tea or filter coffee. This feels a little hard to swallow when rooms cost £400 a night. Finally, on my previous visit, a fun little perk was a carafe of free gin and sherry in each room. Now, the sherry is gone, and you get a 100ml dribble of gin per visit. Surely it would make far more sense to give guests a voucher for a free drink in the bar, and remove the huge, mostly empty carafe in the room? As it stands, the tiny dribble is not topped up each day, and you have just enough for one double each when travelling as a couple - don't drink it too quickly, now!

We took my mum to The Jetty restaurant for her 80th birthday and what a lovely afternoon we had. Very attentive service and a huge thank you to James, who went above and beyond to make Mum feel special on her birthday. Food was delicious, stunning views, all in all a very enjoyable day. We will definitely be back again. :-)

Been a long while since our last visit and sadly, things are not quite as they could be. Firstly. It must be said that the staff are fantastic! And there can be no doubt that it is in a good spot, albeit very tricky to enter and exit with a car. Sadly. That's about where it ends for the good stuff and at least for 80% of people reading this review. The hotel is hugely expensive for almost anything and everything. Regardless of spending 300 or 400 pounds on a room, you still have to pay for daily parking at £10 per day. A very tasty continental breakfast is included, but extras like a latte or "speciality coffee"... That's £4 Anything cooked at breakfast... That's £10 and that includes things like a single boiled egg. Needless to say, this hotel is very much placed and priced for that higher set, as can be seen in both the expensive parked cars, and the general demeanor of guests within the resturant. Our room was clean and fairly well presented, but things like peeling plaster on the roof in the bathroom, missing rubber stoppers around the white fittings and a flooding shower basin aren't really what you'd expect for the money you are being charged. The bed was extremely comfortable. The odd presence of "free gin" is sums up the strange ethos the hotel has regarding its value for money. You only receive 100ml of free gin. Topped up every 3 days of your stay. However the gin is given to you in a decanter which looks like it could hold 2 litres! And indeed once probably did but is no considered too much of a freebie for guests. So instead, you get a thin splash in the bottom of an essentially empty bottle. To think that with the prices you are being charged for basic amenities. Parking, boiled eggs for breakfast etc. That you'd be given more "free gin". Or top it up daily. Or just don't offer it at all, as in it's current state, it feels like an ingenious attempt to provide a luxury freebie. The spa is well laid out, but again, for the price, things like repairing the leak around the air intake for the hot tub, replacing missing/broken tiles.... these seem basic things that a 4 star hotel with 6 star pricing and everything "extra" but yet... these little hiccups remain. For the 20%, those who are unlikely to feel any pinch at the costs, and no doubt patronise the high end Oxford street brands within the now essentially dead highstreet, I doubt any of these concerns will matter. This is definitely a placed to be seen by the right people, with the right money, with the right car and the right clothes. We won't be visiting again, as regardless of how welcoming and wonderful the staff were (and they were fab!), the higher ups/owners/ethos of this hotel is for the high rolling, big spenders who need to be seen at the right place at the right time.

We stayed here a year ago and would have given it 4/5 stars then. Now though, it's the small things that have made it worse. The room was lovely enough but is in need of some tlc - evidence of damp in the bathroom. The real gripe though is around the hidden charges. Navigating them is like dealing with Ryanair. Breakfast was poor, almost no vegan options and an additional £4/5 for a coffee, unless you want the filter stuff. £10 if you want hot food, including beans on toast... Worst of all, £10 for parking was unveiled on check out. I'm sorry but that really was a kick in the teeth, it's a nightmare to park in anyway and if it's costing us £250+ for a night, parking should be free. Where the heck else are we expected to park!? We'll be looking at another hotel next time.

Location is great as it is close to the high street. This should not be listed as a 4 star hotel. A 2 star hotel at most. The room was alright except that there is no air conditioning. The gym was the most disappointing bit. The ceiling so low and the space so small, it was impossible to work out. Certainly not ‘state of the art’ as they claim it to be. The breakfast is absolutely horrendous. Some fruits, orange juice, disgusting looking cereals. I had some scrambled egg, which was ok! Oh by the way, if you want a cappuccino they will charge you £4.75 extra. All they serve is filter coffee for free. Worse than Travelodge. The restaurant menu is just pub menu - all fried and extremely unhealthy. Avoid lunch. The dinner menu was marginally better as there were options such as mussels and catch of the day. Again, barely any veggies to go with the sea bass I ordered.

We had a lovely meal here this evening. Great service from friendly staff and everything arrived quickly and tasted great. The Chicken Jalfrezi was particularly good.
