PROS: One of the best Chinese takeaways I have had since, moving up from England. The deals make it really worth while, when it comes to deciding to order - This local Chinese is Good value for money and comparatively priced a starter, main, side and drink for just £11.50 with 10% discount with an order £15+. Extra springs rolls was a nice add on and touch got 12 instead of 8. The meat in both myself and my partners duck and chicken curries was a lot and this is something the competition tends to lack in the area - the lack of meat. The member of staff on the phone was really polite and apologetic and kept us accurately updated on ETA on delivery. CONS: Delivery took far too long just a little over 2hrs, understandable that it’s a Friday night but I’m a 10 minute drive away, after rush hour. Food could’ve been warmer it was lukewarm and close to cold. Chips could’ve been done better as they were on the dry side and the soup my partner ordered for her starter was way too fatty. I would’ve given higher if it wasn’t for the delivery (mainly).

I ordered food quite urgently from here for 5 people,it was ready within half an hour. Amazing veg and prawn Singapore noodles! I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting this area!! The man working the counter is also very friendly. It's cash only unless you order online but aside from that minor inconvenience, it's great!

Lemon Chicken & fried rice was delicious. Bonus that it was delivered early. Friendly, polite delivery driver.

Chicken balls were terrible also never put curry sauce in with my chicken balls so had no sauce to dip them in.

Ordered at 6:30pm. After 2 hours phoned to be told it’s out for delivery “been very busy”. Was out for delivery for 40 minutes. Food was soggy and drinks were hot. Taste of food was good just a shame it had been sitting ages.

I feel bad writing this was the delivery lady was so friendly and lovely. The food was awful. The soup was a thick jelly like consistency, not like a soup at all. The chips were hard and chewy like they had been reheated and the chicken in the curry was like rubber. Not good at all and ended up in the bin.

We've enjoyed several takeaways from Happy Rice now - we keep coming back because of the happiness we get from the wide selection of dishes on the menu. There is a big veggie selection, and we always enjoy the sweet buns. The price is great as well.

Thai curry was spiced with sweet chili sauce, duck spring rolls were soggy and the spare ribs were over cooked.

Food was shocking. How do you manage to over cook rice and then think it's acceptable to send it to someone. Also the oil at the bottom of the noodle container was boggin and totally off-putting. Honestly the only thing enjoyable out of the whole order was the praw crackers. The food would've been better if it was cooked properly and had proper seasonings added to it.

Do you want the worst Chinese takeaway in Edinburgh? Look no further! We made the mistake of ordering from Happy Rice via Juat Eat as our usual place was closed. Ordered at 7.30pm and the app said to expect delivery between 8.45pm - 9.05pm. A bit of a wait for somewhere less than half a mile away on Tuesday night but ok. 9.05 rolls around and it comes up as delivered on the Just Eat app but no sign. Give it another 5 minutes but still nothing so I call up the restaurant (it's been an hour and 40 minutes after ordering at this point). I got told very abruptly that the kitchen was very busy as they had lots of orders so it would be another 25 minutes thanks for waiting, goodbye and they hung-up. Food finally arrived 2 hours after ordering (credit to them, it was only the 25 minutes late that they said it would be). The delivery driver was extremely nice and apologetic for the delay and gave us a 2nd free bag of prawn crackers and money off voucher as way of apology. Unfortunately the £5 off voucher runs out at the end of the month and is only valid on orders over £25. We hoped the food might make up for it and be worth the wait but unfortunately not. Cold, bland and greasy is the only way to describe it. Unless you like disappointment, late delivery, rude staff and bad food then I recommend you avoid Happy Rice.

This is our fav Chinese takeaway for years. The staff are nice, the food is great. My personal recommendation : fried rice, kung po chicken, salt and pepper chicken, vegetables spring rolls, prawn crackers. Hope this is useful

My curry was missing not happy.

I've ordered from Happy Rice for a long time because of their range of vegan options, but this will be the last time. I know them to be slow with delivery, but the food arrived over 4 hours after we ordered it. This was 2.5 hours after the latest delivery estimate. Despite phoning the restaurant several times, I never got an accurate delivery estimate from them and they weren't apologetic.

Absolutely horrible. I have never ordered something that bad. It was purely disgusting. The delivery took over 3 hours! And the food was AWFUL.

Sauce on the main meals was really flavourless, like ingredients were missing. The lemon chicken did not taste sweet or lemony at all and was really quite unpleasant. The delivery time was good and the food was hot and fresh but really the sauces were all just salted gloop.

Absolutely brilliant! Food was hot and tasty. Great options for vegetarians. We very much appreciated the complimentary items and bottle of juice. Will order again!

Food was inedible. Everything was just oil. Soup was like sweetcorn with the water poured out the tin. Zero chicken or flavour. Main courses were not much better. The only thing I was able to eat was the free spring rolls

Shame. I was excited to try this place - its a 15 minute walk from my flat but i had Covid - took almost 1.5 hours after ordering, the driver went to the wrong address, the fried rice just tasted of 'burnt' and my mixed seafood had chicken in it - scary when they offer 'vegan'. They deep fried 3 mussels in the shell so there was not much else in it! Sad - i wouldn't recommend.

I I didn't receive it on Christmas Day quote to six it said it arrived but no one answering the the buzzer or my front door this is getting beyond a joke we'll just eat 😠

We ordered on Xmas day , despite the very busy ordering we got it delivered by a fantastic lady dressed as Santa , super polite and we got a nice surprise, thank you and we will definitely order again 👍🏼😋

Driver failed to contact my phone and ended up just leaving the food in the reception which I found 10 minutes later. Food was of a good quality overall except prawn crackers which were soft and chips that were a bit soggy.

I could have eaten that again, immediately. That was really nice! The skin on the duck was crunchy, the perfect sliver of fat: maybe I should have got the large rice instead of regular - I think that would have extended my enjoyment!

I just got a beef curry and the beef tasted like it was going off I had to just eat chips for my dinner it was disgusting never again

I ordered a vegetarian dish, when I got home & had eaten a bit I found a prawn which means I'd been eating meat! I phoned them, he apologised & said he'll replace, said I should have said vegetarian. I did. At least twice because I've been a veggie for 20+ years & know this can happen. I went all the way back to pick up my replacement dish & he said I needed to bring back the other dish? When he didn't tell me that on the phone? I'm the one that's inconvenienced & had to eat meat & go back out! Yet they act like I was out of order? Honestly, screw this place. Should have said on the phone to bring back the dish.

FINALLY WE FOUND OUR GO TO CHINESE! The bean curd with satay sauce and the mock duck in bean curd sauce were exceptional! The side dishes like seaweed with cashews, plain noodles, satay sauce and even the rice were super delicious! To top it all off the wee lady who delivered the food was the cutest person that have ever delivered me food EVER! She treated us with free juice and free spring rolls which to I was very grateful for. Over all 10/10 for food, time and service! Thank you Happy Rice 🙏🏼

Ordered 35 minutes before kitchen closed, thought it would be enough time. Apologies to the kitchen. Food was decent, I like the fact there's mock meats. The sweet and sour would be better if it was battered, just my opinion though.

First time ordered here. I honestly say that the chicken looked very old and looked like a sponge. I think this type of food is not to my taste. a friend recommended me to try your restaurant's food. the lady who delivered was very, very nice, the food was hot and delivered on time. Arrived 30.mins earlier than app predicted which was a great start. Unfortunately the seafood mix was a wee bit lacking in seafood (only 5 Prawns & 4 Mussels!). Rice & noodles were a little greasy but overall was tasty.

Unfortunately most of the food was freezing cold annoyingly. The curry was a little warm and the restaurant were kind to not put in mushrooms (I did ask) I definitely won't return mainly due to the way to food came but that may not be purely down to the restaurant themselves and the delivery.

Ordered a rosted duck and crispy noodles not a duck soup with random vegetables like broccoli, mushrooms, green peppers and lettuce. I did not like it. The delivery time from Easter Road to Salamander Place took 1 hour and a half.
